Do you guys know

[Hetai Securities] we have a new MD?

External hire.

What's the story?

No idea.

Zhitong.

There's a new MD at the company.

You hear about it?

Parachuted in?

What about Ms. Dai?

Wasn't she up for MD?

After the Jia Fan incident,

there's no way she's getting promoted.

It's not entirely her fault though.

But someone

has to take the fall for this.

Let's not talk about it.

It's not for us peons to worry about.

Rumor has it the new MD

used to teach at Qingbei University.

Maybe you know him.

Uh, what's his name?

Qin Chang. Ring any bells?

Mr. Qin? He's coming to Hetai?

You do know him.

So, is he strict?

I only took his elective.

He's okay.

Is he hot?

Yes.

Why are you laughing?

Isn't it good that he's hot?

An Qi, Qin Yu,

we have a meeting in ten minutes.

- Got it. - Alright.

Off to the gallows again.

I'm leaving.

Good luck.

Thanks.

I'm leaving too.

Mr. Qin.

Hey, Missy.

Like we have a telepathic understanding.

How did you know I'm at Hetai?

Mr. Qin is coming to Hetai.

Did you know?

Which Mr. Qin?

Qin Chang.

He's parachuting in as our new MD.

Aren't you coming up?

Want to take me to dinner?

No way.

You stood me up last night.

Fine.

Since you're being so sincere...

What are you talking about?

Did you just run into Mr. Qin?

Then remember to pick me up tonight.

Let's have dinner tonight.

Sorry, Mr. Qin.

You heard that.

I have plans tonight.

Alright then.

Let's take a rain check.

He's in Shanghai,

wearing the tie I gave him.

A farewell gift.

Hey.

What's his deal?

He asked me out twice and then ghosted me.

Are you usually at the office?

Is he really that busy?

I'm just a junior employee.

How often do I get to see him?

Honestly, you shouldn't be so difficult.

He came all the way to Shanghai,

and you're avoiding him.

I was thinking of saying yes

if he asked me out one more time.

Seriously?

Being rejected twice should give him a clue.

Ugh, stop lecturing me.

Come shopping with me tonight.

I've got work to finish.

Dinner

for company while I work late?

I'll leave it here.

Alright.

There are a few more documents.

Ding Zhitong.

Mr. Qin?

Heard you joined Hetai.

Haven't run into you till now.

How's it going? Settling in?

Pretty well.

Everyone's been helpful.

Keep it up.

Just let me know if you need anything.

Mr. Qin.

I'm having dinner with Song Mingmei

at Raffles tonight.

Thanks.

What's wrong?

Something came up.

I might have to go.

Wait, Gan Yang's not even here.

And I finally have time

to cure your loneliness,

but you're ditching me?

It's an emergency.

And if I stay any longer,

I'll become a third wheel.

You two set me up?

Nope.

Can I go now?

Mr. Qin.

Stay for dinner.

No, thanks.

You two enjoy.

I'm leaving.

Bye.

Just to clarify,

I didn't ask Tong to invite you.

I asked her to invite you.

What?

You're not happy I'm in Shanghai?

Of course I am.

Then why have you been avoiding me?

Because you didn't tell me you were coming.

Don't girls like surprises?

So you kept it from me

to surprise me?

Well, can we

skip the surprises next time?

Then next time I ask you out, will you say yes?

It's what I should do.

You know,

thank you for letting me meet you.

What's wrong?

Actually,

there's something I've never told you.

Is that why

you couldn't make it today?

When I was in middle school,

my dad was diagnosed with a serious illness.

We spent all our savings,

sold our house,

and borrowed from relatives,

but still couldn't save him.

My mom is a really good person.

Whenever something happened to our relatives,

she was always the first to help.

But when it was our turn

and we needed help and money,

everything changed.

A few relatives did lend us money,

but then they'd show up constantly demanding repayment.

Well,

I understand they want their money back.

But the things they said

were really hurtful.

I work like crazy

because I want to clear these debts.

Not just me, my mom does too.

She was diagnosed with health issues a couple of years ago,

but she still secretly goes out to street vend.

So that's why you work so hard.

Tong.

I'm sorry.

I didn't know.

I even got upset with you about this.

I'm sorry.

You don't have to apologize.

I know you were just worried about me

and wanted what's best for me.

Do you remember the first time we went to the movies?

Yes.

That day,

I got a call.

It was a court summons.

My uncle sued me.

How much did you owe him?

With interest, it's 200,000 yuan.

Later, I borrowed money

from my aunt

to pay him back,

just to get him to drop the lawsuit.

I actually made it to the restaurant today.

But then my aunt's son started following me.

Did your aunt change her mind?

No.

Her son is a gambler.

He somehow heard that you're rich.

He probably wants to extort money from you.

I was afraid he would say something inappropriate to you two.

So I tried to get rid of him before meeting you.

But he kept following me.

Then I broke my phone

and couldn't contact you.

Did he do anything to you?

Really?

I'm fine.

It's just that

when I finally got rid of him and got back,

you had already left.

I'm sorry.

Look...

I didn't want to hide it from you.

I wanted to tell you after clearing the debts.

But I thought

if He Jin found you

and told you all this,

it would be better if I told you myself.

Why didn't you tell me earlier?

I could have helped you.

I just thought

money

ruins relationships.

But I really,

really like you.

So I didn't want

our relationship to become like that.

Alright.

Tong.

I can't stand seeing you struggle.

It's okay.

The worst is over anyway.

Are you afraid of all the trouble

in my family?

Yes.

Very much.

I'm afraid you'll suffer...

get hurt...

or leave me.

After telling Gan Yang everything,

I felt no barriers

between us anymore.

Come here.

Don't be scared.

Tong.

I want to marry you.

Where did that idea come from?

I want to give you a home.

I want to give you

a sense of security for life.

I'm already happy now.

But can you wait a year for me?

Let me pay off my debts first.

Well, Gan Yang,

it is the least romantic proposal ever.

Don't worry.

When I officially propose,

I'll surprise you.

How surprising?

You'll see.
