...to believe.

When we hear the term "UFO,"

the first thought
that comes to many of our minds

is an alien craft
hovering high above the Earth.

But in fact, UFO,
or unidentified flying object,

is a catchall term used to
describe anything in the sky

that simply cannot be identified
at any given time.

It might be a weather balloon,
a meteor,

a military drone,

or in the case of one woman's
sighting in Monterrey, Mexico...

...something
far more unbelievable.

Could it be a flying witch?

In 2006 in the mountain town
of Monterrey, Mexico,

Diana Perla Chapa
was busy setting up a meeting

for a local group
of UFO aficionados

when a few of her associates
called her attention

to a strange object in the sky.

Diana quickly scrambled

to get a steady shot
of the object.

And when it finally
came into focus...

...she couldn't believe
her eyes.

In the beginning when I saw it,

I said, "It could be a balloon."

And then I'm correcting myself.

No, there is no balloon
that flies like that.

What was even
more startling to Diana

was how the object was flying
through this particular area,

an area with very strong winds.

This object,
whatever you want to call it,

never changes the height,
direction, the speed.

It never changes anything.

It just moves so slowly,
but...

in a place in the mountain
the current of the air

is so fast and so strong,

they don't allow anybody

to fly their own
little airplanes or whatever.

It passes through the current.

It doesn't even move!

How? How?
Just explain me that.

Nobody has been able
to explain me why.

Were it a drone
or a kite or a balloon,

it would have been
knocked around

by the high winds
that are prevalent in the area.

This floated through.

That's why it caught
people off guard,

because if it was just something
floating 'cause of the wind,

it would move
a little bit more erratically,

but it was moving
in a very steady way.

Its unnaturally steady
movement was certainly unique,

but the object's shape,
which was at first baffling,

soon began to look
very familiar --

familiar and terrifying.

Could it be a witch?

You tell me
because I don't know.

It looks like a witch.

I mean, it literally looks
like a witch

is flying on a broom
across the sky.

McNEILL: This looks absolutely
like a person

standing up in the sky,
moving over the landscape,

maybe in a robe or a dress
or a cloak of some kind,

but absolutely a full-bodied
apparition in the sky.

I think the fact that
other people are seeing this

adds validity
to what's going on.

It's hard to tell
whether this is

some sort
of supernatural occurrence

or some alien occurrence.

Is this some sort of glitch
in our dimension?

Are we seeing something else
that just isn't in our reality?

Eager to find out
exactly what this thing was,

witch or otherwise,

Diana immediately
showed the video

to several experts
in various fields.

We interviewed a person
that has --

that makes these balloons
with fire,

the special kite maker,
a pilot, astronomers,

and they all conclude,

"I don't know what that is."

Once word got out
about Diana's video,

things got really serious

when two men in black --

that's right, men in black --

paid an unexpected visit
to Diana's home.

They were in black
just like in the movies,

and they said,
"Don't publish it."

We just took it like
somebody wanted to play a joke.

But make no mistake --

the men in black
are no joking matter.

So the men in black
first burst on the scene

around the '60s in
Point Pleasant, West Virginia.

Their main goal is to
discourage people

that have seen strange things
from talking about them.

They threaten family members.

They threaten jobs.

They basically do anything that
they can to hush up the subject.

McNEILL: What they appear to do
in most people's reports

is manage our perceptions.

They show up to let you know
you did see something,

and they don't want you
to talk about it.

Any tale I've ever heard
of the men in black

has usually been a little
sinister,

a little threatening.

So if you were visited by them,
it's very possible that you have

stumbled upon something
you shouldn't have seen.

But Diana was not
concerned about their warning.

I said,
"Come on. You're joking."

I just took it on a stride.

After more research,
Diana also discovered

that this was not the first time
this witch-like figure

was spotted in Monterrey.

A local policeman reported
an incredibly similar sighting

just two years earlier.

A policeman
was in his patrol car,

and he says that a witch dropped
from a tree to his car.

We asked him to make a drawing
of what he saw,

and it's almost the same
as what we taped.

Ooh, these two things
seem related.

Maybe they are.
Maybe they're not.

But to everyone who comes

and adds to the story
and builds to it,

it now takes on
a life of its own.

It starts small and then
becomes something greater.

