The first step to winning Employee of the month

Is selling a tank At our first consult.

Bella terra is in Huntington beach, california.

It's a 460-unit Luxury apartment complex

Right down the block From the beach.

This place is swank.

The clients own multiple Apartment complexes

And are out of town On another jobsite,

So we're meeting With the builders.

You guys are almost finished Here, huh?

Just a couple months away.

I'll tell you, This place is great.

I mean, Whoever lives here

Is gonna have definitely Some luxury living.

Nothing says luxury like A high-end saltwater aquarium.

That is true. We're in huntington beach.

Everything's about the beach. Everything's about the ocean.

They want to bring that Right into this project

For the residents.

We're game for that.

Where exactly Is the aquarium gonna go?

It's gonna go Into the leasing center.

Can we check that area out? Yeah. Let's take a walk.

David: this is where we want The tank -- right here.

It's like what -- 15, 20 feet?

It's about 19 feet. We can put a tank in there.

The leasing center Is located in the main lobby.

It's the first thing That new clients will see,

So this tank has to make A big impression.

Do you know what kind of tank They're thinking about?

David: Waves are the theme here.

So what we were thinking about Doing was on this wall here,

Having the cabinetry follow This tile work in wave pattern.

A monster 15-foot rectangular tank

With a wave-pattern coral.

That'd be cool!

Bro, we can one-up that. Follow my lead.

Picture this.

What if we were To actually make an aquarium

That was an actual front panel That had a wave in it?

You can do that?

Absolutely we can do that.

Why do a regular rectangle

When we can do something that's Just over-the-top exciting?

Rectangles aren't boring. Don't say that.

Yeah, they're boring. No, they're not.

Everything we do is cool, But they're a little bit boring.

They're kind of plain.

What would be better Than a wave-shaped aquarium

To bring the ocean Into the lobby?

Now, that's How you turn heads.

Yeah. There's only one thing You forget.

Our oven won't hold A panel that big.

What about, like, the inside Theming of the aquarium?

Well, I know the owners Are big into diving.

There you go. That's a good start.

Maybe like a reef or -- Underwater.

Sometimes we do coral inserts Against the whole back wall.

Why don't we do this?

Why don't we leave A little piece of it open?

Maybe put, like, the blue back To kind of have the ocean feel?

That'll give you The depth to it.

And another tube, Then put this around it.

Fish would be swimming in there Through a brace.

What is this?

Rich: that's A cold-therapy device.

What you do is you put in water And ice cubes,

And there's a pump Inside this part here,

And it will circulate cold water To a cold-therapy pad.

Ice stays in here And has a pump.

It goes to the pad. You have the pad on.

So you never have to put ice Directly onto your knee.

And what I'm really excited About is

The team just finished Designing and developing

The next-generation version Of that,

And that's our clear cube Up here.

And look how much nicer And more modern it looks.

Dude...We can tank this. Look at this.

And it's Kind of a good tie-in

'cause there's liquid In there anyway.

We could bevel the edges.

We can make the top Look just like the top.

Your tubes right here Are gonna be blocking Most of the aquarium,

So what if we were To take the tubes and Bring them down here?

That'd be perfect.

And then maybe Make them clear

And maybe have Some little bubbles in them

To kind of make it look Like water's kind of Going through it?

So it's a 15-foot-long tank.

That's too big to go in the oven As one piece,

So we're gonna Have to figure out

And make Actually two pieces.

Brett: To bring the ocean indoors

For the residents Of bella terra,

The saltwater tank Will feature a wave-front panel

That's over 15 feet long.

The wave theme

Will make the clients' Custom tile work on the wall

Flow seamlessly Into the aquarium.

And to give our diver clients A view of the seafloor,

We'll build custom coral inserts

That provide depth and realism To this luxury underwater oasis.

Wayde: and for the next tank, We're gonna replicate

A cold-therapy unit For djo global.

We're gonna have the canopy. We're gonna have the hose.

We're gonna have the decal.

If that thing's a cooler And they have ice in it,

What about putting, like, Ice cubes in it of some sort?

