[Fighting for love]

[Episode 34]

What's the progress

of the floods in Guangdong and Guangxi?

Your Majesty,

Minister Bao caught a cold last night,

so he asked me to take a leave for him.

Then you tell me.

Your Majesty,

the floods in Guangdong and Guangxi are a serious problem.

I'm just a lowly official.

I don't know the details about it,

so I dare not talk about it.

Ministry of Rites.

Yes, Your Majesty.

Have you decided on the date and time of the sacrifice ceremony in the Imperial Ancestral Temple?

Your Majesty,

I've asked the Imperial Astronomical Bureau many times about this.

The Bureau said

the auspicious day was predicted by Director Chen Min himself.

But Director Chen

has had chickenpox these days.

He's resting at home

and not seeing anyone.

That's why I've been delayed

and haven't been informed of the auspicious date yet.

Now that it is not a good day today,

and many of you are ill,

why don't you all go back and rest?

Let's

discuss it another day.

Please take care of yourself, Your Majesty.

You...

Your Majesty, please forgive me.

Where is the person I asked you to pick up?

Your Majesty,

when I arrived,

Prince Qi Yu was already taken away by the Imperial Honored Consort.

Li Yu.

You used to look smart.

Why is it so hard

to entrust anything to you?

You can't even pick up someone.

Listen.

If you make a mistake again,

you can let another person take your place.

I'm sorry.

I deserve death!

Get lost!

Farewell, Your Majesty.

Master Mai.

Are you leaving me again?

Recently, both the palace and my place

are not safe.

You and Xing stay here for now.

I will come to visit you often, okay?

You must visit me often.

I promise you.

But you also have to promise me

not to go out without permission.

If you want me to know anything,

just tell the people outside.

I've sent a lot of people to protect you.

Master Mai, I promise you.

Protect His Highness, the Royal Descendant.

Except for Wang Qi,

no one is allowed to take him out.

Don't worry, Marshal Mai.

I'm going to leave.

Let's go.

Everybody will have it.

Line up. Don't push.

Next.

Everyone will have it, so don't push.

Next.

Come on, next.

Don't push.

Don't worry. There's enough for everyone.

Line up.

Don't rush. One by one.

Mai.

Is this where you used to live in Shengdu?

Yes.

I was so poor back then.

It seems that not all the people in the capital live a good life.

But fortunately, everyone here took good care of me.

Mai.

There are so many people here.

Should I call you Imperial Honored Consort?

I'll always be your Mai.

This is Brother Tang.

Brother Tang.

Don't go out running about again.

I'll send you to school.

You'll be successful when you've learned things.

I don't want to study.

No?

What do you want to do then?

I want to be your soldier.

Be my soldier?

I want to be like you and Brother Tang,

be a general.

Take me in.

Listen.

It's not easy to be my soldier.

Am I right?

Yes.

How can I follow you?

You really want to follow me?

Then promise me

that you'll study hard for a couple of years.

Then I'll send you to join the army.

I'll get back to work now.

Okay.

Sir,

the ministers are getting more and more outrageous.

But I haven't figured out how to punish them.

But I must do something.

The court will be in chaos.

Of course you should punish them.

However,

the court is full of Prime Minister Lin's trusted subordinates.

If you're going to punish them, you need to be cautious.

It's better to be safe than sorry.

My lord,

bad news.

Someone from the palace is here.

They are already at the inner gate.

Tidy up! Hurry!

My lord.

My lord, wake up.

His Majesty sent an imperial physician to treat you.

Who's here?

His Majesty sent Attendant Zhang and the imperial physician

to treat you.

His Majesty is worried about your health,

so he sent me to accompany the imperial physician to check your pulse.

Lord Bao,

please.

Attendant Zhang, please

ask His Majesty to pardon me on my behalf.

This is His Majesty's kindness.

Lord Bao,

just take it.

Prime Minister,

the subordinates of the three ministers

are still waiting outside.

Just wait some more.

Let's see what the situation is like in tomorrow morning's court.

Let them go back.

Yes.

You're all

the pillars of my court.

You're like my arms and legs.

Now, you have not fully recovered.

I'm really worried.

Doctor Du.

Yes.

How was the treatment yesterday?

Your Majesty,

those ministers are just low-spirited.

There's nothing serious.

That's good.

Go get two joss sticks

and send a message to my ministers.

They are the pillars of my court.

If they are not strong enough,

how can they help keep

the peace and prosperity of Nanxia?

If they still don't show up

when the two joss sticks burn out,

then they should

be removed from office.

I'm tired of sitting here.

If you are really tired,

you can lean on each other.

If it still doesn't work,

you can also sit on the ground.

Still not tired?

Fine.

Here.

Stop!

You cannot trespass the forbidden area of the palace.

