=Episode 24=

(Morning Dew Pavilion)

Why came to see me

so late at night?

Aunt, I came bearing good news.

Good news?

I can control the Sang family soon.

Control them?

Sang Wei is now incarcerated.

Why not seize this opportunity

to eliminate the entire Sang family?

Are you still

worried about your Sang Qi?

Sang Wei is a revered veteran in the armies.

Even if we get rid of him,

someone else will take over the military.

That will do us no good.

What do you propose?

Sang Qi is Grand Commandant Sang's daughter

as well as his Achilles' heel.

If I can use this opportunity to marry Sang Qi,

then

the Sang family and I will be on the same boat.

Fearing for the safety

of her daughter, Grand Commandant Sang

will

have to do our bidding.

How sure are you of this plan?

Don't worry, Aunt.

Everything is ready. We just need a trigger.

I need your help, Aunt.

How?

(Notice)

(Sang Wei was found guilty of salt smuggling) Who is that?

-Blackmarket salt. -Salt smuggling.

Sang Wei was found guilty of smuggling salt.

He is a great sinner to the nation and its people

and shall be executed soon.

Grand Commandant Sang is the hero who defends our border.

How can he let money cloud his judgment?

It's not fair.

Did they investigate properly?

They must be mistaken.

(Muyan Pavilion)

Qi.

What happened?

The imperial court dismissed

all our servants and workers.

They want us to leave within three days.

Deputy Chief, Master is...

Don't worry, Qi.

I'll find a way to enter the palace

and talk to His Majesty.

(Agarwood) Young Master!

(Muyan Pavilion)

We received a royal decree.

His Majesty wants you...

to marry Miss Su.

Master wants you to go back to accept the royal decree.

It's okay, Qi.

Lian Pian, take care of your Young Lady.

I'll be back soon.

Yan Yan, guard the entrance.

Defend Grand Commandant's Residence.

Noted.

(Muyan Pavilion)

(Royal Decree)

The eunuch delivering the decree has left.

Why are you this late?

Master.

Qi Lang, it's a marriage arranged by His Majesty.

You should feel honored.

Why are you frowning?

We should prepare everything as soon as possible.

I will get some expensive gifts

and we'll visit the Su Residence together.

No.

I have another priority.

I cannot marry Su Jie Yu.

You!

Are you going to defy the royal decree?

Qi Lang,

this is not a trivial matter.

Grand Commandant Sang is in great danger.

I can't just turn a blind eye to it.

Once I clear his name,

I will deal with the marriage.

Can't you see?

His Majesty pronounced Grand Commandant Sang's sentence himself.

He won't retract his statement easily.

I worked with Grand Commandant Sang in the imperial court for many years.

Do you think I haven't petitioned

for a lighter sentence?

When there's a will, there's a way.

I will try again.

You!

Qi Lang!

The conviction of Grand Commandant

and the sudden marriage arrangement

came overnight.

This is not a coincidence.

Someone wants to push us to a corner.

It seems like we can do nothing about it.

Qi.

I'm here.

I will find a way to save Grand Commandant Sang.

Even if it's a marriage arranged by His Majesty,

I will not leave you.

You want to defy the royal decree?

Qi.

You're finally here.

Everything is of your doing, isn't it?

You overestimated me.

I'm just one of Noble Consort's kin.

I can't influence His Majesty's decision.

Judging from your crestfallen look,

Yan Yun Zhi must be too scared to defy the royal decree.

So much for loving you.

Now,

he's busy saving himself.

I won't let him

go against His Majesty anyway.

My heart belongs to Yan Yun Zhi

only.

Despite knowing this,

do you still want to marry me?

It used to bother me.

But now, I don't care anymore.

I just want you by my side.

If I marry you,

will my father be freed?

Will Yan Yun Zhi be safe too?

Of course.

All right.

I'll marry you.

Qi.

You have finally made the right decision.

I promise

to never ever let you down.

I already gave you my word.

Can you save my father?

Be patient.

Once we're married,

I'll clear Grand Commandant's name.

He will be sent back to the residence

safe and sound.

Zhuo Wen Yuan.

