your Jamyunggo is nothing but a lie.

Nakrang is a sacred land.

How can we violate the land of Jamyunggo?

l'll tear Jamyunggo for you.

l can't watch you die.

l'll tear Jamyunggo as a sign.

lf the Princess of Nakrang fails to tear Jamyunggo...

l'll have him end his life.

l can't let you destroy Nakrang.

Nakrang will eventually fall under Goguryeo.

lt's useless to tear Jamyunggo.

Because l'm the Jamyunggo that protects Nakrang.

You really want Hodong to die?

Can you go on when he does?

Part 2

Hurry up.

Please hurry. The princess is dying.

Shut that mouth.

Faster.

You have to hang in there!

Please don't die.

LAHEE Nakrang Princess

Shall we make a toast?

l did as you wished.

l tore the drum and...

... killed Jamyung.

Do you think...

... even if l'm evil...

... even if l'm blinded with jealousy...

... even if she's my half-sister...

l wanted to kill Jamyung?

Hodong...

Why are you making me such an evil person?

What right do you have...

Why do you not love me?

And why...

... can't l stop loving you?

We have to hurry.

We have no time to waste.

Careful.

Hurry up. What's taking you so long?

All right.

- Are you ready? - Ready.

llpum.

Be careful.

Be careful now.

Be careful.

lt must be drained out from her body.

A bucketful of poison must be drained.

The poison has reached up to her eyelids.

She has to hang on.

Father l couldn't protect Jamyunggo.

What will happen to Nakrang?

l'm sorry...

After all you did to find this kingdom...

18 AD NAKRANG PALACE NAKRANG COMMANDERY

Liu Xian King of Nakrang Commandery

Kill the Joseon rebels.

CHOl Ll Joseon Origin Commander of Nakrang Army

WANG GOENG Joseon Origin Commander of Nakrang Army

lt's been over 120 years since Emperor Wu of Han

destroyed Old Joseon that was founded by Dangun

and established Han commanderies in the old

Joseon lands of Lelang lmdun

Jinbun and Hyeondo .

Die.

Stop there!

Come here!

No sir!

Liu Xian the king of Nakrang was a cruel man

and the people lived

in dissatisfaction under his ruling.

Listen you fools.

The great king Liu Xian is the 15th descendant of the

Han Emperor Liubang and is uncle to the emperor.

With his divine powers he has walked across

the Yellow Sea with his bare feet

to grace Nakrang with his presence!

Despite the turbulent times

lives were still born and lost.

And l was still in the womb of my mother Mo Haso

and Lahee was in the womb of Wang Jasil.

MO HASO Choi Li's First Wife This is my mother.

Halt!

She is an elegant woman.

Bring herto the palace as soon as she gives birth.

OH BUGWl Minister of Nakrang She's the first wife of Captain Choi Li Your Majesty.

ls that right?

HOGOK Senior Officer of Nakrang Army Choi Li's second wife Wang Jasil surpasses her

in beauty and sensuality.

Sensuality is the measure of beauty for street tramps

but elegance comes foremost in woman of class.

And a man can bring out a woman's sensuality

in the bed.

Your Majesty should not speak of Lady Wang that way.

And why do you say that Jamuk?

JAMUK Astronomer of The Royal Palace lf you were to compare herto the constellation

JAMUK Astronomer of The Royal Palace she's like a full moon

and if you were to compare herto flowers

she can be compared to a buyeo yourfavorite flower.

Even you find are overwhelmed by

Wang Jasil's elegance.

Your Majesty.

Pardon me Your Majesty.

Yourface is brighter than that flower.

Choi Li is a lucky man.

Let's go back.

My Lady.

The water is cold.

WANG JA-SlL Choi Li's Second Wife Please come out.

My Lady!

That greasy old man... made me sick to the stomach.

You'll see dogs cows and dung when you walk the streets.

lt's the times we live in.

l can endure this.

when my husband endures much worse.

My Lady!

Doesn't this abalone look delicious?

Boil it in water with some sesame oil.

- Yes. - Yes.

You're only days away from your due date.

You might give birth in the water.

Don't worry.

l'm doing this so that l'll have an easy delivery.

l've been diving in these waters since the day l was

born until the day l got married.

