[Fighting for love]

[Episode 18]

[Beimo Military Camp, Wulan Mountains]

Young Master!

-Don't move, Young Master. -Let me down.

I want to find my brother.

Young Master.

Doctor!

Doctor!

Hurry!

General,

he has fallen into the mountain stream.

Are you sure he's dead?

The mountain is so high.

I don't think he'll survive that fall.

Nonsense.

That is Chang Yuqing.

Go look for him again.

I need to see him, alive or dead.

Yes.

It must be your scheme.

Deputy General Cui has lost so much blood

that he starts to talk nonsense.

Listen up.

While General Chang is away,

I'll take his position temporarily.

Yes.

Watch the step.

Come on.

Come here.

I don't trust Jiang.

Keep an eye on him.

Send more people to look for Brother Chang.

If you can't find him,

don't come back.

Yes.

Go!

Take care.

Bro!

I haven't found him.

I didn't see his body.

Check over there.

Lieutenant Tang, we can't wait any longer.

The scouts of the Beimo Army are getting closer and closer.

If we wait any longer,

we might get stuck too.

No.

We can't give up on our fellow fighters.

Yes.

Relax.

I didn't see anything.

I'll kill you!

You're pretty agile.

Why did you save me?

Because I want you to send me out of the mountains.

The Beimo soldiers are all over this place.

Why would I?

I can choose to save you,

or I can also kill you.

Send me out of the mountains tomorrow morning.

I'll let you go now.

Deal.

How can I trust you?

I'm a man of my word.

I will never go back on a promise.

Okay.

What's your name?

As we are here now,

I'm not a general, and you're not a soldier.

Let's be friends.

What's your name?

I'm Maisui.

You can call me Mai.

Mai.

That's a nice name.

Hang in there.

We're here.

Where is Battalion Commander Lu?

He died in battle.

Everyone else is dead.

We are all the people left in the Seventh Battalion.

Mai.

Where's Mai?

Lieutenant Tang.

Mai fell off the cliff

in order to cover us.

What?

Brother Tang.

Will Mai die?

No way.

Mai is tough.

He won't die.

I'll go look for him.

I'll go with you.

The Seventh Battalion has suffered too great a loss.

Go back to Pingjia'ao first.

You guys, escort our bros from the Seventh Battalion back to the camp.

Dong, Liu.

You two go prepare some Beimo military uniforms.

Yes.

Yes.

Don't worry.

We'll go look for him now.

Brother Tang.

If Mai is alive,

he'll leave marks of the Seventh Battalion.

I know the mark.

Let me go with you, too.

Okay, you come with me.

[Pingjia'ao]

General, it's getting late.

You should rest.

It's so cold.

Will she catch a cold?

Mai is tough.

He'll be fine.

Thank you.

Careful. It's hot.

Why did you disguise yourself as a man

to join the army?

Don't tell me you just want to fight the enemies.

I won't believe it.

You're actually right.

That is my intention.

You saved my life.

If you are willing to tell me the truth,

I might be able to help you.

How?

My personal enemy is from Beimo.

So what?

Who is he?

What does he do?

I guess I can tell you.

Chen Qi.

Chen Qi?

You have a grudge against Chen Qi?

What grudge?

Did you really believe it?

In that case,

come back to Beimo with me.

I'll avenge you.

How?

You are a general of Beimo.

He is the Marshal of Beimo.

Do you think I'm a fool?

I can't explain this

in a short time.

But I'm a man of my word.

I appreciate your kindness.

But I'm the only one who can take this revenge.

You can repay me for other things later.

Mai!

Mai! Mai!

Mai!

Brother Tang.

Do you think Mai is still alive?

What are you talking about?

Mai must be alive.

Let's check over there.

Okay.

Dong, Liu.

Let's go over there.

Okay. Hurry.

Look over there.

They are here for me.

Leave after I get out of this forest.

After leaving this forest,

there's a small village at the foot of the mountain.

You can hide over there.

You guys go there.

You go over there.

Hurry.

Thank you.

Is there anyone over there?

No.

I hope we won't meet on the battlefield in the future.

Take care.

Are you here for me?

General Chang.

General Chang! General Chang!

General Chang.

Young Master sent us to look for you.

Thank you. Let's go.

Yes.

Someone stayed here not long ago.

Search carefully.

Look!

This is the mark Mai has left.

Let's continue searching.

Congratulations on your safe return, General Chang.

Are you disappointed, Deputy General Jiang?

It's a blessing for the whole army to have you back safely.

Why would I be disappointed?

I can't bear your words.

On the night I was away,

Deputy General Jiang, you held the banner

and strictly enforced the orders and prohibitions.

