[The Demon Hunter's Romance]

[Episode 1]

Hurry.

It's raining so heavily.

Yes.

Nan,

it's raining outside.

Don't run around.

Got it.

Ladies,

please come in.

This way.

Welcome.

Two bowls of hot noodles.

That guy is really something.

He's been eating all afternoon.

How long has he starved for?

[Jiu Xuanye]

Please enjoy.

Okay, thank you.

We've been sitting here all afternoon,

watching him eat.

We're not much better.

You're right.

The rain is about to stop.

This way, please.

♫There is grass in the wild♫

♫Dewdrops sparkle atop♫

♫There is a beauty♫

♫Clear and beautiful♫

Nan?

♫I meet her by coincidence♫

Nan!

♫My wish is fulfilled♫

Nan!

♫There is grass in the wild♫

Sir, you're amazing!

Sound eel.

Someone died!

Oh no, I fell for the trap.

This person died.

Thank you.

This...

How come he went in?

Who is he?

The officials!

The officials are here.

My lord.

It's that throat-slitter again.

Did anyone see

what the scoundrel looked like?

-No. -No.

-Didn't see. -Didn't see.

[Duan Yanqiu, County Commandant of Nanyang City]

Be gentle.

Come here, you two.

Come, take this box

to Master's room.

[Duan Residence, Nanyang City]

Come. Yes.

Hurry.

How were you all

in Yuanzhou?

[Duan Banxia]

I was well.

I just missed Grandmother.

I missed you too.

I kept wishing

you could come back as soon as possible.

Yes.

Banxia,

have you recovered from your sickness?

I'm much better.

Then,

[Duan Tian, Duan Banxia's Aunt]

can you still see

those strange things?

[Duan Yingheng, Duan Banxia's Father]

I don't see them anymore after taking the medicine.

That's good.

That means the physician is capable.

The medicine is also effective.

Take the medicine carefully.

[Duan Tao, Duan Banxia's Grandmother]

Don't let your father worry about you.

Grandmother is right.

I will keep it in mind.

Where is Yanqiu?

How come

I don't see Yanqiu?

He’s been busy

with government matters recently.

He was called there early in the morning.

[Duan Heming, Duan Banxia's Uncle]

But

he knows you arrive today,

so he will come back early.

His marriage is soon.

Can't he take a rest?

Recently,

the city has a few

tricky murder cases.

A murderer who slits throats

fled from Guangping to Nanyang,

causing panic among the people.

The higher-ups urged him to solve the case as soon as possible.

They won't allow him to take leave.

Speaking of which,

how come Yanqiu's marriage

was set so hurriedly?

I didn't even hear

which family you've decided on.

Who is it?

Does Yanqiu love her?

Uncle Yingheng, you came so fast.

I went to pick you up at the city gate,

but I was too slow.

Yanqiu is back.

Grandmother.

Uncle Yingheng.

Returning now

won't affect your work, right?

Don't worry.

I've taken care of everything.

Okay.

Greetings, Yanqiu.

Uncle Yingheng wrote in the letter

that your illness has improved a lot.

Yes.

Thanks to you,

the medicine that the physician prescribed works well.

I recovered after a few doses.

That's good.

Demons don't exist

in the world.

Don't think too much nonsense in the future.

Treat your illness if you're ill.

You'll only recover faster

if the medicine is correct.

You're right.

My lady,

what are you doing?

Father's pouch is old.

I'm making him a new one.

My lady,

with your embroidery skills,

you should just buy Master a new one.

My lady,

I just heard a secret.

Do you want to know?

If I don't let you tell me,

you'll suffocate to death.

Tell me.

I heard from Xiang in the kitchen

the Elder Master didn't agree to

Young Master's marriage.

Young Master

made a scene

and scared Elder Madam.

That's how they got engaged.

My lady,

why do you think

Young Master is so bold?

He can marry anyone.

[Tingzhou, Duan Banxia's Maid]

Why does he insist on a performer?

My lady, what do you think?

If a performer marries into our family,

she'll be like a pheasant turning into a phoenix

and completely transform her status.

My lady?

What's wrong?

My lady,

did you see something again?