How dare you!

We are officials of the imperial court.

We're going to the court.

How dare you stop us!

Step aside!

Move! Move!

Move!

The joss sticks are gone,

but the three of them haven't shown up yet.

It seems that they are really ill.

I thought

they pretended to be sick to avoid coming to the court.

In that case,

announce the decree.

Bao Hui, Minister of Works,

Chen Min, Director of the Imperial Astronomical Bureau,

and Jiang Rong from the Bureau of General Accounts, Ministry of Revenue,

pretended to be sick to avoid coming to the court,

neglected their duty,

and disregarded the public office.

The three of them are to be removed from office

and will never be allowed to take up an official position again,

as a warning to others.

If there are similar cases,

they will be severely punished.

Greetings, Your Majesty.

How are you?

Your Majesty,

I caught a cold last night

and had a severe headache.

My body kept trembling.

That's why I couldn't get up this morning, Your Majesty.

Your Majesty,

I suddenly caught chickenpox last night.

I felt weak.

That's why I didn't get up, Your Majesty.

Your Majesty.

I ate cold and rotten food yesterday.

I had loose bowels

for a whole night.

It didn't get any better, even this morning.

Since you haven't recovered

and need to sleep,

go back to sleep then.

Thank you, Your Majesty.

Guards!

Yes.

Take them away

and behead them.

Yes!

Your Majesty, please spare my life!

Your Majesty, please spare my life!

Your Majesty, please spare my life!

Your Majesty, spare my life!

Your Majesty!

Your Majesty, spare my life!

Your Majesty, please spare my life!

Your Majesty, please spare my life!

Your Majesty!

Your Majesty,

it seems unfair.

You gave everyone a length of two joss sticks.

But the two joss sticks burned together.

It's equivalent to one joss stick.

Guards!

We missed one.

Your Majesty is wise!

Your Majesty is wise!

Your Majesty! Your Majesty is wise!

Prime Minister.

What's the result?

All three were executed.

Prime Minister, you have been planning for many years before you made the Ministries of Revenue, Rites,

Works, and Personnel all work for you.

Now, His Majesty

took away the position of Minister of Works.

Prime Minister,

it's obviously targeting you.

Bao Hui is more pedantic than smart.

He is unqualified for important tasks.

Besides, the floods in Guangdong and Guangxi implicated lots of people.

It's time for me to get out of it.

Thirdly,

if I don't give up this position,

I can't prove

that His Majesty is determined to get rid of me.

Take some money to comfort the families of those three.

Yes.

I'll make arrangements now.

Prime Minister,

His Majesty is here.

Prime Minister, you're recuperating.

Would you like to get prepared?

No need.

Open the front door to welcome His Majesty.

[Lin's Mansion]

I didn't know Your Majesty was coming

and thus failed to meet Your Majesty at a distance.

Please forgive me, Your Majesty.

Please rise, Father-in-Law.

Thank you, Your Majesty.

I heard that you had been sick a few days ago.

Her Majesty and I were very worried.

It's just that she's pregnant and can't leave the palace,

while I'm too busy.

That's why I only come here today.

Father-in-Law, you won't blame me, will you?

Your Majesty is making me so embarrassed.

Let's not be a monarch and a courtier today,

but just a family.

Seeing you today…

You still look the same.

Have you recovered?

I've been recuperating for days with Your Majesty's grace.

I also have Lian Po's concerns—

Although I'm old,

I still want to serve the court.

I dare not forget it.

That's good.

That's good.

Neither Nanxia nor I

can live without the help of you.

I'm relieved

to hear your words.

It's my honor to have Your Majesty here.

Please come in and have a talk, Your Majesty.

Father-in-Law, please.

Please, Your Majesty.

I'll hold you, Father-in-Law.

Okay.

Be careful, Your Majesty.

Your Majesty, I'm here to feel your pulse.

I'll pass.

Follow this prescription.

No decoction.

Make it into honeyed boluses.

Jinchu,

guard the door.

Yes, Your Majesty.

[God of Fu Soup]

Your Majesty,

this prescription is used to hasten parturition.

Your Majesty, you really can't use it!

Just follow the prescription.

I have my own use.

I understand.

I will send it to you in person later.

What you should say

and what you shouldn't…

I don't think you need me to teach you that, right?

I know.

Don't worry, Your Majesty.

What's the matter, Father?

You've been leading the Zhenbei Army for a while.

Have you done it?

What do you mean, Father?

You just need to tell me

how many soldiers are willing to listen to you

in the Zhenbei Army?

Please tell me first

why you asked it.

You've changed.

You never asked much before.

Did I break your heart

because I used you in Qi Yu's matter?

I pretended to be dead and left home when I was five.

You used me as a secret killer.

Now, you're saying you broke my heart by using me.