If you dare lie to me,

I'll never let you off.

Qi,

you broke my heart.

We've known each other for years.

Have I ever reneged

on any promise?

Okay.

I'll believe you this time.

Why are you still sulking?

We're about to get married.

You should cheer up.

I heard Grand Commandant's Residence had been confiscated.

I will use my connections

to keep your residence.

And then,

I'll send someone over to help you get ready

so that you can marry into Zhuo family properly.

I regret meeting you.

Young Master.

Prepare the bridewealth now.

Keep your eyes on Sang Qi before the ceremony.

Report to me

if there's anything unusual.

Noted.

Zhuo Wen Yuan is a romantic.

The Sang family has fallen from grace.

Grand Commandant Sang is sentenced to death.

Everyone avoids them like a plague

but he still went to marry Sang Qi.

There's one thing I don't understand.

Why isn't Deputy Chief intervening?

I thought he and Sang Qi

were supposed to get married.

I heard His Majesty arranged Miss Su for Deputy Chief.

Even if he loves Sang Qi deeply,

he can't defy the royal decree, can he?

That said,

Miss Su and Deputy Chief look good together.

You're right.

Let's go.

Please calm down.

Don't stoop to their level.

Who cares about what they said?

I'm mad at Sang Qi.

She's just here to piss me off.

She took away my husband again.

Now,

Yan Yun Zhi and Su Jie Yu are about to get married.

Everyone has a partner

while I'm still single.

It's just like the old saying,

great beauty always suffers from misfortune.

I don't get Sang Qi's charm.

Young Master Zhuo is so smitten by her,

almost enchanted.

Besides,

she's the daughter of a criminal.

Why would the Zhuo family make a grand event out of it?

Sang Qi is my nemesis.

I'm the way I am now

all thanks to her.

If I see her again,

I'll dice her into a million pieces.

Yin.

It's Sang Qi.

Speak of the devil!

What do you want?

Stop playing dumb.

First, you took my Yan Yun Zhi.

Now, you snatched my Zhuo Wen Yuan.

Why do you always take the suitors away from me?

You just don't want me to be happy, do you?

What happened?

What's going on?

Song Jia Yin.

We're in the public. I don't want to argue with you.

I have enough problems.

Don't want to ruin your image?

Let's find another spot then.

Let's go.

Song Jia Yin, let go of her.

Are they fighting?

Lian Pian.

Fine, we'll talk.

Just wait for me here.

Don't worry.

My Young Lady won't do anything to Song Jia Yin.

Just wait here patiently.

You...

Sang Qi.

Why do you keep taking my future husband away from me?

You think I wanted to?

Sang Qi.

Don't play the victim.

What are you doing?

Want to hit me because you can't argue back?

Don't be afraid.

I'm here to discuss something.

(Grand Commandant's Residence)

What makes you think

that you can stop me?

Official Yan.

My Young Master

said no outsider is allowed to enter

Grand Commandant's Residence until the ceremony tomorrow.

Your Young Master is nosy.

(Grand Commandant's Residence) I do not see "Zhuo" written anywhere here.

Besides, I'm not an outsider.

I'm almost half a Sang.

I will go in no matter what.

Who dares to stop me?

If this is your wish, Mr. Yan,

then pardon my aggression.

Yan Yan!

Don't cause a scene.

Me?

They are the main instigator here.

Young Lady is already in a bad mood.

Please don't bring more trouble to her.

I just want to know

what happened to Sang Qi.

Is she marrying Zhuo Wen Yuan for real?

One has to be obedient when trapped in an inferior situation.

(Grand Commandant's Residence) She has no choice.

It's the Yan family's fault that Sang Qi is involved.

Or else, she wouldn't be where she is now.

Enough talking.

Just head back.

Young Lady doesn't have much appetite these days.

I need to look after her.

Okay.

Please take good care of Sang Qi.

(Grand Commandant's Residence)

Just go.

(Grand Commandant's Residence)

Miss Sang, you're heading out?

Just to get some air.

But it's late now.

It might be dangerous.

So I already have rules to follow

before I marry him?

