Mmm. Num-num-num.
- Ooh, scrumptious. - [clears throat]
- Your ridiculous... - [squeaks]
- ...soft sculpture is in my seat. - [toy squeaks]
Please excuse my rude friend, Lady Toonington.
He means no ill will.
Lady Toonington? From Toonington Heights?
Uh-huh. I made her as an homage to my favorite character
- on my favorite show. - Television?
Film is for real artists, and I know just the masterpiece we should see.
It's called Le Petit Toon. [smacks lips]
It's in black and white, has subtitles,
and then a second set of subtitles
that defines all the words you didn't know in the first subtitles.
I bought us all tickets
that I fully expect to be reimbursed for.
- [smacks] - Hmm?
Ooh, buddy, my pally. [chuckles]
I already planned a stargazing hike for us to all watch the blood moon.
- Ugh. Cancel it. - What do you think?
Sorry. Too late to cancel!
- [clangs] - That's a rain check for the movie.
[raging]
[explodes]
- [grunting] - You okay, Plucky?
It was my turn to pick a group activity!
And now suddenly, everyone is busy doing something Buster picked out.
- This happened last time! - Huh. It did?
- I keep records. Lil' Sneezer. - [chair wheels squeaking]
Please read back the transcript of January 7th.
Ahem. "Plucky, 'Let's start a book club with only books of my choosing.'
Buster, ' Or we could give away waffles in the quad.'
Plucky, 'But it's my turn to pick.'
Sweetie, 'Every toon deserves carbs with butter pockets.'
Hamton, 'Does this look infected?'"
Okay, so one time we chose my idea over yours.
- Sneezer! - "February 27th, 02:12 p.m.
Plucky, 'I know. Let's plant kumquat trees in the quad,
since they never have them at the grocery store.'
- Buster, 'Or we can play hide and seek poker.'" - [cards ruffling]
"Hamton, 'Do you ever wonder where sock designers get their ideas?'
Plucky, 'Hide and seek poker doesn't make any sense.
It's my turn to pick.'
- Babs, 'Let's do the poker.'" - [chair wheels squeaking]
Okay, so we chose Buster's idea over yours two times.
Ha! Just two times!
[exclaims in disgust]
- Sneezer? - "March 12th, at ironically 3:12 p.m.-"
- Don't editorialize. - Sorry.
"Plucky, 'I suggest that every time a student gets an A,
I play my novelty Congratulations song.'
? Hey there, Lucky Congrats from Plucky! ?
Buster, 'Or we reward students with tiny pony rides
because tiny ponies are cool.'"
And the list goes on and on and on.
There is no way to win an argument
- against tiny pony rides. - [trumpets sounding]
I seek the one and only Pluciferous Von Mallard Duck.
Oh, that's me.
Is this is about my illicit activity on the Duck Web?
I can explain everything.
You have been chosen by a time honored and foolproof system
of a random lottery to be the new king of Bourney Quack.
A random lottery?
All hail King Plucky!
You know how long I've dreamed of this moment?
I mean, not really this particular one,
'cause I didn't even know I could be king via random selection.
But I got what's rightfully mine.
Your transportation approaches, Your Highness.
"Your Highness"!
Three cheers for King Plucky,
- and our condolences to his subjects. - [giggle]
[mumbling] You will not be so smug when we get to my kingdom, Buster.
Uh, what's that you're mumbling through gritted teeth?
[in normal voice] You will not be so smug when we get to my kingdom, Buster.
You gotta enunciate, Plucky. It's the whole key to communication.
Your horse and carriage, my lord.
[wheels squeaking]
[gasps]
[chuckles] Okay, this is so exciting.
Our first friend to be crowned king!
A monarchy is just a dictatorship with a baby in charge.
- [baby crying] - [bell dings]
No way, Buster.
[gasps]
This is a seat for the king's rump only.
Regarding the front seat, Your Royal Duckness,
the road to Bourney Quack is unpaved.
- [exclaims] - The king has spoken.
To Bourney Quack!
