Standby. Firing!

They know call-out times, how we think,

how we move, everything.

It's got to be an inside man.

We have eyewitness reports of John Hudson fleeing the scene.

John never made me feel part of the team.

Always making a snide comment about Muslims.

Have you, um, heard any more about John?

We didn't find anything on him. He's clean.

When you're away from the job, is it hard to switch off?

Yeah, it can be, which can be difficult for my partner.

I was with someone else. Does that mean it's over between us?

I don't know.

I know us lot don't really do talking,

but if you wanted to, I'm right here.

You know, I really think we've got loads of stuff in common.

It's a privilege to have been elected as your MP.

Mind if I have a word? Surprisingly easy to hide something in here.

Central eight-five, we have a critical ongoing situation.

Possible IED. Right, so, Karl, come on.

What about us?

Were you using me? Sorry, Lana.

My job is to keep people safe. And I haven't been able to.

There was a gentleman called Ali Hussein.

Help me! Just stay really, really still, OK?

Just couldn't get to the device in time.

My brother.

We believe your brother is involved with the Crusaders cell.

I'm sorry, Sir, are you sure you mean my Billy?

The timer, it means nothing. They've put it there as a trick.

Listen to me, I'm your sister. Lana!

Suspect is unlocking door.

And, um... Nut.

My number one. My friend.

Have you got my snips, mate? Yeah, coming.

And how does it feel carrying that responsibility?

I'm scared that next time I step up to a device,

I'm not gonna know what I'm doing.

Well, look who it is!

Sorry, do I know you?

I'm looking for a highly-trained top professional called Danny?

Right. Not some doughnut that's getting married next week.

That's in two weeks and three days,

if you even bothered to read your invite.

Course I did. Congratulations. I'm really happy for you.

You not been home yet? No. Straight from the airport.

Plane was delayed.

Called being a professional.

Oh. It's good to have you back.

Yeah, it's good to be back.

Six months without your ugly mug was too long. Ooh!

Thank you. My name's Lana Washington.

I'm an explosives officer, otherwise known as EXPO, at the Met.

For most people, being face to face with a bomb

is their worst nightmare.

Making speeches is mine.

I've spent the last few months making the same joke

to Ukrainian EXPOs I've been training in Estonia.

They didn't find it funny either.

EXPOs have a saying,

"Be alert to the absence of the normal,

"and the presence of the abnormal."

In Afghanistan, we could always spot the high possibility of an IED,

there were no children out playing on the streets,

no locals going about their usual business.

It's a little trickier to spot here.

Here are some examples of Improvised Explosive Devices.

There are three main types of IED,

time, command and victim.

Time is dependent upon a time switch,

command means somebody else is in control of the device,

and victim is your classic booby trap.

The moment you realise it's there is the moment it kills you.

Now, all the devices you see here

are not from the battlefields of Afghanistan,

they're not from the streets of Baghdad,

they're not historic relics from Belfast.

All these IEDs were found and neutralised here in London.

The Met is under a constant state of alert.

We need to adapt to new threats, new techniques, new enemies.

Oi! Coffee here.

Danger is all around,

often from the most unlikely sources.

We have to be on our guard at... all times.

Please make your way to the exit in an orderly fashion.

Wash, we're getting reports in

of an incident at the Isle of Dogs power station.

Some kind of explosion. Yeah, we saw it.

First response have seen some wires on the entrance gate,

possibly an IED.

We're leaving now. ETA is 30 minutes.

You're closer, right?

What, do you want me to take it?

Look, I know you're not officially back on duty until tomorrow,

but if you could hold the fort, then... Hass. Come on.

Are you OK with that? Er, yeah, sure. No problem.

I'll see you in a bit.

Set? Yeah.

Get the LPPs in position.

We need to move fast once the gate's cleared.

Lana Washington, bomb disposal. Shaun Hodge, station commander.

Where is the suspect device? It's on the gate.