Though still not 100% sure

the unidentified flying object
was a witch,

Diana knows the video
will bewilder

and capture the imagination
for years to come.

It doesn't matter your color,

your race, your economy.

Everybody gets interested
in something

that it cannot be explained.

the United States entered
the Prohibition era,

where the sale and consumption
of alcohol was banned.

Thus began the era
of the speakeasy.

They ranged in both quality
and size,

from high-end jazz clubs

to dingy, crowded basements

where organized crime
held the reins --

criminals, illegal activity,
and booze.

The human toll of the speakeasy
era was significant,

which is perhaps why today
in some of these historic sites,

the echoes of that toll
can still be heard and felt.

How many people
were murdered in here?

A group of
paranormal investigators

from the Chicago area...

Holy.

...experienced all that
and more firsthand

when they explored
one of the most

infamous speakeasies
of them all.

Spirits, we call upon Al Capone.

In Melrose Park,
a suburb of Chicago,

stands the building
that used to house

the Casa Madrid Gambling Club.

It served as the headquarters
of Rocco DeGrazia,

a brutal mobster
with ties to Al Capone.

The site is rumored
to be haunted

by some of these gangsters
of the past.

In 2013, a team
of paranormal investigators

led by David Winkleman

decided to investigate
the old Casa Madrid,

which had been turned
into a tire warehouse,

to see if any of
those rumors were true.

- This is crazy.
- Everybody flash yourselves.

- What did you see?
- All tops.

Everybody be silent.

My name's David Winkleman.

I shot the video
from Casa Madrid.

The building, at the time,
was empty.

Could could just pretty much
enter this very large room,

and it was completely
filled with tires.

I felt kind of claustrophobic.

Somebody's got
a flashlight?

The team decided
to spread out...

Everybody film
in every direction.

John, give me
the camera real quick.

- You see that light just go?
- Yeah, I did.

...when suddenly...

- That barrel fell.
- Dude, something just.

- Look!
- Where? Where?

Where? Where? Where?

- Oh, my God!
- Where?

Who's down here?

Someone walked past
that barrel.

Hey, is anybody
over there?

We heard
a really loud crashing noise

directly in front of us.

This big dolly was sitting
by the tires,

and it rolled across the room.

McNEILL:
It's a massive amount of energy

for a spirit
to even knock over a glass.

60 pounds is a lot of energy
being expended.

The fact that they can
move a considerable weight

could be a dangerous situation

for some of these investigators
to be in there.

I definitely, at that
moment, did feel in danger

because something physical
had happened,

and it was so loud.

I just felt very aggressive
energy down there.

A very dark energy down there.

Relax. Relax.
We follow Jesus Christ.

Don't be scared.

Everybody, chill.
It's cool.

And as David and his friends

were trying to keep their cool,

something suddenly appeared

that made doing that
much more difficult.

Watch closely.

We're glad that
you're communicating.

You have to know that
Jesus Christ is protecting us.

I got orbs flying
directly at me,

and my lens is going
completely out of focus.

- Oh, my!
- Oh, my God.

- I saw that, dude!
- It flew right into me, dude!

This rod of energy floated

right in front of us like it
was checking us out.

- Oh,.
- Holy.

It stopped in front
of the camera!

- Holy.
- Oh, my God.

It had me pretty spooked,

especially 'cause
they were flying into me.

You know, I could actually feel
something in the room with us.

Usually you think of orbs

as these round balls of light,

but these actually
stretched out,

and that was bizarre.

You could see it
with your naked eye,

and you could see it
with the camera, so it's there.

The team weekly determined

that the orbs posed
no immediate threat.

Everybody be silent.

But what happened next
was a different story.

The team set up
their Spirit Box,

a device used to communicate
with the dead

by picking up
available frequencies

that a spirit can then
manipulate

into simple words or phrases.

They wasted no time in getting
right down to business.

I was just wondering if
I could call out

the spirit of Al Capone
to come say hi to us.

Any spirits in this building,
give me your name.

What's your name?

Could it be
Rocco DeGrazia himself?

The team asks Rocco
a series of questions.

Rocco, what did you
do down here?

"Drank vodka."

I want to know, is Al Capone
here tonight with us?

The spirits
definitely said

that they drank vodka
down there,

and we actually had Al Capone

tell us that he was
present with us personally.

