[The Demon Hunter's Romance]

[Episode 10]

My Lady.

My Lady.

Do you think Physician Jiu

will be angry with us?

What do you think?

Then will he

refuse to help us save Master?

Didn't you say he's lazy

and doesn't really care about us

and that Master Kongtongzi

is the real expert?

I did think so before,

but after thinking about it,

we've never actually seen

Master Kongtongzi's skills.

But Physician Jiu

has proven he can truly fight demons.

We dropped a sure bet

without finding a better one.

Feels like a big loss, doesn't it?

Don't worry.

That sure bet isn't going anywhere.

Almost done, right?

Take a look.

Look, look.

I just discovered this one.

How is it?

Thank you, Physician Jiu.

I'll be off now.

"A great physician who's kind-hearted and skilled."

Someone gave that to you?

What are you doing here?

I'm here to dye your hair.

No need.

Why?

Didn't you ask someone else for help?

Why are you still trying to curry favor with me?

It was all a misunderstanding.

I went there

to expose that fraud.

Did I ever tell you

that after my dad resigned from his post,

he took me away from Guangping,

and we moved to Yuanzhou?

In Yuanzhou,

I ran a wine shop.

At first, I sold pine flower wine

and amber wine,

but for a long time,

business stayed low.

After some digging, we found out

Yuanzhou already had sellers

for those two kinds of wine,

but they ruined the reputation

of those two wines

by selling low-quality stuff for profit.

In the end,

my dad and I

had to sell other kinds of wine instead.

You get it now, don't you?

No matter how skilled you are,

you still can't stop

greedy peers from

ruining the industry's reputation.

You work so hard every day,

risking your life to catch demons,

but those frauds out there

are stepping on your name

to climb higher.

Aren't you mad?

It makes you mad?

Of course.

I'm mad.

I'm your friend, after all.

So what did you do?

I went to investigate.

I figured once I spotted

his flaws,

I'd expose him.

Xuanye.

Xuanye.

It took me

four hours

to prepare these black beans.

If you don't use them, they'll go to waste.

Come. Sit down.

What are you doing?

Sit, sit.

My dad said

white hair makes people

look tired and worn out.

What did Kongtongzi say?

He said…

something really bad is going to happen to me,

but if I use

his magic tool,

I'll be safe from harm

and danger.

You gave him money?

Just a small amount.

I already sent Chi Xue out

to track down that life-swapping demon.

Once I've

given my word,

I never go back on it.

I have my own way of doing things.

Since you've chosen me,

you have to trust me.

I do trust you.

Then wait patiently.

Don't rush.

And stop looking for help elsewhere.

U-Understood.

I'll do it myself.

Xuanye.

What were you two doing?

Why were you lying on his lap?

I was dyeing Xuanye's hair.

Dyeing his hair?

My Lady.

Physician Jiu is not angry anymore?

Physician Jiu is more reliable.

From now on, let's listen to him

and wait patiently for news.

No more fussing around.

Leave here!

Tingzhou.

Do you think

Xuanye

could be Manying?

What?

You don't remember Manying?

I do.

Wasn't that someone you saw in a dream?

Yes.

Back then, you all said I was sick,

that there couldn't be demons in this world,

and it was just a dream.

But now it's been proven

that there are demons in this world.

So is it possible

that what I said was real

and Manying was real too?

Alright, alright.

It was all real.

But even if that dream was real

and Manying was real,

how do you know

Physician Jiu is Manying?

Xuanye

has a wound this big

right over his left chest.

And it's a through-and-through wound,

exactly where Manying

was wounded back then.

My Lady.

You took off Physician Jiu's clothes?

That's not the point.

My... My Lady.

You're engaged.

How could you just

take off a strange man's clothes?

How is Xuanye

a strange man?

We're quite close.

But you still

shouldn't have taken off his clothes.

I didn't mean to.

My Lady.

I know you don't like

Young Master Li,

but this match was arranged by Master.

Before you properly

settle this matter,

even if you've fallen for someone else,

you can only keep it

quietly in your heart.

How could you take off his clothes?

I told you I didn't mean to.

You know exactly

whether you did or not.

Anyway, I'll keep an eye on you

on behalf of Master.

Who's the one giving orders here?

Who's the one giving orders here?

I'll keep an eye on you!

