(inspirational music)

(indistinct radio chatter)

- [Radio] Go ahead.

(indistinct radio chatter continues)

- [Radio] Sergeant Travis

- Sergeant Travis.

These are the paper form documents.

I'll email you the digital copies

when I get back to my desk.

You wanna go ahead and do the identification now?

- No, I'm not family.

- What are you doing here?

- It's my building.

- You're not welcome.

- Actually, Travis,

yeah, I'm always welcome here.

- What do you want?

- I figured (sighs) it's time to talk.

Work out our differences.

Let's get back to business.

You know, those things I said at the hearing,

about your daughter, your mom,

all of it.

Everybody on that panel, they already knew all that stuff.

Hodge Boyd, Hank Reynolds,

they were gonna bury you with it, Gary.

So I struck first to protect ya, as a friend

but then you had to throw your little tantrum.

And we all know how that turned down.

- You're so full of -

- Hey, hey, watch how you address me.

(somber music)

- The full autopsy results are gonna give us the best picture.

But from the preliminary findings,

I can make the time of death between

12 and 15 hours prior to discovery.

- Why was there no blood on the concrete?

- Hm, once the heart stops pumping,

even with single bullet shot,

(pen clicks)

the dead just don't bleed much.

- Look, I know the deal with this Anthony kid

has you shook up.

But you have a job to do.

Maybe it'll make you feel better knowing

I'm turning this investigation over to Millwood.

He's your guy.

He'll take lead on it.

But you, you gotta put on your big boy pants

and snap out of whatever this is.

- Why are you giving it to Tre?

Why not Kris? She's precinct one.

- You haven't heard?

She's gone.

Never came back from leave after her brother croaked.

- What do you mean Kris is gone?

- Sent me her resignation.

Left town, didn't come to the office to pick up her stuff.

No hugs, no kisses, nothing.

I guess finding his body was too much.

More than she can take, I mean, what are you gonna do?

- Unfortunately, we're gonna have to keep the remains

until we get a positive ID.

Eh, over the years

chain of custody on a corpse has become a huge pain -

- Can you please not use the term corpse?

Please.

I knew this person.

- Certainly.

Yes sir.

- You know there is another option.

Severance check and a letter from yours truly

thanking you for your many years of fine service to

the City of East Bank.

And there's a promotion waiting for you over in Fort Worth.

Already called my buddies, it's as good as done.

Take Becky on a little vacation.

Start the new job in two weeks.

Come in fresh.

What do you say?

(tense music)

- I, I can uh,

I can move the sheet if you want.

- You'll have my resignation when this case is solved,

and Anthony's safe.

(foreboding music)

(pop music)

- My dad knows that guy who murdered his girlfriend

so he's all freaking out and won't let me go anywhere.

- [Friend] Okay, so be smart about it.

- What do you mean?

- [Friend] Like, tell him you have a babysitting job

or a class project or a late practice.

- Then he'd drive me himself, wouldn't work.

He's paranoid.

- [Friend] Hmm, okay.

I have another idea.

Why don't you give up on Blake,

'cause he's not gonna wait forever.

Okay, what about your mom?

Can you ask to go see her again?

Because I bet she'd actually let you have a life.

- [Dad] Hayden.

- He's home.

I'll think of something.

Talk to you later.

(computer lid slams)

(phone ringing)

- Yeah, I told him Hayden can stay with you

while we're looking.

Yeah, I gotta go.

Love you.

- Sir uh, Kevin from Precinct One is here to see you.

- Thanks, I thought I told you to go home.

Get some rest.

- I don't mind.

I thrive running on fumes,

and I can't sleep when my mental motor is running.

Besides, Sherman would rather I be here

than at home driving him nuts.

So, I'm here until I run outta gas and collapse.

- Well, please don't collapse, just take care of yourself.

- Right, sir.

Um -

- Hey, what you got?

- Completed autopsy results.

Hannah made some calls and worked her magic.

- Thank you Hannah.

Girlfriend's a keeper.

- (clears throat) Uh, oops, it's actually fiancee now.

- You're so in for it.

- So in for it, what do you mean?

- Nevermind.

So what do we know?

- Uh, time of death,

approximately 12 a.m. to 1 a.m. on the fifth.

Single gunshot wound.

Close range.

And you can see the trajectory here.

They recovered a nine millimeter hollow point round

from the chest cavity.

- Tre, come in here.

You'll wanna hear this

- Now what's interesting is that she bled out

for several hours,

but rigor mortis had already set in

at the warehouse where we found her.

