We want this trailer
To be a fish tank.

A fish tank
Out of a refrigerator.

A pinball machine.

An old coffin.

I mean, is that doable?
We could 100% do it.

Wayde:
When we tank an object,

A lot of work goes
Into the transformation.

There's a lot
Of different wires here.

And when we're asked

To turn ordinary things
Into amazing tanks,

We only have one chance
To get it right.

Frankie: oh!

So, join us as we review
The craziest items we've tanked.

Oh, my god!

We're two new yorkers
Who moved to las vegas

To follow our dreams...

To create underwater worlds
Like no one's ever seen.

I was forced
Into this relationship.

I married brett's sister.

And my dad runs operations.

Is our visit to pizza port
In san diego.

They wanted
Something unique

That would really bring
The ocean feeling

To their new location that was
Still under construction.

Brett: so we met them
At another pizza port location

To hear
What they wanted to tank.

So, what do you got
In mind?

I was thinking
A giant pint glass.

Ethan: I was thinking
Something bigger.

How about we put a tank

In one of these fermenters
Over here?

Wayde:
What's a fermenter?

That's where the beer sits
The most amount of time in.

We want something crazy.

You want it that big, huh?

It was a 20-foot-tall
Steel mountain.

Yeah, and we had
To turn it into a tank.

Brett:
The mammoth fermenter had to be
Supported from above and below

To hold the weight of the tank.

We cut two large viewing windows
And a porthole.

The top of this 11-foot-tall
Stainless-steel tower

Can be hoisted up
By a pulley system

To allow for easy access
Into the tank.

And if all this wasn't enough,

Redneck was able to rig the tank
To pour a cold brew.

Wayde:
Pizza port delivered us

The 800-pound fermenter
In no time.

We had to saw open
This $11,000 monster

Without making any wrong cuts.

We're gonna have to access this
Above and below

Once the aquarium's set in here.

I haven't been
That nervous

Since my first date
With heather.

You were nervous?
Eh.

Dude,
I'm telling heather.

Normally, you would cut a piece
Of steel with a saw like that,

The piece would fall right out.

And this one didn't even budge
When I knocked on it.

That was the moment that I knew

That this tank was a much
Bigger job than I realized.

Brett, hold this.

Ah.

[ metal clatters ]

What is that?

I think
That's another layer.

It turns out,

There's multiple layers
Inside of a fermenter.

The outside layer is steel,
Then foam,

Then the inside layer
Is steel,

And somewhere
In between that,

There's cooling
And heating coils.

Why don't we put
A plasma cutter on it?

It would cut through this
Like butter.

Bzzzz!

Bzzz!

A plasma cutter
Splits atoms

To cut through anything.

Yeah, and it gets
Up to 30,000 degrees to do it.

This had to be done
From the inside,

So I jumped in
And did it myself.

Whoa, whoa!
Stop, stop!

Stop! Wayde!

Fire!

I didn't even realize

The plasma cutter almost burnt
The whole building down.

And I was trapped inside.

Joe: wayde! Stop!

Stop!
Wayde!

Wayde, stop!
It's a fire!

[bleep]

It's too dangerous.

Wayde: did you have a fire?
Yeah.

Now we have a mountain of steel

With a hole burnt in the side,
But we're lucky.

Things could have gone
A lot differently.

It took hours to scrape out
All those layers by hand.

That fermenter was like
An onion.

Glad I missed that one.

Yeah.
You missed them all.

After we hand-scraped
The foam out,

I had to cut the coils
And the final layer of steel.

Robin:
There it is. It's free.

Wayde:
Beautiful! Nice.

Well, we finally
Got all that done,

And I didn't destroy
The fermenter or myself.

That's the thing
About tank formation.

When we tank something,

You never know
What you're gonna get

Or what problems
You're gonna face.

Luckily, we're able
To continue building that tank.

Then we went
All the way back down

To san diego
For the install.

Let's get this job
Rolling!

We're good.

Wayde:
The next challenge we faced,

There was just no room
In that fermenter

For all the filtration,

Especially since redneck
Had to figure out

How to actually
Make it dispense beer, too.

Redneck: you know,
One way or another,

We are gonna get beer
Out of this fermenter.

