taking that Kenworth and pushing it aside.

It's gonna be out there for a long time.

[Shawn] We've been working
for a few months on the Zephyr deal

with Speedway Motors,

but to get that car
ready for the cover shoot,

we need to have it done in two weeks,

which means we'd have
to shelve our Kenworth build

and give up a very sizable payday
for the shop.

Remember, when you push
that Kenworth aside,

you gotta go into this
knowing you're kicking

your next paycheck down the road.

But it's advertisement for the shop.

Yeah. I think we gotta
take the opportunity.

[Shawn] It's obvious
where the crew stands,

and I feel the same way.

A Speedway Motors cover
is not something you pass up.

But that Kenworth
is a personal build for Mark,

and he's been wanting to build
his dad's truck for a long time.

You gotta wonder
if his feelings for that truck

are gonna affect this decision.

I mean, it seems like
we're all on the same page,

but from what you're saying,

it almost sounds like
you don't want to do this.

[Mark] Look, you guys know
how much that Kenworth means to me.

I've had my eye on that truck
for a very long time,

but I think that being said...

I think this is one
of the greatest opportunities

this shop could ever get.

To be on the cover of a Speedway catalog,

we'd be foolish not to grab it.

That catalog goes worldwide.

[Shawn] Totally.

[Mark] As much as I'm dying
to build that Kenworth,

and show it to my dad,
and sell it, and get a payday,

to get the cover of a Speedway catalog,

the things that that can do for this shop,
you cannot put a price tag on that.

You should get on the phone and tell Joe,
"Hey, we're down for it, man."

Hell yeah. Let's do it.

[Mark] At some point,
we'll get a chance to finish that truck

and I'll get to honor my dad,
but that is not gonna happen right now.

If we're gonna get this thing done
two weeks early,

I guess we need to get right back on it.

Shawn, you need to find me
a hood latch for this thing.

So look, obviously, we thought
we had a whole month to finish this car.

Well, we don't.

Now, because of the catalog,
we got two weeks.

So we have a lot to do.

We timed this car out
for a one-month timeline.

And right now,
we're only halfway finished.

So we need to
totally recalibrate our plan.

So we still have
the interior, fabrication,

plumb the brakes, wiring.

Oh, yeah. Bodywork and paint.

-Two weeks?
-[Mark] Two weeks.

If this car stands out
on the catalog cover

and we get a huge response
at the Goodguys show,

our shop could skyrocket
to the next level overnight.

Well, here's the deal.

The Zephyr is a badass ride the way it is,
but we're gonna be on a catalog

and that cover's
gonna be seen around the world.

So it has to have
that one big showstopper deal,

and I'm thinkin' that I wanna add
something huge to the back of it,

but I don't know what that is yet.

-I'm gonna sleep on it and figure it out...
-So you're gonna add a big thing.

-But we also don't know what it is.

-[Tony] I see how these next weeks'll go.

-Right, we got our work cut out for us.

Not only does this car have to be
show quality for the Goodguys show,

but it also has to stand out
in the Speedway Motors catalog.

This build has to be above and beyond
so the key is to make sure

every piece of this car
pops in the photograph.

[Mark] I'm likin' where you're goin'.

[Tony] The signature Gotham Garage
spiderweb Zephyr grille.

[Mark] I like it.

The only problem is, is that Zephyr
has got a bunch of weird shape to it.

Looks like you need to hop
on the ol' jet here and get to cuttin'.

[dramatic rock music playing]

[Tony] We've got
a custom spiderweb grille.

I made custom exhaust tips,
some trim pieces for the front hood.

And these are the superfine details
that our shop is known for.

To have them on display
on the Speedway Motors catalog

for the whole world to see
is gonna be incredible.

[Mark] So it's been a good long day.

And when I say long,
I mean frickin' long, but we got a...

We did a pretty good dent in it today.

I'm gonna go home.

I'm gonna sit down and figure out
how I wanna do the back of this car

to make it just be a showstopper.

Everybody needs to get
a good night's sleep.

for a '40 Zephyr.

one of those in 15 or 20 years.

is to track down
this hood latch for the Zephyr,

and I have called everywhere.

