The Eloise Psychiatric Hospital,

located just outside Detroit,

is a notorious institution
with a long horrifying history

of patient abuse and neglect.

It is rumored that those unlucky
enough to be admitted

were subjected to straitjackets,
shackles, and even lobotomies.

Fortunately, the mental asylum

stopped receiving patients
in 1977.

Unfortunately, more than 7,000
former residents

of the Eloise Hospital
and Infirmary

are buried on the grounds,

making it no surprise
that it's earned a reputation

for being one
of the most haunted

and feared places in Michigan.

The now empty buildings attract
paranormal investigators

from around the country,

including one group
whose experience at the asylum

was truly terrifying.

It's the Eloise
Psychiatric Hospital.

We'll be conducting
an investigation here.

In August 2018,

the Detroit Paranormal
Expeditions team

conducted an overnight
investigation

in one of the buildings at
the Eloise Psychiatric Hospital.

They set up cameras
on the third floor,

which some believe to be
the most haunted area.

Around 1:40 a.m. the team
members left the building,

all except for one.

A few minutes later, Todd Bonner
suddenly got the feeling

he was not truly alone
when he heard these footsteps.

Hello?

Hello?

Hi, my name is Todd Bonner,

and I'm with Detroit
Paranormal Expeditions.

I heard footsteps behind me,
and I turned around.

I shined my flashlight,
and I could just feel,

like, this energy
coming towards me.

I felt I should leave so
I kind of ran out of there.

Todd exited the building
and joined the others,

who were monitoring
the action from outside.

The cameras inside continued
to roll,

when suddenly more activity.

First, an orb flies by one
of the cameras

followed by loud sounds recorded
throughout the building.

You can hear
the shower curtains

going in the patient showers.

You can hear cabinets
opening and closing.

You can hear doors closing,

and there is nobody
in that building,

and it's a good, I would say,
five minutes on that

that you can hear
that stuff happening.

When you're looking
to legitimize

any claim
of paranormal activity,

you're looking for
overlapping elements.

In this case, something is
flying by the screen.

There are sounds.

There are things that clearly
weren't them

so this could be proof
that something happened

or was about to happen.

Todd and a few of
his team members decide

to re-enter
the building to investigate.

They search the entire premises,
but nothing.

There was no one there
so we kind of stayed

maybe another half hour,
and then we called it a night.

But that was not
the end of their investigation.

A few months later, encouraged
by their first visit...

Good day, everyone.

We are in Eloise.

...the team returns
to the Eloise

to conduct
a walk-through of the hospital.

As nightfall approaches,
three team members

are walking down a hallway
when they suddenly hear

what sounds like footsteps
behind them.

And then...

The team is in disbelief.

Time to go.

It appears a vinyl
record was somehow flung at them

from the top
of a filing cabinet,

shattering into pieces
at their feet.

What the?

that took the video.

We kept feeling like somebody
was walking behind us

when we heard these footsteps.

We stopped for a minute.

We were talking
amongst ourselves,

wondering what that was.

It was then that
the record was thrown.

My opinion, with all the years

that I've done my work
with psychic mediumship,

if something has that much
energy to break something,

I don't want to stick around
and see what can happen next.

But was this spirit
trying to hurt them

or simply get
their attention?

A lot of times people
misinterpret things

being thrown as, like,
a violent reaction,

but in reality,
it just takes so much energy

for something that doesn't
have a physical body

to interact with
our physical world,

so it might come off
stronger than they want.

Spirits just want
their stories told,

and sometimes they want
to get your attention,

and if the smaller more subtle
methods aren't doing

that sometimes it takes...

the breaking of an object.

"Hey, I'm here. Listen to me."

Sometimes that works,
and sometimes it sends people

screaming out of the building.

In seven years of me doing
paranormal investigations,

this one by far is the most
intense I've ever experienced.

Dude, I thought you had
nerves of steel, man.

While the paranormal activity

at the former mental asylum
terrified these investigators,

it didn't keep the crew
from going back for more...

This is like Christmas.

...quite the opposite.

I've been doing
paranormal investigating

for over eight years now,

and it's one of the most haunted
places we've ever been to.

I think because we go in there

and try to communicate
with spirits that are there,

maybe they were
playing with us?

be the mothership of all UFOs?

Seeing a strange light
in the sky,

one that could in fact be a UFO,
is doubtless a thrilling

and potentially
frightening experience.

Seeing more than one makes it
even more so,

and when you increase
the number to over a dozen,

well, it's positively
mind-blowing.

Now, imagine for a moment
that the multitude of lights

you're seeing aren't actually
individual ships at all

but rather the edge points
of one gigantic mothership.

That is what a father
and son witnessed one night.

February 2018,
Preston, England,

Craig Megson and his son

were on their way home
after spending the day

celebrating
the 6-year-old's birthday.

They were about to catch a train
at the station

when they suddenly saw
a floating light in the sky

and then another
and another and another.

My name is Craig, and I'm
the one that took the video.

By the time Craig
started filming,

four lights had already passed
through their field of vision

and out of sight,

but there were
many more to come.

This one was nuts because
it definitely had sort of,

like, a mothership vibe to it.