Don't get me wrong, Miss Sang.

This is not what I mean.

(Imperial College)

Lian Pian.

Just wait for me here.

I'll get in alone.

Okay.

(Imperial College)

Deputy Chief.

I'm getting married tomorrow.

We need to behave appropriately.

In that case,

why did you come here?

You can't let go of our love,

but why won't you admit it?

I'm just taking a walk.

Well,

I'll leave then.

Qi.

I swore in front of Yu's tomb

that I would spend my life protecting you.

But now, Grand Commandant Sang is framed.

Zhuo Wen Yuan forced you to marry him.

I can't just do nothing.

Qi.

Our path in front might be rocky,

but we can face it together.

I won't let go of you.

Rest early, Deputy Chief.

If you're not going to say it,

then let's settle this with swords.

You still remember the sword techniques I taught you, don't you?

Let's compete tonight.

The winner

can make the loser do one thing.

If you win,

you can leave.

I won't keep you.

If you lose,

you have to follow my order.

I will give my all today.

That's the situation.

Miss Sang seems to have made up her mind

and Yan Yun Zhi proceeded to get wasted.

I don't think he'll sober up tomorrow.

during the ceremony tomorrow.

Get ready for any situation.

Young Lady, it's time

to get on the carriage now.

(Double Happiness)

Now!

Who are you?

How dare you attempt

to infiltrate an official's residence in broad daylight?

Retreat.

Save your words for the court.

Arrest all of them.

What are you afraid of?

I will bear

Should you disobey my order,

you'll have to answer to the law.

Move now!

Forgive me, everyone.

That's insidious, Yan Xiao Lang!

Deputy Chief Yan, to congratulate me,

you can come to the wedding ceremony.

Today is an important day for Qi and me.

I don't want to witness

any discord.

Deputy Chief Yan, behave yourself.

Zhuo Wen Yuan,

you forced Sang Qi to marry you with dirty tricks.

I won't let you have your way.

Deputy Chief Yan.

Qi said yes to my proposal.

I didn't force her to marry me.

You must still be inebriated from the wine yesterday.

Someone,

help Deputy Chief Yan move aside so that he can rest.

Yes!

I knew this would happen.

Come with me, Sang Qi!

Sang Qi!

Did you forget what you said?

Are you truly willing to marry Zhuo Wen Yuan?

Don't worry, Young Lady.

I'll deal with it for you.

Deputy Chief, Young Lady wants you to go back.

Don't force the impossible.

Yan Yun Zhi, it's futile.

Young Master.

A band of thugs tried to infiltrate your residence.

They have been deterred by our guards.

Deputy Chief, no wonder you are stalling here.

You planned

to distract me when I let my guard down.

Ingenious your plan may be,

you'll still end up like this.

Qi,

Yan Yun Zhi's plan has been foiled.

You can now be my wife in peace.

Zhuo Wen Yuan!

Yan Yun Zhi.

You keep getting in my way.

Now that you have been captured,

Young Master Zhuo.

It's a festive day. No need to get riled up.

I won't blame you for today.

I just want

is more than I could ever ask for.

You finally understood?

I know we haven't gone through the ritual yet,

but I can't wait to see you already.

We...

Can we disregard

the formality for a moment?

Just let me look at you.

You?

Surprise, my dear husband.

I am destined to be your wife.

We are finally together now.

Where's my Sang Qi?

Don't be mad.

Now that we're married,

I'll open up to you.

I can tell you the truth,

but you can't be angry at me.

Speak!

When Yan Yun Zhi tried to stop the carriage,

it was the happiest moment

of my life.

I didn't even know

that one day, Yan Yun Zhi and you

would vie for my attention.

Honestly,

I was touched at that moment.

You promised not to get angry.

When did you two swap?

In front of Grand Commandant's Residence.

Where's Sang Qi?

How would I know?

She didn't tell me.

My husband.

You said you wanted us

to love each other unconditionally.

Is that true?

Young Master, Wei Zhan Hong is gone.

So it's you guys.

Sang Qi, did you bring me here

to kill me

and avenge your father?

Wei Zhan Hong, we used to be classmates.

