The Good Witch suggested
I visit the Wizard of Oz.

So I set out for
the Emerald City.

That's where the Wizard lived.

And that's when I met the
Scarecrow and the Tin Woodman,

the friends who
are visiting me now.

What kind of
person was the Wizard?

The Wizard had a lot of power.

At least everyone believed so.

The Good Witch thought he would
help me get back to Kansas.

Did he?

The Wizard was a fake.

Then how did you get home?

I didn't know he was
a fake at the time.

He told me if I could kill the
Wicked Witch of the West,

he would send me home.

Were you able to do that?

But that didn't
solve my problems.

Toto's in the dog pound.

thinking only of themselves

and then they go to bed at night
scolding themselves for not

of the Emerald City

are asleep in the poppy fields.

if... if you could see,

you would see that Oz
is losing its color.

I'm sure that many
people would be

greatly upset by what

can be well here

if they're not truly well in Oz.

That... that marvelous
country of stately trees

bursting with luscious fruits,

banks of gorgeous flowers

and birds... birds of rare
and brilliant plumage.

Oh yes, Oz is a
very special place.

I think you'd be
surprised to learn

how much Oz means
to so many people.

We had no idea
before we made this trip.

It is precisely because of
Dorothy's experience in Oz

that she was able to appreciate
what really matters in life.

I count myself as
just one among many

who have benefited from that
girl's courage and insight.

Characters live in the hearts

not necessarily make us familiar

with the end of other
stories in which the

characters we love may live.

It would be so much easier
if there was only one ending.

Many people feel that way.

You see,

I'm afraid there is something
that's painful to admit.

will work out in the end.

You're afraid you will fail
to accomplish your mission.

Yes, and we can't shake the
feeling that our failure could

somehow hurt Dorothy.

I wonder about what we are doing

loves you hadn't called you.

How could that be?

Well, perhaps you've been
summoned to create a new ending

to a story that otherwise
might have been much more sad.
