All right, so this is the space as

you can see Super boring super challenging crappy

light not a single window in the entire

room.

It's essentially a conference boardroom and It's adjacent

the space where the ceremony is going to

be happening as you're gonna see And so

here we go.

I mean it is what it is So

I'm there before will I'm just me in

this empty space So I'm gonna put one

of my flashes on the light stand and

you can see the little clamp.

We've got on the top of our light

stand there Wheels arriving But this isn't the

first time that we saw each other today

I saw him earlier in the morning Okay,

my other flash I'm gonna mount it up

on this light fixture here because that is

literally the only mirror in the entire room

and I positioned it here intentionally Because it

felt like the least worst spot To have

it and as well as because I had

this light fixture right beside it, which allowed

me to clamp my flash Okay, now I'm

just trying to eyeball it Position it so

that it's gonna hit people in there in

front of the mirror Everyone's a little bit

shorter than me.

Of course, I have to crouch All right,

so some of the guys are arriving and

I'm just trying to Make compositions of whatever

is happening So this would have been about

two hours Start to finish in this room

maybe hour and a half Those

masks, of course hide the expression which makes

it challenging and Often this is what we

see people looking down Especially with with their

phones these days and so often The best

bet in those situations is to go down

low with the camera shoot up through whatever

they're looking at in towards their eyes Okay,

so now I'm hearing voices There's possibly some

moments about to happen But not really in

this case.

And of course, we've still got the masks

Okay, so this is the ceremony spaces you're

gonna see later But it's adjacent the room

where the guys are getting ready And so

we'll would be back and forth between this

space and and the other room and so

I would just follow him This is the

case where?

Will's dad arrived and I got to meet

him for the first time Okay, we're

back in the room You know moments are

starting to happen there's laughter now some masks

are coming off For

the most part.

I'm shooting natural light on the fly here

Unless there Unless they're sitting somewhere where it

looks like I've got the potential to bring

in a flash You'll see I play around

this little This little reflective mirror throughout the

morning Here's a case where you know, okay,

they're sitting down here having a conversation.

I've got maybe a couple minutes Let's see

if I can get some interesting light coming

in from the side on will here Okay,

and whenever I see this sort of thing

I'm thinking shoot through potential layering potential Can

I layer will through there and I've got

that flash that I mounted I think the

flash was in position here so I can

light will yeah, you can see there I've

got some light on will and The reason

for shooting through and layering like this is

obviously because I can layer in multiple stories,

but it also fills the frame One of

the one of the challenging things in a

space like this is it's so open and

there's so much Ugly wall space filling your

frame unless you're getting really close or shooting

through Something layering something in to fill the

rest of the flame fill the rest of

the frame.

Okay, just adjusting that flash Anticipating that things

are gonna start happening in front of that

mirror soon I'm playing around with some wine

glasses here.

I just had the idea to maybe shoot

through because I Got 15 or 20 minutes

of nothing.

They're sitting down having lunch, right?

They're just eating I'm not gonna get any

great shots of people eating.

So it's an opportunity to try something a

little bit different and To just keep working

through it, right?

You see I've got a I've got a

flash Coming in on will there from this

side and then I decided to try to

get a light source on the wine glasses

to light up the foreground and I actually

put a Green gel in front of the

flashlight on my phone.

They're just just playing around Trying to fill

the frame with something interesting something other than

those ugly walls, okay wheels now on the

phone here, you know So I've got time

to position that light and then just get

in close and fill the frame another

chance to maybe shoot through Will's arms there

and get her reaction through there Again,

I'm often Flipping back and forth between the

cameras with the different lenses and here I

am trying again I don't think this worked

in this case, but I'm trying to use

that reflection to again fill the frame and

layer stories Okay, so this is outside in

the in the ceremony space again and they

had this table with framed photos of important

family members Okay,

in this case I was seeing if I

could use the reflective surface to Layer in

more of them from where I was shooting

into the same composition You know, I'm getting

nothing awesome here But that's okay It is

what it is.

Now.

They're all just sitting around a round table

shooting the shit and So I'm just gonna

do whatever I can to tell that story

high low close far.

Oh There's those hands up again now

I find it's a better strategy to keep

shooting and Working through all of this nothingness

this boringness than to just sit back and

wait for the interesting stuff because that way

once We get into that interesting stuff.

They're already just desensitized to me moving around

doing my thing with the camera High low

close far details with context Okay, so

now I'm trying to go low, right?

This is a little bit ridiculous But I

felt like you know what let's just try

it and of course people are gonna notice

it and that's okay Right.

They're gonna laugh But it gets it out

of their system, right?

So now of course, I'm in the worst

place I could possibly be for when this

happens, right?

so, you know you try to stack the

cards in your deck, but Sometimes you gamble

wrong and that's what happened here.

So as soon as I hear this, I'm

like, oh crap.

I'm in the wrong deck Totally worst place

I could possibly be and so now I'm

trying to move my way out of here

and go get these moments Jesus Okay All

right.

So now will is in front of the

mirror because now he's actually getting dressed, right?

And so I've got my flash up there.

I'm gonna start Trying to document this.

Oh, I gotta fix my flash.

It's all wrong Okay, now you see doing

this though having just done what I just

did before as ridiculous as it was they

don't even notice this It's I've already done

something more ridiculous.

So so they don't care.

They just do their thing and let me

do mine Okay, and I'm just you know

Fine-tuning that angle of that flash to

try to get it right because I know

that now things are starting to happen in

front of The mirror, right?

So now I can off-camera light Okay

getting linked in there Okay using the mirror

I've got the wrong lens.

I want the other lens on my other

camera Probably switching from the 35 to the

28 here, I think Okay We're back.

We're linked to the flash Okay, oh just

tweak that flash setting Okay, I can take

me out and post if I need Okay

Okay trying to find an interesting angle Okay,

and I'm realizing though I can't really use

the From this angle.

I can't see his reflection in the mirror.

And so I brought in this little mirror

positioned where it is Just looking through the

viewfinder.

I could see that it allowed me to

reflect his reflection from the mirror in that

little reflection So but really it just came

from experimenting and trying it out and realizing

oh, okay No that now I can get

a more interesting composition, right?

The angle of the off-camera flash was

working well from that that low angle as

well Okay,

so I'm sensing that.

Okay, we're starting to transition into actually moving

towards the ceremony.

So things are starting to happen fast That's

typical with the guys, right?

everything happens all at once at the last

minute and They're usually scrambling and so now

I'm just trying to roll with what's happening

layer in the stories as best I can

fill the frame Oh little guys in here

now I'm gonna try to get down there

for those stories Okay,

and I'm also thinking like in the back

of my head.

Am I ready to move?

Am I ready to roll with them into

the ceremony?

It's my bag packed ready to go and

here we go time for the ceremony