My lady.

No.

We should mind our own business.

Got it.

Excuse me,

two bowls of tea.

Okay.

More food.

Please come in.

Have a seat.

[Chi Xue]

How is it?

Any news of the Human-faced Owl?

Yes.

It's in the Duan family,

in the west alley of Yongning Fang

of Nanyang City.

They're rich.

You'll find it when you get there.

Okay.

I'll go there first.

Help me take care of the one

behind me.

Behind you?

Youhuang is following you again?

He's haunting me like a ghost.

It's raining. My lady, hurry!

I'll get an umbrella.

Father.

You're back.

I'm going back to my room.

Father, where did you go just now?

I was handling some matters.

You've been going out a lot lately.

Did something happen?

Nothing important.

We haven't

been back in a long time.

I need to take care of

many people and things.

Grandmother asked about my marriage.

Banxia,

I know

you are not satisfied with this marriage.

But a girl must get married

when she grows up.

I'm familiar

with Li Xian.

He is indeed a gentle and polite person.

You can rely on him.

If you marry him,

you won't be mistreated.

Your mother

should be the one helping you with these matters.

What a pity.

Our family

has saved up some wealth.

In the future,

it will be your dowry.

Your cousin

is an official.

No one

can bully you.

Father,

I embroidered

a new pouch for you.

My daughter's embroidery is not bad.

Not bad?

Even Tingzhou said

I should just buy you a new one.

That's different.

[Duan Residence]

Sprinkle grains and beans

to avoid the three evils.

First handful for a beautiful home.

[Weide Hall]

Second for a prosperous family.

Third for happiness and harmony.

Look into the mirror and bow.

Unite as a couple.

Evil spirits shall be exorcised forever.

Bow once.

Bow twice.

Bow thrice.

My lady, hurry up.

You won't see the bride if you're late.

I told you

Master went over long ago.

You didn't believe me.

I'm already walking quickly.

Hurry.

Congratulations.

Congratulations.

Congratulations.

Thank you.

Thank you.

Congratulations.

Come on, Li.

Drink more today.

It's my wedding day.

You must drink more.

Come on. This way.

What's wrong?

My lady.

Tingzhou,

don't you think

the new sister-in-law...

What?

Could she be...

My lady,

did you see something again?

Are you sick again?

The fragrance.

Yes, the calming fragrance.

I didn't see it.

I didn't see anything.

You scared me.

I thought you were sick again.

The auspicious hour is coming.

Ladies and gentlemen,

please be seated.

My lady,

I think the banquet is starting in the front yard.

Let's go to the banquet.

You go first.

What about you?

I'll wait for Father.

I'll go with him when he comes.

Okay.

Are you drunk?

I'm not drunk.

This way, right? This way.

Over there.

No, no.

This way.

Over here!

Honey!

I'm here.

Duan.

Here, here.

Duan,

every moment of the night is precious.

Duan,

we'll see you off here.

Thank you.

See you another day.

See you.

Let's go.

My bride,

nice to meet you.

Who are you?

You actually came

to my bedroom

in the middle of the night.

Manniang,

you're being naughty again.

You scoundrel! How dare you?

Miss,

let's run.

Where are you running to?

There are no doors or windows here.

I really have nowhere to run to.

But Young Master,

I'm already married to someone.

Can you

please...

let me go?

I can't.

I'm in love with your looks.

Why don't you discuss it

with your fiance

to cancel this marriage

and marry me instead?

My husband

is skilled in martial arts,

archery, and equestrianism.

Aren't you afraid he'll fight you

if he finds out?

What a coincidence.

I'm also good at archery and equestrianism,

and skilled in martial arts.

Just tell him.

If he comes,

I can compete with him.

What can I do now that I am

in your hands?

I can only surrender.

Unfortunately,

no one will hear

my ventriloquist skills again.

Yes.

Only I, your husband,

can hear it now.

Be careful!

Are you hurt?

Who are you?

Your wife is a demon.

I'm here to kill demons.

How dare you!

Hurry!

Obey orders!

-Don't move! -Don't move!

He's the one.

Arrest him!