But you must eat well rest well and take care of

yourself in orderto give birth to a healthy baby.

But you are out horseback riding and diving.

l have to get plenty of exercise so l can have an easy delivery.

l may be his second wife

but my baby will be the eldest son.

l have to give birth before Mo Haso does.

Let me My Lady.

You should get some rest.

l have to pray with devotion.

The wind is still cold.

Maybe we should go home...

Be quiet. l want to rest.

Dangun Wanggeom our ancestor

l pray before you.

l married him at seven and 25 years have passed

but l have yet given him a son.

Please give him a healthy child through me.

Even if l were to have a daughter...

No you won't. For whose benefit...

lf l have a daughter

please give Jasil a son so he will be happy.

My Lady.

l'm so sleepy.

Maybe it's the incense.

Little girl what are you doing?

The sun fell into ouryard.

l'm trying to send it back home.

Let me help you.

You can't.

You can't do it.

Let me see your hands.

They must've been very hot.

Let me put some ointment on them.

Can l come live with you?

What?

Baby!

Did you have a dream?

My Lady.

My Lady.

Wake up.

Please wake up.

Did you have a bad dream?

You're scaring me My Lady.

l've always trusted my instincts.

l've always followed them.

Why do you think l became a second wife when

there is Mo Haso?

That's because the Master is handsome.

l'll bear a special child.

Baby you'll be the King of Nakrang.

Just trust me.

What a frightening thing to say.

Bring me the abalone if it's ready.

GOGURYEO GUKNAESUNG

Mother!

Mother here.

SONG MAESEOLSU Goguryeo's Queen My it's a locust.

SONG MAESEOLSU Goguryeo's Queen Hodong is this for me?

Thank you.

You have very peculiar features Sister-in-law.

What do you mean Princess?

YEORANG King Daemushin's Sister You have sweet lips but icy eyes.

KlNG DAEMUSHlN Third King of Goguryeo Yeorang.

Prince l'm sorry if that's how l seemed.

Everything in life needs studying.

lt seems l still have more to learn about being a mother.

Please understand.

Then again it won't be easy to raise a child when

you have none of your own.

Your Majesty a woman is a woman despite her status.

She'll be able to give love when she's loved.

Don't you agree queen?

His Majesty cares for me plenty.

Then why is there no child

between you and your husband?

lt's one of two things.

Maybe he's sterile or...

watch your language.

Let me finish talking.

Since you drag him to battlefields all overthe land

we have no time for a child.

Your Majesty.

Speak of the devil...

Your Majesty.

What is it?

That is...

We received a hawk from our spy in Nakrang.

You did?

There is a rebellion brewing up in Nakrang?

The people are suffering from floods and famine

but Liu Xian is taxing them heavily forthe

30-year celebration.

That's power.

That's why everyone wants to become a king.

But a king is supposed to take care of his people.

Feeding his people well but not providing adequate

discipline does not make a good king.

lt's Liu Xian's choice

whether he becomes a virtuous king or a tyrant.

Your Majesty.

Don't worry.

l don't mean that l'll become a tyrant.

But a rebellion is not the problem.

ljust hope Liu Xian kills those two this time.

You mean Captains Choi Li and Wang Goeng?

Choi Li is wise and Wang Goeng is brave.

With those two it'll only

mean trouble for Goguryeo.

Let's say that's true but our current problem is Liu Xian.

The rising sun is hotter than the setting sun.

lt's only a matter of time before Liu Xian falls.

lf we're to seize Nakrang after he loses power

Choi Li and Wang Goeng must be eliminated.

Hodong did you understand what ljust said?

You'll set your enemies against each other and

have them kill each other.

You're a bright boy my son.

lt's all thanks to Teacher's teachings.

You're too kind Your Highness.

No one else can bring me more joy.

My precious son.

Your Majesty...

Father.

Welcome.

Let's go inside.

lt smells like home.

l missed Mother's cooking.

But palace has the best food on earth.

The food in palace

does not suit me.

SONG OKGU/Chief of Biryuna Song Maeseolsu's Father

SONG OKGU/Chief of Biryuna Song Maeseolsu's Father ls it hard to live in the palace Your Majesty?

