Storm Eye

Episode 13

Sister Jing, when we were questioning Miao Huanyang this afternoon,

he brought up that they met almost ten years ago.

Did you think of your dad's situation?

The time does overlap, but I looked at the case files.

The person that followed my dad was not Xu He. It was probably just a coincidence.

You're right.

I already gave your coworkers both phones.

I know.

My sister sent me a few messages. Some missed calls are work-related.

The phone that Xu He gave me has no notifications.

No notifications are the best news.

With luck, he still hasn't suspected you yet.

Since we have already started our collaboration,

there is something... that I have to tell you.

Okay.

It might not be good news...so please prepare yourself.

Were you aware...

Jia Changan might have had other women?

That's impossible. My relationship with Changan was very good.

What do you mean by this?

We have straightforward evidence that tells us Jia Changan and this unknown woman

went to a hotel together. It may have been more than once.

This woman has multiple fake identities.

We suspect that she is involved in the Changan Science & Technology smuggling case. At the same time...

She is very likely to have been Jia Changan's lover.

Miao Fei, please give us a detailed reply.

When you were with Jia Changan, were there any women worthy of our investigation?

Please... Please stop talking.

Sister Jing, we're done dealing with the phones.

Got it.

You're back.

I'm so hungry.

- Come, come, come. Have some delicious food. - Is this mine?

- Yes. - You still have some conscience.

It smells so good. I'm so hungry, I'm so hungry.

Sorry about today. I kept you guys busy all day.

Being able to come back and eat something, I'm already very touched.

You guys did well. Keep it up!

You guys eat. I still have two questions to ask.

First, why does Xu He want Miao Fei to steal the cryptographic key?

Shouldn't you understand this well? Now in Dinghua's R&D department, all technical files are encrypted.

With the cryptographic key, you're able to decrypt and view the file.

But there aren't any encrypted files yet. Why do they need the key?

So I predict that after Miao Fei inserted the virus,

they have already received the file.

They just need the cryptographic key to access it.

Relax. DS Materials have their own confidential system.

Then here's the problem.

All signs show that Xu He actually has another spy at Dinghua.

And it just might be the person that killed Jia Changan.

The whole company knows that they have a confidential system.

How can Xu He not know?

So you're saying that their goal is not synthetic technology?

Coercing Miao Fei brought a result that has no direct benefits.

The risks are very high. Why would Xu He want to do this?

All right, let's just put the question here for now.

If we can catch Xu He through Miao Fei, then everything will be explained.

Ma Shang, what's the other thing you wanted to say then?

I wanted to say that we should

take a covert action to protect Miao Fei.

We already figured out our plan. We just need you to carry it out.

It's like this. I've already prepared Wu Miao's resources.

All of the questionable points about him have been summarized.

Go directly to Dinghua tomorrow. Arrest him for interrogation.

Make everyone know about this. Let the public know that

national security is keeping an eye on Wu Miao, or even the R&D department.

Are you certain that Wu Miao isn't the key person then?

What will we do if he is one of Xu He's men?

We will not only not be able to protect Miao Fei, but we will also disturb Xu He by doing so.

From what I know now, I am absolutely sure.

Eat first. I'll show you the files later.

Du Meng, let's stay here tonight.

After we see the files, let's just go straight to Dinghua in the morning.

All right.

There are two bedrooms on the boat, one for each of you. Zixuan and I can sleep on the sofa.

Starting from the arrest of Miao Huanyang, our case has progressed smoothly to the next stage.

An Jing, Du Meng, it is an honor to work with you.

- Come, come, come. Cheers! - Cheers!

- Lao Liu. - Yes?

Should we go talk to her?

It's better for her to smash something to feel better. It's better than hurting herself.

What do we do? Should we postpone tomorrow's plan?

There's no need.

But... She wouldn't lose control of her emotions for no reason?

Her phone hasn't been with her the whole afternoon.

Doesn't this already show that there's a problem?

Why don't... we check the situation first?

Tomorrow's action will continue as usual.

Find a chance to contact her.

If there is anything strange, immediately let me know.

All right.

The wind is too strong. Hurry up and go back in, don't catch cold!

How did you know it was me?

He Zixuan likes fragrant things. Your shampoo's scent is too strong.

You live in his room, he can't just go in and take a bath now.

If only there were such well-equipped mobile stations in the future.

Why are you still awake?

I can't sleep. There are too many things to handle.

My mind is really cluttered.

Mine too.

You finished looking at Wu Miao's files?

Yes. Fortunately, you did a lot of preparations before.

I only have to collect data for my work.

I can't help with other work.

