It's theft recovery,
but what about the title?

Is it salvage title?

I've got no paperwork on the car.

The guy that dropped it off
to me on consignment

bought it at a police auction,

and he's still waiting
to get all the paperwork.

I just wanted to make sure
you guys seen it first.

Obviously, there isn't
a lot of parts missing,

so they didn't get too far
in stripping it down.

That's a good thing.

[Mark] What's the price on what's left?

Right now, he wants $60,000 for the car.

So, 60 grand.
Is that contingent on a clean title?

Sixty grand's contingent on a clean title,

but we're gonna have to wait
about two weeks

till the guy gets the paperwork.

If it comes back clean, it's golden.

[Nick] Graham selling this car
on consignment for another owner

makes this deal slightly muddy.

He's obviously still waiting
on some important information.

Plus, even though
Graham is acting as the broker,

the owner of the car
will have the final say over the sale.

But 60 grand's a steal for a Ferrari.

And if we can make all this work,

profit margins on a project like this
are gonna be insane for us.

So, obviously, what's left of the car
is in really good shape,

but it definitely has
a couple hiccups in it

that could be potentially pretty big.

So, uh, do you mind

Well, that's a tidbit of information
that goes a long way.

Look, Ferraris are my world, but I...

Salvaged titles, theft recovery,
that's... that's not my thing.

On a car like this, man.
That's the big if right here.

I mean, we don't know
the history of this car.

You know, this car could've came
from a chop shop.

This could've been owned by a drug dealer.
We don't know.

[Mark] Look, I can see both sides to this.

These theft recovery vehicles
can be a gamble.

I can look for other Ferraris.

I can find something similar,
but 60 grand is a steal.

I mean, it is a steal.

[Mark] But if this title comes back clean,
and that's a big if,

this could potentially be
the most profitable car

we've ever built and sold at this shop.

I mean, when it's all said and done,

we might be able to make
100 grand on this project.

I think the best thing to do
is just ask Graham,

"Can we have first right of refusal
on this car?"

And then we just make it
contingent on it's a clean title.

To me, that's worth holding out for

and at least waiting to see
how this all plays out.

[Graham] So, where you at, mate?

Well, we love the car.

If it comes back clean,
we're absolute buyers.

we're unsure about whether or not

this Ferrari deal will go down,

I still wanna be ready
if and when it happens.

for a Ferrari,

If we're gonna modify it
and put our thumbprint on it,

that ain't gonna be cheap.

when it's all said and done,

between the purchase of the car

and what it's gonna cost
to finish the build,

we're gonna have
about 100 grand into that build.

So, rather than go out of pocket
for the whole thing,

I wanna help fund
this potential Ferrari project

by building another car.

Fortunately for us,

we still have vehicles left over
from that massive Tesla trade

that we did a few weeks ago.

62-5 would have to be my final price.

And one of those cars, a '69 Chevelle,

is already primed and ready
for a Gotham Garage overhaul.

rock-solid car.

All right, so,
what are we doing with this?

Right now, it's not about this car.
It's really about something else.

It's way cooler than the Chevelle,
even though the Chevelle's pretty cool.

Nick found us a Ferrari.

-Get outta here. A real one? A Hot Wheel?
-Really?

No, no. It is a Ferrari 360 Spider.
It's a great car, great condition...

-[Caveman] But...
-[Constance] There's a but coming.

It's, uh, missing a few parts.
It was a theft recovery vehicle.

This whole deal is contingent on that

the title comes in,
and it's clean and clear.

And he said that'd probably take
about, what, two weeks?

About two weeks, but the price is good.

It's $60,000.

-Wow. For a Spider?
-[Mark] That's an absolute steal.

But that's still a lot of money, $60,000.
I've never bought a Ferrari, but...

That's why we got this Chevelle.

'Cause the Ferrari deal,
it's not a sure thing.

But if it happens, I wanna use
this Chevelle to fund that project.

So this car has gotta be worth
at least 60 grand when we sell it.

Plus, this Chevelle will be a safe bet.

So, we build this car,
and if the Ferrari deal doesn't work,

then everybody's still gonna get paid out
on a $60,000 build.

It's a nice Chevelle
and everything, but 60 grand,

that's gonna take a lot of high-end work.

[Mark] Absolutely.

That's why I'm gonna
turn this car into a badass RestoMod.

Oh yeah.

[Mark] Ever since we brought this car
into the garage,

I knew it was screaming to be a RestoMod.