I don't know, Shawn.

-Man...
-That's a rare part you're asking about.

Yeah.

Salvage yards, vintage parts places.

Antique stores. You name it.

I am in desperate mode right now.
You got to help me.

I wish I could help you, Shawn.

Of all the things to be missing
on this car, the hood latch is the killer.

You got a Zephyr, and you didn't get
the hood latch to go with it?

I know. I know. I know.

You can't even drive it without the latch.

I know. I know. The hood flies up.

It's such a well-known feature on this car

that we have to track down
an original latch.

And with a timeline like ours,
you can't get this part off the Internet.

What if it ships here, and it's wrong?

You need to be able
to feel it and touch it.

He's got a pawnshop
that's right over in Murietta.

Typically, I do not like dealing
with pawnshops in our line of work.

-That's right.

[Shawn] They could be a little seedy,
and they like to drive a hard bargain.

But right now,
I just don't have another option.

Matter of fact, Shawn,

I think old Johnny Cowboy's
got a bigger boot collection than you do.

-Really?
-[chuckles] How about that?

I might have to make a trip
to see Old Johnny Cowboy

and try and cut a deal
for this hood latch.

You'll like this guy. You and him will be
over at the Saddleback Ranch.

I bet... I can see you two there
having a nice little rodeo.

So I thought about it last night,
what I wanna do to the back of this car.

I wanna showcase the G-Comp suspension
that's hidden underneath the car.

I wanna have a wood floor
with the stainless steel slats.

And then I wanna make
a big plexiglass window right here

so that you can see that suspension,

and I wanna add
some kind of LED lighting in there.

So when you open that door,
that's the jewel, right?

-That's the biggest thing they gave us.
-[Tony] Yeah.

All of their main components and parts,
we want to put on display.

-[Constance] Full display.
-So it's like a rolling display for them.

Pretty much. It showcases
our work and their product.

That being said, we need
to get to work and get this thing done.

-[Constance] Sounds good.
-Let's get it measured.

[intense rock music playing]

This G-Comp suspension
is a very unique feature of the car.

It makes it handle
like a race car underneath,

but this car is so low to the ground

that you can't really see it
or appreciate it.

-[whirring]
-That's why I want a window.

Basically, it's a window
to the soul of the car.

This is where the plexiglass goes.

And then you're gonna have to make
some kind of decorative

spiderwebs, something or other,

and then we'll backlight it from the back.

But we also wanna put in a super elegant

all-wood floor
and then add some flame from a torch

and stain this wood floor
to match the paint on the vehicle.

When that door opens
and you see inside of that,

it's just gonna be the world's
biggest Gotham Garage wow factory.

[music fades]

We need to test-fit
all the wood for the back.

Make sure that it all fits right.

If you guys wanna grab it,
it's all laying over there.

-And then I'll set this car down.
-[whirring]

Maybe we start with the bottom.
I know that's the back bottom right there.

This car is gonna be seen
by everyone in the car world.

So your end goes in first.
It's gonna take a little finagling.

Here's the thing when you're going
for the cover of a catalog,

it's still photography.

Means it sits still forever.

Nothing should force fit.
Everything should just fit right in.

There you go.

So in my mind, I have to look at it from,

"How is this all gonna fit together
in a one-dimensional picture?"

And in a single second in time,

how do I make it feel like
you're looking at a three-dimensional car?

-[dramatic electronic music playing]
-Sweet!

So now it comes down to
the little details are now the big details

because it has to visually capture you
every time you look at that same picture.

-[Caveman] That is sick-looking.
-[Constance] That's really nice.

[Mark] We're done with the fun

'cause now we gotta get
this plexiglass cover in.

So the rest of us, we can start
prepping this thing for bodywork.

Tony, if you'll just handle that.

Let me know when it's done,
we can get it installed.

[Tony] I got this.

And the rest of us will go be sander boys.

But the most important thing is,

Shawn has to find
that hood latch lock mechanism.

He said he's got a line on one.
So we better hope he gets it.

[Shawn] It's crunch time.

I am looking for the last piece
of the puzzle to the Zephyr.

It's at a pawnshop.

I talked to the owner, Johnny,
and as advertised,

he seems like a real cowboy.

