[Practice Daughter]

[Adapted from An Yimo's original novel, The Charming Thief Princess]

[Episode 17]

Is Mei Yushan here?

Your Majesty,

I could tell that you weren't very satisfied

with Miss Mei's performance yesterday.

How about we don't ask her to come today?

As long as the Crown Prince stays single,

the officials will not stop giving him a hard time.

For the sake of her defending my son at the execution ground,

I will spend some time training her.

If she can have good manners after being trained,

I may choose her to be the Crown Princess.

It can also stop the officials from impeaching my son.

Miss Mei is here.

Greetings, Your Majesty.

You may rise.

Have you finished

the task I gave you yesterday?

Your Majesty,

I've already finished it.

Stay back.

Your Majesty, you're holding it upside down.

Do you think I don't know that?

I don't need you to tell me.

Are they mandarin ducks?

They are clearly a pair of geese.

Besides,

why is there a flower?

Your Majesty, this one's a female mandarin duck.

Absurd.

We're not selecting the beauties.

Who cares if it's a female?

It is important. Have a look, Your Majesty.

This female one has more fat,

which makes it perfect for soup.

The male one's meat is firmer,

which makes it good for stir-frying.

Stop talking nonsense.

Look at you now.

You stand there with no elegance,

and you have no manners at all.

Eunuch Song.

Bring the vases.

What are these for?

For you to carry it on your head.

Do you know why I want you

to carry this Dragon-patterned Jade Vase on your head?

I don't.

To carry it on your head, you must restrict your movements.

It's not as easy to be the Crown Princess as you think.

I must tell you

that this is the most expensive vase in my palace.

You should feel honored that I allow you to carry it.

Do you understand?

I do.

I...

I just wanted to nod.

You...

Continue.

Your Majesty, should we continue?

Go and find some cheap and solid ones.

Go.

Wait.

Miss Mei.

Not this one.

These two are a couple.

- Give it to me. - Not this one.

- I don't believe this. - Miss Mei.

Yao, are you all right?

I am fine.

Your Highness, forgive me.

Hurry to clean these up and leave.

You may leave.

Hurry up.

Hurry. Hurry.

Yao, how come you're available to visit me today?

I am not busy today.

So I'm here to visit you.

Offer His Highness some tea.

You must be exhausted.

Would you like some tea?

I am not thirsty.

I dare not drink it.

Drink if you're thirsty.

Don't make the Crown Prince feel like I'm abusing you.

These two cups are only for His Highness.

It's fine.

You can use mine.

Your Majesty,

things have been prepared as you asked.

Bring them up.

Miss Mei,

I've heard that you're good at Four Arts.

Choose one to show me your ability.

I am doomed anyway.

Whatever.

If the Crown Prince feels ill,

just go back early and get some rest.

Checkmate.

What's wrong?

I'm wrong again?

More than just wrong.

You took Her Majesty's black piece.

Yours are white.

Mei...

People like her

are never going to be the Crown Princess.

Thank you, Little Master.

If it weren't for you,

I wouldn't be able to get away with it.

Weiqi is very simple.

I'll teach you some other day.

Thank you, Little Master.

You're like Little Diviner

always helping me out.

Uhh...I've arrived.

I'm going in.

I shouldn't rub it in.

She keeps talking about Bai Ye.

Does she want me to be as gentle

as Bai Ye?

Am I being gentle enough?

How about this?

And this?

Your Highness,

is this stone not symmetrical?

I'll make it symmetrical right away.

No need.

Uhh...

Study hard later.

Here we are.

Little Diviner.

Little Master?

Why is it you?

What?

Is Bai Ye the only one

who can wear white in the palace?

That's not what I mean.

Let's go.

I will go to the Academy with you today.

Oh, no. Yao is mad.

[Chongwen Academy]

- Can you... - What's...

- memorize all these? - on your paper?

Everybody, please be quiet.

What is all this?

Three days later comes the Double-Seventh Day.

There will be one day off at Chongwen Academy.

And you're allowed to go out to attend temple fairs.

Finally.

Finally, I can leave the palace.

I'll sneak back to the Black Dog Alley that day

and visit my three fathers.

Yes, one day off.

Your Highness.

How are things going?

