So what I'm going to demonstrate here is

an indoor natural light silhouette with a bit

of a shoot-through.

Okay, so what I've got is a big

obvious highlight in the room.

The sheer curtains are great because it obscures

all the distractions outside.

So now I've just got this big natural

highlight in the room.

And so what I'm gonna do is, I

mean, one of the obvious things I can

do is I can silhouette my subjects in

front of it.

But that's a little bit bland and boring

in this room.

So I thought, is there something that I

can maybe shoot through to frame them within

and bring in some interest to the silhouette?

So I've actually found some plants and arranged

them a little bit and I'm gonna shoot

through them.

So we're gonna bring Saatchi and Florin into

position right in front of the window for

me, just penguin pose facing each other.

You go right there.

Okay, and the penguin pose like that.

Okay, and then I'm gonna go get set

up in position and we'll finesse the pose

once I'm there.

All right, so if I come back here.

All right, I've got my couple silhouetted in

front of the bright spot and I found

a use for these god-awful centerpieces.

I've positioned them here so now I can

make a much more interesting silhouette.

Okay, so I'm gonna shoot through them and

I'm basically just gonna expose for the highlights.

My couple's gonna fall into a silhouetted form

and I'm gonna try to include these foreground

ferns for interest.

And it's gonna take a little bit of

moving around to find a nice spot to

include them.

And this 85 millimeter focal length seems to

work for this distance here, to fill the

frame with the silhouette.

And it's tricky as is.

All right, so give me side profiles face

to face.

Okay, and what I'm realizing is if I'm

at wide apertures, it's just a blurry blobby

mess.

But if I crank my aperture up to

f16, now everything's kind of in focus and

it's much more interesting.

So I'm just trying to frame them between

the leaves.

Okay, almost touching noses guys.

Yeah, just a little more separation.

Perfect.

Okay, hold there.

Okay, that's good.

Stay there guys.