It's the only way through to get to the fire.

Is there anyone inside? Shift workers.

We're worried that the fire could spread to the transformer

on the far side, and cause that to explode, too.

We can't get to either until you clear the gate.

Any word on Hass?

No, not yet.

Shall we get you kitted up?

Sure this has got heavier.

Been here before, haven't we, boss?

OK?

Everyone back!

'What we got, boss?'

Looks like a trigger wire.

It bridges both sides of the gate.

I need to get a better look.

IED confirmed.

Shit. 'Boss, you OK?'

We've two devices. They seem to be linked.

The whole gate is set to blow.

OK, what's the status?

Here you go. Easy does it.

Ahh!

So, can we go in?

Afraid not. We've got two devices.

They're both hidden behind the warning signs.

It looks like they're set to blow simultaneously

after the gate's opened.

Are you gonna wait for Hass?

Sir, we're at the power station now.

Fire service needs to get in to deal with the transformer fire

and evacuate staff,

but there are reports of some kind of IED on the gate.

I'm gonna speak to the fire commander and EXPO

and, um, and report back.

Yes, Sir.

Lana. Thom.

I was expecting Hass. Sorry, you got me.

So what are we dealing with?

Er, we've got two devices on the access gate.

They've rigged it so we can't reach it from this side.

And if anyone opens the gate, it'll go off? Correct.

DS Morgan. Lana Washington, EXPO.

From the staff lists, there are three shift workers trapped inside.

We're trying to establish contact. How long have we got?

The fire's 20 metres from the second transformer,

and if that goes up,

the shift workers won't stand a chance.

We need to get inside ASAP.

Can you cut a hole in the fence big enough for me to get through?

Yes, no problem.

EXPO need access to the other side of the gate.

We need to cut a hole in the chain...

You two talk much?

Er, no, not since I left.

See you in a sec. Stranger!

What time do you call this?

All right? What's going on?

What the fuck's he doing here?

He's been back a couple of months. He's on probation.

He almost had me killed. He's dangerous.

Not any more. He's doing good. He's buckled down.

He's a racist. You said so yourself. He's trying to change.

The truth is, we don't have enough trained personnel, Wash.

He made a mistake. He knows it, OK? He's a valuable member of the team.

My team. You were away. I was in charge.

Decisions had to be made. I made them.

Boss? Yeah? Yes.

They're set. Listen, I can handle this.

I've got it. Danny, mate.

Stag do. Forget the paintballing.

We'll go to this little strip club in Whitechapel I know, yeah?

My treat.

Last night of freedom, mate. Yeah, sounds good, man.

All right, Wash?

There's two devices on the access gate.

And I'm gonna go through.

Michael. Yes?

I'll need the Met vest. Yes, Sir.

There might be a trip in the devices.

Disabling one could arm the other. So what are you thinking?

Well, we could set both disruptors to fire at exactly the same time.

You all right there, Wash? You need any help, just let me know.

I'm fine. Danny, we're up.

So that's her, then? What?

Your ex? Oh, yeah.

New guv. Sir. DCI Youngblood?

I've just driven through the City of London.

It's pitch black. What's going on?

EXPO two, let them know to expect two blasts.

EXPO eight, we're setting up two simultaneous controlled explosions.

Central eight-five, received.

Disruptors set. Get down! Cover! Cover!

Danny, take the shot.

Stand by. Firing. Three, two, one.

I only saw one blast.

It could be a misfire, Sir. Hass, what's happening?

Waiting on EXPO two. We need in.

Danny, take the shot again. Stand by. Firing in three, two, one.

What the fuck?

We've got a fault with the equipment.

First device is clear.

'And the second device?'

Shit.

What's she doing?

Hass, sitrep. Wash, what's going on?

We've got a timer. Our actions must have set it off.

How long? Thirty seconds!

OK, get out of there.

