I'm going to throw a shadow here and

I don't actually have a plan yet but

I have got a blank white wall.

We just moved into this house in December,

we haven't filled all our walls yet so

I thought this would be a nice sort

of blank canvas on which to demonstrate throwing

shadows.

I'm going to try a few with the

modeling light and I'm going to try a

few with the flash and we're going to

experiment and see what we get.

Okay so come on in Jenny and Jesse

and I did cheat a little bit here.

I've got a few little books because I'm

going to have Jenny and Jesse standing back

to back I think and I just wanted

to even their heights a little bit.

So you guys, Jenny you stand on the

books right and then that ish and you

guys can hold hands there but before I

actually get them to pose or be fun

and energetic, not that you guys can't have

fun right now, I'm just going to figure

out exactly what I'm going to do.

So I've got my original plan was to

flash both of them so so flash Jenny

with this light so her shadow was going

over there you can see I'm not sure

can you see with the camera the the

cat the shadow that's cast of her profile

on the wall and then I was going

to have another flash can you be my

light stand lining I'm doing the same with

Jesse I'm really loving the light on Jenny

sorry the shadow of Jenny because you can

even see like the shadow of her eyelashes

which is really cool.

The great thing about the modeling light is

that you can turn your flash on and

you can actually see exactly what where the

shadow is going to be cast on the

wall so I can make little micro adjustments

right now and I think I like it

right about there and Lani can you turn

on the modeling light on that flash perfect

yeah and you can actually because because you're

a bit further away I might have you

turn yours up I can put it on

proportional go there we go

oh yeah I'm liking this so we got

great profile of Jenny over here with the

shadow and we've got great profile of Jesse

over here with the shadow so I'm going

to actually I'm not even going to turn

the flash on right now I'm just going

to do a natural light shot here and

we'll try it with the flash as well

let me know how that shadows because I

can't see it turn my flash off right

now it's perfect where you are okay there

we go okay actually I feel like I'm

um can you guys all shuffle this way

a little bit just so I don't have

to step out onto this ledge just by

like a foot that's good perfect thank you

if I move my flashes there's separation between

her head and her shadow between um what

do you mean between her head and her

shadow well when you hold this light out

you see how there's there's well the back

of her head yeah yeah yeah I can

see the back of her head okay if

you just just move it a little bit

I want to see uh you might be

able to get more of it um let's

get your chin up a little bit let's

see yeah and then lean lean sort of

back into uh and a little bit that

way just so I can get your eyelash

so so lean yeah and then lean your

head back and then you lean your head

back to Jesse all right okay yeah so

just a little bit outline because you're blocking

her shadow a little bit perfect okay I'm

just taking a test shot here let's see

here that's really really neat actually um I'm

loving this mine went off there we go

and you guys uh don't look at Erica's

camera don't look at me sort of just

just kind of having a moment there you

can laugh you can laugh sort of with

your your eyes up and sort of diagonal

corners of the room there like laughing smiles

I'm gonna try it with the flash so

keep the modeling light on so I'm gonna

turn the flash on okay so and I'm

just yes eyelash I'm not sure of my

settings yet oh way too bright obviously because

I've gone right from natural light I'm gonna

go up to shutter speed 200 I'm gonna

make turn the flashes I'm gonna turn this

down to 3.7 what are you at

uh you want me to go the same

I'm at 5.0 so okay we'll give

that a shot okay this I'm

not getting her shadow anymore but I'm getting

really good shadow on him I think I

have to turn this back up so I'm

at 5.0 yeah still

not so why is it that his shadow

is stronger than hers well I would assume

that because that one needs to be turned

up more yeah but they are they're both

the same ambient let's try but I think

it was blown out see this is what

it's like we are problem solving as we

go let me try still

I think some of your flash might be

washing out the wall there oh okay well

let me just flag it a bit let

me see if that helps oh yeah yeah

that that helps big time I'm gonna turn

that down a bit okay sorry one more

well not one more we all know it's

not one more okay okay yeah that now

we're getting somewhere okay so now I want

you to kind of lean your heads together

like you're sort of like yeah just like

that yeah perfect and then one where I

can see your eyelash so turning a little

bit this way Jenny oh and maybe tuck

your hair behind your shoulder this one yeah

yeah that's yeah perfect and a little bit

more there yeah and lean into her there

Jesse yeah you're perfect right now okay I'm

going to try one more thing where you

look up a little higher um yeah perfect

right there yeah problem is I can see

the shadow up here and how about that

oh yeah that's better yeah perfect let's just

see here okay that's really interesting I'm going

to just try one more thing just for

tricks and giggles really um I'm going to

put a pink gel on one and a

blue gel on the other yeah let's just

try it I'm not sure what it'll look

like on the skin tones but we'll try

it for fun here okay oh yeah that's

kind of cool actually okay can you can

you not make it so there's no line

there yeah yeah there we go okay Jenny

look a bit more towards me but not

at me a little bit more there we

go and lean your heads together okay all

right well we'll see what we can do

with that it was fun that's the one

with the gels it's kind of trippy