[Plucky grunting]
- [Plucky grunting] - [carriage thudding]
- [groaning] - Plucky, I can sit up front.
No, no, I am very comfortable.
- [splatters] - [exclaims]
Aw, makes me think of home.
You got a little something right here.
Ugh! [grunts]
Thank you, Archibald.
Now, for my first order as king,
- we shall dine on brownies- - [munches]
...in front of a freshly lit fire, as I try on different crowns.
Doesn't that sound fun?
Yeah, yeah.
Or, you got anything fun here?
Like a regional potato chip flavor?
Why, yes.
Fungal pod and mutton.
Okay. [crunches]
[gasps] Okay! [crunches] Mmm. Now that's exciting.
Do what you want, but according to my watch, it's chip o'clock.
- Well, according to my watch- - [all exclaiming]
- [door slams] - Oh!
I guess Buster's the only one with good ideas.
Would you like me to force them back to bend to your will?
This is your kingdom after all, Your Highness.
Yes, yes. This is my kingdom.
I am the king!
And everyone must do what I want! [chuckles]
[laughing maniacally]
[evil laughter echoes]
Just like Toonington Heights.
You could get lost in all these wall tapestries. [giggles]
This way to your royal quarters.
I'd love a king's briefing on the goings on of the kingdom.
Well, Your Highness, it is a rather standard monarchy.
We're dealing with warring factions,
vitamin C deficiency,
and a rather intense bedbug infestation.
Problems, problems, problems.
What's the bubble bath situation here?
- [metal slicing] - [grunting] En garde!
- [grunts] - [helmet crashes]
There's so much to do here.
[clears throat] And we will start
with one of my most ingenious ideas,
not one of Buster's.
As king, I decree, we must all join my book club curated by me,
starting with Thank Your Plucky Stars.
- [all groaning] - [books thud]
- [metal clangs] - Ooh.
No way am I sitting inside
- when there's an archery field out there. - [glass shatters]
- [book whirring] - [arrow rebounds]
[spectators murmur]
Hey! [grunts]
Ugh, it is so hard to stomp in a robe.
Get back here and do my idea.
- [exclaims] - [thuds]
- [groans] I'm the king. - [thuds]
You have to! [exclaims]
I'm not one of your subjects.
I'm your friend-ish.
- [heavy metal music playing] - Down with the king. Down with the monarchy!
- [heavy metal stops] - How dare you speak to the king in such a manner?
Archibald!
What do we do with those who do not bend the knee?
Schedule them an appointment with the orthopedist.
No, I meant the figurative knee.
Oh. [chuckles]
Throw them in the dungeon!
Hey! Where... [exclaims]
Make her read my book.
Make the entire kingdom read my book.
And those who refuse shall suffer under my rule.
[laughs maniacally]
Oh, yes, we must.
[piano music playing]
[in English accent] I do say, Lady Toonington,
your music is a warm ray of sunshine to my ears.
[gasps] You flatter me too much.
May I have this dance?
- [kisses] - [giggles]
It's not often a lady is as taken with a ham of such esteem.
Oh, no! There's been quite the mistake.
My understanding was this was a dance among friends.
[exclaims] A misunderstanding, indeed.
- [rattling] - [Sweetie grunting]
What did I do?
You defied the king's orders.
King? You pulled his name
- out of a hat. - I beg your pardon?
We pulled his name out of a gold- encrusted spinning cage with a crank.
Haven't you ever heard of voting?
Voting?
Yes. How Toons pick their leader.
It's a way for communities to assert their power.
Exhausting. We choose a leader in less than a minute,
and then everyone can go back to their stifled existence.
[yawning, smacking lips]
- So, first the fungal pod hits you, and then- - [in normal voice] The mutton.
Not sure how they did it, but they really did it.
[Babs yawns] Morning, everyone.
Hope you slept well. I didn't.
Anyone get the sense that there's, like, things in your bed?
Yeah.
Bed, uh, bugs.
Ugh.
- Where's Sweetie? - Probably yelling at a tree
for taking up too much space.
That does track.
But you, Babs Bunny, are just the toon I wanted to see.