I'm going over the quote For djo global's tank,

And I see a problem, And it's a big problem.

What's up?

Who actually bidded This whole thing out?

I gave the sales quote.

We need to make These corners radius.

Dude, the way you priced This up, it ain't gonna work.

What do you mean?

I figured We could router the corners.

There's no way you're gonna get That radius there.

I don't think we can Actually give the customer

What they want.

Wayde: My concern is this.

It's a little awkward. It's a little heavy on one side.

When we lift it, It can fall.

I was going over the price quote That brett gave djo,

And I noticed a problem -- A big problem.

Dude, the way you priced This up, it ain't gonna work.

The client wants radius corners On the tank

To match their iceman product.

But we're not gonna be able To give them what they want

Based on brett's budget.

What do you mean?

I figured we could router The corners.

I'll show you in the shop. We got to go out to the shop.

This here is -- let's say It's the corner of the tank.

We need a surface area To bond this,

So we need enough strength In here.

This is our surface area Where we bond.

To get a radius out of here, We can only cut that much off.

That's about 3/4.

This is not gonna give The radius that they want.

We need to start it From here to here,

And that radius is gonna lose That whole bonding area.

There's no way this can be done To match this picture.

No way.

We're gonna need a mold.

It's gonna have to go In the oven.

We're gonna have to Bend this whole front Piece of the panel

And bond it on the sides.

So, we have to make Two pieces.

It's a lot more work And a lot more money.

We have to make The customer happy.

We're gonna lose money On this.

Brett's excitement Over employee of the month

Might've cost us A few thousand dollars.

To get the rounded edges Of the djo iceman,

We'll mold two acrylic panels And bond them together.

We'll theme the tank Exactly to the djo specs,

Including a logo decal, hoses, A custom facade and canopy,

And even fish-safe ice cubes Inside the tank.

I got to make up For the djo budget debacle

By making sure The bella terra tank is perfect.

Because the wave front is so big And has such complex curves,

We made a mini version of it.

It'll give us an idea

Of the correct dimensions For the full-size mold

And how to bond Those two panels together.

A sheet of acrylic Is big and expensive,

And we can't afford to make Another mistake.

Wayde: brett, Take the other piece out.

There we go. Look at that bad boy.

That's gonna be the whole front Of the tank.

Brett: this is The right radius, right?

This is the exact radius What we want.

So, it's gonna be one mold,

But we're gonna put it in Two times.

It'd be a lot easier To build one mold

And just curve one panel,

But our oven isn't 15 feet,

So we have to make The front panel in two pieces.

It's gonna start off Like this.

Out of the oven. Exactly.

We're gonna bond it Together,

And when it's finished, We're gonna get this.

Hey! 15 years later.

Funny.

At this rate, Another 15 more years,

You might be able to learn How to use a screwdriver.

If you're lucky.

The tricky part is the bond.

Most bonds Are like butt joints.

That means They're flat together.

We need the strength,

So we're gonna have to cut this On a miter joint,

Like 30, 40, maybe 45 degrees To get that angle,

'cause you have More surface to bond.

Just like this one's mitered. You see that piece right there?

And these two pieces go Exactly together and glue.

I'm glad we did a test run. This thing's expensive.

This piece is like $15,000 For a sheet of material.

That's a lot of money.

We make a mistake, And we're in trouble.

Let's get The big mold going.

All right? Okay.

Everybody's working hard To be employee of the month.

Frankie's out in the shop Sweating.

The general volunteered To work in retail.

Redneck's pumping out tanks At record pace.

But no one has taken This contest more seriously

Than brett.

Dirty, dirty, dirty.

Leads to money, money, money.

Don't bite me.

Oh, my god, I can't even believe I'm doing this.

This stuff is gross.

Look at this.

I almost feel bad Watching brett work.

No, I don't.

The acrylic for djo iceman tank Is coming along nicely.

The custom mold is built,

The panels have been fired into The oven and bent into shape,

And everything Is polished and bonded.

Now we need to Make this thing look

Like the iceman Cold-therapy unit.

