Process behind how the crabs --

Are they caught?
Caught on a boat.

We fly them in fresh every day
From the chesapeake bay.

Chesapeake bay --
Yeah, I was there.

I grew up out there.

Dude, geography's not
Your strong suit.

You grew up
Near oyster bay.

The chesapeake bay is
In maryland

Where these guys grew up.

Whatever, dude.
I'm sure they connect somewhere.

Flown-in live crab
Right off the boat?

Mm-hmm, every day, yeah.

Dude, what about a boat?

A boat.

What we do is,
We have a half a boat,

The front of the boat,
Come off to a point,

And then what we could do is,
We could make acrylic windows --

Acrylic windows sitting
On a stand,

So the acrylic looks like
The boat.

We do the bottom half, which
Will actually look like a boat.

It's like it's crashing
Out of our wall.

The boat's coming through
The restaurant?

Exactly, like -- exactly.

It's coming right out
Of the wall.

I like it.

The only concern I have is
Make sure it's authentic,

Looks kind of like one of the
Crab boats that maybe we use.

You can kind of take a peek
At that one there.

Dude, we can do
That whole thing.

We can do the dock area
Like that.

You know, crabs come from
Brackish water, so...

Brackish water is
Where the freshwater rivers

Run into the salt water.

Brett: these crabs live
In the same kind of water

As some gobies and cichlids
We put in tanks.

So, we'll make sure
That the parameters

For the crabs match
In the chesapeake bay.

The final design
For the table tank...

Redneck and I are gonna get
Started on the crab-boat tank.

The first order of business
For the crab corner tank

Is to match the look
Of a crabbing boat.

The front has a curve to it,

So to achieve this, we'll attach
Two pieces of acrylic together.

Gonna bend this piece
Right here,

And then we're gonna take
Another piece

And also bend it
Right here, too.

The problem we're gonna have is
The material when it meets.

My main concern is,
Is that it's strong

'cause there's gonna
Be definitely a weak
Point on the tank.

There's 800 pounds of water

Pushing against the seam
Where the acrylic meets.

We got to make sure
This holds like a dam.

Usually, you know,
We do a butt joint.

You know what I'm saying?
Right.

I don't know, after we take
The pieces out of the oven,

How it's gonna bend and
How this joint's gonna be.

Here, grab those pieces.
Yeah.

Squeeze that right there.

Okay, now look.

You see this point
Right here?

You see
How that's gonna come?

That's what's gonna happen.

The two sections of acrylic
Might not line up

When they come out of the oven.

Only the tips of the acrylic
Pieces are touching,

And we need more surface area
To create a fail-safe bond.

I have to cut here

And then round that

So that glue joint
Will hold.

Redneck needs to keep
A close watch on this build.

If the angle's aren't exact
And the bond's not perfect,

This boat can sink before
We get a chance to set sail.

While going over the plans
For the e.M.I. Yoshi table tank,

I noticed a major flaw
In the design.

When we have a tank,
There's a water line,

And the water line
Usually leaves about,

You know,
Like, right here.

Like, see how there's
A water line right here?

You take a piece of acrylic,
Which is the table top.

Okay?
Okay.

And you put it up over here...
Right.

...When you look down,

Condensation is gonna build up
On the top of this.

You're not gonna be able to see
Into the aquarium.

If this is the steel stand
And this is our tank,

When this thing fills up
With water,

As it's getting heavy,
It's gonna go like this.

Redneck: yeah.
The whole tank's gonna crack.

We're building a table tank
For a flatware company.

You can pull up a chair
And look down at the fish.

Sounds great, but the design has
A major flaw.

When you look down,

Condensation is gonna build up
On the top of this.

You're not gonna be able to see
Into the aquarium.

The only way that you're gonna
Be able to make that happen

Is if the water,
Like, this box --

If this piece touches
The water.

Yeah, but why can't you
Have the water come all
The way up to the top?

If you bring the water
All the way up to the top,

There's gonna be no oxygen
Flowing into the tank

To keep the fish healthy
And alive.

Brett: it's a necessity in an
Aquarium to have an open space,

To allow for gas
And air exchange

To keep the fish healthy,
But there won't be any air space

If the water's filled up
To the top.

Listen, is our adage not,

"If you can dream it,
We can build it"?

It is,
But hold on a second.

Paprika! I got it!

Dude, it's "Eureka."

Perfect, look at this.
Redneck, come here.

What do you see
In the center?

Redneck: a vase.

General: a centerpiece.

If we put a vase in the center
And cut it out,

That will allow us space for
The air to go into the tank.

So, you would have to put
An overflow --

Inside the vase?

The water can touch
The table top

Because it'll flow into the vase
Where the overflow box is.