Redneck hooked up a line
From a nearby keg

And ran it
Into the fermenter.

I think redneck might consider
Getting beer out of this tank

His greatest accomplishment.

He had tubes going
Every which way.

Ah.

How's that?

Ah.

Look. He's smiling.
It's about time.

Thank god.

If I knew that, I would have
Got him beer earlier.

Let's see
What we got first.

Clown fish
And a green chromis.

Would you like a pitcher
Of pakistani red?

Yes, I would, sir.
There you go.

Pakistani butterfly.

Wow. They're gonna love
These fish, huh?

The fish were in,

And there was nothing left to do
But see if our client approved

What we had done
To their fermenter.

It's amazing!
Oh, my gosh!

Yeah!

That's so crazy.
Wow!

I cannot believe they turned
That fermenter into an aquarium.

It's just to die for.

Wayde: the tank is 10 feet tall
And weighs over a ton.

You nailed it.

Brett: oh! I like that!

I think you guys owe each other
A beer for that, right, huh?

It is just beautiful,
With the lighting and the fish.

It's amazing.

Brett:
As hard as it was

To turn a beer fermenter
Into an aquarium,

The result was a work of art.

Gina:
This is the coolest thing ever!

Everyone was ready
To celebrate over this tank.

Yeah, but here's something
You didn't get to see.

I've got a surprise for you.

And I want you to follow me.
I want to show you something.

On a beer mug tank,

So her husband secretly asked us
To build a second aquarium,

And she flipped.

It's a little smaller
Than what you were thinking.

It was like when we had
Our child or something.

We basically gave birth
To a tank.

That kept us up all night.

Today, we're looking back

At some of the craziest objects
That we turned into tanks.

Yeah, and nothing's
More nerve racking

Than when a customer gives you
An irreplaceable or rare object

And says,
"Tank this."

We have a vintage car.

Ron:
The car is the antique.

So, our nerves were racked

When the owners of
The malibu winery presented us

With one
Of their collection.

Wayde:
Pull it off. Let's go.

It's a wagon!
Oh, my god.

No duh it's a wagon.

This thing is cool.
That's what it is.

There's no way
This is holding an aquarium.

That wagon looked like it can
Barely hold a bowl of water,

Let alone
A 3,000-pound tank.

Redneck's got to look
At it.

We got to do
A weight test on it.

But...Doesn't look
So good right now.

The only way we knew
What we were in for

Was to fill barrels with sand
To match the weight of the tank,

And then we placed it
Into the wagon

To see if it could hold
The weight.

The aquarium is about
3,600 pounds with water.

This thing's got to hold
At least that amount of weight.

All right, hold the barrel.
Back up, redneck.

Frankie:
Bring it down. Easy.

Right there, right there.
So far, so good.

Yeah, so far,
But that's only one barrel.

Listen, if that barrel goes,
It'll crush frankie.

Frankie: right there.
Right there. Right there.

If the wagon didn't hold,

We would have nothing
To make into an aquarium.

Yeah, and we'd have
To explain

How we smashed
A skeletal old wagon.

Dude, that thing is,
Like, bending.

It's bending?

Frankie:
Easy. Right there.

Redneck: I'm not sure
What this thing's gonna do.

[ creaking ]

Frankie: oh! Oh!

What? Oh!

Oh, man.

I can still feel my heart
In the pit of my stomach.

Never before have we destroyed
A client's property.

Agnes: robert,
You think we can fix it?

What?

No, I'm good,
But I'm not that good.

I called "Not it" first.

That means
He didn't have

To call the client
With the bad news.

So we made agnes do it.

Hi, mr. Selmer.

And we made redneck get
A new wagon.

Agnes:
Come on, redneck! Push!

Redneck: I am!

We can even do
Some dancing on it!

What are you guys doing?

This one's gonna hold.

Kind of crickety.

It's a better wagon.

The old one
Was a hay wagon.

It was designed just to go out
And feed hay in the field.

This one is actually designed
To hold barrels,

So it's a more-stronger
Wagon.

Way stronger.

Rednecks know
About wagons, huh?

Oh, yeah.

This thing
Is redneck certified.

Now here's something
That you haven't seen before.

