Thank you.
OK, as you know, the church had to cancel the missionary trip
that we planned to Africa.
But our community is bigger than just the west side of Atlanta.
It's Darfur, it's Rwanda, it's Ethiopia.
So we have to do something to get
our missionaries over there.
OK, so what's our next step?
Well, it's more like a crawl, because we don't
have the funds for the project.
Hey, but wasn't there a fundraiser?
Yes, but those funds were used to raise the new roof.
You would not imagine how expensive those repairs were.
Yeah, but we really needed it.
I mean, a church is supposed to be holy,
but I don't think they were talking about the roof.
[laughs]
[laughs] OK, thank you.
Well, it's fixed, and I know that the pastor
is happy about that.
Hallelujah, hallelujah.
We-- we could go on the missionary trip next year.
No.
See, some of our brothers and sisters
may not even be alive next year, so we
have to do it now, which is I asked for you two
to come to this meeting.
I have done some research, and I found a nonprofit company that
sponsors this type of trip.
Oh.
And what they need from us is a presentation
that will give them details of our goals
and how we plan to reach them.
And what I need from you two--
Ah!
We could have a troupe of African dancers.
Janine, or-- or-- or--
It would be--
Or we could have a concert with Jay Z and Beyonce.
Oh-oh-- - Oh-oh.
Oh, oh no.
Oh-oh.
Or you two can just let me finish talking.
Thank you.
Or, we can give them a presentation
that is simple and creative and very informative.
Got it.
Got it.
OK, Janine, I want you to be in charge
of the creative aspect.
OK.
And Miranda, because you are so detail oriented,
I would love for you just to handle all of the details.
- Got it. - Got it.
Yes.
Listen, I would do it myself, but because I'm
corresponding with a sister church in Africa--
Don't worry.
Don't worry about it.
We've got it taken care of.
Thank you, thank you.
The rest of us, we need to be in a meeting with Pastor.
So please come, come, come.
Thank you.
I knew I could count on you two.
Got it.
OK.
Let me see here.
Ch-ch-ch.
Uh.
OK.
So Janine, I need a projector, a pointer, and a screen.
OK, so why are you telling me?
Oh, so you can go get it for me.
There's nothing creative in that.
Yes, but I'm the lead on this project,
and I need you to do this for me.
What makes you think you're the lead?
Hello.
Miss Ellis said that she wants me to handle details.
Ha, ha, I am the project manager.
Thus, the lead.
Oh.
Well, you better lead yourself to the store,
so you can get your own projector.
Have a nice day.
Love you, bye.
Just can't find good help these days.
Hey, hey.
But you know, you know what I don't understand?
If the church got a building fund, right?
Right?
Then how come they don't use the building
fund money to build a new roof?
Well, I think the pastor uses that money to buy his wife
a new hat every Sunday.
[laughs] Well, he need to buy her a veil.
Because that woman's face can scare the holy ghost.
Jesus.
Hey, guys.
Hey.
Hey, I didn't know you were coming up here.
Yeah, I just wanted to get started
on the sponsorship presentation before Miranda gets here.
What are you guys doing?
Getting ready for the presentation
before you got here.
What?
Who told you to do that?
Well, Miranda asked us to come help set up.
I thought you two were working together.
Huh.
No, I thought she was running it.
She's not running anything.
[scoffs] That ain't how she acted.
Her Move this.
Hang this.
Where's my change?
Yeah.
What is Miranda actually doing?
We're about to find out.
Hey, Janine.
Oh, don't hey Janine me.
You're trying to start this presentation without me.
Yeah, well, it looks like you were
trying to start without me.
Yeah.
It really does.
I called you, and you did not respond,
so I just figured, you know, you can drag
your feet on things sometimes.
I do not drag my feet.
OK?
I was going to start researching Ethiopian culture tomorrow.
Janine, the presentation is today.
It sure is.
I knew that.
Well, don't worry about it.
I think the sponsors will love what I put together.
Well, go on.
We'll see.
Oh, wait, wait, wait, wait.
Where are you going?
This poster is not going to hang itself.
It will today.
OK?
You do things your way, I'll do things mine.
CJ, Uncle Curtis, how about some pizza?
Well, pizza sounds good.
It ain't like Miranda's feeding us.
It's on me.
And once we finish with lunch, we will
get started on my presentation.
OK.
[phone ringing]
Help Center.
Oh!
Mm.
Oh, hi.
Yes.
Yes.
We can do the presentation at 2:00 instead.
Well, I'll let everyone know.
I'll see you then.
Bye.
Heh, heh, or not.
So how did you do with your English homework?
Um, OK.
I was just having a-- you know-- hard time getting
into "Wuthering Heights."