How many people
were murdered down here?

Are there any bodies
in these walls?

Rocco was a debt collector,

and he would bring people
to the back rooms,

and they'd work out
some kind of a payment schedule,

I guess you could say.

If they couldn't come up
with something,

I'm sure Rocco filled in
the blanks

where that was concerned.

Can you tell us
where the bodies are?

McNEILL: This particular
haunting seems like

a particular individual.

There's words being spoken
and memories being drawn out

and commentary being given.

It seems less like
an imprint of energy.

There's more of a conscious mind
behind this.

There's a person communicating.

There's a historical figure.

It's probably
the most really interesting

EVP evidence
that I've ever heard.

It's like a direct line
to the spirit world,

which is very unusual
for a scenario like this.

Going to a haunted place is scary enough as it is,

but when you're dealing with
spirits of people

who used to be killers,
gangsters,

it definitely added
a whole new aspect of fear

to the investigation.

What the is that?

David and his team got more
than they bargained for,

proof that gangster ghosts
can still command attention...

How many people
were murdered down here?

But the lingering effects
of the encounter

were far from over.

After that investigation,

I definitely had what we call
a paranormal hangover.

We did feel a very aggressive
energy there,

and we were thinking
this might be

'cause of their past
as Mafia members.

All of this activity
is being propelled

also by the investigators.

They're gonna feel,
once they leave that location,

like total zombies.

You're, like, living
in a cloud after that.

Casa Madrid definitely changed
the way I look at everything,

and it shook all of us.

- That barrel fell.

get the scare of a lifetime.

The taiga in Western Siberia

is one of the largest
boreal forests in the world,

covering over
600,000 square miles,

an area twice as large
as the entire state of Texas.

Unlike the tropical rainforests
of Africa that harbor gorillas,

boreal forests
are home to animals

adapted to withstand
frigid temperatures year-round,

from bison to moose

to grizzly bears

to...whatever this thing is.

It's the 2010 hunting
season in Western Siberia.

A 12-year-old boy named Ivan
is with his father tracking game

when they hear some
strange noises up ahead.

A few moments later, they spot
some movement in the trees.

Then, suddenly,
watch as they witness

a large ape-like creature
running through the woods.

Both father and son are stunned.

Watch again.

Ivan, now 21 years old,
walks us through it.

Amazingly, Ivan's dog
also seems to be at a loss.

It looks like
some pretty, like, hulky,

black, towering beast thing,
and it moves fast.

It is hauling.

And at one point,
it dodges behind a tree,

and then it jumps.

You could almost see
the muscular shoulder blades.

You could see its arms
in mid-jump as it lands

and continues to take off
through the forest.

This thing is huge.

There definitely seems to be

almost a gorilla-like motion
to it.

Of course, we don't know
of any wild gorillas in Russia.

That's because
gorillas can only survive

in tropical temperatures
averaging 73 degrees.

So, what is it?

We don't get to see
a whole lot of information,

but what we do see
is a very large, very heavy,

and very fast-moving
upright creature

that looks exactly like
a Bigfoot.

Bigfoot --
known in Russia as the yeti,

certainly no stranger
to these parts.

Russia is a common place
to see cryptids.

It seems as if the environment
is ripe for cryptids.

Obviously,
there's a lot of woods.

There's a lot of places

that don't have a lot
of folks around,

so a cryptid can sort of
live its cryptid life.

The isolation,
the freedom to do as they will

unbesmirched
by the interference of man,

yet close enough to have
these occasional encounters --

that's what makes these
particular places perfect

for this type of cryptid.

As terrifying as
the sight of this creature is,

curiosity outweighs their fear,

and Ivan and his father
stay in the area

hoping to get a closer look.

It's always good to do a real
reconnaissance of the area

where something like this
is seen.

That's the only way
we're gonna really gain

any hard evidence.

And there may be
a very good reason for that.

McNEILL: There's a newer theory
about Bigfoot

that instead of just being
a cryptid here,

he is an interdimensional
creature

who can move
not just through our world,

but through other dimensions
and other spaces, as well.

To my eye, the creature
that we're seeing

out in the woods there

is flickering
in and out of existence.

It's not going behind trees
and coming in front of them.

It's actually glitching
in and out of existence

as it moves across the screen.