The truth is, I wasn't
100% sure about this wagon

Until we took it to our friends
Over at stage house

And they helped us
Reinforce it.

We got to make sure
It's good with the water weight

And the shifting
And everything of the ground.

We got to make sure
Everything is accounted for,

Or it's not leaving.

Even though this wagon
Was sturdier,

It didn't have the support
Of the steel stands

That we use under our tanks.

When you turn an object
Into a tank,

You have to turn it

Into a support system
For the tank, too.

Robin: I put a steel frame
Inside of that.

Just put in a real beefy
Steel structure in here.

Okay.

So, by the time
I'm done with this,

It's gonna hold
Three times the weight

Redneck needs it to hold.

I know what I'm doing
Is gonna work,

But I want you to sleep,
Too.

[ laughs ]
All right?

That'd be nice.

Brett: so, as you just saw,
No antique wagon in the world

Could hold the weight
Of an aquarium.

So, we started by welding steel
To the bottom of the frame.

Next, we built
A hidden compartment

To squirrel away
The plumbing and filtration.

A weatherproof canopy,

Tropical fish,
And authentic wine barrels

Turn this primitive wagon

Into an elegant showpiece
For the winery.

With all that sorted out,
It was time to install the tank.

But at the installation,
There was another problem.

We didn't realize
The soft ground wouldn't be able

To handle the weight
Of the forklift.

You think if I drive
It won't sink as much?

[ beeping ]

[ laughs ]

There was no time to waste
Trying to pull it out.

We had to carry this one by hand
Across the mud.

Watch your feet
Coming around, guys.

There's all sorts
Of obstacles.

Redneck,
Watch your left leg.

All right.
That's good. Yep.

Bring it down.
Keep coming.

That tank weighed
A quarter of a ton.

A forklift sure would
Have been nice.

Oh, I'm sore just thinking
About that install.

[ all grunting ]

Come on. My end's up.
Hold on.

Hold on.

[ all grunting ]

Push.

We had all types of problems

On the installation
Of this tank,

And here's some of the issues
That you haven't seen before.

Especially after seeing
How soggy the grass was

And how much we sunk in,

It was important that
The tank setup was very stable.

If it poured rain,
We needed to be sure

That the tank and the fish
Wouldn't float away.

All right, robin,
I got a question for you.

These are gonna be
The supports

That's gonna support the front
Of the tank from going over.

What I've done

Is I've put adjustable feet
On the bottom of this.

I'm gonna put
Pressure on it

So there's always tension
On there.

So, this ties
Into the other steel frame.

Yeah. Everything ties together,
So it's one, solid unit.

All right, beautiful.

All right,
Continue putting this in.

Let's get the pads in.

Let's me and you try
To get the forklift out.

Let's try.

Aw! Redneck thought he was gonna
Get some sleep that night.

[ chuckles ] Yeah.
Well, we all did.

I slept like a rock.

I'm gonna have the truck

Just gonna have them

When we pulled on the grass
With the truck,

I saw dollar signs going by.

We already bought
A second wagon.

I didn't want to spend
Thousands of dollars on sod.

The next day, all we had to do
Was get the fish in.

Are we ready
To show this thing?

After one broken wagon
And lots of engineering --

And the mud-pit problem.
Yeah.

It was finally time
To show the client

Their brand-new
Vintage aquarium.

Oh, my god!

This is amazing!

Ron: unbelievable, huh?

Lisa: oh, wow!

You did it.
You absolutely did it.

I think this is amazing.
I love what you did here.

We're sorry
About the first wagon.

Ron:
It's actually even bigger.

It's a little over
15 feet long.

Tank is 340 gallons.

4,000 pounds sitting here.

Brett: you notice we have
A lot of the light green fish,

And those guys are called
Green chromis.

They like
To school together.

And those are supposed
To represent

A bunch of green grapes

That you guys grow
Here on your vineyard.

We have the magnificent
Foxface fish in there.

We have
The green bird wrasse.

The green bird wrasse
Has a long beak,

And it actually looks
Like a bird.

I can assure you

That this will be
The focal point of malibu wines.

When they asked
For a bakery-case aquarium

To promote their wedding cakes,
It seemed easy enough...

