TO URBAN STELLA

Barbro?

Yeah, it's early. I'll pick you up in fifteen minutes.

It's Peter.

I've known Peter and his brother a long time, you know.

I lived upstairs. But things started to get worse.

It was so nice having a policeman in the building.

We had a break-in in the attic.

They caused such a mess without really stealing anything.

Some old linens and stuff.

A suitcase full of junk, but the police don't care anymore.

Oh, I forgot the milk.

So, Urban still lived here when he met Stella?

Yes. But he kept the apartment as some kind of...

Well, a resting place for his unit between shifts.

Here...

Here is where he died.

How come you never believed it was suicide?

Well... the angle, for one thing.

He was shot behind the ear, out through the left temple.

-So at an angle, from behind? -Yes.

It's not an impossible angle to shoot yourself from - but awkward.

Who found him? Was it you?

No, it wasn't. It was...

It was Ante.

THE TRUTH WILL OUT

INSPIRED BY ACTUAL EVENTS

EPISODE 5

Simon! Breakfast!

Am I totally out of my mind?

Oh. No, you did the right thing.

I'll sort it out. Will you be gone long today?

What? Yeah, probably. I have interrogations scheduled all day.

Okay.

-Hi. -Hi.

Ante, we need to talk to you.

Sure, what about?

We have some questions. Are you coming?

What's this about?

We want you to come with us to the police station.

-What is this? -Just get in the car!

What's going on?

Mom?

Mom?

Hello? Open up!

Where are you going?

I don't know. Just away from here.

Where are you going?

Come on.

Whose idea was it to blackmail the johns, yours or Conny's?

Huh? And Nicole...

How did she die?

Damn it, Ante, we have you on tape. Tell us.

Yes, Simon's coming. I left a note in his backpack.

Are you sure? Yes, thank you. And thanks for calling.

Bye.

You beat her. First with your fists, but that wasn't enough.

You picked up a weapon... and kept going.

What did you beat her with? Huh?

Did she pass out?

Or was she conscious when you strangled her?

And Urban...

Did he catch you at it?

Well?

Ante, what happened?

Goddamn it, Ante!

Out with it!

Peter...

You explain right now.

We think that... or we suspect that Ante may have been involved in...

Involved in what?

In extortion. Or maybe something worse.

What are you talking about?

Why aren't you saying anything?

You're... you're bleeding.

Peter?

Peter!

-The attic storage! -What about it?

-You said you had a break-in. -That's right.

-When? -Ages ago.

-And they stole a suitcase? -Yes.

Yes, a suitcase like that... Where did you find that?

Peter?

I...

Peter!

Who does that? Beats someone with a watch?

Dad.

Our dad did.

To the woods a little bird flew

From the summer sky

He sang,

"It's already evening, it's time to go!"

I'm flying away, you dear, dear soul

Far away

Far away

But with you soon

I'll come to stay

Far away

Far away

But with you soon

I'll come to stay

Why are you at the treatment center? Where are your parents?

They couldn't handle me.

What do you mean?

They have two new kids, won't even answer the phone.

Okay... But can't you go to another treatment center?

That's not up to me.

They must know that girl bullies you. You have a fucking black eye!

"Self-harming behavior."

They don't believe a word I say.

There's one thing I've learned, though.

Everyone's a cunt deep down.

Some just hide it better than others.

Urban Wendel murdered Nicole.

I want you to tell me everything.

If you've never worked

close to prostitution and human trafficking,

it's hard to understand.

What these girls actually go through.

The johns only risked getting fined, but we saw the real consequences.

-So, what did you do about it? -Good question...

It wasn't even our idea. It was one of the girls.

We taped one of the worst johns in Urban's apartment

and then put the squeeze on him.

It was easy.

We never saw him again.

We split the money.

The plan was to stop then and there, but...

it had triggered something in Urban.

He had a...

a darkness.

Peter knows that deep down as well.

He could get really scary.

Scary how?

He'd become aggressive...

Extremely violent.