With more than
600,000 square miles

of forest to go through,

not to mention
the possible existence

of a multitude
of parallel dimensions,

Ivan is probably right
about that.

Any college student
will tell you

finding a decent,
relatively cheap place to live

while on break from school

is worth whatever annoyances
you may have to put up with,

like lousy roommates,
bad plumbing, cramped quarters,

and in the case of one student
in upstate New York,

the occasional intrusion...

...of a poltergeist.

In 2018, while home from college
on his winter break,

Nicholas Long moved into his
friend's second-floor apartment

in upstate New York.

She had warned him

that she thought
the apartment might be haunted,

and as proof, showed him
this video of a doormat moving

seemingly on its own.

But Nicholas
wasn't too concerned --

that is, until he began to hear
strange noises...

...that he could not explain,

like on this night when he heard
phantom footsteps

throughout the apartment...

What the?

...and the sound of a door

opening and closing by itself.

Guys, I've been hearing
weird noises,

and this door
is opening and closing.

Yo, what the?

Oh, my God.

Hi. My name is Nicholas Long,
and I'm the one who recorded

the video of the paranormal
activities in the apartment.

I don't know if the door handle
physically turned or not,

but it unlatched,

and for that to happen,
it needs a lot of force

or someone to actually be
physically turning the handle.

I did go upstairs,
and all the windows

in the attic were latched
and locked.

They were completely closed.

Yo.

This door opened, closed.

And as he went to go check it,

as if someone were behind it,
like, "Ah-ha!"

Oh, there's no one here.

Looking up the stairs,
there's no way someone

could have played with it
and then gotten a quick escape.

Nicholas was disturbed.

A few nights later, he brought
over his family dog, Polly,

to spend the night with him

for company
and maybe some protection.

What was that?

Her behavior only
made him more concerned.

We were just sitting
around in the living room,

and we started hearing noises
from my room.

Polly, what was it?

Polly's very reserved,

and she doesn't really
bark at something

unless she's playing with them
or if there's a threat.

Even though she didn't bark,
her hair was standing up,

and she was on edge.

That's how I knew
something was actually here.

Animals have a sixth sense
that we don't have,

and they can feel and hear
things that we can't.

I mean, there's no
scientific proof,

but it's kind of a known fact

that they see things
that we don't.

I don't know if you can
train dogs to act like

there's paranormal activity
going on,

but this dog really
kind of nails it.

Very interested in something
going on in the room.

Not too keen on
running in there,

which I would think would be
a dog's first instinct,

if he hears something,
to just go run and check it out.

Polly's behavior and all the unexplainable events

had Nicholas almost convinced
that the apartment was haunted,

but he wanted to be sure.

So he came up with
a ghost test of sorts

using four pieces of PVC pipe.

If there's anything here,
knock one of these things over.

No strings, anything.

I'm walking around it.

They're pretty sturdy.

I set up my camera and tripod.

I leave and go sit
in my living room.

Then, just
a few minutes later...

Sure enough, I hear
one of them knock over.

I go back into the room,

and as I peek around
the corner...

...the other one falls over.

What the hell?

What I like about
this shot is that

you see the camera
reflected in the mirror.

You see the pipes.

Everything is accounted for,
so I definitely don't think

this has been tampered with
in any way.

So these pipes end up
falling on their own.

Only two of them fell.

It was almost like
a conscious choice --

this one and that one.

These are, like,
sturdy, too.

A little bit of air flow on me

and me stepping around them
on the floor

is not moving them.

After I tried blowing them over

and getting
the other two to fall

and seeing that
they weren't budging,

that when I said, "All right.
That's pretty cool."

It's very strange that they just
randomly happened

to fall the way they did --

one, then the other --

and, miraculously,
the other two stayed up.

To me, that lends
a bit of credence

to his little test there.

Maybe there's something
going on there

that we can't quite explain.

That piled in with everything
else I caught,

I do believe that
there is something else

in that apartment.

After proving to himself

that the apartment was haunted,

Nicholas was able
to relax a bit.

Yeah, that's pretty cool.

Ironically enough, I slept like
a baby in that room that night.

And though he has
since left the apartment

and returned to school,

he would welcome the chance
to stay there again.

I don't fear it.

If anything, more intrigued
and interested in it.

