Storm Eye

Episode 23

Sister.

I told you before. There are rules that need to be followed in the company.

Why do you still not know how to knock?

It won't happen again.

Sister, I saw this silk scarf on the internet.

It fits you very well. It's your favorite brand.

I almost wasn't able to get it at discount. Come, try it on.

No matter how much you fawn upon me, you either steal or rob.

Quickly say what you want.

Just try it on first.

It looks pretty good.

I like it. I like everything you buy.

Sister,

I hope Cheng Lei can be in charge of the final accounting of the company's current project.

But I heard that

Pang Yishan talked with Professor Zou to let Yu Haoran be in charge.

Can you think of something to help Cheng Lei?

What do you want to do?

This matter is directly related to

the final decision on selecting Professor Zou's assistant.

I hope that Cheng Lei can take this position.

Why do you care so much about Cheng Lei recently?

Friends... friends have to help one another.

Besides, he helped me

a lot at the company, took care of me.

When you first entered the company I told you.

Do your own job, don't get involved in other people's business.

But this thing is different.

Cheng Lei is kind to us.

How?

Did you know when he got hit by Yang Xun?

I think I heard Ma Shang bring it up once.

Then did you know he was beaten for you?

Yang Xun wanted to come to trouble you.

Cheng Lei and I stopped him.

Think about if Yang Xun caught you that day.

Sister, you don't know what would have happened.

There's really such a thing?

So based on this, shouldn't we help him?

I'll try my best.

I also don't want Pang Yishan's faction to bring me down.

But they aren't that easy to take care of.

Hurry up and go back. Don't let them see you, or they will say bad things about you.

I'll carefully think about what to do.

Got it. I'll go now.

President Lin.

Before the meeting officially starts, I have a suggestion to bring up.

Ok.

The new products are coming soon.

The next most important work is to put them into production.

During this phase, I think

we need a professional and technical person who's good at communication

to connect with the factory.

We always have to have people watching for flaws.

I thought about it. This work isn't easy.

I think Yu Haoran should be the only one who can do it.

Director Miao's meaning is to leave the data accounting, an important job,

to give it to Cheng Lei?

This work shouldn't be given to two groups to work on.

I don't think this way.

Cheng Lei's group has a lot of new co-workers.

Such important work should be given to a more mature group like Yu Haoran's.

Contrary to you,

I think we can give it to Cheng Lei to work on.

Professor Zou, we considered this problem too. Right?

Everyone knows professional abilities of Cheng Lei and Yu Haoran.

But in terms of dealing with interpersonal relationships,

Cheng Lei might not be the best.

This job is indispensable for both.

I have no disrespect for Engineer Cheng,

but... I don't think he can do this project well.

I don't see it this way. I think that...

All right, all right, all right.

This problem will be discussed later. Now onto today's agenda.

Someone anonymously reported that

the relationship between Cheng Lei and Miao Lu is very close.

President Lin, this...

Miao Fei, this situation is small.

Their relationship is their private matter.

I really don't care.

But you.

I watched you walk every step to where you are today.

Now since it's just us, I'll say whatever I have to say.

Your today's argument with President Pang.

Do you want to use this relationship to bring Cheng Lei up?

I don't.

President Pang...

He does have some improper behavior at work.

But this situation,

why do you have to do what he normally does?

Why have you become like this?

The company's project is at its most critical point.

Everyone should work together for the sake of the project.

Work together to bring the project up.

But you guys are like this now.

You're always arguing. The worst result

is that Yu Haoran and Cheng Lei

will get transferred to different groups, and no one will be responsible for the final accounting phase!

Is this the conclusion you want to see?

You are the daughter of Lao Miao.

You are my most optimistic person.

You're still young. I hope you can look into the future.

Now you know what you should do

and what you shouldn't do, right?

You won't live up to your father's expectations.

I understand now.

Actually,

there's really no need to argue about this matter.

There is no difference in whether Yu Haoran or Cheng Lei

leads this project. Their work abilities are generally comparable.

But this kind of work isn't based on ability.

Don't always think about who's doing the work.

Don't divide the company artificially.

But President Lin.

If all those people that are brought up are President Pang's people...

Then what can we do?

They still have to work in the company's organizational structure.

As long as his team has combat effectiveness

and can make money for the company, this isn't a problem in my eyes.

Don't you worry about the tail not falling off?

I know.

You're worried that he will go out and stand on his own.

How can you be sure that the people next to him will follow him?

Ok, even if he takes everyone away

and makes his own company to compete against Dinghua,

then so what if this happens?