I don't know where that came from.

You do have a grudge.

Fine.

I can tell you.

You were born in the same year as His Majesty.

You were also born in the 37th year of Yongxi.

Do you know that?

Isn't it the 38th year of Yongxi?

You are my only son.

If I had another choice, how could I bear to be separated from you?

I did use you to do some things,

but I'm also trying to save your life.

In that case,

do you still hate me?

My parents gave birth to me and raised me.

I've never hated you.

My son is a person who is grateful

and cares about the overall situation.

Then you must know

what I'm going to say next.

I want you to establish your prestige in the army as soon as possible

and win over the Zhenbei Army.

What do you want to do, Father?

Just do as I say.

When the time comes,

you'll know.

Please.

Please.

General Zhao.

General Lyu.

Greetings, Prime Minister Lin.

Prime Minister, I wonder why you asked us

here today.

I'll get straight to the point.

As far as I know,

General Zhao, General Lyu, you both

worked for the crown prince before,

like Marquis Zhongyong, didn't you?

Yes.

We were the former crown prince's guards.

After that, we joined the army upon the crown prince's recommendation.

If that's the case,

there's something I have to say.

May I ask what it is, Prime Minister?

It's claimed that Marquis Zhongyong died of an illness,

but he was actually poisoned to death.

Your Highness!

Your Highness!

Your Highness!

Your Highness!

Poisoned?

Yes.

Who dared to murder a high-ranking official?

Marquis Zhongyong was just a scapegoat.

It was only an accident.

The person they really wanted to murder

was Qi Yu.

Well...

Please think about it.

If the former royal grandson grew up safely,

who would worry the most?

Could it be...

His Majesty？

Marquis Zhongyong died of loyalty.

Now, in the Huainan Army,

you are the only ones who can be relied on.

I wonder if you two are willing to protect your old master

and help him rule the world.

Generals.

Is Father going to rebel?

I know

you grew up with His Majesty.

You are like brothers.

But you have to understand this.

As an essential official of three emperors,

although His Majesty relies on me,

he's also on guard against me.

If I fall,

he will destroy our whole family.

At that time,

would he still treat you as his brother?

Mu Bai.

Greetings, Your Majesty.

You are not my subordinate today.

We are brothers.

You may leave.

Yes.

Have a seat.

Yes.

Is everything okay at home?

When did you know?

We grew up together,

and you're so stupid.

It shouldn't be difficult for me to know these.

Okay.

I'll tell you everything today.

Actually, my real name is Lin Minshen.

I'm the son of Prime Minister Lin.

My father suspected you were Qi Huan,

so he planted me by your side

in case…

in case of emergency.

The spy reported today

that Mu Bai met Prime Minister Lin secretly.

To be honest, I didn't know why you went there.

But I bet with them

that you won't harm me.

Thank you, Your Majesty.

Thank you, Mu Bai.

Minshen.

You're finally here.

I know you will never abandon the Lin family.

I'm not here to help you.

I'm here to persuade you to stop now.

Fool.

Look how he treated me today.

He reprimanded my important subordinates at will.

Don't you understand?

At this point,

I can't back down anymore.

It's not that you can't.

You were the one who was pressing so hard

that His Majesty had to make a countermove against you.

Do you want your father to be bullied at will?

Ridiculous.

I've served three emperors. How can I be restrained by a boy?

Then you can usurp the throne?

Lin Minshen!

Do you remember that you are my son?

Heaven, Earth,

the emperor, the parents, and the master.

You...

You have to put your status as an official before that of a son.

You taught me this yourself when I was young.

You taught me to be loyal to the emperor

and love our country.

But what are you doing now?

Even if you don't care about me,

you should at least care about your sister Zerou.

She has been in the palace for so long.

Has she ever had a happy day?

Mai is a scheming woman.

She takes all of His Majesty’s heart.

Don't you want to do something for Zerou?

His Majesty does owe Zerou.

But since he ascended the throne,

he has been diligent and never slacked off.

For the people,

he is a good emperor.

If you continue to act arbitrarily

and stir up chaos in the court,

it will only be the people of Nanxia who suffer in the end.

How did I raise

a short-sighted son like you?

Those who achieve great things must sacrifice something.

Once prosperous times come,

the people will enjoy eternal blessings.

Stop lying to yourself.

You just did it for your own benefit.

-You... -Shut up!

Regarding tomorrow,

whether you help me or not,

just don't forget

your surname is Lin.

Father!

Your Majesty, are you still not feeling well today?

Maybe it's because I didn't sleep well last night.

Jinchu,

get me a bowl of medicine for miscarriage prevention.

At the sacrifice ceremony today,

I can't afford to be indecorous.

Yes.

[Lin's Mansion]

Send someone to protect Madam.