The iceman has a hose That pumps cold water to a pad.

We need to re-create this Using clear nylon tubing.

The only thing We have to come up with now...

Is the bubble effect. Correct.

So it looks like Water's running through it.

You can't hook up a bubbler

Because the air Has nowhere to escape.

And if it's inside Of a closed tube,

The thing could explode.

Denny, I know you got A couple of ideas.

You've been chewing at it.

One of the solutions I came up with is

I've got a clear resin.

It's part "A," part "B." We'll mix those together.

We'll have A short amount of time

To blow bubbles Inside of there.

If we do it just right,

Then maybe we can get The bubbles to stay.

So, it looks like water Bubbling through the tube.

Blowing some air in it Before it gets hard

So the air's Already in it.

All right, let's do it. All right.

They mix one to one.

Here we go.

As I stir, I can feel it getting Warmer and warmer.

It's gonna fire off At about 180.

It's pretty clear, though. It looks good.

All right, So we're getting there now.

Let's try this.

See how...

Redneck: that ain't holding No bubbles.

There's some little bubbles In there.

We need bigger bubbles. We need thicker bubbles.

That ain't working. They're rising.

See how they're harder To float right now?

Keep going. It's done.

It kicked in?

Yep, it kicked in. That ain't gonna work.

It isn't holding The bubbles.

Next. What are we gonna do?

We got to come up With a solution, guys,

'cause this is Definitely a problem.

I think I came up with A great idea.

So, you know both of those tanks Are in southern california.

I'm thinking we can do Two installs at the same time.

Two in one day? Yeah.

Brett: we're trying To re-create the hoses

On the djo iceman tank.

I promised the client That the tubes would be clear

And they'd be able to see Bubbly water inside of them,

But denny's idea Didn't work out as planned.

Keep going. It's done.

It kicked in?

We're gonna surprise The djo clients

With ice cubes at the bottom Of their iceman tank.

I've been working with denny To make it happen.

Brett: he's got the ice cubes For djo.

We cut a couple of samples made.

Some of the guys Made some at the shop,

And then I had denny make A couple of different ones

That we could throw Underneath the light

To see which actually look Like ice cubes.

These aren't really gonna work 'cause I think these are --

You won't see them. Yeah, they're gonna disappear.

So, you add color inside When you made these?

Yeah, based on the fact that we Didn't want them to disappear,

I wanted to try Some different colors, See what looked good.

I thought about how The aquariums generally Have kind of a blue hue.

Put them underwater. Let's see.

All right, so we have A green one going in.

Looks white underwater.

It's not terrible. It's not bad.

Here comes the blue one -- The artistic one.

That looks like your kid made A blueberry ice pop.

I was actually Looking at it.

It almost looks like a rat Facing nose down right there.

Yeah, oh, I see.

Like you froze a rat in there. Rat pops.

How do you know What a frozen rat looks like?

Dude, what, are you kidding me? He's got them in his freezer.

You thaw them out And microwave them. They're tasty.

Rat pops. [ chuckles ]

This is the one I think I like best.

That definitely looks Like an ice cube.

Brett: yeah. That's the one that I liked,

And me and denny Both like that one.

Size of that unit Being, like, 44x44,

We'd need at least 180 Of those, denny.

That's A weird-shaped tank, boy.

It's time to put the top Of the bella terra tank on.

You always flip the tank Upside down when you're gluing

Because the glue doesn't run Down the front face of the tank.

My concern is this.

It's a little awkward. It's a little heavy on one side.

When we lift it, It can fall.

We don't really do Too many like this,

And it's very crucial That all our hands are on it

So we don't break it.

Got to go down more.

Be careful, guys.

My heart Was racing a little bit.

The guys think I'm crazy Because a bald guy had an idea

To fill the iceman tubing With hair gel.

I used to have locks And a body like hercules.

I know a thing or two About hair products.

Look at the bubbles. The bubbles are already in it.

Denny: it looks great.

The plan is to dump this goop Down the funnel

And into the clear tube

And then blow it down

For even coverage And an extra-firm hold.

