so far the local sheriff had been unable

to stop the Marauders wagon after wagon

was robbed after it left the

smelter Doro had prospered because the

gold shipments were handled by the local

bank but now it faced ruin no wonder my

friend Richard wal the president of the

bank had sent for

me I'd been through Doro when it was a

bustling Community now it was almost a

ghost

town

unusual first name too

located in the midst of many small gold

mines practically every one of them

investigation of everyone who worked the

smelter that the always knew when the

gold was leaving and whether the wagon

would take the upper or the Lower Road

Wald and the miners stood to lose their

already passing too and heading straight

for the Railhead well we'll find some

two sheriffs were killed here and we

couldn't get anybody to take the job

dangerous I fought off impatience as I

waited for the first sound of the

approaching

wagon we waited an hour no sign of the

wagon I gave red a gentle hint then he

made the decision I'd been hoping he'd

make for the past 30 minutes he said

we'd better ride on toward the

smelter we backtracked four miles over

the Upper Road no sign of the wagon I

thought possibly Michael had

misunderstood Red's Direction so we

headed for the Lower

Road

we hadn't gone very far before we knew

why the wagon hadn't met us on the upper

[Music]

Road the two guards in the driver were

dead the gold shipment was gone I looked

around the ground I found a trail but it

was too faint to do any good I told red

and wall to ride to the smelter and

asked Michael why the wagon had taken

the wrong road I'd take the wagon back

to

town the next day red and I headed for

Michael's office Michael had told red

and walled he couldn't understand why

the wagon had taken the wrong road he

gave the driver strict orders to take

the Upper Road I was puzzled and now as

I headed for the smelter office I worked

out a plan for red to draw Michael away

from the place

when we got there we got a

surprise I see well I'll have to be

getting back now Sid I'll ride part of

the way with you I want to stop you and

see Jim's wife she's all broken up by

his death

now there's a record about the Opera he

used the word dead that meant to be no

shipment the one where he talked about

pretty

that meant there would be a gold

shipment sure and no matter what road

you told him to use Mr wall they

switched it and Michael tipped off his

honor yeah you were on the right track

funny about those records yeah you got

pretty close too so close that you were

suspicious of me I thought I'd seen one

of those dictating machines in Michael's

office that's what I went there to

find you just didn't look in the right

place it was in that big cabinet well TI

together in jail

comes the harmless old wooden wagon

sitting idle in Sandy Morgan's Livery

stable looked harmless anyhow yet no one

within 50 Mi of Twin Rivers would have

anything to do with it Sandy couldn't

even give it away folks called it the

Jinx wagon and for good reason it had

brought nothing but trouble and

heartaches to anyone who had ever own

ridden or come in contact with it the

last owner had been killed trying to

outrun a pack of

Renegades right after that Sandy Morgan

took over the wagon but he knew better

than to put it in operation he just let

it gather dust using it more for storage

than anything

else so the Jinx wagon just sat there

out of trouble until a night not long

ago when the Twin River's Bank was

robbed the bank wasn't far from The

Livery stable so it didn't take Sandy

any time at all to realize what was

happening what he didn't realize was

that the excitement in Twin Rivers that

night was going to start a chain of

events that would alter quite a few

lives and put the Jinx wagon back in

business

those saddle ponies Mister shake them

loose get them out back and make it fast

give them a hand but keep a gun on

them how's it look that's seing every

building boss hurry it

somehow it just don't seem right boss

quit worrying without this s a full of

bank money we can just be three cow

a hurricane nobody in Twin Rivers knew

about it but the morning after the

robbery contrary to the mass Bandit's

reasoning the Jinx wagon found a new

owner Dan Clemens an elderly Southerner

was on the last leg of his long journey

Westward from Georgia he traveled by

stage as far as Twin Rivers but the last

few miles of his trip were off the stage

route so he needed Transportation Sandy

told him the story behind the Jinx wagon

that Dan Clemens was not W for

Superstition to him a wagon was a wagon

so he went right ahead and

Bard Sandy dusted a few cobwebs off

outfitted it with harnessing and horses

and the Jinx wagon was ready to

roll so Dan Clemens the proud owner of a

wobbly Old Wagon that up to now had

spelled nothing but trouble rode out of

town with a big smile on his

face me and my saddle P red Connors

didn't feel much like smiling though

when we heard about the robbery and were

asked to try and track down the thieves

we both had a little Savings in the bank

ourselves after we got all the

information we'd need from the bank

officials we figured maybe Sandy Morgan

could give us some

answers Sandy went on to tell red me all

about Dan Clemens and his story about

coming out from Georgia Sandy said he

wouldn't even have mentioned it but for

the big roll of bills the old man was

carrying it wasn't much to go on but red

and I figured maybe the wagon was part

of the plan too and if it was the old

gent might lead us right to the rest of

the

gang for the next few hours red and I

put a lot of money miles behind us as we

tracked the Troublesome

wagon wobbly wheels made the wagon

tracks easy to read and following had

been no trouble at

the Gunnies tied me up red was talking a

mile a minute telling me all about the

Jinx wagon and the money the bank

thieves had hidden red said they were

Furious when the money turned up missing

and thought sure Dan had found it and

stashed it somewhere in the

store when they blew the safe open and

found Dan's life savings of $33,000 they

were certain it was part of the bank

money so they tore up the store looking

for the rest when they didn't find it

they figured Dan must have the rest of

the money on him so they just settled

down to wait for his return you're

pretty foxy huh no talking let's see if

he going that cash on

where's the rest of that money and I'm

tired of staying sunny I tell you I

of his men out to Hitch up the team

horses to the wagon so they could carry

Dan when Dan heard he was going to ride

in the Jinx wagon I thought for a moment

he'd rather be

killed

listen but by the time the team horses

were hit Dan had resigned himself to the

wagon as the lesser of the two

evils as soon as we heard them leave I

got to work on my ropes red and I had to

get ourselves free knowing that every

second wasted could be the last and then

clemens's

life I finally got free and released the

others then red and I raced out on the

trail of the

wagon knowing Dan couldn't store forever

we raced against the time the bank

thieves would realize Dan didn't have

the slightest idea where the money