I'm sorry for making you guys so busy.

If we can work together next time,

we can switch.

All right.

Zixuan and I have been wondering for the past two days,

and suddenly thought of something that may be related to Xu He.

Go on.

With our resources, we still can't find anything about him.

Isn't this too abnormal?

I was thinking about this question too previously.

Even if Xu He has a foreign nationality,

it is surely not his first time entering this country.

It's really strange that there is no record at all.

Also, on the day of questioning,

I remember that Miao father and daughter mentioned the same thing,

that Xu He is a vigorous person, not an old man.

A mask?

But Miao father and daughter have seen him at a close distance.

In fact, masks with this kind of simulation are not high-tech anymore

What's really frightening is his ability to change voice and postures.

It's very complicated to really become another person.

If this is really so,

it will explain why the SkyEye system

cannot track him down.

Of course, this is just my speculation.

There isn't any proof. Don't let me mislead you.

What's the matter?

I...

I'm sure I probably never mentioned this to you before.

My dad, when he was alive,

also worked for Shuangqing City's investigation section.

Do you remember when I suddenly disappeared?

May 6th.

The day before, when my father was on a pursuit mission,

he had a car accident and died at the scene.

Later, the city department comprehensively investigated that other driver.

There was nothing suspicious.

In the end, the other person was convicted of drunken driving.

Of course, during that time I completely terminated communication with you.

My dad's incident was only part of the reason.

There was something else, but I'll tell you when I have a chance later on.

I mentioned this today only because I want to say

that in Miao Huanyang's testimony,

Xu He also disappeared around this time ten years ago.

He also never re-appeared during these ten years.

What was the case that your dad was in charge of?

Espionage, relating to ore resources.

Of course, it wasn't just this type of criminal activity.

Organized crime?

After I joined National Security, I applied to view the file from that time.

There was no evidence that it was organized crime,

but that possibility was not ruled out completely.

It's just that because of my dad's car accident back then,

his target of pursuit completely disappeared,

and this person never appeared again.

Do you think that such coincidences exist?

If Xu He is a fake identity right from the start,

can he be that person from back then?

To tell you the truth,

this probability is too low.

But whether it's Xu He or that spy from years ago,

they will not escape punishment by the law.

We will first take down Xu He, and solve this case together.

I will help you to organize the files of that year,

track down the fish that slipped away, and make him pay.

Lao Wu.

Do... Do you have to clean up after people every day?

There's nothing to do anyway right now.

If you really have nothing to do, you can come over and help me organize the data.

You are here to work on technology, not to work as a personal assistant.

Okay, then I'll dump the trash first!

- Secretary Wang. - Wu Miao, these two are investigators from National Security.

They have some questions to ask you.

Mr. Wu Miao,

our conversation is being recorded.

You have the right to know that.

Okay.

During our last questioning of Dinghua's staff,

you were absent.

Sorry, I was sick that day with the flu.

You still came to work as usual that morning,

but got the flu at noon.

Actually, I was already feeling bad that morning when I came in.

I couldn't withstand it anymore at noon, so I left.

I didn't deliberately evade your questioning.

We didn't say that either.

After this, we will ask some questions.

Please just answer them normally.

Okay.

List of Employees

Where were you when Jia Changan died?

I was right here in the office. Engineer Yu can testify for me.

Just answer the question, no need to say anything else.

What is your marital status?

I was married, got divorced a little over a year ago.

What did you work on before coming to Dinghua?

Research work in the area of applied materials.

On the day when Dinghua's network was implanted with a virus, where were you?

I was at home, on sick leave.

I didn't come to the office.

Then do you think the person who implanted the virus

could possibly be Yu Haoran?

Yu Haoran?

Impossible.

You weren't at work, how can you be so sure?

If Engineer Yu was the one who did this,

wouldn't Dinghua's loss be huge?

Why?

Because the lab's network has been physically separated,

so the loss is within a controllable range.

Engineer Yu works inside the lab, so he would know about the physical separation, right?

If he did this,

wouldn't it be a total loss?

I'm sorry, can I go back to work now?

- Before you came to Dinghua, did you work for Tianxing Technology? - Yes.

- Job? - Senior Researcher.

- What is your current job? - Research Assistant.

I... I did apply for the position of a researcher,

but I wasn't hired.

So this is what I was thinking.

Dinghua is the leader in this industry.

Instead of working in a senior position in a small company,

I'd rather learn here, and it may benefit me in the future.

Is your job going well here?

Pretty well.

Why did you leave your job before?

Why are you asking again?

This is not logical.

Please answer the question.