But you carried on regardless?

Urban and Conny found other girls and kept more of the money.

Then when we caught Ludde...

it was like Christmas Day. Urban hated Ludde since way back.

I didn't want to, but that didn't matter.

And none of us had a clue...

-A clue about what? -About Ludde.

About what he was like. Young girls... Torture...

-And Urban and Nicole, what happened? -I don't know.

-Of course I knew on some level... -Knew what, Ante?

That Urban murdered Nicole.

So, Urban murdered Nicole.

But who the hell murdered Conny?

If Jorma shot you... and you were dying...

But right before you die, you call me.

Wouldn't you say that Jorma did it?

Yes. I'd say his name.

Peter was right, Stella...

It was a police...

Hang on... Right before the car stops.

It was a police...

That's not all he says.

The word "police." There's a... vowel.

It was a police...

It was a police...

-"A". "Police a..." -"Police a..."

Assistant.

-Which year should I look at? -Urban died in 2012.

What now?

You're suspended for the duration of the investigation.

And charges?

Not the way things look right now.

You know how it works. The films were made in 2005.

The pandering and extortion have passed the statute of limitations.

So I'm free to go?

-Anyone? -No.

Let's try 2010, then.

Go back...

Barbro?

Yes?

Look.

Jenny?

She was a police officer?

She said she'd been a prostitute.

She never said that. Only that she worked on Malmskillnadsgatan.

And she did, as a rookie officer.

On Urban's task force.

When she gets off work, if she picks her kid up from school, anything.

Okay, thanks. Bye.

Jenny's father had a hunting rifle of the same caliber that killed Conny.

He died in March of last year. No rifle was ever handed in.

Jenny Eklund.

I don't know much. She was a cadet and Urban was her supervisor.

But she quit.

Why?

A guy in her unit came to us at IA and said something had happened.

It wasn't exactly clear what it was,

but it was something between her and Urban.

She quit right away, but she refused to talk to us, so we had to drop it.

To be honest, I wasn't sure she was right for the job.

The psychologist wanted to cut her after her first evaluation.

No!

You stay here.

Jorma and Caijsa have picked up the son from school.

-Social Services is there, too. -Oh, good.

RAPE

-The piece of the puzzle I never had. -What?

Conny's investigation into Urban.

Jenny took it from his apartment.

Isn't that...?

-Isn't that your mom's car? -Yep.

Peter...

Peter!

-Hey, Peter... -Get your hands off me!

What have you told Stella? Did you tell her about Urban and...?

Shit!

I could've put an end to it long ago.

Yeah, but you know what? You didn't.

No, I didn't.

And everything went to hell.

Ante?

Ante!

Against the wall! Call it in! Call it in!

Lie down, Simon! On the floor!

No, no, no...

Bruksgatan 21. Officer down.

Get back! Move!

Get back! Get back!

We have to move him. Away from the window!

Watch out! Against the wall!

Come on, pull!

-What the hell?! -Give me my son!

Give me my son, Peter!

Here. Pressure, pressure!

Roll him over.

-Don't move. -Don't go! Don't leave me, Peter!

Don't leave me!

Bring me Simon! Give me Simon!

Stop! She's on the roof.

Give me my son!

Okay.

Jenny.

Jenny!

-I know what happened. -Where's Simon?

It wasn't Ludde who raped you. It was my brother, wasn't it?

When you shot Urban, he'd already killed a woman.

He could easily have done it again.

But what you're doing now, Jenny...

Think of your son.

Simon! Simon!

Mom!

Mom...

There now, come on...

You have to look after him now.

Peter, he's your nephew.

No, now you have to... Not yet, not yet...

There... good, that's right...

Look up. Let me see...

Hi, there.

-Hi. -Hi.

-Do you want something to drink? -No, thanks.

You sure?

Are you done? Come on.

Come here.

-Was the hot dog good? -Yeah.

-Will it be fun to see the animals? -What kind of animals are there?

-I think they have elks... -Elks?

-Ever seen one? -No...