Hard cover! Get back! Take cover! Hard cover!

Take cover! Who misses a timer?

Swear down, will you just shut up? All right.

I'm replacing the disruptor.

Wash, get away from there! Get down!

Move! Get away!

Ten seconds, Hass.

Danny, take the shot! Take the shot! Firing! Three, two, one.

EXPO two. Clear. Repeat, clear. Send 'em in.

The first day, Hass. Just cut it.

Will you just pack it in, yeah? Just saying.

Wash, what happened back there?

Cartridge failed.

Are you OK? Yeah, I'm fine.

Really.

Nice one, Hass. Not now, Danny.

Commander John Francis.

Hassan Rahim, EXPO. I know who you are.

Just putting names to faces.

So you're the senior EXPO? Yes, Sir.

Standing in for Lana Washington last six months.

And done a cracking job, I hear.

Thank you, Sir. Wash is back now.

Tomorrow, officially. But she led the op?

Yes, Sir. She was near, first on the scene.

You sounded concerned. On the radio.

What was the problem?

Just a technical issue, Sir.

And she's been away, on secondment?

Yes, Sir. She's been teaching bomb disposal to Ukrainian EODs.

But had some problems before?

Her brother...

I believe he was killed in a terrorist-related incident,

and this, er, this other EXPO, who orchestrated the bombing campaign...

It was difficult for us all, Sir.

Of course it was.

Manufacturing fault maybe? Yeah, I'll get it checked out. Yeah.

You're back, then? Yeah. With a bang.

You did well. First live shout since...

Yeah. Yeah, course.

You were missed.

Yeah?

How have you been? You good?

Yeah, great. Got promoted, I see.

Golden boy.

Only a matter of time and I'll be running the whole Met. Huh!

I hear congratulations are in order. Yeah, cheers.

Yeah, getting wed. Don't get more grown up than that.

Yeah, well, she's the one, so...

Single life, it does have its limits.

What about you? Are you seeing anyone?

Um, well, this job, you know what it's like.

Yeah, I get it.

Commander Francis is here. He'd like to meet you.

Is this your new boss?

And yours too, so be polite.

I'm always fucking polite. Lana, um, Commander John Francis.

EXPO Washington. Sir. Impressive work back there.

Yeah, the device is clear, and once the power station's secure,

I'll send forensics in to take a look.

Very good. Great to see a woman in the job.

Is it? Course. And unusual.

Yeah, well, that's me. I'm unusual.

What was the problem with the defuser?

Er, the disruptor.

I mean, we normally just call it the "pig stick".

Oh, how eloquent (!)

Oh, excuse me.

It's a technical issue. Faulty cartridge. It does happen.

Ah, technical issue. That's what EXPO Rahim said, too.

Didn't feel the need for the bomb suit?

No, if the device functioned, the suit wouldn't save me anyway.

It can get in the way.

Well, as long as you're comfortable. Sir.

I want the jets in from the side. Come on!

Scout around the locality.

Someone will have seen what happened.

Maybe we get lucky and they filmed something. Thank you.

Helen, are EMT finished with the station workers?

Can any of them tell us what happened?

Um, well, two of them are dead.

The third one, Joe Hanson, he hasn't been found.

OK. Er, CCTV? There isn't any.

How is that possible?

It's monitored remotely,

but the coverage after 6pm is missing.

Maybe they were hacked.

Got a live one. Coming through!

Yeah, I've got this.

What's with those two?

Oh, Danny's been working with John since you were away,

and they get on like a house on fire.

Really? Wash...

Thank you for backing me up with Francis.

Course.

And for stepping up while I was on secondment. It means a lot.

I appreciate it. It's no biggy, OK?

I just hope that, you know, it's cleared your head a bit.

Getting away can-can do that. You'd think so, yeah.

I've made some mistakes.

I need to put that one right.

Heads up, that ship has sailed.

Thom and Helen, they're an item now.

