Ladies and gentlemen,
here behind me at the castle
is the
Great Gallery,
the most beautiful room in the castle.
With chandeliers, mirrors and gorgeous ceiling frescos.
And the most beautiful room in the castle
deserves the most beautiful ballet in the world.
The members of this world famous ballet will now dance a wonderful polka for you
Without a Care!
Big applause for the Vienna State Ballet.
Big applause
for the Vienna State Ballet.
Fantastic.
Bravo!
Bravissimo. Thank you.
Everybody knows, ladies and gentlemen,
that Sissi did not have the easiest time here in the beginning.
Imagine a sixteen year old girl falling in love with the emperor,
they get married
and that young woman ends up living here
in this huge castle and has to adapt to the strict
Spanish court ceremonial.
There's hardly any other woman
who's been written and talked about as much as Sissi.
There's even a musical about her. A musical that
premiered here in Vienna and has attracted millions of viewers.
Elisabeth.
And from that musical, ladies and gentlemen,
we are going to play one of the most beautiful songs.
And who better to sing that song, ladies and gentlemen,
than young Sissi herself.
Here she is, big applause, Elisabeth, Suzan Erens.
Bravissimo. Elisabeth. Susan Erens.
The next piece we are going to play now, ladies and gentlemen,
comes from church music.
It's composed by Andrew Lloyd Webber.
When you're in the middle of Vienna
on stage with an orchestra
what better thing to play than a glorious waltz
by Johann Strauss. A glorious Viennese waltz.
Plus the best ballet in the world,
the crème de la crème of dance.
There is no other ballet in the world, ladies and gentlemen,
that can dance a Viennese Waltz like this ballet.
Big applause for
the world famous Vienna State Ballet.
Bravo.
Big applause for the Vienna State Ballet.
Big applause, ladies and gentlemen.
Thank you.
Dear Queen Máxima.
That sounds fun, right? Queen Máxima.
Especially for you, we are going to
play the most beautiful song ever composed about your country.
Don't cry for me Argentina.
Give her an enormous applause. Mirusia Louwerse.
Mirusia Louwerse.
Thank you.
Ladies and gentlemen, I take you with me,
to the king's palace.
There is a big party, because the princess just turned 17.
And the king wanted to give her an unforgettable party.
He had invited all the princes and princesses from the neighborhood.
Let's imagine this, the magnificent ballroom,
lit by thousands of candles. Footmen went back and forth with beer and wine.
And suddenly...
On the exact moment the clock strikes 12...
That's only 3.
Then, half of the orchestra started playing a waltz.
Of course, a waltz.
And which waltz could we play better than
the most enchanting waltz Cinderella.
I've told you that the University of Heidelberg is world famous,
but did you know that the city of Heidelberg is also world famous?
All over the world.
Even at the other end of the world in Australia.
Yes.
We've been working with an Australian soprano for the past two years
and after every concert she asks:
"And what's next?"
"What are we doing next?"
"Heidelberg?"
"André, I've lost my hearing in Heidelberg."
Big applause for
our Australian soprano Mirusia Louwerse.
You've fallen in love with a Heidelberger, show him to us.
Not just with one,
-with two. -Two?
Yes. Two.
There.
Mirusia Louwerse.
And the two short Italians.
We look so happy when we can make such music.
I tell you, ladies and gentlemen,
making music is the best thing for your health.
Truly, when you make music... Music goes straight to your heart.
It evokes emotions. It brings joy.
Making music keeps you forever young.
Look at The Staar.
They have been singing for 125 years
and they still look like 125.
The Mastreechter Staar.
That's forever young.
Ladies and gentlemen, a long time ago,
a little girl
came to my concert.
Together with her mother.
The entire concert,
she listened
with her mouth wide open.
And on the way home, she said to her mother: "Mommy,
when I grow up, I want to play in André Rieu's orchestra too."
And then her mother said: "Yes, sweetheart,
you can certainly do that, but you'll have to study for many, many years."
And she did study.
She became a fantastic cellist.
And I am incredibly proud that she plays in my orchestra.
Give her a huge round of applause. Tanja Derwahl.
Tanja is going to play for you
one of the most beautiful solos ever
written for cello for you.
From Camille Saint-Saëns,
Le cygne. The Swan.
And when you hear this beautiful music
and close your eyes,
you will see a white swan gliding over the water.
And here comes the surprise.
Especially for you,
I have invited today,
four-time world champion ice dancer.
Robin Szolkowy and Aljona Savchenko.
And on the other side,
their teacher, also a world champion himself.
Ingo Steuer and Peggy Schwarz.
Give them a huge round of applause.
Our world champion ice dancers, Aljona Savchenko and Robin Szolkowy.
Ingo Steuer and Peggy Schwarz.
And of course our white swan, Tanja Derwahl.
I travel the world with my orchestra, ladies and gentlemen,
North to South and East to West.
We visit all kinds of countries.
And all those countries have different customs.
Many different national dishes.
And that can be a bit difficult for us.
When you have the choice between fried worms,
cow's eye soup
or cooked dog,
you're very glad
when you are saved
by a certain dish on the menu, a Schnitzel!
Schnitzel is popular all over the world.
Viennese cuisine is popular all over the world.
Wienerschnitzel, Viennese sausage,
fried chicken, hot chocolate with cream.
Everybody loves Viennese cuisine.
Let's start playing before we all get hungry.
We're now going to play a proper Viennese
perpetual motion for you.
And so on.
Good evening. How is everything going?