Just take your stuff and go.

I'm leaving.

My Lady, stop dreaming.

Snap out of it.

Snap out of it.

Xuanye.

I've got news about the life-swapping demon.

Tell me about it.

There was a guy who rode his horse recklessly

and killed someone.

Lord Geng had him beheaded.

You know about this, right?

Yes, I do.

But word is,

he didn't die.

He didn't die?

That's right.

Someone saw him leaving the city,

and they seemed really sure.

The government office has already sent people

to track him down in secret.

Think about it.

How could an ordinary person

come back from the dead?

Perhaps,

just like Banxia's dad,

his life was swapped by the demon.

Right?

My Lady, something happened!

What happened? Why the panic?

That Master Kongtongzi

we met yesterday—

he's dead.

Dead?

I passed by while buying groceries

and saw mourning banners at his house.

I asked around and found out that

he got up to pee last night, tripped,

and died just like that.

How strange!

He was wielding swords and spears yesterday,

looking like a seasoned fighter.

Yet he died from falling when going to pee at night.

Miss, what do you mean by "the bird doesn't fly?"

Isn't it right here?

What's the matter, Xuanye?

We're busy here.

I just need

to ask you something.

That reckless noble who rode a horse

and ran someone over in the street—

did he really come back to life?

You've heard about it too?

What do you mean?

A few days ago,

he was beheaded.

But these past few days,

there have been rumors that he's not dead.

We're not taking it seriously.

Only Youhuang is,

and he's out looking into it.

There's no smoke without fire.

Well...

could there really be

a way to bring the dead back?

Maybe it's not resurrection.

It's very possible that the one you beheaded

wasn't him at all.

That's impossible.

I verified his identity myself.

Alright,

go back for now.

If anything else comes up,

let me know right away.

The white crow.

When the white crow appears, someone dies.

The white crow…

Banxia.

Why are you in such a hurry?

Where are you going?

The white crow.

There's a white crow above your head.

Xuanye.

Did you find anything?

Banxia.

Is that crow…

Is Master Crow

still here?

No?

Xuanye,

am I really going to die?

I…

If Yama wants you dead at midnight…

Shut up!

Shut up! Shut up!

Stop fooling around.

You scared the crap out of me.

But I don't get it.

Why does someone die

every time the white crow appears?

That day in Chi Wangchuan's illusion,

he sent the white crow

to attack us.

I thought at the time

it was just some spell of his,

but I didn't expect

the white crow

to be his companion demon.

Well,

that doesn't make sense!

I've never had bad blood

with Master Chi Wangchuan.

If he's after anyone, it should be you.

Why me?

The white crow is just a spiritual creature.

It doesn't have the power to kill people.

What do you mean?

I mean,

death is the cause,

and the white crow is the effect.

It's appeared because your days

are numbered.

It's not because of its appearance

that you will die.

So when the white crow appears,

it only signals death.

It doesn't bring death.

That's right.

But that still doesn't make sense!

Isn't this just like

her eyes that can

see demons?

That's a good thing!

What, did that Chi Wangchuan

think she's pretty,

like her,

and give her his companion demon?

You think being able to see death

is some kind of gift?

It's not?

It's a curse.

Then what should I do? I…

Don't worry too much.

The appearance of the white crow

doesn't mean you'll die right away.

How long do I have?

Probably five or six days.

Five or six days?

Then maybe two or three days?

Two or three days?

How about just one or two days?

One or two days?

Stop yelling!

I...

Xuanye.

Did you come up with something?

I knew you'd have a way!

I didn't stay friends with you

all these years for nothing.

Come on.

Kill it.

Kill it now. Come on.

The white crow is a spirit.

I can't kill it.

And it's just an omen.

Killing it won't

solve anything.

Then what should I do?

I'll figure something out.

Go home for now.

I…

I'm not leaving.

If I'm gonna die, I'm dying right here with you.

Wen Jian.

Wen Jian.

In the worst-case scenario,

if my method doesn't work,

you'll only have a day or two left to live.

Don't you have anything

you want to say to your family?

I...

I...

Chi Xue.

Escort Chief Constable Wen home.

Chief Constable Wen.

Let's go.

No, no, I'm not leaving.

Come on, let's go.

I...

Help… Help me out.

You should go back too.

About the white crow,

don't worry about it for now.