Hey. Thirsty work, innit? Yeah.

Want some? Come prepared.

Girl Scout? Er, common sense?

Um, look, talking of common sense, just go easy on the new commander.

He's just come in

and he's looking for any excuse to stamp his authority, so just...

OK. You know me.

Yeah. Well, exactly.

DCI Youngblood. Joe Hanson, the missing engineer.

Has he said anything? No.

He's in no fit state to be interviewed.

Thom, in light of the gate IEDs,

we're declaring this a major incident.

I've got a call with DACSO in 30 minutes.

Have you ever seen anything like this before?

Not like this, no, Sir.

Any thoughts who might be behind this, and why?

You should see this. What is it?

It's a link from HQ.

It's all over the Internet.

Since the attack, there's been mass panic on Twitter.

It's gonna hit the news channels any minute.

We need to prioritise locating the drone pilot site.

That should offer us forensics, CCTV, witnesses.

Batra, was there anything on the video itself that could help us?

The account is registered under a series of false names.

We can't look at the IP either.

This is clearly a sophisticated terrorist attack.

Power stations are robust.

It would take skill, technical knowledge,

to pull something like this off.

We're gonna have politicians

and the Commissioner breathing down our necks.

Let's speak to the security services, see if they can help.

Any groups that have used similar wording in videos,

both at home and overseas.

Also, anything they have on terrorist groups using drones.

We've already received tip-offs about drones being piloted nearby.

If you look at the footage from the drone,

looks like the drone flew in from the west.

If that drone operates on line of sight,

then the pilot would need an elevated position.

So that means we're looking somewhere in that corridor there.

Well, in that zone, we've had one sighting

of a drone being launched from an abandoned multistorey car park.

Crayford Place car park.

Yeah, someone called it in about an hour ago. An anonymous tip.

We're trying to trace the call. There it is.

I want forensics there.

I want an outside inquiry team there now.

They need to be able to get in

once firearms and EXPO have cleared it. OK?

'To all units, we have a report

'of movement within the car park.

'Approach with caution.'

We understand the car park is derelict...

We believe the drone pilot used this building.

He would have been based on the roof.

Head to the top of the building. EXPO will be running support.

Our priority is to gather evidence, but be prepared to find and detain.

Post a guard on the ground floor in case anyone tries to run.

Where's the access point? It's over there, Sir. Thank you.

So, you and John. Best buds now, are you?

As if. I got lumped with him.

I actually wanted to work with Hass whilst you were away,

but they allocated me to John.

I guess he thinks it's cool to be mates now.

Hm. He's playing Hass, Lana.

He's got HR eating out of the palm of his hands.

I'm sorry, because you were lumbered with him, and that's my fault.

Don't mention it.

You stay down here. I'm gonna go with Hass.

If I need you, I'll give you a call. Ready?

I'll hold the fort down here, OK? You ready?

Follow me. Awkward.

Have you told her?

About us.

Now?

'Trojan four to central eight-five,

'we are proceeding with our ascent to check and clear car park levels.'

Armed police! Stop!

'Trojan nine. Possible contact in the tenth floor stairwell.'

This floor, come on.

Don't, don't! I've got a baby!

Are you the only ones in this car park?

Seen any other rough sleepers?

Where? There's an old man, he's covered in cardboard,

and then a few others come and go.

Have you seen anyone new in the last 12 hours?

A stranger?

Right.

Trojan four to central eight-five, we have a family on floor ten.

Request back-up.

We are now ascending to the next level.

So you're back on the team, then? Should never have been off it.

That it? No apology?

Got nothing to apologise for. Said some stuff.

Made some mistakes.

Mistakes? Yeah, just like you.

Although I didn't screw a terrorist, did I?

Or "ex-squaddie with a grievance," as I prefer to call him.

One step out of line, John...

Everything's been running all right while you've been away.

Hass is a top senior. Knows his stuff. Very respectful.