Redneck: we need A wider mouth, though.

Making it one big Underwater apartment complex.

Unlike most stingrays,

Blue dots prefer To hang out in reef caves

Instead of burying themselves In the sand.

They eat, sleep, and clean Themselves all in the reef,

Just like any other home.

I wonder how much the rent is.

The bella terra tank is bonded, Sanded, and ready to go.

The clients, they're divers.

We need to make sure The coral insert

Looks just like the ocean floor.

Not an easy task.

It's looking a little -- Kind of stiff, I would say.

The customer Really wanted to have,

You know, a lot of blue In the background

Like you're diving And you're seeing that depth.

To me, you got A straight line here

In a kind of straight line.

If we added some corals to it Just to show a little depth.

Is there any way we can, like, Doctor that up a little bit?

Brandon: we're pretty tight, You know, on the budget.

If you're wanting More rock work dimension-wise,

I mean, we're gonna have to Go back to square one

With the screening And the polygum,

Painting the rock work All five colors.

Re-clear the whole thing, Paint the whole thing.

We're pretty much Starting from scratch.

It's a lot of work.

That's a lot of work,

And we don't have The money for it.

We already had a budget issue With the djo tank.

I wasn't expecting an issue With this one.

But we don't have a choice. This needs to be perfect.

I'd pull it all out. I really would.

I'd pull all the coral out.

I know it's gonna take Most of the day.

Isn't good for business.

Luckily, soon-to-be employee Of the month brett raymer

Has a plan, And it's an atm first.

I think I came up with A great idea.

So, you know both of those tanks Are in southern california.

So, we can ship them both At the same time,

And I'm thinking we can do Two installs at the same time.

Both can be ready At the same time.

And if we send A couple extra guys with us,

I think I could peel off And do one install

And you could peel off And do the other.

They're 70 miles apart.

It's an awesome luxurious Apartment complex.

We're going fishing.

Well, you know, When you said bella terra,

You know, I was thinking Bellus angel.

What do you think of that?

Oh, my god.

They're friendly, Non-aggressive angels.

You can put them together With other fish.

You know, That's really good,

Because this is a luxurious Apartment complex,

And people have to Live together harmoniously,

So I think the bella in The bella is a definite hit.

People go diving. They go snorkeling.

You know, they're cruising along The top of the water,

They're looking down.

Lookdowns. Lookdowns.

There they go. Aren't those awesome?

Wow, you got a lot of them, Dude.

When they follow the wave Of the front tank

And you see them shimmer And shimmer, that'll look good.

It's definitely Gonna look cool.

And you know what? If you go in the caribbean,

You're gonna definitely see These guys while you're diving,

So I think That's a great fit.

And that's not good For a 2,000-pound tank.

That's porcelain That's sticking up.

The floor sink's installed

To provide drainage For the aquarium.

The problem is It's supposed to be flush.

This thing's stuck up 3/8 of an inch.

This tank cannot sit On top of it.

Soon as the weight goes on it, That porcelain's cracked,

So we can't move this in Right now.

A 460-unit Luxury apartment complex,

Doing our first Of two installs today.

We were just getting The stand in place

We can't move this in Right now.

This is a big setback.

You never want to make Major changes like this

On the jobsite, But we have no choice.

We have to cut the wood And the steel

In order for the stand To slide into place.

The good news is We cut the stand

And it should slide into place.

The bad news -- We lost a lot of time,

And everybody's ready for me At djo.

In taking your iceman, We actually supersized it.

It was actually Two acrylic pieces

That were molded In an oven.

It's inch and a quarter thick, So it's bulletproof.

Obviously, iceman, What does it need? It needs ice.

Ice wasn't That easy to make.

We actually had Our prop master, denny,

Make us a few Different kinds of ice,

And we also had to mess With the light a little bit

To get the perfect look.

The biggest challenge was

You guys have that tube That goes outside the box,

And you have the air and The water pumping through it.

We have These two tubes here.

We didn't want to make it black, So we made it clear

So you can actually see, like, Water flowing through it.

So, of course, brett, With no hair, came up with gel.