A RestoMod is basically a classic car
that looks vintage on the outside,

but on the inside,
it has all of the creature comforts

that you would get from a new car
straight from the dealership.

It's like the best of both worlds.

And RestoMods are one of the most popular
and valuable cars

on the restoration market today.

To get 60K for the '69 Chevelle,

we're gonna start
by modernizing the inside.

We're gonna rip out
that old dash from 1969

and replace it with a dual screen,
digital touchscreen dash,

one of the most advanced touchscreen
devices you can buy for this car.

We'll also freshen up that 383 motor,
so it'll drive like a dream.

On the outside,
I want this Chevelle to have

completely sleek and streamlined angles.

We'll shave down
all of the metal tip to tail

and make it look like a bullet.

Then we'll add
a super sporty rear diffuser in the back.

Then in the front,
we'll give it a race-inspired chin spoiler

coming off the bumper.

And, of course,
we'll slam it to the ground

and give it big old wheels and tires.

And then, finish it off with a clean
and glossy royal blue paint job.

In order to make that happen,

Tony and Constance, I want you guys
to take the lead on this car.

You guys know this world.

You know exactly
what a buyer's gonna want.

-We got this.
-[Mark] And, Brian,

with any fab work

they're gonna need on this car, all right?

Sounds good.

Since all the profit from the Chevelle
is gonna get poured into that Ferrari,

we're gonna need another project
to get everybody paid in the meantime.

This pontoon boat is another vehicle
that Mark grabbed in the Tesla trade,

and he was just waiting
for the right moment

to dry dock it
in the middle of the shop and tick me off.

It's not that I hate boats.
I just don't like selling boats.

We did a Corvette-inspired boat
a few years back,

and even though
I eventually tracked down a buyer...

...we made a deal by the skin of our teeth.

[creaking]

-Two-for-one sale.

I thought were just building a boat.

Nope. We're gonna take a car and a pontoon
and we're gonna make a cartoon boat.

It's a car and a pontoon. A cartoon.

-[Caveman chuckles]
-[groans] You're serious, right?

-Dead serious, Shawn.
-[Caveman laughs]

Right now, we need some money
to start coming in real quick

until we get
the big return on that Ferrari.

No, no. Wait a minute.
It's never that easy.

No, you're confusing it with
that Corvette theme boat we did.

That's a whole different
kind of clientele.

These people that love these pontoon boats
like to go on the water and party.

And the whole thing is
who's got the baddest one out there?

The one that's not the same
as everybody else's.

Shawn, he's still traumatized
from the Corvette boat,

but this is gonna be
the easiest sale of his life.

This boat's practically gonna sell itself,

and something tells me

Shawn knows exactly where
to get a buyer for a party boat.

I've seen you in action,
you cruising this thing around

with some beer in the cooler at the lake,
trying to find somebody to buy it.

That's gonna be a rough day in your life.

-[all laughing]
-Wait a minute.

[Mark] Does he not look like
the kind of guy who spent the better part

of his twenties and thirties
on a party boat?

Hell, I think
he even lived on a party boat

at one point in time in his life.

This is his world. Trust me.

This is a vehicle we already own.

Would you rather we go out
and buy another car right now?

That's what I thought.

This is gonna be a lot easier to make,
and guess what?

You could sell it
all day long for 35, 40 grand.

Pontoon boats have always been
a staple at any lake,

but nowadays,

they're some of the hottest party boats
you can buy.

People will pay good money
for a tricked-out pontoon,

anywhere from 30 to 40 grand.

And, lucky for us,

the crazier the pontoon,
the more money you can get.

To turn this pontoon boat
into the ultimate party boat,

we're gonna rip off that roof
and mount the VW bus body on the deck.

Then, to fit the car body,

we're definitely gonna have to relocate
the boat steering console.

We'll move it to the front,
so it looks like it's driving the VW bus.

We'll also give the boat a new interior
for a super comfy party experience.

On the exterior, we'll give it
a classic Volkswagen paint scheme

to make it
a one-of-a-kind cartoon pontoon.

The longer we stand here
and talk about it,

the more time
you're taking off my clock to get it done.

[chuckling] I think this is gonna happen
whether I like it or not,

so I'll, uh, call around
a couple of my old lake buddies,

see if I can sell this thing.

Alright, why don't we
get this thing torn down.

The only thing we're not gonna deal with
is the steering console.

We have to figure out
where that's gonna get moved to and all.

But everything else, let's get some tools
and get this thing torn apart.

I just love these weird projects
that Mark dreams up.