If the demon isn't killed,

your family will have no peace.

Go after him!

-Yes. -Yes.

I've asked.

No one knows.

I see.

You may leave.

Yes.

Everyone is dismissed.

Yes.

Did you see how

that thief got in when you were outside

last night?

It was dark last night.

I was too afraid.

I saw nothing.

Yanqiu,

that man said Sister-in-law is a demon.

Nonsense!

He was spouting nonsense,

but now,

you're adding to the trouble too.

Did you forget to take your medicine?

I'm not the one who said it.

Recently,

there have been many murders in the city.

I'm searching for the murderer.

Maybe the thief is the mastermind.

He must have received some news,

so he came to provoke us.

But don't be afraid.

I've dispatched men

from the government

to guard our home.

No matter how skilled he is,

he won't be able to break in.

You didn't sleep well

due to the commotion last night.

Go back and rest.

Okay.

Wait.

The banquet was in the front yard last night.

Why were you in my courtyard,

instead of eating?

I was late for the ceremony.

I couldn't see my sister-in-law clearly,

so I wanted to visit her.

Your sister-in-law was frightened last night.

Don't disturb her now.

You'll have opportunities to meet in the future.

Yes.

This is a flying fish.

It's gentle

and can be seen everywhere,

but its spiritual power is weak.

In order to survive,

it must hide its form at all times.

Ordinary people can't see it,

but you can,

right?

I can't see.

Then why are you running?

Clearly, you can see it,

but you lie to yourself that you can't.

Do you think you can escape

just by avoiding it?

That's all fake.

You know clearly if it's fake or not.

I know

you're scared,

but don't worry.

I'm a demon hunter.

As long as I'm here,

no demon can hurt you.

Just bravely tell your family

what you saw.

Understand?

Fine.

Go to your cousin now

and tell him the whole story.

Lead him here to see me.

By the way...

If you're able to,

can you

bring me some food?

Like cakes, warm noodles,

and steamed buns. Anything is fine.

Thank you.

Help!

Help!

Help!

The thief is here!

My lady,

what's wrong?

Hurry.

The thief from last night

is in my room.

Hurry!

Go!

What happened?

Where did he go?

Ms. Duan,

when Physician Sun comes back,

I will notify you.

Don't you still have the calming fragrance?

You can sniff it

when your illness returns.

I guarantee your vision will be clear

and your heart will be calm.

Take care.

Thank you.

Great!

Stop running.

I just want to make things clear.

I won't hurt you.

You...

Just listen to him.

Don't be afraid.

Why did she run away?

Who told you to come here?

I came to help you.

Second Lady.

Second Lady.

What's wrong with Second Lady?

I don't know.

My lady.

My lady.

Young Master sent a box

of desserts from Liupinju over.

They're still warm.

What's wrong?

You don’t look well.

Young Master is so nice to you.

He still remembers

you like the desserts here.

Tingzhou?

Have you heard of

how my brother and sister-in-law

met each other?

Of course.

I wouldn't dare to tell you

if you didn't ask me.

Xiang told me

three months ago,

a ventriloquist

came to the city.

She was very talented.

It is said that

she could imitate anyone,

no matter the age, gender, or species.

She had delicate lips and voice.

If you listened with your eyes closed,

it would sound so real.

Bravo!

Lord Duan.

Lord Duan.

Great! Great!

Awesome!

Bravo.

Listen.

This is really enjoyable.

Young Master also went to listen.

He ended up

becoming mesmerized.

Great!

I'll take you to the market today.

Grandpa, I want to buy something delicious and fun.

The market

has everything.

If you see anything fun,

I'll buy it all for you.

Sounds so alike.

Great!

[Flowery Snow]

She's here.

She's so pretty.

That's right. It's a woman.

Tell me.

How could

the household agree

to him marrying a performer

who hasn't even been on a proper stage?

It's such a joke!

But Young Master didn’t listen.

He even said

he would only marry her.

In the end,

he made a big fuss at home.

You know what happened later.

Young Master is an official now.

The Elder Master can’t control him

and Elder Madam dotes on him.

He can do whatever he wants,

He finally succeeded in the end.

