Awesome job!

Thank you so much.

Welcome to this special evening

as we go home for the holidays.

That song is what tonight is all about.

It's about the magic of Christmas,

the power of family and what can happen

♪ If you just believe.♪

So tonight I've invited some good friends

to share their music, their favorite holiday memories

and to join me in celebrating this show

which has changed so many lives.

It has created thousands of families,

moved a generation of children

from foster care into loving homes,

and it reminds us who we are and what's important.

[cheering, applause]

MAN: My wife and I received a call

to tell us about a seven-year-old girl

who was gonna be moved out of her home

four days before Christmas.

CHILD: I was worried that Santa didn't know

where I was.

CHILD 2: In our foster home, we've never heard of Christmas.

Like, there wasn't even a tree up.

CHILD 3: I wanted to be happy

and not to be sad all the time.

CHILD 4: We got separated on our third foster home

and that was really hard on me.

He was, like, the only thing there that I had left

when I came into the system.

So, yeah.

CHILD 5: When I was younger,

one time, on my Christmas list I just asked

to get a dad.

MAN 2: It's as if

you're witnessing the spirit and somebody just crushed.

MAN 3: My first Christmas with the kids was

overwhelming for them 'cause they never

really had a-a Christmas like this before.

To see these two young kids on their first Christmas,

I was looking at what my life was going to be like...

...from then on.

CHILD 6: This was like a dream come tru.

It was the start of... of a happy family.

And that just makes me feel happy on the inside.

MAN 4: We wanted him to have a loving family.

And we gave it to him.

The day that they moved in, I felt like I could breathe

that nothing was gonna happen.

They weren't going anywhere, and I didn't

have to worry about that anymore.

DAD 5: We just know we absolutely did

the right thing bringing this family together.

This Christmas is gonna be different

because I don't have anything that I desire right now

'cause I already have everything.

CHILD 1: On Christmas morning,

I ran downstairs

and I saw all of the presents.

Most of them were for me.

And I really felt like I was part of this family.

Mm.

CHILD 7: I have a family now.

It's like a dream come true to me.

I've been wishing for that my whole life.

WOMAN: And when I saw her smile...

...that's when I knew she's supposed to be here.

WOMAN: Having her in our home for the first time--

it just felt complete.

CHILD 8: If I could go to the sun,

I would thank God

for my family.

I could stay here forever and ever

and ever and ever and ever.

And that's the power of this show.

We'll be right back with my guests,

The War and Treaty, James Bay,

-Yay-uh! -Yay-uh!

We're in for a great night, so stick around.

One of my favorite Christmas memories is

when I was about 15 years old.

My parents got me my first ever guitar.

And I was so grateful to my parents

'cause they just knew how much I loved music. And when I

just think back on my whole career,

I think that was really when I started taking,

you know, writing songs more seriously

and really just finding my own voice.

And that Christmas gift was such a big part of that.

Please welcome my friend, the incredible Tori Kelly.

Tori Kelly, everybody.

Ah.

One of my favorite Christmas memories

is waking up way too early with my younger brother Chris.

We would get my parents up before the sun

even was remotely ready to-to rise.

We'd get on our, uh, our onesie pajamas

with the footsies, and we'd come downstairs

and we would see, um, what Santa brought.

But we were really curious to see if Santa ate the cookies

that we would leave for him, and if Rudolph and the reindeer

would eat the carrot sticks and the celery sticks.

Well, very important, and he did.

Hungry reindeer.

It was an amazing and wonderful morning,

but I was one of the lucky ones.

There are thousands of children who are still waiting

for a place to call home.

Now, over the years, this show has shared

the hopes and dreams of children living in foster care.

I spent some time with some of them

who were featured on the show

and are now living in loving families.

And they have a few things to say about Christmas

and Santa, as children often do.

It's great to see you. Nico.

Thank you, gentlemen, for joining me.

Got a very serious,

very important conversation to be had.

And it's about Christmas and it's about Santa.

How old do you think Santa is?

1,563 years old.

That is a oddly specific number.

-Is this on Wikipedia and I had no idea? -[chuckles]

How old do you think Santa is?

Ten?

-A hundred? -Five hundred?

Five hundred? What do you think?

-One hundred! -Sixty-four.

In his 90s.

-Two hundred ninety. -Ninety-one.

-One million. -GROBAN: A million--

That is the oldest anybody has ever said.

