I've met Ernie on
a few different occasions.

And he is the nicest person.

His love for the show

shines through in

What I am is a fan
who embraces the culture.

It's not about just
watching a show.

It's not a show.

This is a way of life.

I can't believe this is real.

I can't believe this
is actually happening.

I can't believe I'm
actually gonna do this.

Here I am, made it to Mexico.

God, I feel like my heart
is beating in my chest.

My advice for Ernie

is you look back and
those hardest moments

are all going to be worth it.

When I first saw this show,

I was

instantly drawn to it.

I knew that this show was made

for crazy people like me.

This is insane.

Just the concept

of being stripped
down from everything.

I like the idea of growth

and expansion and
challenging yourself.

That's why I decided

to become a
personal trainer. It was

because I didn't touch a weight

until I was 36 years old.

I was lost.

I was depressed and
fitness changed my life.

It made me confident,
made me strong.

And I wanted to be able to
make people feel that way.

I'm nervous.

You're nervous? Why?

I want to be able to
show my daughters

that I can do this.

Being in the military,
in the Marine Corps,

I was a combat engineer.

When we were in Iraq,
we had to fix the roads

that were destroyed by IEDs.

Those were all huge challenges.

And this show is
one big challenge.

And it's something that I
truly believe that I am built for.

But as excited as I am,

I'm not even naked.

And I'm already
kind of afraid.

If I'm being a little honest.

Like, this is real.

Just looking around
and seeing the thorns.

There's jaguars, pumas.

There are some lethal spiders.

Like, it literally feels

insane.

But 14 days in the
Yucatan Peninsula,

like, let's do it.

We're here. It's game time.

Mandy begins
this 14-day fan challenge

with a primitive survival
rating of 4.6 out of 10.

Honestly, being naked
is the least of my concerns.

Take my clothes and keep them.

But I'm very nervous
about my partner.

All right, I'm off to go
meet my jungle friend.

I can't
believe I'm doing this.

And it hasn't been

So, yeah, I'm not
doing it any favors today.

And here comes

When I first watched
Naked and Afraid,

I thought these people
are out of their minds.

Yeah!

And then I started learning
more about bushcraft,

learning more about survival.

Pretty close. Not
bad for an amateur.

You know, I was in the
Army for almost 30 years.

I was a police officer.

And I realized that this
is something I can do.

These are my people.

But, you know, I feel
a little bit like Toto.

I'm not in Arkansas anymore.

Bugs are everywhere.

Tarantulas, scorpions, bats.

But, you know, hey, what's
life without a little adventure?

Let's do this.

Ernie
begins his challenge

with a primitive

I am not a naked person.

I am not a nudist.

But,

I am absolutely
gonna do 14 days.

To begin their
14-day fan challenge,

Mandy and Ernie will
head four miles southwest

through Mexico's rugged
northern Yucatan Peninsula,

a brutal terrain of dense jungle

and razor-sharp limestone rocks.

In the summer,
blistering triple-digit heat

gives way to violent
tropical storms

that strike without warning.

Beneath the dense canopy,

there are predatory puma,

venomous spiders,

rabies-carrying vampire bats,

and the highly
aggressive cottonmouth,

a deadly threat on
both water and land.

Okay.

Here we go.

Okay. So this
stone's a little sharp.

- Sharp stones, got it.

There's rocks everywhere.

there's no rivers
and it's all limestone.

My first impressions
of Ernie are awesome.

His energy, like,
he is so excited.

Um, I love the fact that
he is, like, a super fan.

A cave can
be a really good win

because it provides us shelter.

We're out of the elements.

It'll protect us. It'll
help us keep in heat.

I don't know, 'cause
it's, like, inside caves are bats

and spiders and snakes

and whatever wants
to hang out in there.

Could have been bats.

Most
bats will run away.

I'm not 100% against down here.

I'm worried that as
the sun goes down,

it's just, we're gonna run
out of time exponentially.

We'll
have to burn it out

and that'll get rid of the bugs

And it even looks
like it has its own little

conduit system over
here of water collection.

Starting fire was something
that I did not know how to do,

and it was something
that I really tried hard

to be able to do to be
able to apply for the show.

And so my biggest fear is, like,

practicing making fire

and then it not working out.

I just want it to light so bad.

I need something dry.

it. I'm not worried about it.

Last night, we lost our fire.

All these trees that are fallen,

I mean, I know they're
really thin and small,

know that they're dry.

Sometimes, if
you can't find a solution,

you just got to make one.

When you watch
people in human environments,

jungles, the Amazon, all that,

you say to yourself
in your head,

"Wow, that
really looks hard."

But when you're out here,

you start going through
your head and go,

is impossible."

fire, which means

now we can explore the area.

running the group fitness classes,

I have a very strict regimen

of, like, high protein
all the time, every day,

trying to fuel my body.

And so that's why

finding a good source of food

is so important to me.

So I was really nervous.

Nowhere dry to lay down.

our cave is gonna flood.

It's important
for us to be safe.

I don't foresee it
getting much better.

We may need to move.

I think if we wait any longer,

it would be counterproductive.

You know, it doesn't have a
whole lot of food options here.

Okay, so
let's look at the map.

If this is our insertion, right?

This is where we ended up.

- It looks like a cenote there.
- Yeah.

And at the size of that cenote,

there'll be more things around.

To the north,
through three miles

of thick jungle,

lies one of the
area's large cenotes,

a natural sinkhole
in the limestone,

filled with life-sustaining
groundwater.

But these pools also contain

hidden dangers,

including deadly water moccasin,

caiman,

and the American crocodile

that can grow over 15 feet long

and has one of the
strongest bites of any animal,

with a crushing force

of over 3,700 pounds
per square inch.

But if
you figure we did,

what, a few miles
just to get here...

- Yeah.
- ...it's gonna be a few miles

- to get there.
- To get there, I know.

I know going to the next spot

is a risk,

but we can't stay here.

- I'll work on some shoes.
- Cool.

I have never made shoes,

but I'm determined to
make these shoes.

in the entire walls

with as much wood as possible.

some greenery
to fill in the gaps.

It's tedious, but,
like, I want us to have

what we see people have

when they're in a
storm and they're okay

and not in panic mode.

get us something to eat.

but I don't see any fish in it.

have moved from

being a true fan
to something more.

There's no greater honor
than to be able to know