I will still smile at him!

Even if we sign the contract

and both companies earn money, this is a win-win situation.

I understand now.

Miao Fei, you should understand what a business woman

should be like?

What they should and shouldn't care about.

Do you understand?

Teamwork is the foundation of modern society.

Not fighting.

Everything you've said is truly tremendously helpful to me.

I now know what I should do, don't worry.

Go get busy then.

How is it?

The project's end phase is still assigned to Yu Haoran.

How about you? Any news?

None for now.

Okay.

Zixuan, it's too late tonight. I'll be staying here.

I waited all this time and that's the result?

Why didn't you just make a phone call?

I just wanted to see you...

you two?

Going to sleep.

Who said that I would take you in?

Du Meng, we can leave then.

Sister Jing,

I'm not sleepy yet.

I want to stay to help He Zixuan analyze the videos

and see if we can find some useful clues.

Let's do it together then.

No need. I can stay by myself.

You really don't need me?

Really not.

Really?

Give us guys some room for privacy, okay?

Be careful on the way back.

Are you really staying here to help me check the videos?

What are you doing?

Even if there is a romantic conflict,

gentlemen only use their mouths (to argue) but not their hands (to fight).

If you fight, you lose!

How is it?

Are there any clues following our direction?

Yes, but not many, although I think it's still quite important.

You're good.

You've found clues in just a few days? Awesome.

Enough, don't flatter me.

Didn't we talk about investigating that drunk driver Fan Dewei

whose daughter got treatment for her leukemia?

After Fan Dewei was imprisoned for over half a year, a charitable organization

did the marrow transplant procedure for his daughter without charge. She also fortunately survived.

Even though only 23 children received aid at that time,

this matter still looks most suspicious.

Your instinct is correct.

I've checked the background of this charitable organization.

Tell me more.

Have you heard of Hermes?

That thief in ancient Greece? (T/N Hermes steals Apollo's cattle)

Who said that? The Hermes Group.

That intenational enterprise?

You mean that the charitable organization has Hermes in its background?

It is naturally not that simple.

The charitable organization was funded by a very inconspicuous small company under Hermes.

Rather than calling it a company, it's more accurate to call it a workshop.

There are many small companies like this in Northern Europe. They have been family-run for generations.

They have good business, but they also don't have much ambition to expand.

I understand this.

But the question is, when did Hermes acquire it?

This is the crucial point.

The city bureau investigated the case for about a year at that time.

But it's only two years later that

Hermes acquired this company by paying a much higher price than its estimated market value.

That investigation back then never got to this layer.

I understand now.

The negotiation for acquisition can be short or long.

They could have agreed on the acquisition's conditions,

and then dragged it out for three to five years.

Therefore, you are suspecting that Hermes already controlled this company a long time ago.

It's after several years that it formally bought the company.

That's right.

Think about it, what does Hermes do?

Heavy industry, production of energy resources.

Sister Jing's father was investigating a case of ore smuggling at that time.

That small company's owner is already over 70 years old.

Every year he gives 20% of his revenue to help this charitable organization.

He is a good person, and the charitable organization is doing charity work.

But behind the scenes, Hermes Group...

Uses good people to do bad things.

Hello, President He, how are you?

Who is it?

I am Yang Xun. We met last time.

Do you remember?

Of course I remember.

You sound more sober today.

Yes, yes.

I lost my manners last time, so I would like to apologize to you in person.

Do you have time today? Can we meet?

No need for apology, I happen to want to get a drink too.

Great! How about the pub where we met last time?

Good, I'll be there in a little while.

Okay, we'll meet at the same place then.

Bye-bye.

Qiao, everything went well?

I've got new updates on the minerals.

I found a new middleman,

but we still need more time.

That's very good.

Proceed at your own pace.

What are you gonna do with the other thing?

Or are your men planning to change the data?

Qiao, that was your plan.

You should know better than anyone else.

For now, just stay put

until Dinghua makes its next move.

Okay, keep me posted.

President He, you're here.

Sorry for the wait.

I just got here not long ago. Sit.

Get me one just like his.

The same.

President He, do you come here often?

Yang Xun.

Did you call me for a reason? If you do, you can tell me candidly.

Yes, I did.

I'm sure you know about my current situation.

I owe my company two million yuan. Can you help me?

How can I help you?

I'll write you a promissory note.

As soon as I get money, I'll repay you immediately.

Why should I loan you such a large sum of money?

Our relationship is only based on drinking together once.