Well done.

Since you're back,

I will return the banner.

I'll follow your orders, General.

How's Cui Yan's injury?

The military doctor has checked on him.

He won't die.

I'll go and see him.

Yes.

Zhu is back.

Ma'am.

Son!

Son, you're back!

I miss you, Son.

You came back alone?

What about your father?

Madam, you got the wrong person.

I'm not your son.

Zhu.

What's wrong with you?

You don't even know your mother after fighting outside for a while?

Mother.

I'm back.

Do we have clean clothes at home?

Get me changed.

Yes. Yes.

Let's go.

Come on.

Brother Tang, look.

It should be that way.

Go.

Go! Hurry!

Let's go.

Hurry! Get changed.

Mother!

These are women's clothes.

Women should wear women's clothes.

See what you're wearing.

Take it off, and I'll wash it for you.

Don't bother.

Mother, I'm hungry.

Make me a bowl of noodles.

I'll cook for you.

Okay, Mother. Go.

Get changed.

-Okay. -Put it on.

If Mai had been here,

she'd definitely have left a mark.

Search carefully.

Okay.

Let's go.

Let's split up.

Dong, Liu.

Go over there.

Erdan, go over there.

Okay.

Go.

Brother.

Sit down.

Go.

Brother, I'm glad you're back.

I knew you'd be safe.

I'm so embarrassed by you.

We've already blocked

those Nanxia soldiers,

but who knew

there was such a sinister and cunning man.

I fell into his trap by accident.

I'll avenge you.

By the way,

where did you go?

I was ambushed and fell off the cliff.

I stayed in the mountains for a night,

so I didn't come back in time.

You were ambushed?

Have you also run into Nanxia soldiers?

No, someone bribed Liu San

and tried to murder me.

Chen Qi.

It must be him.

I'll...

Cui Yan.

How many times have I told you?

Can you use your brain?

Do you have evidence?

If you don't have any evidence, then you'll be offending your superior.

He can kill you anytime.

What should we do? Just let it go?

Of course not.

I'll get it even.

Take a good rest.

You'll be helpful sooner or later.

Okay.

Sorry to bother you.

Brother Tang.

Mai.

Come in.

Beimo dog!

I'll kill you!

Mother!

Mother! Mother!

Put it down, Mother.

Mother, this is your son-in-law.

Nonsense!

He is your father.

Father?

Father! You're back.

Good timing. My mother is cooking.

Honey,

you're back.

You must be hungry. I'll cook for you.

Have a good chat with your father.

-I'll cook. -Mother.

Go back to your cooking.

I'll chat with my father.

Father.

Let's talk over there.

Marshal,

they've found Chang Yuqing.

How is it?

He came back alive.

Tell Jiang Chengyi to conceal himself.

Don't leave any trace.

I understand.

Mai.

After you fell off the cliff,

how did you spend the night?

I was lucky, so I didn't die.

I found a cave to spend the night.

Big Brother,

have you found Wang Qi and the others?

I received the soldiers of the Seventh Battalion at the Shihukou Pass.

There aren't many left.

Mai.

I want to confess something to you.

What is it?

In fact, I guessed you were a girl.

You were badly injured after the Battle of Yelanggou,

but you refused to let the military doctor take off your clothes to treat you.

I thought it was strange then.

Later, I thought about it.

You didn't want to go into the water with us.

You even said you have a peculiarity

that you have to go to the toilet alone.

The more I thought about it, the weirder I found it was.

Until today,

I become certain,

seeing you dress like this.

Thank you for keeping the secret for me.

I have my reasons for pretending to be a man.

I didn't mean to hide it from you.

I understand.

But as long as you call me Big Brother once,

I'll be your Big Brother forever.

By the way,

does General Shang know about this, too?

Yes.

Big Brother,

only you,

Mr. Xu, and General Shang know about it.

Mai.

Then let's…

Otherwise, we'll be in danger.

What do you want?

Hurry up.

Here.

Mai.

Erdan.

Mai.

What happened to your face?

What happened here?

What about there?

I'm fine. It's just a scratch.

That's good.

Alright, stop hugging.

Go back

and change your clothes.

Let's go.

Go!

[Pingjia'ao]

Mr. Xu,

I have a question.

That is Chang Yuqing.

This is the Seventh Battalion.

The Seventh Battalion is in charge of luring Chang Yuqing's vanguard

to Shihukou Pass.

Then, Tang Shaoyi will come to their aid.

Then what happens next?

Pingjia'ao is located in a low-lying place.

It is surrounded by the mountains in three directions.

There is only one pass to go in and out of it.

It's a perfect place to set up an ambush.