A million-- I hope Santa's not watching.

Who do you think will be the next Santa?

-Mm... You. -Me?

Um, how old do you think I am?

Fifty.

What's that pine cone on that present?

What's that pine cone on that present?

These are the questions I like to ask

-Yeah. -during the holidays.

Do you have dreams, one day, of perhaps

being a S-- a Santa one day?

-You know, you already have the right name for it... -[laughs]

-...Nicholas. -Oh, God!

I think we could have the next Santa

-on our hands. -[laughs]

Look at the camera here.

-Watch your back. -Oh.

Nicholas is coming for your job.

-Well... -What's that pine cone?

What's that pine cone doing here?

If you could name a new reindeer,

what are we naming the new reindeer?

-Bobby. -Bobby the reindeer?

-Or Lacroix the reindeer. -Lacroix.

I like L-- see, I like Lacroix.

That has a certain je ne sais quoi.

What's that pine cone on the present?

You're never gonna have to see this pine cone again.

This was a huge mistake.

And o-on behalf of CBS

and, in fact, the entire nation,

I'd like to apologize for this pine cone.

What do you think Santa does the next morning after Christmas

to recharge?

-Sleep and sleep and sleep. -Sleep and sleep and sleep.

How long do you think Santa sleeps for?

Until the next Christmas.

What is your favorite thing about Christmas?

Spending time with my family.

-Same for you? -Yeah, I like that, but I also, like,

really like the snacks.

-And you like the snacks? -Yeah.

Family, snacks.

It's kind of a toss-up, right?

How many cookies can you eat in one sitting?

Two whole cookies.

Two whole cookies. You don't feel sick afterwards?

-Yeah. -You do, but it's worth it.

What is your favorite part about having a family?

Like, when my sisters help me with things

and my mom comes and supports me.

What's something that you would want to say to them right now?

We love you so much.

We want you to stay with us forever.

If there was anything you wanted to say to your family,

-what would it be? -I love you.

I'm sure they love you a whole, whole lot.

of a family through adoption right here on our stage.

Omar and Marisela dreamed of their daughter

long before she arrived.

And tonight, their dreams become a reality

as they welcome the newest member

of the Zambrano family.

The perfect Christmas gift.

MARISELA: Omar and I met in 2009.

Then we started traveling.

He took me to Paris,

which was our first trip as a couple.

OMAR: And a year later, we got married on the beach in Hawaii.

For myself, I always knew that

I wanted to have kids, and, uh, her, too.

MARISELA: For us, having a family-- it's everything.

But, you know, I've always knon that I had difficulties

carrying, uh, children.

OMAR: And we tried a total of four times

through IVF.

Each time that it-it wasn't successful,

it-it was devastating.

MARISELA: When we did our last IVF,

seven weeks in, I had another miscarriage

on my birthday.

Then after that, we stopped.

It wasn't a conversation anymore.

OMAR: She would...

...cry herself to sleep.

And I knew it was difficult.

MARISELA: We went to church, and they were talking about

families that wanted to foster or adopt.

And we had just gone through a loss,

so it was something that we were always interested in.

OMAR: And then one day, we got a call

about a little girl that had been born.

She was still in the hospital.

The biological mom had given birth

and-and just left her at the hospital.

It was very emotional because she was just a baby.

I went to go pick her up from the hospital.

I texted Omar and I said,

"There's a baby at the house.

Beware." [laughs]

OMAR: Mari had sent me a picture,

and my first reaction was, wow, you know,

she has a big head. [chuckles]

MARISELA: Just holding her was a joyous thing

that you can ever do as a woman.

OMAR: Apple, from a very young age, she just likes being outside,

whether it's on a slide at the park, at home.

MARISELA: She loves to go out to the trampoline.

She likes to jump on it. She's a very outgoing child.

[laughing]

OMAR: Having Apple now, it finally makes us feel whole,

but not complete, because we want more kids after that.

MARISELA: There is no limit for her.

This is-this is our daughter. Like, it just feels amazing.

Daddy. Mom.

OMAR: And so now that we're at Christmastime,

she's gonna be here.

There's no way to put that into words.

You see it in our experiences.

You see it in our smiles.

It's finally coming true.

She made me a father.

MARISELA: I think leading up to the day,

making it official, makes it complete.

They're gonna be tears of joy.