Right, that's right.

Forget it.

Since you are asking me, it means you are desperate.

I'll help you.

Let's go. Come with me to get some air.

Yes.

Keep the change.

Do you play cards?

- Which kind? - Any of them.

I know a few.

I can only help you this much. The rest

is up to you.

Nanxi, long time no see.

Long time no see, President He.

This is my friend, Boss Yang.

- Hello, Boss Yang. - Hello, hello!

This is his first time here. Take good care of him.

You can rest assured.

Go on. Good luck.

Are you coming, President He?

I still have to meet a friend.

I'll come back for you about half an hour later.

We'll go inside then, please.

Okay, after you.

I'll wait for you then.

You...

Are you upset with me, or upset with yourself?

Neither.

I'm just... Didn't I promise to help you?

I messed up.

It's nothing, really.

I've thought it through. Whatever the higher-ups decide, I'll accept it.

I'll just do my job. That's good enough.

I'm fated to be a working person anyway.

I can't fight, and I don't want to fight.

But President Lin even scolded my sister over this matter.

Why can Pang Yishan do anything that he wants?

Clearly, President Lin sees my sister as easy to take advantage of.

Here you are sitting in the company's open space,

and you are harshly criticizing your superiors.

Your emotional IQ is a lot lower than I thought.

You saying my emotional IQ is low?

Forget it. Say what you want.

Anyway, I'm the one that messed this up.

I'm also responsible for your depressed mood.

I'll treat you to lunch.

- Eat what? - You decide.

Western style.

Okay, we can go to your sister's friend Zhou Lian's restaurant.

I don't want to go to Zhou Lian's place.

Why?

I don't know. I just always felt that Zhou Lian was a foxy vamp!

You should be broad-minded and have a tolerant heart.

What do they mean by a tolerant heart? That's because you didn't see her!

Dahlini's Sunrise - Western-Style Restaurant

Is it sealed? Sealed by Shuangqing City's Bureau of Public Safety]/i>

- What's going on? - They closed?

I haven't heard anything happened to Zhou Lian.

Let's change to another place nearby to eat then.

- I know a good Japanese restaurant. Let's go there. - Okay.

Can we make it in time?

Yes, we can. It's really close.

You're here.

You don't have a meeting?

The meeting is over. Not much to talk about, whatever needs to be synced up is synced up already.

Why did you make me come all this way here then?

Why didn't you tell me earlier?

Didn't you say you wanted to see me every day?

That's true. Now that I've seen you,

- my trip isn't wasted. - Give me a break.

You were clearly waiting for Du Meng yesterday.

What did you talk about?

Nothing much.

Let's talk in the car.

Are you trying to play dead to get through this whole trip?

Were you guys talking about my dad's case?

Any progress?

Du Meng and I are following a lead.

No progress yet.

What lead?

Didn't we agree?

Du Meng and I are investigating this case. You should stay away.

Once we make good progress, I'll notify you immediately.

I can't even ask? Are you afraid that I can't concentrate?

Of course.

This kind of uncertain lead can really exhaust your energy.

Besides, in your dad's case,

can you guarantee total impartiality?

If I don't tell you, it's because I don't want your mood to affect my judgment.

Okay, I won't ask then,

but you must promise me.

If there is any progress, you must tell me immediately.

I guarantee it.

Any activity in Dinghua?

Pang Yishan is at present clearly

wanting Yu Haoran to get the position of Special Assistant to Professor Zou.

I've also asked Cheng Lei.

He has already given up.

Any threat to Yu Haoran from the others

can basically be ignored.

Have you ever suspected Pang Yishan?

Yes.

But Pang Yishan has been the same over the past ten years.

He has already treated power like a meat bun that he won't let go of!

He's done too many of these things where he helped promote his own people.

But he is consistent from before to now, so I can't find any loopholes.

I have some progress on my side of the investigation.

On the day that Zhou Lian died, near the location of the incident,

there is a parking lot.

A car was missing, and that car hasn't been found yet.

This is a good lead.

Have I ever been not good?

You are naturally the best.

Is there any more news?

None for now.

♫ Actually, I was most afraid you’d want to run away ♫

♫ Afraid you’d resent me, scream and shout ♫

Do you remember this song?

Remember?

We sang this when we went to KTV at college. (Karaoke bar)

We relied on this song to announce our dating. Have you forgotten?

♫ Yielding a little in your usual customs when at my side to my hints ♫

♫ A little used to letting you unburden yourself of pretense, gently holding and leaning on me ♫

♫ Little by little, growing closer to you ♫

♫ Taking hold of your heart, becoming more passionate ♫

Boss Yang, this is only 100 or so in cash.