Didn't I tell you already? Dinghua is the leader in this industry.

It has already squeezed other similar companies

so that they have no more room to expand. Why should I stay there?

But your current salary is only

a third of what you had at Tianxing Technology?

This...

- That's private! - We found it out through public channels!

We also found that

when you left Tianxiang Technology, someone at Tianxing reported

that research funding was being misappropriated.

You don't think I did that, do you?

If I really did it, could I be sitting here and chatting with you?

We also found out that, within the past six months,

Tianxing Technology announced two new products.

These two new products, in their function and applicable usage,

are highly similar to Dinghua's yet-to-be-released product.

What do you think of this?

What do I think of it?

I don't think about it! This is caused by the overall environment.

All the other similar companies research in the same direction.

This is very normal.

Yes, I did work for Tianxing.

But there is no reason for me to sell information,

and no one has given me any benefit. Isn't that right?

That's all for today, Mr. Wu Miao, please keep your cellphone on.

Okay, got it.

Oh yes, we may come back to you to match up some information.

But don't worry, doing this is not targeting you.

President Zhang Jiangqui of Tianxing Technology...

we will also go to him to understand the whole situation.

Thank you for your cooperation today.

What did National Security ask you?

Nothing much.

They just thought it was too coincidental that day when I took sick leave.

That's it?

They also asked me about the company's network being implanted with a virus,

whether it's possible that you did it.

Isn't this crazy? How is it possible?

That's what I said.

Sister Jing, should we apply for the arrest warrant in advance?

When we get the results from Tianlin, we can go straight there to make the arrest.

- Are you so sure? - Isn't this obvious?

He answered easily and tightly on everything that was unrelated to him.

But as soon as we questioned suspicious points, he got flustered.

We still have to follow protocol.

Let's wait for Tianlin's news first.

Besides, catching Wu Miao is a crucial chess move.

We must make the move at the right time.

You want to use catching Wu Miao

to let our real opponent mistakenly think that we will relax our guard?

What's up?

Okay.

Du Meng and I are at Dinghua now. You can drive the investigation's car down here to pick us up.

Miao Fei is talking with Xu He.

Okay, you can talk.

Any progress?

The cryptographic key is inside the safe at the Research Center's Archive Room.

I can open the fingerprint lock, and I also know the password,

but there is still a problem.

What's the problem?

The cryptographic key is bound with location positioning.

It will send an alarm as soon as it's taken out of the lab.

I really don't know what to do.

Once the alarm is sent,

the dynamic password of the key will be changed,

and the original password is useless. I know about this.

What should I do then?

This is a small problem.

- I'll help you solve it. - I've done everything I can.

I really have tried my best.

I can't help you. My dad can't help you either.

We are useless to you.

Please...please give me those things.

During the lunch break, go to the supermarket where we met last time.

Wait for my instructions.

Zixuan, bring up the construction blueprint of the supermarket.

On it.

Hello, An Jing, where are you now?

I'm near Huading with the co-workers who are protecting Miao Fei.

An Jing, I suggest that you don't follow Miao Fei into that supermarket.

Why?

Last time, the mission to capture Liu Baoqiang's upstream contact

failed because someone leaked the info.

Since he could make that judgment at that time,

it's very likely he saw through your identity, and it's also possible he had seen you before.

I cannot guarantee right now whether this person and Xu He have a cooperative relationship.

Understood. I will arrange it accordingly.

Transfer Wang Zuo and Xiao Li here. No one will enter the supermarket.

Okay.

How do we track them then?

Connect all the surveillance videos in the supermarket and transfer the signals here.

Okay.

The supermarket has three egress points.

Everyone will stand by nearby, and wait in their cars.

How do we ensure Miao Fei's safety then?

A place like a supermarket has many people. Under normal circumstances,

the other side wouldn't commit assaults inside the supermarket.

On the contrary, we also have to be even more cautious and must not get exposed.

If we are exposed, the culprit could get anxious and kidnap a hostage.

- Understood. - Understood.

Don't worry. We've made arrangements

to monitor the entire process.

I'm here.

Area C.

Change the main screen to Area C's video.

Watch for anyone who approaches Miao Fei.

Understood.

I'm here. Where are you?

Walk to the right.

There's a shelf selling microwave ovens.

What do we do? It's a monitoring blind spot!

It's fine. An Jing knows what to do.

- I can't find her. - I can't see her either.

The target person is lost.

Don't worry yet. Display the two ends of this section of merchandise shelving.

Increase the surveillance sound volume. Do it now.

- Yes. - Yes.

I'm here. Where are you?

To your left, the second row,

the first black-colored microwave oven.