If a woman doesn't want you, gotta let her go.
Well, I see you haven't been taking that advice.
And I still see you have not taken that off.
Yeah.
I-- I hadn't even noticed I was still wearing it.
Well, now you know.
I mean, Malik, what are you waiting for?
It's been weeks, bro.
She's gone.
Look, I will deal with that in my own time.
In my own way.
Well, you know what I just thought of?
A theme for my essay.
Denial.
One man's journey from summer to winter.
You know, that's actually pretty deep.
Malik, it saddens me that you don't think more of me.
I mean, come on.
I'm not just some shallow jerk.
Damn!
Thickness at 12 o'clock.
What?
You have to admit, she's gorgeous.
She is pretty fly.
Yo.
I think you should try it.
I-- I don't think I should.
I-- I've got a lot of studying to do.
Denial.
Not just a river in Egypt.
All right.
All right, fine.
I'll go get her.
Hey, hey, hey.
How are you doing?
I know you who don't know me, but I have
a guy who you need to meet.
OK? You've just got to come with me.
Trust me.
OK.
So what would you say to his phone number, a hot date,
and a dose of regret.
You'll have to excuse my friend.
He's not used to being around beautiful women.
Nice.
Here you go.
Hi.
I'm Malik.
What's your name?
Ariel.
Well, nice to meet you, Ariel.
I was wondering if we could get together for coffee sometime?
I have a study group right now,
but we should be done about 7:00.
7:00. Oh.
All right. Yeah.
Yeah, that's great.
So I can see you then? - Yeah.
All right.
Cool.
I just got a date with a hot girl.
Ooh.
Who's in denial now?
So you're over Summer now.
Shut up.
So now, Mr. Parks, we've reached
the most exciting part of the presentation, transportation.
[snoring]
Uh, where's Janine?
[snoring]
Now that we've established the best kind of shoe laces
for the Ethiopian terrain, let's go on to the weather
patterns this time of year.
Page 32, please.
What is this?
Thank God you are here.
Miranda, baby, you-- you-- you-- you were very informative.
Mr. Parks, you look like you could use some coffee.
[inaudible] please.
OK, what's going on, am I late?
I thought we were starting at 4:00.
Oh, Janine, I am so sorry.
I meant to tell you that the meeting
was rescheduled for 2:00.
Sure you did.
Yeah.
I just got so, so busy, you know,
setting up here all by myself.
Well, if you had included me, you wouldn't have had to do all
that setting up by yourself.
But Janine, the problem was, you didn't want to be included,
you wanted to run things.
- I wanted to run things? - Yes.
- I wanted to run things. - Yes.
You wanted to run things.
Small wonder you were going in.
Are you serious right now?
[interposing voices]
Ooh, I'm Miranda.
Wait, wait.
You did not.
Excuse me, sir. I'm so sorry.
Please.
Listen, I-- I just want to say one thing to Mr. Parks.
Really? Really?
You see what you did?
You didn't even research on the right day.
I was going to. You didn't give me a chance.
What in the world?
You've gotta let people sleep.
[inaudible]
Now see what you did, Janine?
Now this is all my fault. This is my fault?
I'm sorry, but Mr. Parks was probably
bored to sleep listening to you go on and on about
black versus brown shoelaces.
Excuse me, that is very important.
Oh yeah, especially when lined up with disease, malaria--
[interposing voices]
You know what?
You know what?
[interposing voices]
Could you two just stop it?
I hope you're happy.
We were denied our sponsorship.
So what can we do?
Nothing.
Nothing.
You two have done enough.
I don't need you to do another thing for me.
OK.
You know what?
It's completely my fault. As project manager--
You were not manager.
What about that don't you get?
Miss Ella, will you please tell her that I was in charge?
No.
Thank you.
No.
I meant for the two of you to work together.
You were supposed to use your special gifts and do this--
you know what?
And your little egos had to get in the way.
Excuse me.
Miss Ella, I'm sorry.
So like other churches and charters.
Internal fighting just destroys the whole purpose.
And what's the purpose, Ella?
Helping people. - But we--
But we?
People are over there dying, Miranda.
And you two are over here bickering
about who's going to push the button on the projector.
Thanks a lot.
Can I say something?
I think we've heard enough.
But were you listening?
Aunt Ella is like my mother.
and she spent her whole life trying
to make sure that egos do not get
in the way of helping people.
Now her own family has messed that up.
[sighs]
You two need to fix this.
Mm, I guess we really messed up, huh?
Yeah, we did.
What a waste.
Psh.
I know.
You know, I had done all these expense
reports, with pie charts, and we didn't even get to them.
I was not talking about the six pages of pie charts.