You can't pay it?

Just wait a little longer, okay?

President He should be here soon.

You want President He to come here for such a trivial matter?

It will hurt your dignity.

Y-You don't have problems here, do you?

Boss Yang, if you have to say this, then don't blame me.

Who has upset our Nanxi?

- President He is here. - Sit down!

O-Okay.

What's wrong?

President He, your friend says our place isn't clean.

Misunderstanding, a misunderstanding. You misheard me!

Please sit.

You two can step away.

You called me here in such a hurry.

What's going on?

It's like this. Boss Yang is a bit unlucky today.

He borrowed about 100 here, but still couldn't reverse the loss.

How is this related to me?

President He, I am...

I know.

Didn't you put all your money in a new project?

So you don't have the liquid cash now, right?

This is a small matter. Just tell Nanxi directly.

How about this then? Consider it a favor to me,

give him two extra days to move money around.

Naturally we can do that, out of respect for you.

However, according to rules, we must charge interest.

Just deduct the interest from my account.

Any other questions?

No more questions.

Okay Nanxi, you can go take care of your business.

Okay.

Boss Yang, a week should be enough, right?

According to rules, the longest time is a week.

It's enough, it's enough.

President He, I really think this place has problems.

Really, President He!

President He!

What were you thinking?

If you are unlucky, just come another day. You lost it all, and even borrowed from them?

They said that luck would change sides, and it would land on me in the next round.

So you believed them?

My desire was too great.

- I... Can you please— - No.

Listen, Yang Xun. You've really disappointed me.

I won't keep paying for your interest.

The interest is charged by the day here.

President He!

Don't you want to do business with Dinghua?

I can help you!

I can really help you!

I don't think you are trustworthy.

Section Chief An, all the fingerprints that can be found inside and out are already picked up.

But the fingerprints on the steering wheel were deliberately cleaned off.

We've collected eight hair samples

and will send them back to the bureau to be examined right away.

How soon will the results come out?

It'll be in the afternoon at the earliest.

- You've worked hard. Do it as quickly as possible then. - Okay.

We've looked all around once. The rain at that time destroyed all the traces.

Let's call it off. We'll go back and wait for the results of the test.

Let's pack up and go!

What are the test results?

All the fingerprints belong to the car owner and his family,

but there is one hair sample that doesn't belong to them.

The car owner says usually he drives the car himself or lets his family use it.

He also hasn't driven it much lately.

We have compared this hair sample's DNA characteristics,

but we couldn't find any matched result from our data warehouse.

If this hair sample was really left by the killer,

at least it's telling us that he hasn't committed any criminal activity domestically.

Additionally, we gathered the surveillance videos

from the cars nearby this stolen car.

One car filmed the backside of the suspect,

but he was very careful, and only put away the umbrella after he got inside the car.

Also, the car's window was covered with anti-UV film, so we couldn't see what was happening inside.

This guy could get in and out of the crime scene

while perfectly concealing his identity,

he must have received professional training.

There indeed was intel that mentioned an active criminal

with the codename "Bat," and he is Asian.

Bat? B-A-T?

Ma Shang mentioned it before.

But he rarely makes his moves in East Asia.

There is no evidence that he came to China.

Let's do this. I'll send the report of test results to Director Qin.

He should have more resources there to do matching.

I'll ask him if he has more detailed information about Bat.

Sister, are you free now?

You've finally remembered to knock on the door.

What were you thinking? So deep in thought.

It's about work. What's up?

I came here to arrange in advance. Let's eat dinner together, okay?

Your treat!

You're finally not busy, right?

I know.

I think our team is about to be laid off.

It's not so bad, Lu Lu.

Work more, complain less.

I know.

Director Miao, to console me, how about treating me to Western food tonight?

Which restaurant?

Oh yes, speaking of which...

Sister, why is Zhou Lian's restaurant closed?

I don't know either. I haven't been able to get in touch with her lately.

Why? You've been the best of friends for many years.

She wouldn't tell you where she's gone?

Could something bad have happened?

Maybe she is in a bad mood and left to get some air?

Or maybe she is feeling unwell

and wants to rest? Let's not talk about her.

I was just about to ask you.

I heard that you've been close with Cheng Lei lately.

Are you dating?

No... Who did you hear this from?

Someone gossiped all the way to President Lin.

But it's okay, President Lin doesn't care about these things.

