I honestly admire that a lot about her.

The song "Creep" is really

about being an outsider,

not necessarily fitting in

and not knowing why.

Being a pastor's son,

you kind of live your life under a magnifying glass.

I was well known because I was a quarterback,

a pitcher, center-fielder,

but I wasn't really into partying.

I really just focused on my sports.

And then I would write in my free time.

Sometimes I would feel left out.

Sometimes people didn't understand that.

* I'm a weirdo *

I think it needs to be more emotional. She's right.

Can we just do it with, like, a couple acoustic guitars

or something?

I already prepared the band

that we were going to do this.

The fact that we're changing this to acoustic,

it'll give us the opportunity to really shine.

When you do it just like the Radiohead version,

it's just too much... I agree.

Adam is like the OG.

I wouldn't want any other coach.

In the beginning, we keep it simple,

we keep it really haunting and eerie.

We don't overdo it.

As the song goes on, you get more freedom to do that

and have it be more impactful.

It's a raw song,

and they have to break through here with some real feeling,

which is a big ask.

This song, the lyrics resonate so deeply with me.

There was a time in my life

where I fell into a dark place,

and I had some addiction issues.

Addiction took away my relationships, my jobs.

I was homeless,

but just like with all of my life,

the light in that dark place was always music.

So, "Creep" for me is my redemption song.

* I'm a creep *

That's awesome. Big improvement.

Your voices are beautiful together. Yes.

And for that reason,

it needs to really hit when it needs to hit.

Because now there's not as much music,

so you want to build it

so that it stays exciting throughout.

So, if you harmonize too early in the chorus,

it's not going to be as impactful

when you come to that bridge. Yeah, for sure.

I love a good run,

and I love technique in voices, right?

One particular line where you hit this note

that was so beautiful, I wanted you to stay on it

and not trail down. You're 100% right.

Yeah, keep it simple sometimes

is can be much more impactful. Oh, yeah.

Adam: Britton actually has the unique problem

of he can kind of do it all.

And sometimes I want to scale back a little bit.

Darius, what are you thinking?

Do you feel confident?

I'm trying some things I've never tried.

And do that because the experimental process

and the whole part of this is now.

I want to push myself to do something

I wouldn't normally do.

I'm so happy that I get to do this with my buddy.

She's a singer, a songwriter, a dancer. Hey, man.

She's in the zeitgeist right now,

and it's very close to where these artists

To be able to give any wisdom makes me feel super humble,

because I've had a lot of tough criticism

that has helped me grow,

and I want to offer that

because I know I value it so highly in my own life.

He has a bit of a different voice than Luther, though.

and it's a really good song if you can sing. Yeah.

It's got so much emotion and connection.

And he did a beautiful job.

This feels like a dream.

So, I picked a song that I've done

with my friend Sebastián Yatra

He's got great range.

I love him doing a bit of Sebastián, a bit of me.

You know, it's like a good mix for his style.

and I know we're, like, still getting comfortable in the song.

To me, the theme of the song is flirty.

You're gonna have women in the audience,

A lot of the choices you make are always in your zone.

The key is going to be making sure you're breathing enough

I've had a couple of heart breaks,

especially because I relate to it.

My son, his name is Karter.

Karter's mother and I are no longer together.

At the end of the day, we're best of friends.

I'd have to give her credit for major amount of support

and holding it down while I chased the dream.

You know, a little nervous stepping out of my comfort zone

to sing in the Spanish part.

I want to win this battle for Karter.

So, I try to keep this fire going.

I love when you do the rapid pace.

When I heard that part, I was like, man,

and it's in Spanish.

I already know that I'm probably gonna be

the one that has to do it.

And I was like, man.

So, I've been like, really --

I feel that.

This song has that Latin feel to it.

It really brings out that culture and the rhythm.

I feel like those things, I can connect with.

I definitely often do sing in Spanish.

One of my friends started this band.

It's called La Banda.

We started, like, making some covers

and some videos, and I'm the lead singer.

When I sing in Spanish, it's a different voice,

almost like more passionate tone than when I do sing in English.

So, I'm honored that I get to do it.

That should be a little bit more of your moment.

We could get a little taste of what you can do there.

It's amazing to get told what to work on

from two of the top in their fields.

Kolby: Coco was real engaged.

You could tell, like, her tips and her coaching

were something that she wanted us to not only use

for our performance here,

after the process is done.

because then you'll make it feel like more of your own, you know?

when someone steps up in the battles you're like, what?

Like, the coolest part.

But some people are made like that.

The lights go on, and they just turn on.

Michael: Do you remember the first time?

First time -- I met you was...

It was in New York in, like, a,

like a magazine office or something. Then I saw you --

That was the first time we sang together as well.

And then I saw you at the Hollywood Bowl. That's right.

You were working on "Wicked" at that point. Yes.

And now we're here. I know.

Cynthia Erivo -- she's a huge movie star,

music star, theater star, television star.

And along with all of that talent comes an empathetic,

kind, generous, and loving person.

Now I'm excited. I know. We're together.

As a performer, the reason it was really important

for me to come and be a mentor

was because I know how hard it is to begin.

To be able to help others see their dreams come to fruition,

it's the most wonderful thing.

We have Braxton and Jadyn.

I'm super excited and shocked to see Cynthia,

somebody that's that successful

and just like has that Grammy and that Emmy,

and she's, like, in the new "Wicked" movie,

which is insane to me.

It's just very inspiring to see.

it was a lot of emotions mixed in there

because I'm just a small-town kid.

Being on "The Voice," my life is at stake.

There's not much opportunity, you know, back home.

When my dad had passed, I had a lot of bills put on me,

and my son was just about to be born,

so it was very hard.

We had to figure it out.

For work, I do a lot of beautification in my hometown,

making sure everything is up to date, looking well.

I want to show my kids from being on here

that chasing my dream is for them,

and I really want to make them proud.

My full-time job back home,

I'm actually a sales assistant at a window and door dealership,

but I love singing, so that'd be my dream job.

Living in Lincoln, Nebraska, that dream feels really big.

So, being out here, it feels like

a little bit of imposter syndrome.

But being on Michael's team has been such a blessing.

I really want to win this battle,

so I'll definitely try to grow that confidence in myself.

My favorite thing about both of you

is how insecure you are and how nervous you are.

How do you balance family and careers?

Well, I think that you have to do what makes you happy,

which is your career, because that also is deeply fulfilling.

And the way you balance it, I think, is by all, by feel.

Yeah. You know, but obviously family first.

And that kind of fuels me.

As long as that kid knows that the only reason

you are leaving is for them,

everything will be okay.

As a new dad, my biggest concern

coming into this was obviously the distance.

This is absolutely the longest

I've ever been away from them. [ Chuckles ]

Doing performances and gigs is a very new thing to me.

I'm a coffee roaster,

but I've been able to perform

above the coffee shop that I work at.

It's not glamorous,

but I can just kind of pour my heart out

to some people who are willing to listen.

I just want to inspire my daughter

and to support my family doing what I love.

Someday, I just can't wait to make her proud.