We used to have a case
Just like this.

It had kind of
A nostalgic look to it.

You know, a little retro,
A little vintage.

Maybe we can recreate
Something like it.

Well,
Until you opened your mouth.

You know what I think
We should do?

I think we should make it spin
Like that one's spinning.

Underwater?

It's not like these objects
We turn into tanks

Function the same way
Once we fill them up with water.

So here's the kicker --

First, we had to hollow out
A bakery display case,

Outfit it with
1 1/2-inch-thick acrylic,

And we added
A cool detail.

The door
To the display case opens

To give you a better view
Of the custom cakes we built.

And, of course, we put a spin
On our typical aquarium

By having the cakes rotate
Underwater on acrylic shelving.

Finally, we sprinkled in
Colorful fish

To accent
The beautiful pastries.

While redneck gutted
That case,

The acrylic tank
And cake shelves

Were put together.

And redneck
Even whipped up

Some beautiful silicone cakes
For the display.

Yeah,
As they say in vegas,

Silicone can make things
More beautiful.

[ chuckles ]

Remember how we got
Those shelves to spin?

A motor.

Yeah, a thing on top
With a mechanism,

Just like I said.

Than people give me credit for.

And has over 50 fish.

It reminds me

That represents, you know,
The lemon tarts, lemon meringue,

That you guys create
Here in the bakery.

We also have
A powder blue tang,

Which represents
The powdered sugar

That you guys use

On some of your different
Cookies and cakes.

It's absolutely incredible,
Guys.

The fact that you guys
Actually got

A real refrigerator in here --

That's super nostalgic
For me, guys.

The icing on the cake
Right here.

I hate to admit it
To you --

Those spinning shelves
Took that tank to another level.

Dude, my wheels
Are always turning.

Brett: and now it's time
For a quick fish fact.

Just like a bakery display

And 120 gallons of water
Don't typically mix...

Brett:
So, which fish is known

To have an unlikely friendship
With sharks?

The answer is "B," pilot fish.

Since pilot fish eat the
Parasite that feed on sharks,

In return,
The sharks don't eat them.

And as they hang out all day,

It keeps the pilot fish safe
From other predators.

Now, that is one killer team.

When somebody hands us
An ordinary object

And says, "Tank this,"
It could make our heads spin.

You remember that time
We needed a pinball machine?

Yep.

[ machines dinging ]

Or when we had to find
The authentic 1950s jukebox?

And to find the perfect
Vintage popcorn popper,

I took frankie
Across town with me

To a place called fun city.

Its entire business is devoted
To making popcorn equipment.

You could look
At a manley over here.

They're out of business now,
But they had a 75% share

Of the movie-theater-popcorn
Business.

I kind of like
The name "Manley."

Kind of like me.
[ snickers ]

Dude,
That doesn't fit at all.

Neither did this machine.

I mean, if I looked
At that right there,

It kind of looks like it could
Have been a jukebox at one time.

I got
Some gold medal equipment.

Gold medal -- they're
The largest manufacturer.

One thing I will say --

I got a thorough lesson
In popcorn equipment that day.

But I don't think

An impact in the store.

To choose from?

Frankie hit a speed bump.
The thing -- bop!

I did tie it down.

Luck was on our side
That day.

And he had no way to yell at us.

Brett: once we had a plan,
We gutted the machine,

Reinforced
The existing steel stand,

Then replaced
And fitted the popper

With an acrylic aquarium.

A compact filter
In the back of the tank

Leaves room underneath
For a popcorn dispenser

Where customers can try samples.

Above the dispenser,
Our center insert simulates

Kernels popping
Out of a handmade kettle.

Lastly, we added white
And yellow popcorn-colored fish

To swim around
Their updated, vintage home.

So, we knew
That we needed a fan

To blow the popcorn up the tube
In the center of the tank.

This thing had to look like
It was actually popping popcorn.

Frankie,
Plug one of the fans in.

Let's start
With the little fan.

General: is it on?

[ chuckles ]
It's not even moving.

Where's the other fan?

That's a little bit better.
It's still not good.

We're getting there.

I don't think
A fan's gonna work.

What are you gonna use?

After an hour messing around
With these little fans,

It finally occurred to me.