The top half of the vase
Will be an air space

Where gas and air exchange
Can happen.

This is the way
It's got to be.

This will be the overflow,

And then we'll have another box
Surrounding this one,

So that means the whole surface
Will fill up with water.

You can do it.

And that's
Thinking outside the box.

Gonna be eaten up.

We'll start with a 6-foot-long,
Crystal-clear saltwater tank

That will rest on a steel stand.

Concealed inside will be
Plumbing and filtration,

Surrounded by
An elegant wood-grain facade.

Since the aquarium will be
Filled to the top,

We'll have to create
A custom overflow

In the center of the tank

That'll be disguised
As a fresh-flower display.

We'll sprinkle in
Some colorful coral,

A party of vibrant fish,
And a couple of chairs.

And once we top it off with the
Client's trendy place settings,

This table tank is gonna be
To dine for.

Redneck: wayde and I came up
With a plan

To bond two pieces of acrylic
For the boat tank.

But I tweaked it a little bit.

Red, what's going on?

I'm just getting ready
To stick this in the oven.

We're not gonna have a seam
In the front.

With a complex seam like this,
We run the risk of it leaking.

Instead, if we form one piece
Of acrylic to the shape we want,

We're guaranteed to be
Watertight.

One full piece, both sides.

So, you're just gonna put
The back on it?

Back on
And the top and bottom.

I got to admit, redneck's plan
Makes a lot of sense.

I was going for the pointy look,

But the point in the facade
Will do the trick.

All right,
So, this might work.

Okay, just do me a favor --

We had to make the steel stand
Smaller than the tank

So people can sit at the table,

But this steel stand is
Too small.

It won't support
The weight evenly.

The whole tank's gonna crack.

This thing needs to be
Supported.

Usually,
I'd make the tank stronger,

But the tank's already done.

I'm not making
A thicker tank.

Redneck, grab the 2x4s.

Lay them underneath.

What if we put steel bars
Going out to make it sit on it?

Then it'll hold it.
It won't go like this.

It'll be stiff.

If we add a flat steel framework
At the top of the stand

So the tank can sit on it,

It'll distribute the weight
And still be leg room.

When there's unwanted air
In the tank,

There's only one thing to do --
Burp it.

We're removing a screw
In the access panel,

Then we'll tilt the tank

To try to release the air
Pockets through that hole.

Okay, so that's working,

So I think we got a plan,
And we're good to go.

Steel stand's good.
You get the plumbing going.

Let's get this thing drained.

Finishing up the plumbing

For the crab corner tank,

And the clients stopped by
To make sure

The water's gonna be safe
For the blue crab.

What's up, guys?

Hey, guys. How's it going?

It's coming together.
It looks awesome.

Fresh crabs right from the
Airport. We just picked them up.

They brought crabs? What are
We supposed to do with those?

They said they just wanted to
See how they'd look in the tank.

Mark: so, these crabs come
From the chesapeake bay.

How are you guys gonna match
The water

To do the brackish water
From the chesapeake bay?

Well, what we'll do is
We'll add nutri-seawater,

Which is already salted.

And then we'll add a little bit
Of freshwater,

Lower the salt level
So it becomes a brackish water.

Perfect.

Certain temperature?
Anything above 50 degrees.

Below 50 degrees,
They stop swimming.

They kind of go down in the mud
And get dormant.

So as long as it stays above
50 to 60 --

Somewhere in that range --

The crabs will swim around
A lot, and that's what we want

For our customers to see it.
Okay.

Now we just need to keep track
Of how many boxes of seawater

That we need to mix
With freshwater

To match the salinity
Of the bay.

Crank it up!

This refractometer measures
Salinity.

The chesapeake bay salinity
Is between

0.5 to 25 parts per 1,000,
So we need to be in that range.

The salinity is 1.001.
I think we're good.

With our homemade brackish water
Ready,

The clients want to see
What their crabs look
Like in their tank.

Well, yeah, but they're gonna
Look like wet crabs, right?

Let's find out.

All right, let's rock 'n' roll.
I got them right here.

These blue crab are
From the chesapeake bay,

But they can be found
In other brackish water,

Like the gulf of mexico.

That guy looks like
He's ready to go in.

Yeah, he's ready
To go swimming.

Seawater mixed with freshwater

Gives us instant chesapeake bay.

But they wanted to keep it
Completely sparse,

Just like the chesapeake.

We can do a vinyl wrap.

It look like the bottom
Of the chesapeake bay?

We can take pictures
From the bay of the bottom,

Put them on a laminate,

And put it on the bottom
Of the tank.

So it still stays authentic,
As well.

As long as we reach that goal,
Then I think we can be happy
With it.