It's easy to defend and hard to attack.

Once Chang Yuqing brings his troops in,

we will ambush him

and stop him from meeting the main force.

I guarantee this valiant general of Beimo

can only come but never leave.

You're brilliant.

When their vanguard arrives here,

we will open the city gate.

We can't open the city gate.

and send…

How can we bring Mai back

without opening the city gate?

If we open the gate, Chang Yu Qing will understand immediately

that this is a trap to lure him.

Won't that make them abandoned troops?

To get rid of Chang Yuqing,

we have no choice.

I disagree.

In your opinion,

what should we do?

In my view,

now that Chang Yuqing's vanguard

is already here,

we can totally open the city gate

and send all our troops

to fight against Chang Yuqing's main force.

Then I'll send a squad

to save Mai and the lot.

General, have you forgotten

that we, the Zhenbei Army, and the Beimo Army

have a great disparity in terms of strength?

If you send the troops out,

not only will our main force be exposed,

but we may also be wiped out.

Let's say you really fight Chang Yuqing head-on.

How confident are you

to defeat

this Beimo general who's been fighting on the battlefield since he was in his teens?

How sure are you that you can get away safely?

I don't care about that,

I have to save Mai and the others.

No one should be left behind.

Okay.

Even if we have God's help

and don't get wiped out,

by then,

everything we've done from Qingzhou

will be lost altogether.

His Majesty will have excuses

to make you go back to Shengdu.

It will be so easy

to deprive you of your military power.

It only takes a whim of him.

But I can't risk the lives of officers and soldiers

for my own survival.

You can act regardless of your own life,

but you have to think for Princess Shenghua.

If anything happens to you,

will Her Highness still live on?

It was my idea.

It has nothing to do with you.

If the plan is reviled by people in the future

I, Xu Jing, will take the blame.

Sergeant,

are we abandoned?

What are you talking about?

This is a military order.

If Battalion Commander Lu were still alive...

Enough!

If Battalion Commander Lu were here,

he wouldn't want to hear you say that.

Guys.

Come on! Hurry!

Go.

General.

We have found traces of the Zhenbei Army in the Wulan Mountains.

Good.

I was wondering why such a sizeable army

left no trace at all.

General.

This is from Yuzhou.

Go to scout again.

Make sure to locate the middle troops of the Zhenbei Army.

Yes.

You may all leave.

Yes.

General.

This is a secret letter from Marshal Chen.

Please have a look.

What did the Marshal say?

[The main force is going south] [Return to Yuzhou immediately to join us] [Chen Qi]

What are you going to do, General?

Tell him

that they hurt Cui Yan

and that I'll return when I avenge that.

Here, be careful.

Erdan.

Give me a hand.

Come on.

Come on.

No need…

to treat me like a girl.

Let's go.

Guys, let me tell you.

Look.

We're now in Pingjia'ao

and near Shihukou Pass.

This is the defense line of the Beimo army.

We're now pretending that we're moving from Shihukou Pass

to Pingjia'ao.

Then tell me,

should we make some noise

along this line?

Sergeant! Sergeant!

Mai.

Mai! Mai is back!

Mai! Mai is back!

-Is everyone okay? -It's really Mai.

-You're finally back. -Is everyone okay?

I'm glad you're okay.

Are you okay?

I'm fine.

I didn't expect

you are still alive.

Why are you still here?

Didn't you go back to the camp?

Yes.

Where are my cavalries?

Didn't I ask them to send you back?

Mai.

Don't mention it.

I brought our men back to Pingjia'ao.

After a night of rest,

they ordered us out again.

Yes, don't worry.

Your men of the cavalry battalion have been back.

They told us

the Seventh Battalion just fought with Chang Yuqing.

So if we go to lure him,

Chang Yuqing won't get suspicious.

He will come out for sure.

That's why I brought my men out

to hide here.

What did you say?

They want you to come out to lure Chang Yuqing?

That wretch!

After the Battle of Shihukou Pass,

there are not many men left in the Seventh Battalion.

Will he be happy

when all the men of the Seventh Battalion are dead?

Get up. I'll take you back to the camp.

Mai.

This is a military order.

Lu Gang put me in charge of the Seventh Battalion before he died.

My words are military orders!

Get up!

Back to the camp!

Hurry!

Look! They are of the Seventh Battalion!

They seem to be injured.

Open the gate!

Whose idea was it?

Mine.

It seems that after learning from Mr. Xu for so long,

you've learned nothing.

How much money can the lives of

the officers and soldiers of the Seventh Battalion make for you?

Is it enough for you?

If not,

which battalion will you send out again?

The Ninth Battalion or the Tenth?