Very much so...

Beyond your imagination...

l miss home.

You may leave us.

Yes Chief.

Don't whine like a little girl and disappoint yourfather!

Father.

l didn't send you to Muhyul because you're my daughter.

l've never seen a stronger more beautiful

or smarter woman in ourtribe.

l thought the same thing.

l thought l could seduce any man

if l wanted to.

But l was wrong.

Unless Muhyul's prefers man

he couldn't ignore a beautiful woman like you.

lt's not him. lt's Hodong.

My rivals aren't other concubines or palace maids.

lt's Hodong.

When l crossed the Majasu River in my finest to

become Goguryeo's queen l never imagined l'd have to

fight for my husband's attention with my stepson.

l feel pathetic.

Give him a son.

He'll adore the son

he has in his lateryears.

Muhyul will be no different.

Goguryeo's next king will be my grandson.

lt takes two to have a baby.

Even when he comes to my room...

l should leave.

Hodong is already seven years old.

l know my stepson's age.

lt'll only get harder.

Ourtribe will perish when Hodong becomes king.

l don't think l can.

You must!

Father!

l'm the chief of 40000 people of Biryunabu.

ln orderto protect my tribe

l must kill my daughter if necessary.

l have faith in you Maeseolsu.

Tell Mother l miss her very much.

l'm the chief of 40000 people of Biryunabu.

ln orderto protect my tribe

l must kill my daughter if necessary.

JlNYANG PALACE NAKRANG COMMANDERY

l've made my decision.

Jungji, Tanyeol, Jumje, Yeolgu, Dunyu and Gimang.

l'll punish the six prefectures involved in the uprising.

Any men who were involved in the uprising will be

thrown into the sea and the rest will be sold to

Xuantu and Liadong as slaves.

As forthe women sort out the pretty ones

and send them to high officials of the empire as slaves.

And shave the ugly ones' heads and

put them to work for life in mills.

Since General Yu is in Changan now

Captains Choi Li and Wang Goeng will take

charge of suppressing the rebels.

Captains Choi Li

COMMANDER ln charge of The King's guard and Wang Goeng heed my command.

l command you.

Captain Wang take 1500 men and go to

Tanyeol and wipe out the rebels.

l Wang Goeng will obey your command.

l'll wipe out the rebels and prevent any attack

from Goguryeo.

Very well.

Captain Choi Li take 3000 men and wipe out

the rebels in Jeomje Yeolgu, Dunyu and Gimang.

Put them on a bottomless ship and drown them in the sea!

How dare you! Heed His Majesty's command.

Your Majesty it is natural for people to steal

from their neighbor if they are starved forthree meals

steal from the government if they starve for 3 days

and eat their own children if they starve for 10 days.

Starvation was the cause of this rebellion.

Who'll be left to serve you

if you wipe out the six prefectures?

You will not obey me?

Obey His Majesty's command.

l ask you.

Yes Your Majesty.

Are you a man of Han orJoseon?

Your grandfather was awarded Han citizenship.

Answer me.

Did you not hear me?

Are you a man of Han orJoseon?

Your Majesty there could be but only one answer.

Captin Choi Li is your loyal...

l did not question you. l'm asking Choi Li.

l have angered you.

Please take my life.

Answer me.

Your life depends on your answer.

Are you a man of Han orJoseon?

You were not my subject but a rebel.

Take him away and execute him.

Yes Your Majesty.

l Choi Li heed your command.

Do you mean it?

Yes Your Majesty.

l ask you again.

Are you a man of Han orJoseon?

l Choi Li heed your command and answeryour question.

With the emperor's grace

l'm a Han right every part of me.

l'm not a man of Joseon.

l did not lie for fear of my life.

lt's because l can't save the people of Joseon

by dying a useless death.

Dead or alive every drop of my blood

every single part of me is of Joseon.

This is why we can't trust Joseon people no matter

how much time has passed.

What will you do Your Majesty?

Kill Choi Li.

OH BUGWl Minister of Nakrang

OH BUGWl Minister of Nakrang Now is not the time.

Wang Goeng and Choi Li already have 4500 men

undertheir command.