It's different

from other demons.

It won't harm you.

If you see it again,

just act like you don't.

You'll be fine.

Okay.

I'll go back then.

Don't sigh.

Sighing won't help.

If death's coming, it's coming.

You…

Honey.

So you still remember to come home?

Did you go gambling again?

How much did you lose this time?

Honey, don't worry,

let me explain.

I...

I've heard enough of your excuses.

Don't I know what you're like?

I must've been blind to

fall for a fat idiot like you.

I...

Chi Xue, help me explain.

He really didn't go gambling.

Then why didn't he come home?

I don't know either.

Maybe

he's dying or something.

Why are you staring at me?

You're good at making up stories.

Go ahead, keep lying.

Honey,

I'm dying.

You...

Don't worry.

Let me finish what I'm saying.

Fine.

Go ahead.

Keep talking.

Speak.

I was lying

every time

I told you I lost money.

Come on, how clever I am.

Of course I know

that gambling leads to losses.

I'm just fond of money

and wanted to save some pocket money.

I hid it

all in the

empty bricks of the outhouse.

Honey,

you're still young.

After I die,

find a good man to marry.

Wen Jian,

we're fine,

it's no big deal

if you lose a bit of money.

Don't scare me.

You know I'm easily frightened.

Did something happen to you?

Let's go find Lord Geng

and have him help you.

Lord Geng can't help me with

this matter.

Is someone seeking revenge?

I can't explain it clearly right now,

but anyway, this time

there's no escaping.

Changle Sword,

born from following the cause and effect,

has the power to sever the cause and break the past.

When the time comes,

the Changle Sword will appear on its own.

However,

opportunities are rare,

and it cannot be forced.

I'm back.

Was your journey safe?

It was safe,

but once we get home, it's another story.

His wife says she wants to

give him a serious scolding.

I think she's quite serious about it.

Are you planning to

use the Changle Sword to save Wen Jian?

Unfortunately, the time for the cause and effect hasn't come yet.

It still refuses to show itself.

It's actually true.

[Reunion Inn]

Are you here to stay

or to rob?

I'm here to stay.

Are you alone?

Yes.

[Zhou Wuniang]

How should I address you, sir?

My surname is Duan.

Mr. Duan,

where are you from

and where are you going?

Mr. Duan, if you don't show the travel permit,

we

won't be able to explain it

if the officials come to inquire.

It's my oversight.

May I ask

where the innkeeper is?

The innkeeper is my father,

in the back courtyard.

Are you from

an official family?

Could you give me a room first?

The hot springs at our inn

are the most famous.

How about

I take you to a hot spring bath later?

No need.

Just prepare some food and wine.

Alright.

Your inn

is really quiet.

My father is renovating the inn,

so we've not been

taking in guests recently.

Am I the only guest here?

Yes,

we can't turn you away.

It's not safe

for someone to sleep outdoors

in this desolate wilderness.

Your inn

is so complicatedly built.

Aren't you afraid guests will get lost?

We have many

attendants here.

No matter where you are,

as long as you call out,

someone will hear you.

So naturally,

there's no worry about getting lost.

-Wuniang. -Wuniang.

You,

go prepare some food and wine

for this young master

and send it to the courtyard in front.

Yes.

What are you doing?

I noticed that your complexion

doesn't seem very good.

It would be best if you stayed a little longer

to rest and recover before continuing your journey.

I still have business to attend to.

I'll stay for one night and leave.

Just staying for one night?

My father said that

meeting is fate.

It's really a pity.

Mr. Duan,

your room is just ahead.

This is our house-made wine,

clear, sweet,

and with a lingering aftertaste.

Please,

have a taste.

Thank you, Miss Zhou.

I'll take my leave now.

Is anyone here?

Boss!

Boss!

Bet here! Bet here! Bet here!

Listen to me!

Bet here! Bet here!

Chief Constable Chu,

what brings you here?

An ill wind.

Come on, come on!

Next round, hurry!

Where are you running to?

Guangping Residence.

It's fine, it's fine.

Don't run!

Don't move!

Where's Gao Sheng?

He...

Didn't he die?

Dead?

Yes.

He's dead.

But I heard that just two days ago,

you were drinking with someone

and said Gao Sheng came back to life,

even toasting with you.

How is it that he's dead again now?