Open the microwave, inside is an item I've left there for you.

You are not here?

What? You really wanted to see me?

I never want to see you for the rest of my life!

If everything goes smoothly, you won't need to see me.

Wait.

I've found it. What is it?

There is a USB connector on the side.

Plug the cryptographic key into it,

then just wait for the red indicator light to turn green.

Very easy. Can you remember it?

This is a duplicator.

Young Director Miao, you are only one step away from success.

I'll be waiting for your good news.

If it still doesn't work, I'll check all the supermarket's surveillance videos for the past three days.

I just can't believe we can't find any clues!

I think it's meaningless for you to do this.

Xu He totally knows where the surveillance blind spot is.

He also couldn't have put the item there himself.

Even if we find him in the surveillance videos,

we can't locate his position now, right?

Drink some warm water.

I think we don't need to be so depressed.

To say the least, since Xu He asked Miao Fei to continue to act,

doesn't it mean our plan has succeeded?

You can say that. What about Department Chief Song?

He's already approved the mission.

I will arrange Miao Fei to pretend she is duplicating the key.

To guard against someone inside Dinghua monitoring this,

the entire process will be done as authentically as possible.

Then we'll just wait for Xu He to arrange the transaction.

Is there any news from Tianlin City's bureau?

According to the latest intel,

they have begun the investigation on Tianxing Technology's owner, Zhang Jianqui.

He is estimated not to be able to last too long.

It would be best to have results before Miao Fei and Xu He make the transaction.

Then I can arrange to make the internal arrest inside Dinghua.

This way, we can transmit a message to Xu He,

that we have targeted the wrong person.

I agree with both hands raised!

How immature!

Everyone hasn't rested for over a dozen hours. Let's hurry and get some rest.

It so happens that I arranged to meet Miao Fei tonight. I'll take care of that first.

Let's go.

Fei Fei, let's go try on the wedding gown.

Fei Fei, I'm sorry.

Sorry, I don't know what else to do. What to do? Every day that passes by...

Ah, Director Miao.

Director Miao.

We're chatting about work.

I'm leaving first then.

Okay, bye.

It's okay now. She's already left!

If she heard it, I'd be doomed!

Don't be so suspicious. Look at her now.

She is so unsettled. Why would she care about your crap?

Very Lucky Restaurant

- Hello, are you dining alone? - Yes.

Okay, please follow me this way.

Can you sit here?

Yes.

Please look at the menu first.

No need. Just give me a salad,

steak, and a vegetable soup. Also some water, thanks.

- Yes. - Oh yes.

Where is the restroom?

- Straight ahead, turn left. - Thanks.

For someone who is full of worries, she has a pretty good appetite.

She looks skinny, but she can really eat.

I think this is quite normal.

Oh yes, when is she making the move?

That depends on her.

What if she fails?

Jeffrey has agreed to my plan. His person will be assisting in secret.

Sorry, I came late.

Was there a problem?

No. I... I fell asleep.

I followed what you said, and gave the cellphone to the girl next to me.

You did great today.

He hasn't appeared yet. Could it be that he's already discovered something?

This can only show that he is very cautious.

Then what do we do next?

We have made a detailed plan.

You must remember well what I'm about to tell you.

Let me summarize for you again. In other words, that day when the research center was physically separating the network,

you did not follow the rules to erase all the files on your PC!

- Isn't that right? - You...

Lower your voice.

When the company's public network was attacked by the Trojan virus,

your PC was also connected, wasn't it?

National Security is targeting me now.

What files do you have on your PC?

- Just data about the new medical instrument. - The complete data?

No, no, it's untabulated data.

Isn't that the complete data?

Sorry, the number you dialed cannot go through right now. Please try again later.

Brother Yang, I'm begging you. You must help me to think of something. Don't reveal this, or I'll be doomed!

Who have you told about this?

Brother Yang,

I've only told you.

How did National Security question Wu Miao today?

I didn't dare to ask too much. He said...

he only said that National Security suspects that I planted the virus.

In that case, they didn't ask the right question.

They are searching for the person who planted the virus, not the person who leaked the secrets.

Understand?

Yu Haoran, listen to me.

First of all,

this document is not necessarily leaked. It's just a possibility.

Second,

if the document is leaked but without the cryptographic key,

it's just scrambled codes, right?

That's right.

Third, if the scrambled codes are deciphered,

they won't necessarily find out that you leaked it.

You haven't kept the files still, have you?

Deleted, deleted, I deleted them long ago!

In that case,

I'll just forget our conversation today.

You won't remember it either, right?

Call again.