As for me and Danny, we're getting on like an 'ouse on fire.

In fact, I'm planning his stag do.

We're a great team.

So why the fuck are you back?

I'm your superior officer, John.

No, you're not superior to me in any way. Do you understand?

You've not changed at all, have you? Neither have you.

Six months away, and it's done nothing for you, has it?

You're still fucked. I know it, and so do they.

How's she doing?

Wash.

Ready for duty? Fighting fit? EXPO Rahim.

Sir. Fill me in.

CTSFO are going floor to floor, heading to the roof, Sir.

Any joy? Sir, I don't know yet. Very good.

Central eight-five, received. We've got civilians up there.

How many? Er, two adults and a baby, possibly more on other levels,

so I need you to clear the floor and I need you to find a holding area.

Yes, Sir. Shouldn't you interrogate them?

We'll question them, but first priority is clearing the building.

And I think for your own safety you should stay down here, Sir.

Let's go?

'Trojan one to central eight-five.

'We are proceeding to the roof.

'EXPO two and Trojan four are checking level 11.'

OK. Thanks.

Hey, get a message to Gold Commander.

Telecoms intel says car park tip-off

came from a burner phone purchased yesterday.

Could be a trap.

'Control to all units.

'New intel has been acquired about the anonymous phone tip-off.

'Proceed with extreme caution.'

Bolt cutters.

'Central eight-five, this is Trojan one.

'We are proceeding with roof recon

'using extreme caution, as instructed.'

'Copy that.

'Possible IED threat detected by Trojan four on the floor below you.

'EXPO two investigating.'

That's it. I'm nearly there. Just stay still.

Trip wire, Wash?

Take it that's a no, yeah, dunno...

Nothing! EXPO seven, clear.

'IED threat is a false alarm on car park level 11.'

'Clear.'

Trojan one to central eight-five. No visuals.

'Copy that. Hold your position.'

There's just a bit of wire, mate.

Sometimes it gets caught in your clothes and your boots.

Guys, you're not meant to be up here yet.

Sorry. What's that?

Could be a drone controller. I'll get it.

No. Nobody touch anything.

Right, everybody needs to get back. Move!

Just hold on a minute, mate.

What the fuck's that?

No!

Lana!

I think I've... I think I've stood on something.

Don't move.

Don't move an inch.

Get back! Get back now!

Thom?

Lana, do something.

I'm coming. Stay still. Stay really, really still.

EXPO two, we have contact.

IED contact. Wait out.

'Copy that. We're on our way. We're coming.'

No. Nobody comes out here. That is an order.

I heard, erm, like a noisy clack underneath my, er, right foot.

Stay still for me, yeah?

Tell me. You're standing on a pressure plate.

When you step on it, it activates.

When you step off it... Oh, my God!

Don't move. Helen, Helen!

Don't move.

Oh, my God.

They're everywhere. What?

We're in the middle of a fucking minefield.

Lana, talk to me.

Lana, are you OK?

Lana?

Danny, get back, get back!

The officer triggered a device.

John got caught in the blast. They're dead.

I'm coming over.

Hass, Thom's stepped on a device, too.

He steps off, he'll activate. Just stay where you are.

How many IEDs? I don't know.

Helen? Yeah? I need you to make your way to the door.

OK. Just move really slowly, really carefully.

Don't step on the cardboard, and just stick to the concrete, OK?

Go. Yeah.

Go. Go. It's fine.

Helen.

Stay with me. Come on.

You're doing great. That's... That's good.

Good, good. One more step.

Good. That's it. You're nearly there.

Yeah. Well done. There you go. There you go.

OK, everyone back, back.

I can help. Hass, no.

Danny, keep the door clear.

All right. You've got to move back, all right?

What about Thom? No, Lana has got the situation in hand.

Let's go. That's it. There you go. It's OK.

There we go. Just gonna take a seat.

