I have a client, he has three
Amazing aquariums that he wants,

But he wants 'em all to be, you
Know, a little bit different.

So, I figured I would come here,
Get a little inspiration,

You guys
Could show me around.

We could take a look
At some of the exhibits

And get the creative juices
Flowing.

Absolutely.

Welcome to open ocean.

Right now, you're standing
In a 360° immersive environment

Surrounded by about
260,000 gallons of water.

16 acrylic panels
Make up this exhibit.

Just in this tank alone,

We've got about
400 animals living in here,

A variety of both pacific
And atlantic species.

Nice. I see
A couple of fish I know.

Zebrashark, couple
Of groupers, eagle ray.

Got some pretty cool stuff
In there.

Really like the way that
Coral formation is sitting.

Could we check that out
For a minute?

We've got some of those
Plate corals, the montiporas,

We've got the branching
Corals, acroporas.

We've got the gorgonian
Sea fans over there.

We really wanted to mix up
The textures and the colors,

So the blues, the reds,
The kind of bronze colors.

The rock work is that
Nice shelving rock

With lots of nooks
And crannies for our angels

And our snappers
To hide in down here.

It really makes for
A dynamic exhibit.

So, the next tank
That we're working with,

They're going to
Have a desk

Where the secretary's
Going to sit,

Where they greet people.

So, it's very contemporary,
Very modern.

I think our under river tank
Is going to be perfect for you.

It's got a lot of kind of
Plate rock shelves,

Really kind of clean-looking.

Our under river exhibit.

Nice. Pretty cool.

More immersive than this

Without getting wet.

We've got water above you,
Water next to you.

This is one of our largest
Freshwater exhibits,

Just shy
Of 20,000 gallons.

And missouri's known
For being the place
Where you can find

Two major rivers
Of the united states.

We've got the missouri river
And the mississippi river both.

We've got longnose gar,
Smallmouth bass,

Walleye, blue sucker,

All things that
Our local anglers

Will find
When they go fishing.

The rock structure's
Really, really cool, for sure.

We really went for those kind of
Craggy-looking split rocks

That, again, you'll find
In the riverbanks.

A walleye -- that's
A pretty cool fish right there.

Beautiful fish, too.

You can see those striping,
That kind of green-bronze look,

Really fits in with the whole
Color scheme of this exhibit.

We've got the smallmouth bass
That, of course, you can tell

Because of those
Tiger stripes, right,

Coming out of their eyes,
Across their cheeks.

We also have
A blue sucker in here,

Which is kind of
An unusual fish.

A lot of people
Don't know about it.

Gets to be about
2 or 3 feet long

And lives off
Of sucking the algae

Right off of the logs
And the rocks

That it lives amongst.

I kind of think we should show
You out out to sea exhibit.

-it's pretty impressive.
-absolutely.

It's right behind this way.

We've got four goliath groupers
In this exhibit.

So, this is what we call
Our out to sea exhibit.

So, as you can see, it's a whole
Variety of different animals.

Most of these are geared up
For the u.S. Gulf coast.

A lot of these animals
Came from florida,

Alabama, mississippi.

Everything in the rock work
Here is kind of modeled after

What we've got
Down in the u.S. Gulf coast.

So, it's a little bit lower
Profile, but bright colors.

Lots of places, again,
For the fish to hide
And move around.

I like the way
It's so big

And that there's not
An overabundance of coral.

It just gives the fish
Room to swim.

So, I think I'm going to kind
Of convey that idea to my team.

You know, maybe we can
Incorporate that

Into the office aquarium.

Thanks to my visit
To wonders of wildlife,

I got the game plan for
Two of these three tanks.

We'll make our reception desk
Amaze visitors

When they first walk
Into the building.

To make the desk functional,
We'll make the stand short

And make the tank
Only 36 inches tall.

We'll keep the inside
Minimalistic

By adding just a few rocks

And a simple but bold
Company logo on the
Back of the tank.