That's why there was very little blood on the ground.

- So we got another crime scene somewhere.

She wasn't shot where we found her.

- Correct.

- Maybe that explains the missing jacket

her family says she was wearing

when she went to work that night.

- You got anything else?

- No bruising, no scratch marks, nothing.

Postmortem toxicology results are normal.

No signs of sexual assault.

And um, there was evidence intact,

that she had never been, well, with with anyone.

- What about fibers, anything that would point to a suspect?

- Hm, no, not here.

They are still processing her clothing.

- This is terrible man.

- I appreciate your help Kevin.

- No problem.

Oh hey, have you guys talked to Kris since she left?

- No, I tried her on her phone, it's disconnected.

You have a way to reach her?

Family, anything?

- Well, uh -

I may have done some research in the past,

at some point on her genealogical roots.

- Mmm Hmm.

- I'll see what I can find.

- We can drop these off at the post office,

the church, maybe the community center?

- Do you need me to stay here with you?

- No, you go with Leslie.

I plan to drop some off at the Main Street businesses,

see if they'll hang some up.

Actually no, I need to stay here, in case he comes home.

- Okay, I'll take these and pass them out,

so that you don't have to worry about it.

(somber music)

- Everyone is praying Becky, everyone.

Gary is great at what he does

and God's been preparing him for this.

I know our prayers are gonna be heard,

and Anthony is gonna be back home soon.

- Yeah, thank you.

- You call us if you need anything.

- I will.

(door slams)

(water running)

Hey, you know you don't have to do those.

- Oh nah, it's all right.

I used to ask for dish duty on the inside,

'cause it kind of helped pass the time.

And I do 'em every day at work too, so I don't really mind.

- No, I mean we have a dishwasher,

so you don't have to do those.

- Oh!

Yeah, that might be a little easier.

- (laughs) Let me help.

(sad music)

(office chatter)

(knocking)

- Detective Millwood?

- Hi, what's up Janet?

Hey, you know you can call me Tre, right?

- Right, cool.

You got it bro (laughs) Tre -

- Uh, you know what?

Let's uh, let's hold off on that right now.

Detective Millwood's just fine

- Right.

Oh hey.

- Yeah?

- You know I will work for you guys

as long and, as often as you need me to.

But I need to ask you something,

and however you respond I'll accept.

- Okay.

- Do you think it was Anthony?

- (sighs) Um, I'm following evidence.

I'll say that much.

- Does Travis think it was him?

- I don't think Travis is ready to even consider

that as a possibility right now.

He's just focused on finding Anthony, so.

- Right.

Okay.

That's all.

I'm outta here, I'm leaving.

Was never here.

A ghost.

- I did get your email.

- Well I think it's only fair for what he's asking.

- Hm, it's valid.

I agree.

- I'm gonna go.

- Not sure how I feel about your proposal.

- Amanda, what can I do to make you feel

really, really good about it?

- Here's the problem.

Closing precinct two requires upfront costs.

The council's going to have to vote to reassign funds.

- And I have been assured they're gonna vote

to do just that.

Look the council, they're smart enough to know

that opening Precinct Two,

big mistake for a city our size, so -

- I wouldn't be so sure about that.

- And why is that?

- Have you talked to Hodge Boyd?

He sent out a big list full of questions and concerns.

I have it.

Oh, and if it does close, Travis, I want him to stay.

That is a non-negotiable.

- I'll uh, I'll talk to Hodge.

Why don't you forward me that list, okay?

- You got it.

See ya.

(tense music)

- Man, is this thing stuffed full of money?

- (scoffs) What money?

No, it's just a few guns, family documents,

heirlooms, stuff like that.

Nothing like you see in the movies.

(door rattles)

- Wouldn't it be hard to get a gun outta here

if you needed it?

- What, should I be worried?

(Anthony laughs)

I got a few guns stashed around the house for protection.

(echoes) For protection, for protection, for protection.

(Gary sighs)

- Hey Gary, they're here.

- Hey bud, come on in.

- Do I have to?

- What?

- Can I go sit on the couch?

- Yeah, sure.

Go please.

(sighs) Teenagers.

- What's that about?

- She's been hanging out with these older kids.

Y'know, driver's licenses and cars.

She's mad that I'm not letting her

go out with them whenever she wants.

- (sighs) That sounds familiar.

Well, open communication is the key.

Trust me, I've been there.

- [Brian] How are you doing man?