However, the hood latch
is not technically for sale.

I guess someone pawned it,

which means someone left it there
as collateral for a loan,

but I'm out of options,
so I gotta at least go over there

and see if I can talk my way
into buying it.

But these pawnshop guys,
they're an odd breed.

Plus, they are tough negotiators.

Unfortunately, I just don't have a choice.

[door bells jingling]

-Hey. How's it going?
-Hey. What can we do for you?

-I'm looking for Johnny.
-Speaking.

-You're Johnny? I'm Shawn.
-Yep. Shawn.

I called you about
that Zephyr hood latch ornament.

Yes, I set them aside for you.

-Oh, yeah. Oh, man.
-They're right here.

[Shawn] Here we go. I'm dying to see this.

All right-y. Oh, he's got...
You got a few of 'em, huh?

There it is, right there.

Whoo.

Yeah, that's exactly what I need.

You told me the story.

The guy pawned these,

and they're not
technically for sale right now.

Yeah, if you're interested,

he will forfeit the loan,

Here's the thing.

-Come on, we gotta know about this.
-This is a result of this.

I had no other option
but to give up my boots for the team.

-Showing my dedication to the project.

But if we don't get this Zephyr done
after I went through all of this,

this deer hoof is going up somebody's ass.

-All right?
-[Constance laughs]

I nominate Caveman.

-I don't think so.
-[Shawn] You guys get back to work.

I'm gonna order myself up

a brand-new pair of boots
on the company's bill.

How about that? Huh?

-[Mark] Yeah, I don't think so.
-[Shawn] Goddamn.

[all laughing]

[Caveman] That was hilarious.

[Mark] Let's bring it in
the rest of the way.

[Tony] No time to waste.

[Mark] All we'll do is if you figure out
where it goes, green tape it to the car.

[Tony] Now that the bodywork
is finished on the Zephyr,

we need to mock up
all the finished pieces on the car

before Mark can paint it.

-[Caveman] Wait. That's got a curve to it.
-Maybe it follows this line?

After paint,
there's a ton of finishing details

that we still need to do.

So getting it mocked up
and then sprayed down

is priority number one.

[Caveman] Do we have a picture
of what it looked like? That might help.

In my mind.

[Tony] Most of this is the original trim,
and it was born about 80 years ago.

Eighty years old?
That's like me and you together.

Mm, wow.

So we have to make sure that it's perfect
for the Speedway Motors catalog.

I'm definitely excited to have this car
on the cover of the Speedway catalog,

but it is a bummer we had to pass up
doing the Kenworth right now.

Something that I know
you were excited to build.

But the long-term effect of this car...

[Mark] That's... That's
the beauty of this car,

is what it brings is way more mayhem
than we already have.

This opportunity with Speedway Motors
is way more significant

than any of us would have ever thought.

Everything has been
just, like, big, big, big, big.

[Mark] That is the new juggle
of this whole thing.

[off-screen] If we can
blow them away at the photo shoot

and this car makes a huge splash
at the Goodguys car show,

it could immediately catapult us

into the upper echelon
of custom car shops.

This is a cool little gem.

got its start with gettin' dirty...

and making a badass ride.

[Mark] As our reputation grew...

It's good, man.

...so did our Rolodex
of high-end clients with deep pockets.

[Jason] You guys really knocked it out.

[Mark] But that's just a trickle.

If this goes well,
that trickle could turn into a waterfall.

And believe me,
I know we need to be prepared.

I heard about the car
on the front cover of the magazine.

Yeah, how about that, huh?

I have Shawn already
laying the groundwork as we speak.

-Let's take the shop to the next level.

[Mark] But we can't
get ahead of ourselves.

We have to concentrate
on giving Speedway Motors a badass car.

-No, these come straight from Speedway.

All right, now that we know
where it all goes,

let's get all that trim off.

Make sure it's all labeled.
And then I can get this thing painted.

[Mark] The best thing about building
a brand car for Speedway Motors,

their brand color, it's purple.

[dramatic music continues]

So now... the style
and the color of this car

will be a perfect marriage
for both of our companies.