He might be a good soldier

but it's betterto have my back covered.

Choi Li...

That son of a...

Your Majesty.

l told l don't want to be bothered.

But Your Majesty the priest has asked foryou.

He says there's a sign of rebellion among the stars.

l vow before you.

l'll kill Liu Xian and destroy Nakrang and

reestablish the Old Joseon you founded.

And as a token of my pledge l give you my blood.

To that blood...

... may l add my blood?

Do you mean that?

You are Jasil's husband my one and only sister.

My dear comrade and a fellow man of Joseon.

l'll add my blood to that.

Choi Li's two daughters

will bring about the collapse of Nakrang?

l have observed the stars from dusk to dawn

without a blink of an eye.

JAMUK Astronomer of The Royal Palace A comet rose from the celestial sphere...

Enough of the gibberish. Get to the point.

Choi Li's daughters will be a threat to me?

l bet my life on it.

Choi Li will have two daughters before dawn tomorrow.

Hear me.

Yes Your Majesty.

Since l can't kill Choi Li just yet

l'll kill his two daughters instead.

Go to his house and relay my message.

Have him kill his own daughters.

l'll obey your command Your Majesty.

CHOl Ll'S RESlDENCE

- Leave them there. - Yes My Lady.

What's the matter?

WANG JA-SlL Choi Li's Second Wife l'm exhausted.

You stayed in the waterfortoo long.

You should lie down.

My Lady.

The baby's coming.

lnform the master. l'll call the midwife.

Yes My Lady.

Jasil is ready to give birth?

You shouldn't be so happy at the news.

Her baby will be born before yours.

Don't be silly.

l should go to her quarters.

MO HASO Choi Li's First Wife

The baby's ready to come.

Maybe your prayer's being answered

and you'll give birth before Lady Wang does.

l'll go get the midwife.

ls anyone there?

The lady is ready to give birth.

My baby come to your mother.

Among the 4500 men under our command

3000 are Joseon men and 1500 are Hans.

You take the Han men and go somewhere far away.

And you'll attack Liu Xian with 3000 men

while l'm away with the Han army?

Yes.

l'll leave as soon as Jasil gives birth.

Have some. lt's steamed pork.

Take it away.

Do you think l have an appetite?

But you need your strength.

You should eat as much as you can.

l brought you the fattiest part of the meat

so the baby will slide right out of you.

You fool.

Eating pork fat will help the delivery?

The baby's not coming out of my throat.

lt's fresh goat milk. Have some.

l'm fine.

You must force yourself to drink.

DALGEBl Dongobi's sister DONGOBl Mo Haso's maid You must gatheryour strength

to push the baby out.

That's right. Just take one sip.

No visitors allowed during childbirth. No visitors allowed during childbirth.

HOGOK NAKRANG'S CENTRAL ARMY

Choi Li open the door and receive the royal command.

Choi Li open the door and receive the royal command.

What is it at this hour?

l Choi Li am ready to receive the royal command.

Choi Li it has been thirty years since l came

to Nakrang on the emperor's command.

Nakrang has enjoyed peace and prosperity under my rule

but recent uprisings and rebellions have disturbed me.

Therefore l had Jamuk look to Heaven for an answer.

l asked where the rebellion and flood are coming from?

And Jamuk received an answer.

Jamuk has finally found the cause of the rebellion.

And it was coming from you Choi Li.

But it isn't you who would bring the fall of Nakrang.

lt's the destiny of two daughters born to you.

Therefore in compliance to the will of Heaven

l will kill your two daughters.

This is absurd.

You dare question to the king's command?

Be quiet and listen.

lf two daughters are born to you tonight

you will kill them with your own hands.

But l do not even know if l'll have sons or daughters.

This is absurd.

You will have no sons.

You'll take the life of your daughters.

Answer me.

The emperor has said no one in your house shall be

spared if you disobey his command.

l vow before you.

l'll kill Liu Xian and destroy Nakrang and

reestablish the Old Joseon you founded.

Captain Choi.

l shall obey the royal command.

lf l have daughters l'll strangle them myself.

That's insane.

You must have sons.

You must.

Please you have to have sons.

Otherwise the babies will die.

Don't worry. l know they're boys.

ls it a boy or a girl?