- I found out the cell phone trace put Anthony

at the warehouse where the girl's body was found.

- There's, there's no way.

- Yeah, I don't believe it either, but,

then I found that.

- He took a gun?

- I don't know.

That's the only explanation I can come up with though.

- So what happens next?

Can we keep looking for him?

- No charges have been filed.

He's still a missing person so we can go out.

But Tre, my detective, he's working the case.

I gotta keep my distance because of my relationship

with Anthony, so.

- That's why we find him first.

Let me see the map.

Where do you wanna hit tonight?

(paper rustles)

(ominous music)

(door creaks)

- Well, this is a mess.

- About time Mr. Reynolds.

- I hope you have some ideas.

- You spook really easily, don't you?

- Easily?

A girl is dead, Bill.

- And her secrets are dead too.

Do you remember those?

Marco made 'em all disappear.

- Yeah, and Marco bailed on you.

- Marco is taking care of some other matters.

- Uh huh, he had to hide.

Gosh, do you realize if the Feds had been tracking him?

- The Feds are not in East Bank, we're a tiny speck.

Gimme a break.

- I'm starting to to feel the heat, okay?

You told me this was airtight.

Do you - (huffs)

If we lose one more?

One more on the council.

- Who, Hodge?

Hey, bring him in.

Thought you'd ask for more money with Marco gone, huh?

Decided to play a little hardball, did we?

(thudding) (yelling)

Vince and Raven here, they're good friends of Marco.

They do not like be yanked around by greedy businessmen.

(claps)

- How loud do you want him to scream?

- Uh, well careful with his face

'cause he has to give a presentation next week

to the council, but,

other than that I honestly don't care.

(boot thuds against flesh)

(Hodge screams)

- Okay, so that's one problem.

(Hodge groans)

What about Detective Tanner?

- What you're not satisfied how we dealt with her?

- I'm still nervous, okay?

(Hodge grunting)

- Looks like Hodge is having a change of heart.

So I think our problems are gonna take,

take care of themselves real soon.

- Yeah, I've heard that before.

- Vince.

Come here.

- Need you to make sure my boys

get that murder weapon, okay?

- They'll have it tomorrow.

- Good man.

(Hodge gasping)

(radio chatter)

- It's right over here.

I don't see a trail or anything.

It's just all kind of pooled right here.

It's pretty dry too, but the clerk who found it

said she didn't see it the last time she came out here.

- CID on the way to preserve it, confirm it's human?

- Yeah, they on the way.

I got photos of the jacket too so,

we can take it back to the family, see if they can ID it.

I mean it's not a smoking gun or anything, but you know.

- Hey Millwood.

- Yeah.

- That yours?

(ominous music)

- Check the serial.

(sirens blaring)

- This is a manhunt.

The suspect should be considered armed and dangerous.

His name is Anthony Jackson.

And based on an abundance of evidence,

he's been charged with the murder of his girlfriend.

Mr. Jackson is a convicted felon,

with a history of violent crime.

Now, based on some tips, we have reason to believe

that he's most likely still in East Bank.

That puts our community in danger,

our families and our friends.

So it's our job tonight to bring this man in.

Let's move out.

(intense music)

(knocking)

- Come in.

(sighing)

- I know you're mad at me about these rules,

and that's, that's fine.

But,

sometimes I have to make decisions that I believe

are in your best interest.

And these new friends, going out at night.

I just don't think either of us are ready for that yet.

I know I'm not ready yet.

- I understand your reasons.

- Thank you.

It's not easy for me either,

to be the bad guy.

I - I just want to be dad.

- You'll always be dad.

- Love you.

Goodnight.

(somber music)

(door shuts)

(suspenseful music)

(radio chatter)

(suspenseful music continues)

- Hey, has anyone checked those metal buildings

(static) over off of Fifth street, over.

- [Radio] I'm about to circle back,

I can meet you over there.

- [Radio] Ten-four.

- So, um,

you know how uh, like at at church,

how he was talking about not everybody goes to heaven?

- Right.

- Well I was thinking about that and like,

what I believe in,

the two groups he talked about like

how when they die they go to different places.

I couldn't, I couldn't answer which, which one was me.

- Well, that's uh, that's a big one.

Why don't we, uh, talk to Pastor Rob next Sunday.

You know, he'd be better explaining it than I would.

Sound good?

- Yeah.

Yeah, we can do that.

(door slams)

[Radio] Zero four four.

I'm going to need some units to respond

to 2400 4th street with me.

I think we have a body.

(ominous music)