I wonder what happened

on the wedding night.

Anyway,

Young Master said

the new madam was frightened.

Now, she can't even leave her room.

She hasn't even greeted

the two madams yet.

She hasn't served the bride's tea either.

How can everyone be happy with this?

Actually,

everyone can see that

the new madam is not a simple person,

but Young Master

protects her

like he's lost his mind.

I wonder what kind of spell he's under.

Second Lady, please wait a moment.

Greetings, Sister-in-law.

We are family now.

No need to be so courteous.

Are you here to see me?

A thief broke into our home

and scared you.

I came to see how you are doing.

Thank you.

I'm okay.

I'll be fine after a few days of rest.

Don't be shy.

Let's sit and talk.

I haven't been out for the past few days,

so I didn't prepare any snacks at home.

I only have some flower cakes from Liupinju.

I hope you don't mind.

Sister-in-law, no need.

Please sit down and rest.

I have a headache these days.

I couldn't visit Grandmother

as according to customs.

You are not feeling well.

I don't think

Grandmother would blame you.

Since I came to this household,

only you

came to see me.

Unlike you,

I don't have a father or brother to protect me.

I grew up wandering around the world,

performing for a living.

Luckily, I met Qiu.

He didn't mind my lowly background

and insisted on marrying me as his wife.

You might laugh at me,

but even now,

I still can't believe

that all of this is real.

When I wake up,

I forget where I am.

It's like a dream.

I know everyone dislikes me

and think I've bewitched Qiu.

I won't deny it.

I couldn't dissuade him

or my heart

and became greedy.

That's why there are conflicts in your family.

But Banxia...

I truly like him.

I want to be with him forever.

Do you believe me?

Yes.

I do.

You're so nice.

In this house,

you're the best person to me,

other than Qiu.

That day at the main hall,

I only glanced at you

through the veil,

and I thought you were

someone I could have heart-to-heart talks with.

Unfortunately,

you're only

staying here temporarily.

Otherwise,

we can be together forever.

You're so beautiful.

Your skin is so fair

and you have a nice voice.

I heard that you're already engaged to someone.

I wonder which family

is so lucky to have you.

Sister-in-law,

I suddenly feel

I might have caught a cold.

I want to go back and rest.

It's rare for you to visit.

Sister-in-law,

I'm going back to rest.

Amazing.

Wow.

Awesome!

Bravo! Bravo!

Rabbit guy!

Rabbit guy!

Rabbit guy!

Are you looking for me?

Who exactly are you?

Didn't I tell you before?

I'm just a demon hunter.

Do demons really exist?

Since you're looking for me,

you must have made up your mind.

Demons are the spirits created from the world

and born from the void.

They exist between illusion and reality.

They can be hazy

or have a tangible shape.

The largest ones

can hover in the universe,

swallowing stars and moon.

The smallest ones

are like stones and pebbles,

nameless.

Humans and demons are from two worlds,

but

we can coexist.

However, some demons

are delusional

and want to intervene in the human world.

Other demons

would sacrifice their cultivation

just to harm people.

This kind of demon

must be eliminated.

What about my eyes?

Most demons

are proficient in

disguise and invisibility.

As long as they don't show up voluntarily,

ordinary people can't see them.

But not only can you

see through their disguise,

you can even

see through their invisibility.

This talent

is one in a million.

What? You don't like it?

Calming fragrance?

It's harmful.

This thing

can temporarily

cover your divine consciousness

so you're unable to see those things.

However, smelling it too much is bad for your brain.

Is what you just said

all true?

If you didn't believe me,

you wouldn't have come to me.

I believe there are demons in the world.

But how do I know

if you really are a demon hunter?

You came to Nanyang City

to attend

your brother's wedding?

What a coincidence.

There is a wedding

in this place today.

Look.

They're here.

Who's here?

You used the calming fragrance?

That thing

will only weaken your five senses

and ruin

your rare vision.

How about this?

This is a rare opportunity.

I’ll use hypostasis water

to help you see again.

No thanks.

I...

It will sting.

Hang in there.

What is this?

Now take a look

and see if you can see it.

It's okay.

Don't be scared.