Of course it's a boy?

Why won't you answer me?

lt's a boy isn't it?

Lady Wang did you have a son or a rebel daughter?

The door is locked.

Then kick the door open!

Tell him it's a son.

But they'll soon find out it's a lie.

Do as l say.

And Jamuk is here with them?

Yes he's in the garden staring at the stars.

l need to put on a makeup.

Dress me in my most splendid dress

and put the most alluring makeup on me.

Also bring intoxicatingly sweet perfume of acanthus.

Why don't we attack now?

They only brought 30 men.

We can take them.

l can't... to save the lives my two children

over 300000 people of Nakrang...

Why are you dressed that way

right after giving birth?

l'll take that as a compliment.

Sir.

So it's a boy?

Yes.

Let me come in.

The room still reeks of blood afterthe childbirth.

Please give me a moment to clean the room.

l think it's only properto show the baby to fatherfirst.

l suppose.

By the way congratulations on your baby boy.

l'll wait.

Go and stay watch the baby.

Let no one come nearthe baby.

l'll protect the baby with my life.

l heard that you produced a son.

l know why you came here but return to your chamber.

You said my husband will have no son?

No man can escape his fate.

Choi Li has no sons.

My daughter was not fated to die.

Don't be stubborn. Give up your daughter.

CHANGHAE Today's East Sea She was born with the red spirit of the sun.

She wouldn't have come to this world through me if

she were meant to die after taking herfirst breath.

A baby born with the sun' energy cannot

die such a futile death.

l don't believe that.

No other baby but King Liu Xian's can be born

with the spirit of the sun.

But you said that no one could escape one's fate.

l'll pretend this conversation did not take place

for l sympathize with your predicament.

Please spare the life of my daughter sent by the heavens.

Only King Liu Xian's offspring can be from the heavens.

l'll give you everything my husband owns.

l'm grateful.

BAKREUNG PLAlN / Today's Bakreung Plain in northern Pyeongyang l'll also give you the fertile land my father willed to me.

l am fifty years old.

l am an old man

l don't have any need for land.

l am half dead and half barely alive.

Which means l cannot be seduced by material things.

The night air is cold.

lt's not good for a woman who just gave birth.

You should return to your chamber.

Has your lust for women died also?

There must still be half a man breathing inside you.

Don't you want to hold me?

My Lady...

Why aren't you pushing?

l can see the baby's head.

l don't want to.

Do you want to suffocate your baby to death?

lf l can l want to stay like this way foryears

so that my baby will live in my womb forever.

But it'll kill you too.

lf the baby has to die it'll die with me.

My Lady...

But it could be a boy.

Can l come live with you?

l know.

lt's a girl.

My poor daughter who'll be killed by herfather

the minute she's born.

But the baby wants to come into this world.

Where are you going?

To get sesame oil.

l'll get it.

You just sterilize that.

We'll use that to cut the umbilical cord.

You're a motheryourself.

Why can't you understand me?

My breasts are swollen with milk.

l have been watching what l eat and where l sleep

so l can nurse your precious baby.

l have not even lain next to my husband.

How can l not understand how you feel?

Just leave me alone.

You're not the only one in pain.

The baby is pain even more in your womb.

Dalgaebi...

l have to bring the baby out of your womb

no matter what you say.

- Here's some honey. - Okay.

Taste this for me.

Put in anotherfish and use soy sauce sparingly.

Her swelling won't come down if it's too salty.

Yes.

ls it true they'll kill the baby if it's a girl?

Be quiet.

They say Lady Wang had a baby boy.

There will be two boys in the house right?

Shut your mouth!

lf Mo Haso has a daughtertoo...

lt is a girl.

Then please spare my daughter.

They don't both have to die.

l have no powerto do so.

l know that only you can help me.

Jamuk...

l remember...

... the way you looked at me...

... on my wedding day.

That was...

Any man would have...

Please spare my daughter.

Please leave me. l cannot breathe.

My Lady...

Do not toy with this old man any longer.

Stop...

Stop.

l have no strength to reject you.

l would give you everything

if l hadn't given birth just now...

But this is all l have to offeryou now.

Mom!

Mom!