It's probably that Yu Haoran who did it!

If that's the case, I'll definitely date Cheng Lei!

So what, I'll date him even if I have to chase him.

Let's see what they can do to me!

This is today's verification assignment.

Be extra careful. It must be finished no matter how late you work.

Let's start.

You have a lot of assignments? Working overtime?

It's assigned by the chief, it must be finished no matter what.

I-I've finished my work. I can help, so you can move faster.

This isn't good, is it?

This is a small matter, a few of us can get it done.

Besides, our two teams have different work styles.

What if something happens again, won't we disappoint

the chief's trust in me? Isn't that right?

Thanks.

Engineer Cheng, you really should learn from Engineer Yu.

Look at how good the relationship is between Engineer Yu and the chief.

Don't talk anymore.

You...What do you mean by that?

Nothing. Don't misunderstand. Go.

Don't bother their work, let's go.

I'm so envious.

Using romance to get through the time when there's nothing to do.

It's most appropriate!

Forget about him.

Co-workers, work hard!

I'll pay for tonight's dinner and a late-night snack.

Great! Thank you, Engineer Yu!

Look at this.

Gentlemen, the dishes are all here. Please enjoy!

- Thanks. - I'm a junior, but you are pouring wine for me?

You're too couteous, Brother Yong.

We became brothers as soon as we met.

What's this talk about senior and junior?

Okay, then I'll toast you with this drink.

I hope that Brother Yong's Yushan Ore mine will last 10,000 years.

10,000 years to mine it?

If there is so much in reserve, how could my DS ore still be precious?

That's true too. That's true!

I'll toast you.

Oh yes, Xiao Yang.

- Let me ask you about something. - Go ahead.

I remember that you studied overseas?

Yes, in England.

What is it, Brother Yong, do you have anyone in your family who is going abroad to study?

- My daughter. - Oh, your daughter.

She is about to graduate from high school.

So I've been thinking about

sending her abroad to study.

She can be independent in the future, but I don't expect her to have any great achievements.

So I need to ask you for a favor to find out more.

- Of course. - Come, come.

- Here, let's eat. - Yes, yes.

Actually, it's not so difficult now to go abroad to study.

It's not a big problem.

I happen to know people in this field.

I can definitely help you, Brother Yong.

Excellent, excellent.

Pour me some more.

However,

there are some fees.

No problem, no problem.

I will definitely not accept even a penny from you.

Why do you say this? Have a drink.

I just have to clearly say it.

- However, you must hurry, it's almost time to start the semester. - That's right.

You must not delay.

- I'll hurry and do something for you. - Okay.

Okay, I'll toast you with this drink, Brother Yong.

Okay.

Uncle Wang

Uncle Wang?

An Jing? Are you off from work?

I'm still doing something. What is it?

Your mom's mood got bad again today.

Can you come back right away?

What's happened?

Today... It was my fault.

Let's talk about it when you're back.

Okay, I'll come home right away.

Hello.

Department Chief Song, I need to ask for leave from the meeting today.

I have a special situation at home. I'm really sorry.

Alright, hurry and go take a look.

Uncle Wang.

Today, I said something wrong.

It was about your father.

Don't panic yet.

Invalid code.

Mom, open the door!

Mom, it's me, An An.

I'm back. Open the door!

Should we get a locksmith?

Mom!

Why is he still here?

Tell him to leave!

How about you go ahead and leave?

Okay. It was all my fault today.

Help me coax your mom, okay?

I'm leaving then.

Mom, he's left. Can you open the door now?

Lao Wang doesn't believe me.

He had to say that I'm scaring myself!

What did you tell him?

I told him that your dad's accident couldn't have been an accident.

Why doesn't he believe me?

He is just a doctor! How can he judge this?

Mom, you should control your mood.

An An, you don't need to worry about me.

I haven't lost my self-control!

I just don't understand why no one believes me!

Look at yourself. As soon as you entered the door, I could tell by looking at your gaze.

You must think that I'm sick again!

I don't think that.

Mom, let me tell you. It's all Lao Wang's fault.

He is an outsider. How does he get to judge our family affair?

Besides, you haven't made him official yet, have you?

Forget it. I am at fault for being too agitated just now.

Actually, what upsets me the most is when he sees I'm not talking,

he worries that I'm sick again.

He kept telling me to "calm down, calm down"!

Am I that fragile?

Why are you laughing?

You...really are quite scary when you are upset.

- You... - Okay, don't get upset, don't get upset.

Don't get upset, don't get upset.