It's never good when he singles someone out.
As a reward for tucking perfect hospital corners on your bed this morning,
I will play this celebratory song by me.
? Hey there, Lucky Congrats from Plucky ?
- Or you could go with... - [snaps fingers]
[orchestral music playing]
? Nothing in history has ever topped this ?
? A bed of such neatness cannot be missed ?
? And it's all ?
? Because of you ?
- [fireworks bursting] - [both cheering]
Ahem. [whispers] Dungeon.
Just good to have options. [crunches]
Well done, Buster. Once again, you have one-upped me.
Winnie, we must reward Buster, mustn't we?
[in normal voice] Indeed.
Ooh! That sounds exciting.
Right this way.
[hooves clattering]
Hey, what the...
I want speakers installed at every corner
so that the villagers will hear my congratulatory ditty
whenever good deeds are accomplished.
Yes, my liege.
I'll add it to my never ending to do list.
Really? A dungeon?
No toon should ever sing a more thought out song than the king.
He's not a king.
His name is Plucky Duck, and he toots in his sleep!
[harmonica playing]
Have you been down here long enough to grow that beard?
Nah, it's a dungeon and a costume storage room.
Wanna tell me what's going on here?
Winnie is being bossed around
by a randomly selected, unqualified tyrant.
But Bourney Quack's been ruled for centuries under a monarchy.
And how's that working out for you?
Your country's leading export is stock photos of sad toons.
[melancholy music plays]
I don't take advice on liberty from traitors to the throne.
- [scoffs] - [Sweetie] That's exactly who
you should be taking advice from.
- [door slams] - [Sweetie] Doesn't anyone understand
how to do an uprising around here?
[Archibald humming]
- [vocalizing] - [Hamton stammers]
Thanks for having us for this feast, Plucky. [chuckles]
Huh? Talk into the microphone.
- [clicks] - Thank you for having us for this feast.
Thank you for joining me.
It means a lot to have my friends here doing things I want to do.
Where's Buster?
He, uh, wanted to help a small woodland creature learn how to do a somersault.
That tracks.
He'll be here soon. [chuckles] Bon Appetit!
Your royal kumquats.
That's right. I had kumquat trees planted all over the kingdom.
Just as I had planned to do at Acme Loo.
But unlike campus, everyone here likes my ideas
because they have to. Now you may eat.
Something wrong with your dinner, Babs?
I don't understand why you like these.
Has nobody ever told you about oranges?
So to be clear, you won't be eating my favorite fruit today.
I guess not.
[snaps fingers]
- [gasps] - Take Hamton, too.
He hasn't defied me,
but he and the doll are giving off real weird vibes.
[Hampton muffled] Lady Toonington!
Oh, thank you.
- [thuds] - [exclaims]
- [thuds] - [grunts]
Hi, everyone.
- Cool costumes. - [Buster clicks tongue]
[lock clicks]
Winnie! Winnie! Take this.
I wrote everything you need to know about democracy
on this circus clown costume.
Your voice deserves to be heard!
My voice? What do I have to say?
That we need to end the war between families in this village?
Exterminate the bedbugs,
and end Bourney Quack's Vitamin C deficiency?
Yes, yes, and yes!
Nay. And I mean that, like, "No" and not like the horse noise.
I'm perfectly happy fulfilling the nonsensical whims
of an inexperienced figurehead. [grunts]
[door slams]
I feel like the message is seeping in.
None of this makes sense.
I was just doing what I always do.
Casual leans, big bunny energy.
And bam! We're locked in a dungeon. For what?
His feelings are hurt that we never do his ideas.
But I think we would have eventually, right, Babs?
[hesitating] Yeah. Right, Sweetie?
Yeah. Right, Hamton?
Oh, we came full circle.
No. Sorry. Wrong.
We were never gonna do Plucky's ideas.
Yeah, 'cause they're weird and terrible.
Oh, and ours aren't?
Remember when Buster invented rock paper sandwich?
- Dizzy liked it. - And the rest of us played along.
Except when they're Plucky's ideas.
