Most cichlids, they're hardy,
And they're easy to care for.

So they're the easiest fish
To take care of.

I'm assuming, since you've
Already got fresh-water,

You guys are looking to do
A fresh-water aquarium?

On top of a steel stand,
We'll build a corner tank

With a concave bend --
An atm first.

Inside, the yellow brick road
Will travel to munchkinland,

Emerald city,
And the haunted forest.

Then after we add
300 gallons of fresh water,

We'll have a mix
Of 50 compatible fish

That will highlight
The magical-land-of-oz theme.

Brett: the dr. Oz aquarium
Is a unique aquarium.

This is something that
We've never really done before.

The shop jumped right in
To mold the front panel

And to get it glued.

Can't snap that.
Don't snap that.

All together, these panels
Weigh over 400 pounds.

Redneck: tilt down
Just a little bit, chuy.

It's not an easy task
To assemble this.

Red, before we glue it, man,

Check sure make sure chuy's
Got the angle right.

Getting the angles to glue
Just right at 90° is difficult

When working
With curved panels.

The pressure pushes them out.

Since the front panel
Curves inward,

The seams can blow out
From the water pressure

If it's not glued properly.

But after 24 hours,
The sides were bonded,

Tested, and fish-safe.

So, now we can start creating
The underwater world of oz.

I love getting to shop
For fresh-water fish.

Actually, a red pigeon
Blood discus.

-they're so beautiful.

There are so many
Different strains of discus,

And they're bred
All over the world.

The ones that people really like
Are the ones from vietnam.

They breed the prettiest
Different varieties.

That's where we got
These ones from.

And you should see, they have
Ones with, like, blues,

And you put, like,
A whole variety in --

It is sick.

Agnes:
Those are large already.

Do they get much bigger?

They actually do.

You can probably get
A discus about this size.

They're so peaceful.
Do they always swim around?

Like, they're just
So elegant.

What you see is exactly

What you're going to
Have in your tank,

So it's like having
Living art.

Wow.Do they get along

With other fish?

When people keep discus,
You keep discus

Because of the price, the color,
And the amount of effort

It takes
To make its environment --

These guys love warm water,

So bath time for them

Is like 83° to 86°.
Wow.

People shy away from putting
Anything else with them.

Oh, so you would just put
The discus in there?

-discus or discus.

The normal temperature
For a fresh-water tank

Is 76° to 80°.

So, dr. Oz's

Won't be warm enough
For these guys.

Wow. Those
Are really cool.

They have to stay with discus.

And so, as people started

They started noticing, like,
"Hey, that one's pretty."

And, like,
"That one's pretty, too,

And maybe we can make
More pretty ones."

So, are there different
Types now?

Yeah.
There's the high-fin,

And then
There's long-fin.

And these fish are produced
In asia as well as florida,

Where we get
Most of our fish from.

-oh, wow.
-well, those are very cool.

What do they eat?

They eat a very basic diet
Of flake,

But they like insects.

So, in the wild they'd be
Eating on, like, larvae

Or, like, mosquitos.

Well, let's look
At another tank.

I got one more fish

That I know you'll love
For this tank.

It's a burmese
Boarder botia.

-burmese...
-border botia.

-border botia.
-and he's yellow.

-he's yellow.
-and he's got bricks.

Yes!
I love it!

They were discovered
Back in 2002.

That's crazy that new fish
Are being discovered.

All the time.

And it's a really great fish
To have in a tank

Because it doesn't swim
In the same tank space.

So, since they hang out at the
Bottom and they're scavengers,

They'll catch any food
That's missed by the guys up top

As well as deal with
Any snail problems

You might have
In your tank.

Plus the fact that we'll have
Swimming fish

At each level of the tank,
Which is always nice.

Absolutely.

We always work to pick
A variety of fish

That swim at different levels

To keep the tank
Looking active

And full at all times.

So, we look for bottom dwellers
Who like to clean and rummage

Amongst the gravel,

Schools that
Will fill the middle,

And active, curious fish

Who will explore
Near the surface.

This way, all your fish aren't
Competing for the same space.

They love
To be in schools,

So if you keep
Five or more,

They'll actually hang
With each other in the tank

And travel
In little packs.

And since
They don't get too big,

It's like the munchkins.

Ohhh!Oh, I love it.

I do love that.

Well, I think we have
A great selection for this tank.