You'll be in charge of the safety of the mansion.

Don't worry, Prime Minister.

I've arranged everything.

Whether I win or lose depends on today.

It's time to enter the palace.

Your Majesty.

The imperial physician sent the honeyed boluses this morning.

The medicine for miscarriage prevention is also ready.

Jinchu,

go and get some candied fruits for me.

Yes.

Generals,

Prime Minister has ordered you

to stand by.

You are pregnant.

There's no need for courtesy.

This sacrifice ceremony

is the first time Your Majesty worshiped the Imperial Ancestral Temple after you ascended the throne.

How can I make a fool of myself in front of the officials by misbehaving?

Thank you, Honey.

This is my duty.

Let's go.

Your Majesty, please abdicate.

Prime Minister Lin, are you trying to rebel?

No.

I'm just trying to set things right

so that the people will give their allegiance to the right person.

Protect His Majesty!

Where is General Li?

I am here.

I, Li Yu, am willing to serve

the legitimate emperor.

Please rise, General.

Arrest them.

Li Yu,

you've been with me for more than ten years.

Ten years.

But in the past ten years,

have Your Majesty ever favored me?

Commander Li, you've risked your life for him these years.

But what did you get in the end?

Are you really satisfied

to be the mere commander of the imperial guards?

Prime Minister Lin, stop talking.

I will do it.

Is that why you betrayed me?

How can Your Majesty understand

the feeling that when the lips are gone, the teeth will be cold?

Your Majesty, please abdicate.

Your Majesty, please abdicate!

Enough!

Father.

Stop now.

Unfilial son!

Father.

Stop it.

Even if you succeeded,

would the new emperor watch his maternal relative become powerful?

Stop going down the wrong path.

You...

Your Majesty, please abdicate.

The Zhenbei Army came to save the emperor.

We'll only punish the leader.

If the soldiers hand over their weapons,

they will be forgiven.

The Zhenbei Army came to save the emperor.

We'll only punish the leader.

If the soldiers hand over their weapons,

they will be forgiven.

I'm late.

Please forgive me, Your Majesty.

It's not too late.

You're just in time.

Please rise.

Thank you, Your Majesty.

It’s not my credit.

It's all thanks to Mai's timely discovery.

I saw Li Yu on the street.

He was drunk

and was dragged into a carriage.

I thought something was fishy, so I followed him.

I found the carriage left the city.

Who did he go and meet?

At Shili Pavilion outside the city.

He went to see Prime Minister Lin.

Prime Minister Lin?

Brother Tang,

go back to the camp quickly

and deploy your men.

Be ready to protect His Majesty at any time.

Okay.

Mai.

Do you want to go to the palace

and report this to His Majesty?

It's not appropriate for me to participate in military affairs now.

I'll trust everything to you, Big Brother.

You must protect His Majesty

at all costs.

Thanks to Mai.

Your Majesty.

I have a request.

Go ahead.

I hope you can restore Mai to her former position.

I'll announce it now.

I hereby reinstate Mai as the Marshal of the Zhenbei Army.

Thank you, Your Majesty.

Your Majesty!

Zerou.

Your Majesty.

Call the imperial physician.

Your Majesty.

The royal offspring is gone.

How is Her Majesty?

Her Majesty is safe.

It won't harm her ability to have children in the future.

But it damaged her health, anyway.

Her vitality is greatly damaged.

She needs to rest in bed for three months.

Her Majesty is awake.

You may leave now.

Yes.

Yes.

Your Majesty.

Why did you do that?

Your Majesty is like Heaven to me.

I won't allow anyone to hurt you,

including myself.

Since I'm your Heaven,

why didn't you tell me about this?

I dare not.

Why not?

If I had told you the truth,

would you believe my sincerity,

or would you think I had other intentions?

I dare not gamble.

Take good care of yourself.

Your Majesty.

Your Majesty, can you spare my father's life?

You've come.

Prime Minister Lin, why did you ask

to see me?

Have Rou and Minshen been implicated?

Both of them are fine.

He's just showing it to others.

He's no longer

that foppish marquis who relied on others all the time.

He has become a real emperor.

Being with a king is like being with a tiger.

This saying has never been false.

You can only understand

the taste of power after you taste it.

Han Maisui.

If you were in my position,

what would you do?

Prime Minister Lin, you're wrong.

It's not that power tempts people to do evil,

but because you have evil in your heart in the first place.

That's why you were tempted.

In my heart,

I have never had any improper thoughts.

You may not have other thoughts,

but in the eyes of others, it may not be so.

When a person is about to die, his words are kinder.

Let me remind you.

If you don't believe me today,

then, when you are in prison one day, like me,

it'll be too late for you to regret it.

Do you know

His Majesty and Beimo are secretly in collusion?