Well, he didn't have to be a ding dong doo-doo head and throw us in the dungeon.
He's not being a ding dong doo-doo head.
We're the ding dong doo-doo heads.
[gasps] Language, in front of the gentle lady.
[pen scratching]
- Ugh. - Costumes for your new friends, sire.
Yes.
Who needs toon friends when you can have pillows in toon clothing?
- Are these feather pillows? - Yes.
The horror! [exclaims]
When we are done, I need these replaced with shredded foam.
- Yes, my king. - [sniffs]
- Is this from the dungeon? - Yes, my king.
[inhaling deeply]
Ah, they smell like my friends.
Your pillow friends or your toon friends?
My toon friends.
What are they, uh, doing down there in the dungeon?
Mastering harmonica.
And discussing all the ways they've been bad friends to you.
They are?
By royal proclamation, I am not allowed to lie to the king.
Hmm.
I wish I could hear what they're saying about me.
Maybe I can.
[harmonica playing]
[Plucky clears throat]
[in English accent] Hello. Me name is, uh, Ladislas.
I am but a simple peasant.
So, thrown in the dungeon by King Plucky, eh?
He's a fair and honest king.
But that's just me simple peasant opinion.
We're worried we'll never have the chance
to apologize to him for being bad friends.
I'm a simple peasant and new to this situation,
but what do you think you did wrong?
If I had to guess, probably chronically ignoring his ideas.
He didn't have to act like a tyrant,
but that doesn't excuse our behavior.
Oh! King Plucky is very handsome,
but it was... [in normal voice] I'm now realizing
very wrong of him to send you all here to rot
amongst the wettest stones I've ever seen.
- [grunts] - [splashes]
[chuckles] [in English accent] But that's just the opinion of me,
a simple peasant.
Maybe we could break out of here and, uh,
go apologize to the great King Plucky.
Anyone got a great idea that won't be ignored this time?
Uh... [exclaims]
New guy. How about you?
You seem like you're oozing with some thoughts.
[grunting]
I think we should make a key.
That's what a simple peasant would do.
[all] Mmm-hmm.
[all] Mmm.
[all groan]
[metal clanging]
[all chuckling, exclaiming]
[lock clicks]
It worked!
Hurray for Ladislas.
What a great idea.
You admit it was a good idea?
And little did you know that all along I am actually...
[in normal voice] Plucky Duck, King of Bourney Quack,
Your Royal Highness of good ideas. [chuckles]
- [all gasp] - Oh, wow.
Oh, my! Lady Toonington, did you know anything about this?
You knew it was Plucky the whole time, right?
Of course I did, Babso. Of course I did.
And I apologize for throwing you all in here.
It didn't take long for me to...
[sniffles] ...miss you!
- Aw, Plucky. - [Plucky sobbing]
It's so uncomfortable when you cry.
- [Plucky wailing] - [water splashing]
[panting] My liege, I bear good news.
You have solved the kingdom's most challenging problems.
Of course I have. Now explain to me how I did it.
Your insistence upon planting kumquat trees,
well, it solved our vitamin C deficiency.
I knew it.
Uh, what else have I done?
The song that we played throughout the kingdom
was so horrifying to the bedbugs, that they fled to the sea.
- [tires screeching] - They are now sea bugs!
I feel like there was an insult buried in there, but okay.
And the warring factions have now united over one common emotion.
Love of their king?
No. Hatred of your book. Look.
[all cheering]
Plucky, looks like your ideas have changed this place,
in a very strange and roundabout way.
Yes, I have made a difference.
And for the biggest difference of all.
[crowd clamoring]
Down with the monarchy!
Democracy now!
- [crowd clamoring] - Winnie, did you do this?
Oi, I did. Got some help
from a little feathered friend of mine.
Baby's first revolution.
- I'm so proud. - Me too!
But you should all leave before it gets ugly.
I'm not leaving. You can't make me.
- I'm- - [door slams]
Well, at least I get to keep the crown.
This belongs to the people.
Yes! Yes, it does!
[grunts]
[theme music playing]
