I now have my lab environment fully created however it's likely at some point I'm going to want to shut down the slide

Hermit because we're running vsan on our cluster we have to be cautious about how we shut

Shut down the lab environment so what we need to do in order to shut it down is good RV stand Closter

And we need to put each of our host into maintenance mode

We don't want to move virtual machines

And we don't want to migrate any data at this point in time we don't have any virtual machines but if we did we want to shut those down for

It's tempting to try to put all three hosts into maintenance mode at the same time however it's likely that two of them will stay

Spell is it only allows for one to go into maintenance mode at a time so we just go through and do each one individually

And now that they're in maintenance mode we can select all three

And we can

Shut them down

Now we'll know that they're shut down once a little green arrow is go off of the virtual machines

Now that all three of them are off next I can right-click on vcenter server

And shut down the guest OS and then I can do Control Center and shut it down then when powering them on I'll do them in the river

Reverse order control center VM first vcenter server and then the three esxi host

Well I have these three esxi host shutdown I'd like to edit the hardware on them

So we go down to edit settings

And I want to add two additional network adapters so that we can play around a little bit more with a networking

So click on ADD and add

Same thing with two and three

Now that my changes are made I can power them back on I can't multi-select anything that's on

On the left menu so what I want to do is go to the cluster

Virtual machines and now that they're in the middle I can hold down the shift key and select all three Empower them on Olive

Once they come back online then we should see the status change here if I want I can monitor one of the

Them by opening up the console

If you happen to end up in a situation where mouse gets stuck and you can't release it ctrl-alt-delete

I'll always be picked up by the original desktop

And then you can go to task manager

As of 6.5 update manager has finally been integrated into both the web

Client as well as the vcenter server Appliance so there's no longer any additional installation necessary to use up

Stage manager we go to home and update manager from here we can select our Visa

Center server in this is where we'll manage our baselines baselines are simply list of patches that we want to have installed

Honor esxi host

As you can see there are two basslines created automatically critical and non-critical patches

If we go back to host and clusters

I can select my cluster

Go over to update manager and attach it to one or both of those bass lines

Put on okay

And now we want to scan for updates

And it's going to scan through my tri esxi host and verify that they do currently have all of the

Patches available in the future there should be patches available for 6.5 and then I'd be able to remediate the host no shuttle

I'm down one of the time as it goes through the upgrade process

Once I'm done working on the esxi host I need to take them out of maintenance mode

Once again I can select all three and I can exit all three at the same time you might get some warnings about vsan

Anytime that you shutdown and restart your esxi host but that should be fine