Leaf blower.

Oh, that'll work.
Frankie: oh, yeah.

We need more in there.

Too much!

That ain't right, guys.

There you go.

[ laughs ]

Whoa!

It was an ingenious idea

Once we tamped it down
With a filter.

Let me ask you a question.

Is that popcorn
In your ear?

[ laughs ]

[ both groan ]

Had everything figured out

And ready to install.

That doesn't display.
It's candy and soda.

But it displays the candy,
It displays the sodas,

And then you're able
To purchase them.

Dude, I had no idea
Where you were going with this.

I was imagining

Chunks of broken coral
Dispensing from this thing.

They kind of have
The same thought.

They want to display
Their corals

So people can purchase them,
Correct?

Obviously,
We can't make a coral

Spit out through
The vending machine.

Don't push it.
Don't even push it.

That I know we can't do.
That I know we can't do.

But what I'm saying

Is that you guys want
To display a product.

Right.

A vending machine
Displays product.

You put the coral
Inside of it,

And then people realize
That they can get it.

Had three separate components.

We gutted two
And fitted them with aquariums.

The last section had to house
The soda-dispensing mechanism

And all of our plumbing,

But we made it work.

Leaving
That soda compartment

On the bottom of the machine
Operable and intact wasn't easy.

We were trying to conserve
As much space as possible

So we can fit the tanks.

But you know all about

Squeezing as much as you can
Into a small space.

Take your shirt,
For instance.

A bass drum
Would be fantastic.

They wanted a tank shaped
Like a bass drum,

Surrounded
By the rest of the drum set.

Everything was going fine,
Until...

Is there any way we can make
The bass drum still function

And have fish in it?

I'm sure there's a way
We could do that.

I mean...

Without hurting
The fish?

Fish are sensitive
To noise and vibrations,

And you just suggested
That we turn their home

Into a working drum?

Dude, if you can dream it,
We can drum it.

Turned into eight tanks.

The most we've ever done
For one aquarium setup.

And they all had to play!

We build tanks.
Not drums.

It took six of us all afternoon
To put this together.

This was one
Complicated jigsaw puzzle.

I don't even see the hole
That it goes into.

It's upside down.

We finally figured out how
To build most of the drum set.

Then we had to build

Exact replicas
Of these drums in acrylic.

To do that, we made
The molds out of wood.

Yeah, the shapes
Had to be perfect,

Or the rest of the pieces
Of the drum set

Wouldn't fit
Back together.

Cylinder tanks
Are hard to build, too.

It takes multiple
Trips to the oven

To get them
Formed correctly.

You have to start the curve,
Pull it out,

Prep the next part of the curve
While it's still soft,

And continue the process
Until it's fully rounded.

We decided to make

The bottom four drums
Saltwater tanks,

And hide the filtration
Under a steel-stand stage.

The top four drums
Were freshwater goldfish tanks.

No filtration was needed,

So no ugly pipes
Would be showing.

We still
Had to figure out

How to attach dozens of pieces
To our drum-replica tanks.

This was more difficult

Than putting barbie's dream
House together for my kids.

[ laughs ]

You guys come up
With an idea yet?

Oh, these got
Prongs behind it, too, huh?

Yeah.

And it sits
Off of the tank.

I want it to look
As real as possible.

The client said
They want it to be,

Like, exactly like
Their drum set.

So what
We were thinking is,

Redneck could drill
Two little holes in it,

They can sit.

It's a lot of work to do
All these all the way around.

But it'll look
Like a real drum set.

He's got 10.

On each drum.
10 per each drum.

If that's the case,
Then we got to start moving.

It was tedious,
But we wasted no time

Getting the drum hardware
Onto the acrylic

To make these drums
Look authentic.

You forgot
One important thing.

Making them play.

Oh, yeah, yeah.

We decided to mount
Electronic drum pads

On the top of the tanks.

That way, nobody would
Be banging on the acrylic.

Yeah,
But even with the pads,

We still needed
To address the issue

With the noise
And the vibration.

You know?
To keep the fish safe?

I downloaded this app --
It shows vibration and noise.

If we take the foam --

Let's say we cut little pieces,
If we could, right?

And we glue the pieces down
Around it.