At Your Highness's command,

it's all been arranged.

However,

all shops want to make money on the Double-Seventh Day.

That street

will cost you this much.

Do I look like a poor man to you?

Don't let Douzi find out.

Yes, Your Highness.

Mr. Bai, did you foresee anything?

Jixi will be destroyed.

His Highness will be exiled.

Are you sure not to report this

to the Crown Prince and the Empress?

Are you trying to protect Miss Mei?

But don't forget, Mr. Bai.

That maid was brought to the palace by Miss Mei.

If she deliberately covers up for that maid...

Impossible.

Why would Douzi want to hurt His Highness?

Since you know Douzi wouldn't hurt the Crown Prince,

then why don't we report it?

If I turn in the maid,

no matter what,

Douzi will be implicated in it.

Then I'll be the person

who put her into such chaos.

Even if the Crown Prince believes her,

what about the Empress?

So no matter what,

this must stay only between the two of us.

Yes.

We cannot wait any longer.

To protect the Crown Prince

and not get Douzi involved,

this is the only way.

Only after she dies,

can the Crown Prince and Douzi

be safe.

Mr. Bai,

leave such bloody stuff

to me to do it.

On the night of the Double-Seventh Day,

there'll be a lot of people, which will make things easy.

I'll make the arrangements.

If I were caught,

I wouldn't say that you were the one who told me to do so.

Lingxiao...

Mr. Bai, you have someone you want to protect.

So do I.

Look at that beautiful lantern.

What is that food?

Why do I want to eat as soon as I come out?

Forget it. I've gained too much weight lately.

Come here.

That man is so handsome.

Tell him for me

that I'd like to meet him.

Go.

No.

Just go.

No.

Go.

Please.

Mister.

Look over there...

Okay?

He's looking at me.

At me!

He's looking at me.

He's looking at me.

Check out the fine spices.

How did it go?

I told him

one of my friends wanted to meet him.

And then?

Then

he said

he would also like to get to know...

Me.

You bad girl.

Did you say something bad about me?

I did. So what?

- I did. - Did you?

Stop right there.

- Bad girl. - You two, stop fighting.

It's you again.

Trying to get free food again?

If you don't have any money, then leave.

What are you looking at?

I'm talking about you.

Why do you accuse me of something I didn't do?

You didn't do?

I've run the stall on this street for three years.

And you've come to get free food for three years.

You've always said you would pay back next time.

But never did that happen.

Will you shut your mouth now?

Of course.

Miss, what would you like to eat?

I'll have ten ones with sesame paste and ten ones with garlic.

Sure.

Also,

speak nicely to her in the future.

All right. I got it.

I've been as blind as a bat.

I've failed to recognize a great person.

You've been coming here for three years.

Be quick.

I'll pick them up later.

Okay.

With or without chili?

Want some scallions?

They'll be ready soon.

Miss, please help me.

I need food.

Miss, please save my little sister.

What happened to her?

She has got a cold.

She's lying in the alley up ahead.

Miss, come with me.

Do you want this one?

Look at this. Take a look.

Look at this.

Miss, hurry.

They all are.

Just up ahead.

Miss, hurry up.

My little sister is very sick.

Hurry, Miss.

Let me go.

Let me go.

If you don't let me go, I'll make you suffer.

Xingshi?

Miss, hurry.

I can't go with you.

Go get a physician.

Let me go.

Let me go. Put me down.

Let's go.

I'll give you money if you want it.

But if you want something else, you're done.

Who?

Who did this?

Who?

Where are they?

Did I scare them away?

Did I scare them away?

Look at our good silk.

This is beautiful.

I'll buy you one if you want.

How much is this?

Kites.

This one maybe.

How much does this one cost?

What color is it?

That tooth looks so familiar.

It hurts.

You really pulled it out, bad girl.

I'm your father.

First Father.

Third Father.

Second Father.

This is indeed my daughter.

She recognized me with just a gold tooth.

I've got presents for you.

I looked forward to leaving the palace for so long

just to see you.

It's like God was helping me.

Did the wishes

I secretly made to the Bodhisattva come true?

Douzi,

I think

the Crown Prince is really nice.

You and him...

We agree.

What do you mean?

