Which is a coral

They cut them into small pieces
And actually sell them.

This saves the environment

So they're not going

They're actually
Growing it at home,

Which is great for conservation.

People come from all over.

I mean, we're gonna probably see
Anywhere from 500

To 1,000 people
Throughout the day.

Today, we probably have
Somewhere in the neck

Of 30 different vendors.

There's just a lot
Of cool people here.

There's everything
From fish food to products

To live coral to fish.
You name it --

Serving underprivileged youth

These are my buddies.

So, what these guys did is,
They have grown big pieces,

And what they do is,
People come from all over,

And a lot of these
Are really rare.

And I can touch them,
And they won't bite me?

Because these corals
Aren't gonna sting him,

These are pretty rare.

All this stuff is all grown.
It's all captive.

We 100% aquaculture
Everything,

So we're not taking stuff in
And out of the ocean, you know?

So it's all -- basically
Everything's homegrown.

It can range

All the way up
To like $1,000.

Red leather boxing glove facade.

We'll build the front
Of the tank

To make it match
The curves of the gloves,

And we'll put vargas's logo
Right in the center.

Saltwater fish,

And his son really wants
A harlequin tusk,

And with 450 gallons,
There's plenty of room.

So, don't you think it's
Gonna be a total knockout?

First step -- we have

Make the aquarium

In the shape
Of a boxing glove.

In setting up a reef tank,
And I asked victor to help us.

About setting up
A reef tank.

You have a few years?

I know it's a very
Intricate process, but...

So you kind of want
A crash course?

-first thing that you always do

Is you acclimate it. You want to
Set it inside the tank, okay,

And let it float around.
About 30 minutes.

-just like fish, right?
-just like fish.

What you also need
To do is to check

And see what the ph
Level is, okay?

Ph levels have to be
A little higher on reef tanks.

The higher the better.

What happens if I put
This little guy in,

And the ph
Was too low, you know?

It would slowly
Deteriorate and die.

-aw.
-yeah.

So that's why
It's very important

To make sure the ph level
Is checked

Pretty much daily.

What we're gonna do is,
We're gonna actually have to put

This high-range ph in there

To see what
It comes out to be.

And then you count, one,
Two, three, four, five.

One, two,
Three, four, five.

All right, awesome.
And then you shake it up.

Actually sucking up the ph.

For a little,
Small tank like this,

Just a little cap full like this
Is more than enough, okay?

Now you watch the action on it
As I pour it into the water.

That's the action of the water
Being diluted with the buffer.

To let it cycle through.

So now we just got
To let it cycle through

For about an hour or so.

It's solid,

And they're ready to start
Gluing it all together.

So I like to teach him
The ropes from the beginning

So we don't make any mistakes,

And it doesn't cost
A lot of money.

Come on. We got to go show you
About gluing. Come on.

Each panel's
A little different than others,

-so I want to teach you.

Going a little crazy
On this thing, huh?

When the piece comes
Out of the oven,

It has to be cut exactly,
So when it comes out,

And you're ready to glue,
Everything lines up.

Listen, what we do
Is we do a template.

We mark everything
On the template,

And then we know exactly
Where to cut everything.

They're gonna wipe this down,
Get all the impurities out.

If you left any of that dust
And dirt on there,

It'll trap the oxygen

And give you bubbles
Throughout the whole piece.

And once it's prepped, you
Never touch it with your hands.

Because of the oils?

The oil will sit there,
And it traps the bubbles,

And you can't get them out
Once you're gluing.

So they prep it with tape.

They make a little channel
That holds the glue.

Then they lower it down.

The seam sits in that channel,
And it glues.

See these clamps we made?
They're cut out

So the glue doesn't stick
To that in the piece.

They're easy to pop off
All the way down.

So now this piece matches
This angle exactly.

This is gonna sit and dry.

And once this dries,
We're gonna take it and flip it

And do the same thing
On this seam.

When you do that side,

That's the last
And one shot you got to do,

'cause if you mess that up,
You got to redo everything.

It's not as easy
As everybody thinks.

Mike: we got a problem.
Working on vargas,

And the wet/dry and the chiller
Won't fit underneath the stand.

Trying to puzzle-piece it in.
It's not gonna fit.

We're building
A boxing-glove tank

For world champ fernando vargas.

It's going in his gym
Here in vegas

Where he trains
Underprivileged youth.