We never crossed each other.

Why did you frame my father?

Sang Qi. Stop that innocent act.

If Yan Yun Zhi and you didn't chase after us

till Jingzhou,

my father wouldn't have been killed by the guards.

You killed my father.

You are my sworn enemy.

I laid low for a long time,

waiting for a good opportunity.

And God is by my side!

My time for retribution is here.

So you took it out on my father?

Yes.

I want you to feel the pain

of a broken family.

You are very honest.

You have me captured.

Kill me if you want.

I had my vengeance. I can die without regret.

Wei Zhan Hong.

You wanted to avenge your father

but you ended up being someone's pawn.

Do you know that your father

was killed by Xizhao?

Impossible.

Impossible!

Think.

Who

is the biggest benefactor of your father's demise?

Did you really assume

that Official Wei and you can get out scot-free?

Wei Zhan Hong, if you can tell us the truth,

you will be spared from the death penalty.

We will request a lighter sentence from His Majesty.

Official Zhuo.

Grand Tutor.

Pardon my daughter's

mischief today.

I have spoiled her too much.

Miss Song is just a victim of deception.

But now...

But now,

we can only carry on.

Grand Tutor,

it's inappropriate to let Miss Song become the sacrificial lamb.

Not at all!

I'm happy to marry into the Zhuo family.

Don't worry. My father is...

I know

this mess is out of line,

but

since you have

already taken my daughter here in such a pompous manner,

you can't just ask her to go back like that.

If not,

how would others view me

in the imperial court?

Also,

the Empress Dowager

has been meaning to pair you and my daughter.

Why don't we make the best out of this occasion

and please everyone?

But Grand Tutor, I think...

I'll leave

Jia Yin to your care.

I will prepare the dowry later

and have it sent here.

Now that we're a family,

we have to exercise

our duty too.

Wen Yuan.

Look.

Come.

Many people are waiting for us in front.

Let's greet them.

- Grand Tutor! - Come.

But Grand Tutor...

- Grand Tutor... - Young Master.

Grand Tutor.

Young Master, I got news from the palace.

His Majesty interrogated Wei Zhan Hong.

Noble Consort asks for your presence now.

(Imperial Study)

That's the truth

of this matter.

So you don't know

who's behind everything?

Not an inkling.

When my father was still alive,

he never said he was in contact with anyone.

After I was rescued,

I was kept in a house.

I wasn't allowed to go out.

And when someone brought me food,

I couldn't see the face either.

After they sent you back to Bianjing,

why did they ask you to find Zhuo Wen Yuan?

They asked me to find my classmate for help.

I couldn't trust Song Luo Tian

so I didn't go to him.

Zhuo Wen Yuan is the highest-ranking official among my classmates,

so I paid him a visit.

He was apprised of the urgent nature

of this matter,

so he took my testimony.

You know that

Zhuo Wen Yuan and I are good friends for many years.

Weren't you worried that he might refuse to report this case?

I knew it.

That's why

I didn't Zhuo Wen Yuan everything.

He knew

I was to denounce the culprit behind the salt smuggling,

but he didn't know I'd frame Grand Commandant Sang.

Are you saying

that Zhuo Wen Yuan has nothing to do with the culprit?

Yes.

Zhuo Wen Yuan just started working.

He was eager

to prove himself and so he made a mistake.

Wei Zhan Hong.

Is this everything you know?

Lying will only make your guilt worse.

This is your last chance.

Think it through.

At this point,

I have no reason to lie.

Also, before the exile,

my father kept a secret ledger.

You might be able to find something from it.

Where is it?

My father told me its location

before the exile.

I will bring you there.

I have already confessed everything.

Have mercy, Your Majesty.

Keep Wei Zhan Hong in the cell

and wait for my sentence.

Your Majesty!

Yan,

you'll be in charge of the investigation.

Wei Zhan Hong

will be kept in the Prefecture Court.

Corroborate the facts once you get the ledger.

If Grand Commandant Sang is innocent,

then we should release him immediately.

Yes, Your Majesty.

Your Majesty.

I would like to ask for a favor.