I had no issues with conducting

my own little experiments
in the past,

so I wouldn't mind
doing it again.

Guys, I've been hearing
weird noises.

I did like the fact
that he wasn't afraid.

He didn't resort to
fear and panic,

and that's the way to go.

spotted up high in the sky...

...perhaps no other profession
has more personal experience

than airline pilots.

They are constantly
on the lookout

for something unexpected

that might complicate
the flight.

Whether birds,
natural phenomena,

or other man-made crafts,

they've seen it all,

or so you might think.

There's aliens out here!

In Kansas City,
one off-duty pilot

was spending some quality time
on the ground...

Do you see the white dot there?

...when he saw something

he could neither identify...

It looks like
a balloon, but it's not.

- ...nor explain.
- That is super weird.

Aliens!

June 2019.

It was a bright, clear day
in Kansas City.

Did you put the chickens up?

Clint Banning, an airline pilot,
was at a cookout with family

when something unusual appeared
in the open skies above.

Wow.

There are two lights
up here in the sky.

We can't figure out
what they are.

Despite his vast experience

with all things airborne,

he had no idea
what he was looking at.

It looks like a balloon,

but it ain't moving.

The clouds are moving,
but it's not.

While we were hanging out,
I get a phone call from my uncle

who lived in the neighborhood.

And he asked for us to go
outside and look up.

- Do you see the white dot there?
- There's two of them!

Nobody knew what they were,

but they were
really high up there,

and there were
a couple bright lights.

- They're not even moving!
- Do you have binoculars?

The end is near!

- Aliens.
- Spy satellites.

That is weird as hell.

I don't know what that is.

Nobody was really
scared of anything.

They weren't moving,
but it was perplexing,

I guess, is the best word
I can come up with for it.

If it was a balloon,
it should be moving

while the clouds are moving.

The fact that he's a pilot
adds expertise

in things in the sky.

So if he is unable to identify

or at least even hazard a guess
as to what it is,

it's probably
nothing mundane, then.

Then something
that gave the object

more perspective
suddenly appeared.

There's a plane going
right by this one.

It's right in the middle
of that cloud.

It's right there.

When I see
the first plane go by,

it appears it is
between the viewer

and the unidentified object.

So from that, we can judge
that the glowing object

is at a much higher altitude

and must be significantly larger

because the plane looks
very small in the foreground.

So just perspective-wise, the
object would have to be larger.

There goes another
airplane underneath it.

- Did you see that?
- Yeah. Yep.

Those things are way
higher than the airplanes.

They're not even moving!

These things
obviously are there.

Everybody at the party saw them.

They're very prominent
on the camera.

Now, what these things are --

that's a completely
different question.

If they're balloons,
they're pretty dang big balloons

'cause they were higher than
that plane that just went by.

They're -- seem to be right

in a very frequently used
flight path of planes.

If these are weather balloons,

they're certainly
in a very bad spot.

If those are weather balloons,

they would not have airplanes
flying underneath them, either,

'cause, like, you have a cable
connected to weather balloons.

Also, other crafts
of an Earth-bound nature

wouldn't just be stationary
like that, either.

They were out there
for at least an hour,

and they really didn't move
over the course of that hour

until the clouds
basically rolled in overhead

to where we could
no longer see them.

Dang!

And it wasn't just
Clint's family

that saw this phenomenon.

During the time
these unidentifiable forms

were visible,

several witnesses reached out
to local media and government

hoping to get some answers.

One of those institutions,
the National Weather Service,

tweeted a response
that did nothing

to quell people's curiosity.

When we did see the tweet,
it perplexed us even more,

and then we kind of
got more carried away

about, like, oh, my gosh!

This could really be
something crazy.

McNEILL:
Any time an authority decides,

"I'm gonna comment

on this potentially
paranormal experience,"

it's a whole new layer
of veracity to that experience.

Interest about
the origin of the objects

remained so high

that it prompted the Kansas City
chapter of MUFON,

the Mutual UFO Network,

to organize a town hall meeting
to try and determine

whether these objects
were sent up from the Earth

or came down
from somewhere else.

To date, no definitive
conclusion has been reached,

but Clint is keeping
a very open mind.

I've never personally
seen anything other than this

that would make me believe,
although, you know,

from scientific studies,
you know,

I certainly believe that UFOs
are definitely a possibility,

and we're not the only life
in this universe.