The acrylic has been
Glued together,

And we painted the tank blue to
Give it an endless ocean effect.

And we decided to replicate
Fernando's first belt medallion

As a surprise for him
Inside the tank.

And finally, heather and I
Are water-testing

The leather we picked out
For the glove facade

To see which one will work best.

So, let's leave it here for
A while, and we'll come back.

The wet/dry and the chiller
Are part of the plumbing

And life-support system.

It filters out toxic
Ammonia and nitrates.

Then it sends clean filtered
Water back into the tank.

And the chiller keeps the water
Cooled in this vegas heat.

So, we built it to have
An internal skimmer.

So the skimmer's
Gonna go on the wet/dry.

But as you can tell, there's
Just not enough room.

All right, you know what? Pull
All the equipment out for now.

Okay.

Through the side.

I can't see how all
This is gonna fit.

It's not.

We got too much stuff to go
In there and not enough room.

The chiller outside?

Well, the only way
To put it outside would be,

You'd have to drill

Or run the pipes along
The floor to the outside,

Gonna work in the gym,

With the kids running around,
All the piping on the floor.

Agnes: at the frag swap, I was
Inspired to get a piece of coral

And try fragging,

And I asked our resident
Frag expert

To help me cut
My first piece of coral.

Heather, how's it coming along?

Perfect timing.
I'm checking it right now.

I know, I brought
Big mike with me.

-the ph was low.

We added buffer,
And now...

-it's perfect!
-...It is lookin' pretty good.

-that's where you want it.

So, you know, big mike
Was at the frag swap,

And he's the expert
Of experts of fragging.

Fragging is a responsible way
To raise corals.

You can share and grow
Many new pieces of coral

While keeping
Your mother colony.

This process allows us to pull

Fewer and fewer pieces
From the ocean.

So what do we got to do?

We've got to cut it.

-does that not hurt it?
-nope.

As long as you do it gentle
And you cut in the right spot.

These are frag plugs.

So when we cut the coral,
We'll glue the frags onto here.

You find a little spot
In the rock

And stick them in there.

How do you know
Where it's safe to cut?

It all depends on the coral.
All corals have mouths.

So some corals, you don't want
To cut through the mouth.

-you've got to cut around it.
-this is a birdsnest coral.

So on this one,
If you look,

Every one of those
Little circles,

Every one of those dots,

Each one of those
Is a mouth.

Wait, so all the little white
Parts here or all the dots?

All the dots. And those
Are all the individual mouths

That actually feed the colony.

It has so many mouths.

Where do you cut it without
Cutting, like, a mouth?

There's so many mouths on here,
And it's such a large colony

That this one,
You can actually cut

Through the mouth,
And it's fine,

And it will continue
To grow and thrive.

-wow.
-okay, so what we have to do

Is we have to find
A good spot.

You want to have
A nice, good surface

When you glue it
To the frag plug.

-what we're gonna do is,

We're just gonna take
A little bit of our glue.

Gonna put some right there.

And there we go.

Now we can take this

And put it anywhere
In the tank.

Before this starts growing?

Leather swatches in salt water

To see if they would
Get damaged.

And the color has changed.

It's all wrinkled,

To form the glove
That we're looking for.

So we let him and his team

They stuffed it
And got it looking great.

Also, we sent the bottom portion
To the printers

So that they could add on
Fernando's logo for the base.

And then another ring on top.

That several fish
Get at the bottom of their body.

So, these rings
Are actually gonna fade

And become sprayed lines
That you see in the adult fish.

But it does grow to a full size
Of about a foot and a half,

More than one in?

At this age, maybe,
If you have a big tank.

But when they are adult fish,
They become more territorial.

'cause you know what it is?
He's the king of the tank,

So he's sort of like the champ.

And he's gonna beat you down.

Now, each one

They're actually molded
From real corals,

And we had to place them,
Hand-paint them,

And fit and make

To get that depth look
That you wanted.

We have over 30 different
Kinds of fish, guys.

There's a red one in there.
It's called a flame angel.

And those guys
Are pygmy angels.

And those guys are gonna be
The smallest of your angels

Inside the aquarium.

There's only one of those

So you can't put
Another one in there,

Because otherwise they'll fight.Oh, wow.

But what if we

From australia.

But the australian ones,

Have more vibrant orange,

And we think that the community
Is absolutely love it.