[Mark] It's gonna be so cool
with a Volkswagen bus on it

motoring around on the lake.

Then Shawn's gonna eat all his words.

But it ain't gonna be
as easy as Mark thinks.

I mean, we're putting a VW bus
on top of a pontoon boat.

What could possibly go wrong?

A project like this, will it go smooth?
Will it work?

It'll work. I guarantee it'll work,
but will it go smooth?

All we gotta do now
is get that bus body mounted up on here,

and that's gonna be the task for tomorrow.

Cool. So, can I throw Shawn off the boat?

[Mark] You can't throw Sean off the boat
because I'll do it first.

[Caveman] So, it's a race
to throw Shawn off the boat?

-[Mark] That's the game.

[Tony] You guys see what I got?

-This is the AEM digital dash.
-[Brian] Does everything.

So this is about the most advanced dash
that you can get.

It's not exactly plug and play,

so we have to figure out how to make
the sensors talk to this digital dash.

But first, I have to figure out
how to fit it in the car.

So I'm gonna design up a new dash insert,

and I need you guys
to start on the sensors.

Okay.

[Constance] This isn't gonna be
the Tesla all over again, is it?

[Tony] In theory, no.

We actually have instructions
for this one.

That's pretty funny.
I hadn't seen that page.

[Constance] Chevelles are super popular
muscle cars when it comes to collectors.

So turning this car
into a RestoMod is a great idea.

[Brian] How's this one go in?

-[Constance] What is it?
-It says "fluid."

[scoffs] Which fluid?

I don't know.

But because RestoMods
have kind of exploded in popularity,

there is such a high standard
for this style of build now.

People go absolutely wild on RestoMods.

And to make this car worth 60 grand,
it's really gonna have to be on point.

-[Brian] Ugh...
-Ooh!

-Did it get you? Shoot! Totally got you.
-[laughing]

[Constance] We have to create something
that's worthy of that price tag,

but Mark really wants this car finished
by the time they hear back

on their Ferrari paperwork,

so we only have
about two weeks to pull it off.

It's a pretty typical
Gotham Garage dilemma.

[Tony] Let's do some math.

[Constance] Tony, how's that dash coming?

[Tony] Pretty good. I just have a couple
more pieces to design on the computer.

-And then I can start cutting.

[Tony] For this digital touchscreen,

we can't just install it
in the original '69 dash

and call it a day.

One, it won't fit.

And two,
that '69 dash is just super-outdated.

[machine hums]

[air hissing]

So I'm custom designing and building
all new aluminum dash inserts for the car.

This new dash needs to be
the definition of the RestoMod style,

a modern look that seamlessly integrates

with the old-school aesthetic
of the Chevelle.

Nice. This dash works perfectly.

So, tomorrow, we've gotta
actually wire these screens up

and get them to work with the car.

[Constance in sing-song] Sounds good.

called Skinner's Cove.

And let's just say, they used to call
old Shawny Boy the skipper.

If we had this kind of boat
back in the day, we'd be loving it.

So, I'm figuring,
if I call a couple of my old lake buddies,

that'd be the easiest way
to unload this pontoon party boat.

Right now, Skipper's having a hard time
getting the boat out of the harbor,

if you know what I mean.

We're only talking about a 40 grand boat.

I don't know if I'd even have time
for a boat like that.

[Shawn] But I'm selling this boat,
come hell or high water.

So my next step is to hit the road
and go straight to the source.

So, the big task for today
is to get that VW body

mocked up on top of that boat.

And then we can figure out
where everything else needs to land.

-[Mark] Especially that steering console.

I don't think that the original
manufacturer of this pontoon boat

ever thought someone would be crazy enough
to mount a Volkswagen bus body on it.

Needless to say, we'll have to make
quite a few adjustments.

[Mark] But if we can pull this off,
a VW bus is the perfect vehicle

to transform this pontoon
into a cartoon pontoon.

-[Caveman] How you doing, Captain?
-Yep, this is the perfect height

to cruise sitting down.

I'm happy with where everything is.

I'm gonna put all the marks on the floor,
and then we can get this body off of here.

[Jake] Cool.

VW buses are super popular right now.

If we can marry
these two vehicles together,

we should be able to maximize
the value of this thing.

-Okay, this is perfect.

This is exactly where
I want the steering console to sit.

All right. Well, that's a...

-[chuckling] ...problem.
-[Jake] A little short?

[Mark] The steering cable
is not gonna reach the outboard motor.

So can we just get a longer cable for it?