It does make you wonder
when you see stuff like that.

In Greek mythology,

the Sirens were beautiful
but dangerous creatures

who lured nearby sailors
with their enchanting song.

Those who heard
the Sirens' music

could not resist
the temptation to draw near.

And as lore goes, their lives
would end in shipwreck

and destruction.

Perhaps the moral of the story

is to be wary of the mysterious
sounds we may hear

and resist the temptation
to follow them to their source.

Let the woeful fate of these
ancient sailors be a warning.

The dead of winter, 2013,
in Wetzikon, Switzerland,

Matthew Jayaraman was coming
home after a long day at work

when a strange sound
caught his attention.

Intrigued, he followed it
to its apparent source...

...a manhole cover leading
to the sewers of the city.

It was a repeating
musical melody

that just seemed to
repeat itself over and over.

It was just very unusual,

and it was very loud, as well.

The noise kept going
as I walked home.

I could also hear the noise
again from another manhole cover

but not as loud,

so it was all interconnected
underground.

McNEILL:
People know their spaces.

People know what sounds
they're supposed to hear

in their spaces, and when
we hear something different,

that's a legitimate cause
for concern.

What's causing them?

Is it something mechanical?

Maybe there's construction
somewhere in the town?

Maybe they're drilling?

Maybe it's something beyond.

Maybe it is something to fear.

There have been some
strange things

found in sewers over the years.

In New York, you have the legend
of the alligators of the sewers.

On the West Coast,
we have something

a little more nefarious.

We have the lizard people
of Los Angeles.

This is
a hundreds-of-year-old legend

that a race
of lizard-like people

live under the ground
where Los Angeles sits today,

and they come out at night
to feed on pets

and other small animals.

Both of those stories are
completely crazy but terrifying.

It could explain
the strange sounds we hear

in this video today.

Matthew eventually headed home

and hasn't heard
the noises since.

But if, or when, he does,

he may approach things
differently.

If I could do it all again,

I would open up
the manhole cover

and go down and investigate

and try and find out
what the noise really was.

My advice is not to heed
the Siren's call.

Don't go in there.
Do not go in there.

What are you gonna gain?

But of course,
not all mysterious sounds

are as enticing
as what Matthew heard.

Some are downright terrifying.

In 2015, not too far away
on the European continent,

Chris Stein and his wife
ran to their window

when they heard this
from inside their home.

What makes this video
even more horrifying

is the sound's seeming affect
on another observer.

What's going on with that kid?

I've never seen a kid
that still before in my life.

He just stands there as if
he's in a trance or something.

The kids transfixed by the sound
was scarier than the sound.

The voyeuristic view
that that video gave us

looking out the window

at this kid
reacting to this noise

was really eerie
in a really cool way.

The sound is drony,

and then to look out the window
and see the kid

just frozen in fear
standing in the street --

it's almost something
straight out of a horror film.

The sound hasn't returned since,

and the young boy
has seemingly recovered

from his apparent shock.

And believe it or not,
that sound paled in comparison

to what one Canadian man heard
echoing through the woods

on this wintry day
in Witset, British Columbia.

Not human.
Not animal.

Something decidedly in between.

So what, then, could be making
this horrifying sound?

The screaming in this video
reminds me of a wendigo

'cause they can scream
really loud,

and it sounds
a little bit human-like.

They live in the woods,

and they also are thought
to exist in Canada.

We're hearing
what sounds like

shrieking and crying,
some insane amounts of pain.

As a paranormal investigator,

I can relate that
to something like the banshee,

which is some evil
witch-y spirit.

When you hear the cries
of the banshee,

it means the demise
for the person that hears it.

It's a very unusual sound
that I've never heard before.

Whatever it is,
it doesn't sound happy.

I think that people
should be alarmed,

if not fearful for their life.

Certainly take notice of it.

Listen as long as you can,

and stay sheltered in place
would be my advice.

Whatever it was,
it eventually stopped screaming,

leaving the people who heard it
shaken but relieved.

As a species,
man is a curious creature.

And in these clips --
terrifying sounds,

strange sounds, sometimes
even soothing sounds --

we often go headfirst
into the danger.

We just want to know what it is.

There's aliens out here!