[music continues]

-[Mark] What do you think of the two-tone?
-[Caveman] Good.

It's gonna look really good once we get
all the rest of the pieces on it.

We got windows, wheels and tires,
interior, wiring, fuel lines.

So we all got a lot to do.

putting it back together.

It's almost photo shoot time.

[Mark] The photo shoot
for the Speedway catalog

is about 72 hours away.

And even though
this car looks 90% finished,

it's the final 10% that needs
the most attention to detail.

-[Tony] Kind of nice, huh?
-Pretty damn good, I think.

We still have to get the interior in it,
finish up the wiring.

We have to do
the plumbing for the radiators.

So, to put it bluntly,

we have a lot of work
to do in the next couple days.

Just about every car builder,
car collector, car enthusiast

is gonna be looking at this car
on the cover of the Speedway catalog.

So that means every inch of this car
has to be dialed in to perfection

so it pops in that photograph.

[Tony] It sure is nice having Shawn here
in the shop helping out.

[Constance] I love it.
Shawn, you should be out here more often.

-[Shawn] Relax.
-[all chuckling]

[Tony] Now that we're
in the finishing stages,

this car needs to be
completely wired up from front to back.

Everything except for the electric motor
is what we're wiring in here.

I have to wire in the engine,
the lights, AC system.

It has LED lights in the back.

That's the section that Mark
really wants to stand out for the cover.

So we're gonna have LED lights

that surround the plexiglass window
that I made,

and it's gonna shine
in every different color and flash.

And it's gonna really, really highlight
the G-Comp suspension underneath

and everything that we got
from Speedway Motors.

We have to absolutely
blow their expectations out of the water.

Couple of days left right now,

and... and this is where I'm living,
chained by the wire.

[Caveman] Somebody needs to
order some pizza.

[Constance] I'm on it.

[Mark] All right. One last push,
and we'll get this thing finished.

What about Shawn? Where is he?
I haven't seen him in a while.

-I thought it was kinda peaceful in here.

[Shawn] Seeing this car come together
and knowing what it's for

is just a huge accomplishment
for the shop.

-[Constance] Look at that paint!

-That one looks pretty damn good.

[Shawn] We've had a year
of some really big ups

and some really big downs,

but to fight through it all
and be in the position we're in

is pretty resilient, if you're askin' me.

Damn, that's so badass-looking.
I can't get over that.

[Shawn] Now, look, we still need
Speedway Motors to love this car,

and we need
the photo shoot to go perfectly,

but the fact that we're this close
and we could taste it,

it makes you feel really good
about how far we've come.

Oh, there it goes. Well, that looks cool.

[Mark] Now that you've all
watched me work,

why don't we all get back to work
and finish so we can go home?

-We enjoy watching you work.

it's the most creative car

we've ever built to date.

And the best thing
about this big Sedan Delivery,

it handles like a fricking race car.

It's got that
G-Comp suspension underneath it,

with that big 502 Big-Block
underneath the hood.

It's the kind of car you can get in,
cruise all day long,

but get there having fun.

If this car is successful,

this will take the shop
exactly where it's always tried to get,

where I've tried to push it my whole life.

But it doesn't matter what we think.

It all comes down
to what Joe from Speedway Motors thinks.

I wondered how you'd cram
a Big-Block in this thing.

[Tony] It fit pretty good.

This thing sits good. I like the stance.

[Constance] He hasn't even seen
what's in the rear yet.

You haven't seen
the junk in the trunk yet.

-Well, let's see it.

[Joe] Wow, I like that window
to see the G-Comp suspension.

That is very cool.

I'm really glad
you guys chose to show that off.

That was something we were excited
to see how you would integrate into this.

That was the whole point of that window.

This car is pretty much about
showing off what you guys do

and everything you guys have on the shelf.

It does.

With the engine turned panel around it,
that's really cool with the lights on it.

Man, that is impressive.

Basically, in my mind,
the goal was to blend

Gotham Garage and Speedway Motors
without hiding any of it.

the car that you built is great.

is a sign of things to come,

And I think the whole crew
is really energized

about what that catalog cover
can do for this shop.

screwed-up part of the car to take off.