I meant the whole thing.
We had an opportunity to launch something
that could have really made a difference in so many lives.
You're right.
And we couldn't just get along.
It's too late now.
Well, maybe it's not.
What if I say something wrong?
I mean, you know I've been out of the game for a while now.
Really, Malik?
It's only been a few months.
Yeah, I know.
But still, you know what I'm talking about.
look man, it's simple.
Be nice, but kind of me.
Stand her up at least twice, and make
promises you don't intend to keep.
Yo, you're no good with the girls, are you?
Yeah, we've already established that.
Oh.
Hi.
Hey, Ariel.
You look wonderful, as usual.
She looks the same as she did earlier.
[thump]
Ow!
You'll have to excuse my friend.
Not every man is as smooth as I am.
gold luck with thickness.
Two coffees, please.
So what year are you?
I'm a freshman.
What about you?
I'm a freshman too.
Have you picked a major yet?
Psychology.
Well, are you getting any impressions from me?
You seem kind of nervous.
Me? Nervous?
No.
No.
It's OK.
I'm a little nervous too.
I haven't been dating much.
That's hard to believe, Summer.
Summer?
Uh, is my favorite season.
What's your favorite season?
What are we doing?
I don't know.
I didn't want to come either.
You can't get no sleep here with Miranda and Janine assisting.
Miss Ella, we really want to apologize to you again.
It's OK.
We know you wanted us to do this presentation,
and we blew it.
Boy, did you ever.
[inaudible] Mr. Parks made it quite clear that
we were denied the sponsorship.
But we called and convinced him to give us a second chance.
I hope you guys are not going to waste this man's time.
Hey!
Did you bring your pillow?
Curtis.
Just have a seat.
Hi.
Thank you for coming.
This better be good.
Ethiopia is the second poorest country in the world,
with about 12 million people having unreliable access
to food sources.
Having very little rainfall, drought and famine
are constant threats, and only 22% of its citizens
have access to improved water conditions.
A disproportionate amount of Ethiopia
lacks the infrastructure to provide houses and schools.
Many people sleep in the same room with their livestock.
Our church would like to send a group
of teachers, doctors, and engineers
to help aid the people of Ethiopia.
And Mr. parks, with the help of your company,
we can make that happen.
[humming] Great presentation.
Well, thank you.
Same to you.
Thank you.
Mr. Parks even stayed awake this time.
He wasn't the only one.
Well?
Well.
So?
Thank you for everything.
We got the funding.
[screams]
Funding!
We got it!
Oh my gosh!
Now we can get the African troupe to dance.
We can do all of it.
I've got banners and signs and stuff.
Good.
Now can we get some sleep?
Hit the light, baby.
Oh, uh, Ariel.
Um, hold up.
Hold up.
Look, Malik, you obviously have some repressed
emotions about someone.
Huh?
Is Summer your ex?
Yeah.
She is.
How did you know?
Well, I didn't notice it at first,
but you're wearing a ring.
Yeah.
I guess that does kind of gave it away.
Why are you still wearing it?
I don't know.
I guess it's the only thing I have left of our relationship.
I'm sorry I called you Summer.
I know I really blew it.
It's OK.
I understand.
Yeah.
You told me that.
What did you mean?
Well, me and my ex broke up a few months ago,
and it was hard.
Oh, well, tell me about it.
Sad songs.
Yeah, I made a playlist.
Lonely nights.
I know about those too.
All I wanted to do was eat chocolate ice cream.
Yes.
Actually, I prefer sorbet, but.
But eventually, I got over it.
Yeah.
I guess I'm just not there yet.
But you will be.
So don't worry.
And the day that happens, you give me a call.
Whoever Summer was, she's crazy.
If you had been mine, I would have never let you go.
Well, thanks, Ariel.
I'll see you around.
All right.
So you finally took the ring off.
Yeah, man.
It was about time.
And you know what?
I actually don't need your help with the ladies anymore.
Oh, really?
So you're bad now?
Well, I don't mean to sound arrogant,
but I could pull any girl in here.
Hm, is that so?
Well, let's see what you got.
Ahem.
Um, excuse me, Summer?
You're really not that good with women.
Hi I'm Keshia Knight Pulliam.
And I'm Demetria McKinney.
People in many poor countries around the world are suffering.
In just six African countries, including Somalia, Ethiopia,
and Sudan, 4.6 million people are currently suffering
from drought and famine.
Do what you can.
The characters we play volunteer at the Help Center.
Take time to volunteer at your community charity center
too, but don't stop there.
Remember, we're all part of a global community.
Make a donation.
Sign up for a mission trip if you can.
But whatever you do, please don't just sit by and watch.