In the boardroom, we'll fill
The empty wall space

Between the meeting area
And the kitchen

With an 11-foot-long
Saltwater tank.

To streamline the design,

We'll insert one long,
Continuous coral island.

A variety of colorful fish will
Swim in the 800-gallon tank,

Ensuring no one gets bored
In the boardroom.

Brett's on a flight home

And it goes on a stand.

So, we're talking a lot of tank,
A lot of acrylic,

And a lot
Of water pressure.

My biggest problem
Is the lintel.

For the fireplace tank,

The tank is 8 feet tall
By 8 feet long.

We'll place a coral insert
On just one side,

Hiding our plumbing.

The 36-inch cut-out
On the bottom of the tank

Will give us the space
To insert our fire feature.

So, redneck is fabricating rocks
To give us this effect.

I figured I'd get some
Chunks of rock made up.

And then we can color 'em,
Paint 'em,

Whatever we need to do.

It might seem like a good idea
To take a rock from outside

And place it in your tank,

But there's a chance
That it could contain

Some harmful contaminants.

That's why we go
Through the trouble

To actually mold
These artificial rocks.

I blend in over this side.

The owner of the company loves
Green, all shades of green.

That's what
I'm trying to do,

Is give you that effect
Of light and dark streaks.

Look at that, dude.
It changes color with the light.

So, with the fish tank lights
And underwater,

It's going
To change color.

Yeah. It'll change
A little bit of color,

But also, as this dries,
It'll get darker.

I think that throughout
The tank,

You're going to get
The zen feeling

Through the whole office.

Brett:
Coming up on "Tanked"...

The customer decided to change
His mind on this whole insert.

Since it's important
To the client

That the tank have bronze decor,

Working with denny

To make some unique corals.

Colorwise, they want, like,
Greens and bronzes.

It's the bronze thing
That caught my attention.

'cause that's something
I've never done before.

I've got
Some bronze powder.

Ooh, that's pretty.

So, I don't see a reason
We can't dust the mold with that

And then pour
The material in.

Will this be
Fish-safe, though?

Absolutely. It's not
An actual metal powder.

It's a mica powder,
Which is ground up rocks.

So, it looks bronze, it looks
Like metal, but it's not.

Let's see it.

We'll take this
And we'll dust the mold.

Ooh, that's bronze.

That's a really inexpensive
Bronzer for how much you get.

Agnes will be stealing that
On her way out.

So the first step

Is we've got to take
The mica powder

And we've got to get it
Inside the mold.

So, you'll basically
Just dip the brush

And then just
Dust it like that.

Okay.That should be good.

So, now we're going to put
Rubber bands around it to
Hold the whole mold together.

This is the mother mold that
Holds everything in shape.

-got it.

After denny measures out
The ratio of our two-part resin,

We'll add some bronze powder
For color.

Looks like cinnamon.

-ooh, that does look cool.
-isn't it pretty?

Looks like a macchiato.

A little bit of black.

Also known as the disco clam,

This mollusk reflects
Light on tiny silica

Located on the edge
Of its shell.

Although the effect looks
Like an electrical charge,

There's no voltage here.

The reflection is used to
Attract light-seeking plankton

And ward off predators.

And it's 132 inches long.

It's amazing.

So, we designed this tank
With corals,

And in the middle of it,
He changed it,

So we had this manzanita
Branches with this rock,

So it kind of flowed
With the room in here.

We worked with your wood guys.

They actually built
All the wood onsite.

I love it. It's killer.

Inside the aquarium,
You have over 40 fish.

They're all going to get
Along with each other.

So, in here, you have
The imperator angel.

The imperator is going to be
The big boss of the aquarium.

Well, since this is
The boardroom,

The boardroom means

And we did that because

They're calm and they love

So, we actually cut it out
On our cnc machine,

And then we glued it
To the back of the aquarium.