[Shawn] So for a few weeks now,

Mark and I have been working on a plan
to take our garage to the next level.

-What's up, Goldilocks?

We've been solidifying
a deal with Nick Smith,

the guy that brokered
the concept vehicle sale.

He loves the direction we're taking,

and he wants to join forces
and help elevate the shop.

Not only would he bring his Rolodex
of high-end clients to the table,

but Nick also has
a team of trusted builders

that would come on board as well.

It would be a huge step for us,

and it could send our shop
into the stratosphere.

So I just talked to Nick,

and if the car show goes great
like we think it will,

he's ready to pull the trigger
and come on board.

What he can bring to the table
partnering up with us

is exactly what we're needing right now.

But here's the question.

How do you think
the crew's gonna feel about all of this?

[Mark] Look, everyone knows
change is scary,

but it's gonna be a win-win for everybody.

Any time you head down a new road,
it's a little frightening,

but I always have
the best intention for this shop in mind.

[Shawn] I know it'll take
a little getting used to for the crew,

but where we're going with our business,

I think it's just beneficial on all ends.

Nick obviously saw something
in that concept pairing

that got him interested in Gotham Garage.

He knows what high-end cars are.
He knows what they're worth.

If we can seal the deal,
in the end, it will all pay off,

and everyone will be happy.

First, we have to
get that car to the car show

and make sure that it's a hit there.

And if it's a hit there,
this is a good idea

to take it to the next step
on a serious level.

[Caveman] I'll start in the front.

[Shawn] There's no doubt
this is the proving ground.

The crowd at this show
has seen everything.

They know what a big-time custom hot rod
is supposed to look like.

So based on the people's
reaction to this car,

we're gonna see if we've got what it takes

to be on the same level
with these other big-time custom shops.

This is a really nicely done car.

[Mark] It's a gorgeous car.

There's, like, a lot of time
and effort spent on all this.

So it's... I have a bit
of butterfly going on of...

Until everybody sees it.

Because my opinion doesn't matter
and neither does yours.

-That's true. It's what the people think.
-[Mark] Yeah.

The gravity of this situation is intense.

You know, these are our peers,
and we put in long hours,

working till 4:30
in the morning sometimes,

to get this caliber of car up to the snuff
of everything else that's here.

[Tony] Look at the supercharger,
how it's mounted out.

-[Mark] Backwards.
-Yeah.

Just the little things, super clean.

And we're gonna find out,
do we get to step up one more rung

on that ladder of success
and become those guys?

Because this place is full
of nothing but purest hot rodders,

and they're gonna judge us
and let us know, did we do right

or did we do wrong?

It's got all the carbon fiber on it.
The stripe is gray and black.

Yeah, that's pretty sick.
He'll like all the metalwork in the back.

For me, the butterflies
in my stomach right now are about,

did we build this car
to their expectations?

This whole lineup is just, like, perfect.

First of all,

I'm Joe from Speedway Motors.

We had the idea to partner
with the Gotham Garage crew

on a car that was really gonna show
the unlimited creative potential

using parts
from the Speedway Motors catalog.

And we're really excited
to show this to you guys.

Uh, it's gonna blow your mind.

Before we do,
I'm gonna turn it over to Mark

and let him say a few words about it.

I'm very proud of my entire crew.

I want to thank you very much
for giving us the chance to do this.

So what we did here,
what we have is a 1940 Zephyr.

[people cheer]

[Mark] The back half of this
is a '54 panel Ford truck.

So we grafted 'em together.

And you guys get to be
the first ones to see it.

I'm gonna have Shawn and Tony,

-with help from Caveman...
-Whoo!

...get the car cover off so you can see it.

Let's get fired up out here!

[Mark] What do you guys think?

[Shawn] Yeah!

-Check it under that hood, huh?
-[Mark] How do you like that motor?

-[man] Quite the car.
-[Tony] Thank you.

[man] Definitely not like
any other Zephyr you've seen.

[Tony chuckles]

-[man 2] You never disappoint, man.

I think the concept is great.

I mean, it's really hard
to put two cars together

and make it all cohesive.

I love the spiderwebs
on the grille and all that.

This is something that makes you
want to look at every piece of the car.