There you go. You OK? You all right?

It's gonna be OK. It's gonna be OK.

She's the best. Yeah. Deep breath.

Danny? Danny.

Just keep an eye on her.

You all right?

You OK? No. I'm shaking. My whole fucking body's shaking.

I know. You just need to breathe. OK.

Deep breaths. Deep breaths.

OK? Fuck. Listen, listen, listen.

Just go. Go. You should take your opportunity and go.

I'm not going anywhere. I don't want anything to happen to you.

Please, please, just go. Thom, I don't think...

Go now! Nothing's gonna happen to me.

Listen to me. I'm in control, OK? OK, OK.

All right? Just shut up. Yeah.

You need to be still! You're stood on a bomb. Yeah.

Do you trust me? Yes.

Yeah. Yes, of course I do. I'm in charge.

I know what I'm doing. Yeah.

I'm gonna neutralise the device, OK? OK.

Just stay still. OK.

Right.

OK. Oh, God.

Really still, and we'll be out of here, OK?

Oh, OK.

I just need to cut back some cardboard... OK, OK.

..and then I just need you to stay really still.

Lana, I'm so sorry.

Now is not the time for apologies. We shouldn't be here.

This is my fucking fault. Thom. Thom...

I should have fucking never walked up here. So fucking stupid!

Thom! You're getting irate and you're moving, OK? OK, OK.

Please just stay still. I know.

The more you move... Yeah, I know, I know.

This is not the time for a meltdown.

OK, I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry. I'm not gonna let you die.

I'm not gonna let that happen... You're right, you're right.

..cos I love you.

I always have. I always will. Nothing'll ever change that.

So I'm not letting you go anywhere, all right?

Doing great.

You just need to give me a bit more time. Right.

Just 60 seconds, that's all I need.

Just let me... let me get under this cardboard,

and then we're out of here. OK?

Er, Sir, Sir, you shouldn't be up here. It's too dangerous.

DS Morgan, sitrep? Sir.

Streaming now.

I'm nearly there. I'm nearly there.

I can't breathe. I can't breathe. You can.

I'm fucking panicking. I'm panicking, I'm panicking.

I can't breathe. Can you feel my hand? Yeah.

Yeah? Feel it? Yeah.

Where's your other hand? That's it.

Bring them together.

Not cos I need you to pray.

It'll just keep you steady. OK.

Stop shaking. I'm here.

That's it. OK.

Yeah? Doing great. OK.

Just breathe.

Nearly there.

Lana... did you...

..did you mean that, what you said?

Of course I did.

Why couldn't you have said that six months ago?

Can you see what I'm dealing with? Yeah, sorry, sorry.

I'm fucking scared. I'm scared.

Well, guess what, Thom? I'M scared. Sorry. Sorry, sorry, sorry.

I'm at the wire, Thom.

Right, you're gonna have to be really, really still now, OK?

I'm going in.

There we go.

That should be it.

OK.

We're good. We're good. You're gonna step off now.

Trust me.

Trust me? Come on. All right, all right. That's it.

That's it.

That was close. Yeah.

That was close.

You're all right.

OK. I need to... Yeah.

Can't be dealing with this shit.

OK... Right.

I will fucking get these guys, Lana.

Swear on my fucking life.

What the fuck is that?

Thom, get down! Thom, what are you doing?

Quick!

Hey, are you OK? Another drone attack.

EXPO eight, there's been another drone attack.

Make your way towards me. Careful. Careful where you tread.

I thought I'd lost you. I thought you were dead.

Thom, are you OK? Yes, Sir.

He's moving now. He's heading down.

Er, OK. Helen, call it in. Call it in. Sir.

Sorry, Sir, you can't go out there. It's not safe.

Is that it? That's it, that's it.

Central three-five.

All units to Tennyson Tower, Rotherhithe. Suspect is on the move.

Detain anyone exiting the block. Put me through to the control room.