Silly girl,

don't you wonder

why we could show up here

and meet you?

Didn't you notice

that this place was arranged for you by the Crown Prince?

He rented the whole street for you

trying to create an opportunity

for us to have a special reunion.

Look around if you don't believe me.

Greetings, Miss.

I'd marry her.

I have found the Princess.

What? Really?

After all these years,

we finally found her.

Princess?

Which Princess is Xingshi talking about?

But the Princess is in the palace.

It is very dangerous.

Young General, do you know the Princess's name

and her current identity?

Her name is Douzi.

She is the Grand Chancellor's daughter now.

What?

How... How could she be the Grand Chancellor's daughter?

It is a long story.

It has something to do with the Moon Spirit Pearl.

Our priority now

is to get the Princess and her maid out of the palace

as soon as possible.

The Princess's maid?

Yes.

What is going on?

I don't think it's a complicated situation.

It's just in your self-interest.

Isn't that Su Ruomei's maid, Que?

If you can't get over it,

you don't have to get involved in the future.

Who's there?

Now that you've seen it.

I have nothing to hide anymore.

They call me Young General

because my father

was the Great General of Shengdong.

Was he...

Yes.

The one who fulfilled the prophecy

by killing Nangong Yu.

He was Shengdong's Great General Xuan Bing.

I've been concealing my identity for years

and staying in Jixi

for only one purpose.

To find our missing Princess.

So you became the Crown Prince's guard

because of Bai Ye's prophecy?

Yes.

I'd been looking for years

but never found anything.

I had no choice

but to stay by the side of Nangong Yao

as a guard.

Are you sure the Princess

you talked about is Douzi?

When the Princess was little,

I saw the fishtail-shaped mark on her.

And in the box in the Black Dog Alley,

I also found things

the Princess had gone missing with.

At first,

I thought you were the Princess.

Who would've known

that Douzi is the Princess of Shengdong?

No wonder

you cared that much about me.

Miss Mei, don't get me wrong.

I cared about you

not just because I thought you were the Princess.

Actually, I am...

I...

But how did you find out

about Douzi and me switching bodies?

Do you remember when you asked me

why I knew those three people were

Douzi's fathers?

And in the Guixiu Pavilion,

on the night I delivered you medicine,

I heard you and the Princess talking

about trying to switch again.

I didn't believe any of that at first.

But then I went to someone

from whom I got the confirmation

that the Moon Spirit Pearl could indeed cause people to switch bodies.

Then I confirmed my suspicion.

You are telling me

all of these things...

Mei, don't worry.

I would never hurt you.

And I know

even if you know all about this,

you won't tell anyone.

I'm sure you understand

if Douzi is the Princess of Shengdong,

what will happen to her?

Then what about Que?

Que is also my guard.

She had a misunderstanding with you earlier.

But it will never happen again.

Now the Moon Spirit Pearl is broken.

I'm afraid Douzi and I can't switch our bodies back.

What are you going to do?

In fact, I've also been worried all this time.

I worry if the Princess's identity gets revealed,

the whole Jixi palace

will be the most dangerous place for her.

If it happens,

we won't be able to survive.

So I've decided

to secretly take you out of the palace.

Absolutely no.

Do you know what you're talking about?

You're going to hurt Douzi.

I would never hurt her.

You will have new identities.

We've got former subordinates of Shengdong out here.

As soon as we get out of the city,

someone will come to pick us up.

After we get back to Shengdong,

no matter how many soldiers Jixi has,

they won't be able to find two girls

who have completely changed their appearances

and blended in people.

Don't worry.

Everything I do

is to protect the Princess.

And now

I have one more person to protect.

It's you.

So would you like to leave with me?

If you say yes,

I'll give my life to get you out of here

and keep you safe.

Now that you know who I am.

You should also know that my father is the Grand Chancellor of Jixi.

As the Grand Chancellor's daughter,

how can I elope with the Young General of an enemy country?

See me back to the Eastern Palace.

I need to wait for Douzi.

Okay.

Let's go.

I've been thinking about it for days.

I have a question for you.

It's a little embarrassing to say,

but I have to ask.

Would you like

to stay with me forever?

What do you mean by that?

Just...

Literal meaning.

I...

You what?

I...