I was talking nonsense after drinking.

How can that be taken seriously?

No, no, no!

Are you going to tell me or not?

I'll tell you.

I really thought he was dead.

When I saw him again,

I was shocked.

He only told me while drinking that

his mother used some tricks

to help him escape death.

Where is he now?

He's...

He's at a relative's place in the mountains,

laying low to avoid trouble.

You're here.

You didn't sleep all night?

Have you found any solution?

Let's go to Wen Jian's house first.

Wait for me a moment.

There are often signs of misfortune, spreading the news of death.

Let's go.

Alright.

Wen Jian, wake up!

Where is he?

Go; up.

Careful.

A bit higher.

Higher.

That's right.

To the left. It's tilted. Left.

Left!

Don't stand here gawking!

Move along quickly!

Isn't that Chief Constable Wen?

Someone's been hit!

Ms. Wen,

just now a few constables came to the door

saying that Lord Geng from the government office

will be here soon.

Also,

the coffin from Su's Coffin Shop

will be here shortly.

You see,

are we going to carry it in now?

Why?

Why did this happen?

Ms. Wen.

Physician Jiu,

Ms. Wen has fainted from crying.

You and Wen Jian

have always been on good terms,

so why don't you

give her some advice?

Why did this happen?

What's going on?

Why all this commotion so early in the morning?

Wen Jian?

Wen Jian,

you're not dead?

What's wrong?

-Honey. -You're not dead?

What's wrong, honey?

Honey.

You...

You dressed like this.

Our family...

I knew you couldn't die.

Honey.

Honey.

Today, on the street,

we saw someone

who looked exactly like you

get crushed by a signboard.

We all thought that person was you,

so we arranged a funeral for you.

Well...

Looked exactly like me?

What's going on with you?

Where have you been?

I...

I've been sleeping all along.

I just woke up

under the bed

and then heard all

the noise outside,

so I came out.

Ban... Banxia,

that...

Is that Master Crow

still around?

No.

He flew away

when the signboard fell and killed him

on the street.

Is there really such a lucky turn of events?

Someone who looked exactly like me

died,

and I'm fine?

Do you know

the black cat at the memorial hall?

I...

How would I know a cat?

Ms. Wen,

do you know it?

I...

Honey.

This matter is very likely connected to a demon.

Though Wen Jian

has luckily escaped death,

we have no idea

whether this demon

is a blessing or a curse.

Ms. Wen, we hope that

you can be honest with us

so we can make plans early.

Well...

That day, Wen Jian came back

and talked a lot about life and death,

even telling me

where he hid his private money.

I was scared, couldn't sleep,

so I went to the place

he mentioned.

Suddenly,

I heard a cat meow.

When I turned around,

I saw a cat sitting on the wall.

Is that the same cat

from the funeral hall?

The night was too dark,

so I couldn't see clearly.

But that cat gave off

a very strange feeling.

I immediately thought of

the rumors about

the Cat Demon exchanging lives.

Then I remembered what Wen Jian had said,

and I got really anxious.

Feeling desperate, I decided to try anything

and gave all the money to that cat,

hoping it would help Wen Jian

escape this crisis.

I didn't expect

it to really work.

Honey.

The Cat Demon that exchanges lives?

Yes.

It's called the Nine Lives Immortal.

They say that if you give it money,

it can exchange lives for you,

taking death in your place.

The life-exchanging demon.

Is it that life-exchanging demon?

Ms. Wen,

do you know

how to summon this

life-exchanging demon?

I've secretly inquired about it.

They say you need to go out alone

at the hour of 11PM,

turn left at

the first intersection,

stop at

the seventh intersection,

and

along the way, you must never look back.

Why is Banxia

taking so long?

Could something have gone wrong?

I am Banxia,

sincerely praying,

humbly asking the Nine Lives Immortal to appear.

I am Banxia, sincerely praying

to the Nine Lives Immortal.

My name is Duan Banxia,

and my father is Duan Yingheng.

I have something

to ask the Nine Lives Immortal.

in Penglai Alley of Nanyang City,

the third house from the left

caught on fire.

I want to know if my father borrowed a life from you

during the fire, faking his death

to escape the capture of the Mirror Demon.

Nine Lives Immortal!

Banxia!

Xuanye,

I just saw Nine Lives Immortal.