I don't think they make a longer cable.

The whole point of my design plan

was to make it look like you're sitting
in the driver's seat of the bus.

But when we moved up the steering console,

the steering cable ended up being
way too short to reach the outboard motor.

If you can't connect the two,
you basically don't have a working boat.

I think we're gonna have to make
some kind of custom extension

off the original cable.

It's gonna be some kind of funky thing
to make this thing turn.

Do me a favor and go turn
the steering wheel to the left.

[mellow music playing]

All right, so left is pull.

I think we all knew
that the steering might be an issue,

but I know Mark.

It's gotta pull to go that way.
Push to go that way.

He's like the garage version
of a MacGyver.

So what I'm thinking is,
I need a... a cantilever, right?

And then that cable will hook to here.

He's very determined
to figure out a solution.

To turn left, this pulls,
which will make that go this way.

And that's how you make the boat go left.

-[Jake] Cool.
-All right. See, you know, uh,

I'll get Tony to make me this.

I'll get a few measurements.

And then we'll just meet back here
and continue forward.

It's wiring time.

All right. We have our dash built
and our sensors connected to the engine.

So what we have to do now
is hook everything up to talk

and make sure
it all is connected and runs,

but there are a lot
of freaking wires in there,

so we're gonna have
our work cut out for us.

Yeah, you know,
wiring, that's my thing now.

[Tony] This dash we're installing
is one of the most advanced dashes

that you can install in a '69 Chevelle.

All right, so here's the one
for the temp sensor. It's white.

[Tony] Okay, I got it.

It has the ability to track sensors
on every part of the motor and the car.

-[Brian] You ready?
-[Tony] Yeah.

Got it.

And this touchscreen stereo
is gonna give us a ton of modern upgrades.

It's got Bluetooth.
It's got hands-free calling.

It has all the features
that you would want in a brand-new car.

Half of these are hot,
so I was testing them.

They're not capped off.

So this is fireworks waiting to happen.

What we could do is just hire
the guys that stole that Ferrari.

I bet they're good at this stuff.

Go for it.

[Constance laughs]

[Constance] Obviously, the intention
with this Chevelle is to sell it

and use that profit to fund
our potential Ferrari build.

But that's really the key word
is potential.

[mellow music playing]

We don't know anything
about this car's history.

I mean, Mark, Shawn, and Nick
don't even know if the title is clean.

-[engine rumbles]
-[Mark] That actually sounds really good.

[Constance] Listen, building a Ferrari
would be really cool for the shop.

Not only would it end up
making us a ton of money,

but it would also be
a big step in the right direction

with Nick and this new business venture.

Alright, I got those two.
We only got 400 more wires to go.

[Constance] The good news is,
if it doesn't work out,

we still have a very desirable car
to sell with the Chevelle.

It will be a super slick RestoMod,
and that itself will have a ton of value.

[Tony] All right. Let's see if it works.

Today, I'm on the hunt for a buyer
for our pontoon party boat.

So I'm heading to
my old stomping ground, Skinner's Cove.

Now, look,
I haven't been down there in years,

so I have no idea what it looks like now.

But this used to be the spot.

I'm figuring if I go down there,
shake the tree a little,

something's got to fall out.

I just hope it doesn't get too out of hand

because, uh,
when old Shawny boy sets sail,

things get rowdy, if you know what I mean.

So my little excursion at the lake

All right, so I got Tony to cut
these pieces for me with the water jet.

Here's the articulating arm,

and here's the other end
that connects to the motor.

So I have a pillow block.

So this goes into the pillow block,

and then this arm
gets bolted into that end.

And this gets bolted onto the motor.
And they all gotta swivel.

Caveman, I need you to cut me the DUM

-once you get down there.
-Mm-hmm.

-You wanna take a half inch off of that?
-Yep.

[Mark] The whole point of this project
was to build something very quickly

that could get us
a solid payday for the crew.

We're trying to get
somewhere around 40 grand for this boat,

which is pretty standard
for a tricked-out pontoon,

but we're not gonna get
40 bucks for this thing

if we can't get it to steer.

If this doesn't work,
I'm gonna be in trouble.

I don't have another idea.

Plus, Shawn just texted me

that he may have tracked down
a solid boat buyer.

Danny, if you love

has some pretty unique taste.

Apparently, this buyer, Danny,
is like a new age hippie.

And he actually used to
travel around with the Grateful Dead.

So I'm giving this boat
a super groovy tie-dyed paint job.

Even though this boat was only supposed

totally out there and unique,
