GENTLE MUSIC

NARRATOR: Around and along, in the middle of somewhere,

lives a little sound collector.

And his best friend, Mole. HE CHUCKLES

Putting in his hearing aids,

the Sound Collector starts to hear the world around him.

WAVE OF SOUND SWELLS

MOLE SNORING GENTLY

MOLE'S HEARTBEAT THUDS STEADILY

WATER BABBLING DULLY

SWITCH CLICKS

WAVE OF SOUND SWELLS Ah.

BIRDSONG, WIND RUSHING

CHILDREN LAUGHING

The sound of happy.

DISTANT BELLS TOLL, ENGINE RUMBLES

Just on time. A trip to find some sounds, perhaps.

BALL SQUEAKS

He's gone, Mole.

DISAPPOINTED GRUNT

Ah, well. You're never alone with a squeaky ball.

TRACTOR RUMBLES ALONG

WIND RUSTLES THE LEAVES

WIND RUSHES

Amazing.

Trees, such wonderful, old things.

It's his good friend the Seed Collector.

What's she doing?

Some kind of listening device?

GROANING AND BABBLING

Whatever it is he's hearing,

the Seed Collector thinks he should record it.

LOUD GROANING AND CREAKING

NARRATOR GASPS

The tree is groaning in the wind.

A wise, old noise.

He can feel the tree groaning, too.

TAPE WHIRRS

Deep vibrations.

GURGLING

NARRATOR GASPS Listen! It's drinking water.

From deep in the ground through its roots, high up into its branches.

GROANING AND GURGLING

THEY CHUCKLE

Another go?

I think she wants him to use it to find more sounds. How kind!

BIRD SCREECHES

Oh, look. A bat box. I wonder if there's anyone home.

HIGH-PITCHED SQUEAKING There's someone inside.

NARRATOR CHUCKLES Listen to them.

BICYCLE BELL DINGS Oh, look! What fun.

BELL DINGS, CHILDREN LAUGH

NARRATOR GASPS

She'll need to be quicker than that! BELL DINGS

GIGGLING ECHOES THROUGH DEVICE

CHILD: Woo-hoo!

NARRATOR: Happy noises!

SOUND COLLECTOR CHUCKLES Great sounds.

BICYCLE BELL DINGS In fact, here's a sound

he should join in with one day. CHILD WHOOPS

But not today. He has so much to do.

NARRATOR CHUCKLES

SNUFFLING AND GRUNTING

Ah, I think he's going to listen to another creature.

A creature he loves more than anyone.

Mole, of course.

MOLE MUNCHING

Time for a thank you feast, perhaps?

We're going to listen to today's sounds.

HE CHUCKLES

TREE GROANING AND CHILDREN LAUGHING