So, the tube's filled With gel.

I wasn't bald always. I had hair at one time.

We like to theme our fish Based upon the companies

That we're doing These projects for.

So, because you guys have worked With so many sports teams,

You know, pro and college,

We gave you fish that actually Have some different colors.

The mascot of the tank, Since we're in san diego,

Is the bicolor angel Because he's gold and blue.

And then we have the monos, Which are the guys up at top,

And these guys Are really hardy fish,

And the great thing About them is

They can go in freshwater Or saltwater,

So they can kind of ref Two different sports.

And also, we have A blue tang right here,

Which is black and blue

'cause we know that some of the People you've worked on before,

After their injuries, Got to be black and blue.

Mike: We asked for something

That would make an impression When you got here

And leave an impression When you left,

And this will absolutely leave A fantastic impression.

It's a one-of-a-kind,

And it represents Your product to a "T."

One set of satisfied customers On install day,

First one -- Tassle filefish.

This guy's Really cool-looking.

I think He took a two-bedroom.

This guy here,

He, like, glides through The waves and everything.

He's definitely gonna, you know, Cruise through the wavy tank.

Never thought it was gonna be Possible, but we did it.

You know what? I'll be honest.

So, when we first came Out here,

You guys weren't really part Of our initial visit,

So this is kind of a surprise To you guys what it looks like.

So, what do you guys think?

The wave, The size of it,

I mean, the dimensions, The fish, everything.

I mean, it's exactly What we were looking for.

Actually, it's better than I thought it was gonna turn out.

One of the things That you guys wanted to do

That these guys Were adamant about

Was about Bringing the ocean indoors.

We wanted to do The wave theme

To kind of bring the wave Into the lobby.

We had to use two sheets To make this tank in our oven,

And then we had to bond it Together.

We have two waves that go in And two waves that go out.

One of the things That we did do is

We we wanted to replicate kind Of how, when you're diving,

It's gonna look Underneath the water.

We also usually cover The whole background with coral,

But we wanted to give it Some depth,

So we just kept the blue

To kind of give you That ocean feel

And to showcase The beautiful fish.

Every piece that you see in here Is handmade, colored,

And hand-painted On the coral insert.

I'm a big diver, And I love to see this stuff.

I mean, I'm looking for exactly What was in the ocean in here,

And this looks Exactly like it.

Since you guys Have a community here,

We wanted to give you Community fish.

We wanted to make sure That everybody was Gonna live together

Kind of like, hopefully, Your tenants are gonna Live together,

So we have a variety Of different kinds Of schooling fish.

We have green chromis.

We have naso tangs, Which are called lipstick tangs.

Those guys come from hawaii.

We have Heniochus butterflies.

We have sailfin tangs,

And the reason We wanted to get those guys

Is 'cause they kind of Look like sailboats

When they have Their wings expanded.

Yeah, we have a stingray In there,

Which kind of gives you That wave effect.

But, once again, The ocean into the lobby.

Who took the master suite?

Imperator angel. It's called the king.

There's only one of them Inside the tank.

You can see it's the biggest Fish in the aquarium.

These are a lot of the species That you're gonna see

When you Actually go diving,

So you might recognize A lot of them.

I do.

Brett: this week, We did the impossible --

Pulled off two successful Installs in one day,

All thanks to me, soon-to-be Employee of the month.

The atm saltwater tank for djo Is 475 gallons,

Weighs 4,750 pounds,

And is themed to look like

Djo's state-of-the-art Iceman cold-therapy unit

With decals, hoses, facade, Canopy, and ice cubes.

For bella terra,

We built A luxurious saltwater tank

That brought the ocean indoors

For the residents of this Upscale apartment complex.

It's 1,300 gallons,

Weighs 13,000 pounds,

And has a 15-foot-long wave Front panel.

I put in the work.

Now it's time to claim My employee of the month prize.

Now we're here to announce The employee of the month.

But I don't want anyone Getting mad at anybody

Before I give The final decision.

You guys hear that? Nobody get mad.

Everyone feel good -- Like they earned it?