Mai.

If you want to hit me,

hit me.

I won't fight back.

Hit you?

Are these brothers' lives only worth a few punches?

Now, not even one out of ten men of the Seventh Battalion survived.

The survivors don't have much life left in them.

Every one of them is a brave warrior.

Let me tell you.

What they want now is your respect

instead of getting their lives cast away again!

That's not what I meant.

A general should love a soldier like his son.

If you do this,

you'll only disappoint them deeply.

How can these officers and soldiers

follow you in the future?

A softhearted general is not suitable to command an army.

Mai.

There are laws and rules in the army.

How can you treat General like that?

You left the camp without permission.

Do you acknowledge your guilt?

Don't worry, Mr. Xu.

I will get my punishment later.

I know you're angry with General,

but I forced him to make this decision.

Let me ask you.

If you were a shepherd boy,

when you ran into a pack of wolves,

either you could sacrifice a small part of the sheep

to attract the wolves away

and get more sheep out of danger,

or you had to watch the wolves kill all the sheep.

Which would you choose?

Couldn't there be no sacrifice at all?

You can't have it both ways.

Mai.

You're familiar with books on the art of war.

You should understand it.

I understand what you said.

If I were you,

when those sheep couldn't be saved,

I'd lead the rest of the sheep

to fight against the wolves with dignity.

Mr. Xu.

I think Mai is right.

Should we

have a fair fight with Chang Yuqing?

Slowly.

Have some water.

Sergeant, there's the powder of pseudo-ginseng in it.

Drink it while it's still warm.

Thank you.

Mai.

Drink slowly.

Don't call me Sergeant anymore.

I stopped being your Sergeant long ago.

You were my Sergeant on the first day I joined the army.

And you will be for the rest of my life.

Here.

Mai.

To be honest,

all of us, me included,

should thank you.

Without you risking your life

to save us,

we would all be killed.

I promised Battalion Commander Lu

that I'd bring our brothers back.

I can't break my promise.

Aren't we brothers forever?

You said it yourself.

When you first joined the army,

I tried every means to bully you

to get rid of you.

I didn't know you were such a good friend.

Speaking of which,

I have to make it clear.

Was it because of you the first time I got beaten

after I joined the army?

No,

but I was beaten, too.

And when my butt was caned,

I didn't even scream.

Erdan.

Is it true that I didn't scream that day?

Yes, it's true. You didn't.

See?

Sergeant,

I just want to ask you.

Will the wounded soldiers

be transferred to other battalions?

Are we going to separate?

So what if we're separated?

I'll still be your Sergeant even if we're not together.

What? Are you going to deny it?

Brothers,

let's substitute medicine for wine.

This is

to Battalion Commander Lu

and to our brothers who stayed in the Wulan Mountains forever.

Although the Seventh Battalion is gone,

the brothers,

brotherhood, and spirit of the Seventh Battalion

will always be there.

Always be there!

Always!

Cui Yan.

Can you do it?

Don't worry, brother.

I'll kill those Nanxia soldiers myself!

Let's go!

Sergeant,

it is too damp in this village.

The quilt is moldy.

It makes me itchy all over.

Just take it out to air it.

Sergeant.

Sergeant, look.

There are fish, eggs,

and shrimps!

There's so much delicious food.

It smells so good.

So much delicious food.

Let's eat.

Let's eat.

Bro,

who arranged this?

This is our General's order.

Only the Seventh Battalion has this.

Sergeant,

eat this.

Here.

Let's eat.

Sergeant.

Try this.

Delicious.

Yum.

Sergeant.

Why aren't you eating?

Alright.

Give me one.

Here you are.

All you know is eat!

This may be

the last meal

we have together.

Sergeant,

are we going to separate?

General.

Careful.

What?

Do you not like the food I prepared?

General,

I lost my appetite at the thought

that we'd go our separate ways.

Our Seventh Battalion of Infantry

was willing to be the bait to cover the middle troops

and attacked the Beimo general Chang Yuqing head-on.

You made significant contributions but suffered a great loss.

I, Shang Yizhi, will never forget

this soldierly good fellowship.

You, too. Please remember it.

Now there are only 18 people left

in the Seventh Battalion.

But it represents the soul of our army,

which can't be dispersed.

So, I decided

to make an exception

and keep the Seventh Battalion of Infantry.

Top up the men according to its original establishment.

Thank you, General.

Thank you, General.

Sergeant,

we don't have to separate.

You jinx.

Being with you,

I'll never get promoted.

Then who'll be our new commander?

Mai.

Yes.

I'll appoint you the battalion commander

of the Seventh Battalion of Infantry of the Zhenbei Army.