[music fades]

-Hey! Fire it up, will you?
-[Mark] You ready?

-[engine rumbling]
-[people cheering]

-[engine revving]
-[upbeat rock music playing]

The motor that they put in, it's insane.
The bodywork on it...

They took two completely different cars
and merged them together, it was awesome.

How long did it take to come up with that?

Uh, the idea came pretty quick.
Making it work took a little bit longer.

[Mark] Not bad for a four-cylinder, right?

[Shawn laughs]

[man 4] It's a wild, crazy build.

Their uniqueness
and their off-the-wall builds...

This one, man,
it just blows... blows my mind.

[Tony] Check it out. People are already
posting this car on social media.

-[Constance] That was so fast.
-[Tony] People are lovin' it.

To be honest, it's really been
a rocky road this last year at the shop.

And to get that reaction,
it just makes it all worth it.

And it really feels like, after this year,
we've got some good things to come.

I'm lookin' to just do something
out of the ordinary.

Yeah, I'm that guy.

[both chuckling]

The great thing about today, this is
day one of the future of Gotham Garage.

[Shawn] Yeah.

-Do you do motorcycles too?
-Yeah, yeah, everything.

[Shawn] And to see
this crowd reacting so strongly,

I think we can both feel confident
taking this shop to a whole new level.

I wanna thank you for all your hard work,
for making this happen,

especially with the deadline
being pushed up.

Speedway Motors is stoked.

I think we're gonna have
a good relationship with them.

-[Caveman] Yeah!
-Feeling good.

So Shawn and I want you
to meet us at the shop on Monday.

It was awesome getting that response
from the crowd and the people out there.

I mean, it's already, like,

That Speedway Motors deal was
totally worth the exposure we're getting.

[Caveman] More exposure for us.

-How you guys doing? Big long weekend?
-[Constance laughs]

Oh, lovely.

I know you enjoyed it 'cause I was there.

We were talking about how much fun we had.

[Caveman and Mark] Yeah.

With the Goodguys show
going even better than we planned...

Speedway seemed happy. Everybody loved it.

It had a crowd around it
as soon as we pulled that cover over it.

...and knowing that
the Zephyr's gonna be on the cover

of the Speedway Motors catalog,

it's time to lay out
our new plan to the crew.

There's a lot of huge, really big things
that will start happening around here.

We kinda all knew this was coming.
The concept vehicles took us up a notch.

And now the Zephyr
is really taking this up a notch.

So we are gonna have to make
some... changes around here.

It's just, the expectations
are gonna be higher,

the efficiency's got to be way higher,

and Gotham Garage
just has to position itself

to be able to meet those demands.

Bottom line is we're gonna need some help
to move this whole thing forward.

[Tony] Yeah, I tell you what,
I like where you're going with this.

I think the things
that got us to this level

aren't gonna get us to the next level.

-Yeah.
-[Mark] Right.

The growing pains are gonna start,
and in order to make all this happen,

we'll need some assistance.

Nick brokered the deal
on the concept vehicles.

He represented the client
that bought the car.

He wants to come on board,
and along with Nick,

he brings two super good fabricators,
Brian and Jake.

They're used to working
for high-end clients.

This is how we're gonna
get to the next level.

So if you guys know any of our work,
we're a little crazy here.

-You guys think you'll fit in all right?
-I think we'll do all right.

We're very excited to get in here
and start doing some newer things

we haven't got into.

Not many things we've built
have flamethrowers on them...

What did you say about flamethrowers?

[Mark] We don't say "flame"
around Caveman anymore.

-[shrieks]

[Mark] Gotham Garage started from nothing,

and we've been trying to get ourselves
into this position for a very long time.

Having Nick on board
opens us up to a new world.

That's it. I've got the clients
for the kind of cars you're now producing.

You're getting a lot of traction.

I'd like to be more of a part of it.
I'd like to help you guys out.

In the end, I wanna put this shop
on the map and keep it on the map.

Yes, it's gonna be
kind of hard to navigate,

but I couldn't be more enthused
about the future of Gotham Garage.

You know, you guys do some fantastic work.

-We want to just elevate it.

Caveman to play nice and not bite anybody,