So individual points of light

seeming to move somewhat
independent of each other

but largely maintaining
this overall structure

of a long drawn-out shape.

It was really compelling.

Oh, oh! Oh!

It could either be a formation
of 12 lights or so,

or they could be the tips
of one gigantic spaceship,

but they all seem
to be moving in unison.

So it makes me believe

that there is
some kind of intelligence to it.

It's not just, like, you know,
floating all over the place.

And they're not Chinese lanterns
because they're a lot smaller.

They would be rising,

not necessarily moving
in formation like that,

and eventually
they would expire.

So what was it?

If it really was some kind of
Air Force-controlled plane,

you would definitely hear
some kind of noise happening,

even a hum
or a buzz or whatever.

Oh!

Though Craig and his
son had never witnessed anything

like this before,

UFO sightings in England
and all over the UK

are not as uncommon as you
might think, just ask Craig.

Some of the best UFO videos
that we get come out of the UK,

England, in particular.

Not only are they very common,

but they're really generally
very good quality.

We see some great ones
right over London sometimes

of these very unusual
lights and flying objects.

As for the giant
UFO mothership

or multiple UFOs over Preston,

they eventually floated away

leaving many
unanswered questions.

But one thing's for sure,
Craig couldn't have imagined

a better surprise
for his son's 6th birthday,

one he will never forget.

At the end of the day,

no matter
what this is a super cool father

and son moment.

If I'm hanging out with my kid
and we get to see some UFOs

in the sky, we'll have a story
to tell each other for life,

and it'll bond us even further.

there are a few that come
to mind almost immediately --

vape shop manager.

But don't take our word for it,
just ask the manager

of this vape shop in Arizona
when he comes under attack.

In February 2019, Rob Mullenix
was working his manager shift

at a vape shop
in Phoenix, Arizona.

It was just another
ordinary day.

Hours would go by in silence,

with the occasional customer
popping in, when suddenly...

My name is Robert Mullenix.

My mind was absolutely blank
at first.

I mean, I jumped a little bit
and then it was standing up

and looking, and in my mind,
I'm like, "What was that?"

First thought in my head is,

"I'm locking the shop
and getting out of here."

Like, I don't know
what was happening.

But believe it or not,

this wasn't
the only weird event

that Rob experienced
during his time at the shop.

I've been working there
since the end of January.

I'll be honest, there's a lot
of weird stuff

that goes on in that shop.

It almost feels like someone
is with you at all times.

I first started noticing it
with the random stuff

falling off the shelves.

At first I was like,
"Well, I guess it's possible,"

but then it turned into, like,
an every week occurrence.

I mean, like, we do have, like,
door chimes when the door opens.

You get the little doot,
doot, doot thing,

and I've had that go off
before without the door opening.

So I'm like, "Well, that's
a little strange," you know?

You'll get random cold air
spurts by you

and stuff like that
when there's no fans on.

All of this,

in addition to
the glass counter breaking,

made Rob think that there could
be something paranormal at work.

There's definitely something
going on in there.

There's some kind of
spirit activity happening.

These are all things you
sort of check off

your paranormal
investigator checklist saying,

"Okay, I've got a cold spot.

I've got, you know,
these bells going off,

"nobody is coming through
the doors, happens all the time.

Things are falling
off the shelves."

Although slightly freaked out,

Rob continued
to manage the store.

I still
went to work normal.

I just kind of stayed
more cautious to everything,

kind of kept my ears open
a little more to see

if I could hear anything.

And Rob was right to
stay on alert

because three months later...

I had actually
called off work that day

because I was sick.

And then, the guy that covered
for me calls me,

and he's like,
"I'm done with this shop."

And I'm like, "Why?"

He's like,
"You got glass breaking."

And I'm like,
"No, that happened to me.

What are you talking about?"
And then he sent me the video,

and I was like, "Oh, my god.
Again this happened?"

I was completely shocked.
I was completely freaked out.

Like, what are the odds
this happened again?

And that put any scientific
reason out of my head.

I was like, "There's no
scientific reason

this would happen that close of
a span in the same exact shop."

Okay, maybe you can accept it

once as poorly manufactured,

but the fact
that it happens again.

It just seems too coincidental.

This is more than just something
getting knocked off a shelf.

This is more than just a light
going on and off.

This is damage.

This seemed targeted
to get someone's attention.

I mean, the guy is sitting
right there,

and the display case
right in front of him

is the one that shatters.

The shattering of glass,

the disruption of
an orderly space,

is something normally
associated with a poltergeist.

Poltergeists screw with
your environment.

That's their thing.
That's what they like to do.

So when we see the destruction
of property,

the disruption of peace,
my thought first is poltergeist.

But if this was
the work of a poltergeist,

why here?

We don't know the history
of this place,

so if there was something
that was haunting this area,

it would probably be
most likely something

that has attached itself

to the owner
or any of the employees.

And that just might be
the case with Rob

because five years earlier

he had had a different
paranormal experience,

also involving glass.

When I lived in Chicago,
in the winter,

the windows fog up
no matter what.

I went into my room one day,

and my name was written
in the fog on the window.

And I asked my sister,
who I was living with,

I was like, "Did you
write my name on the window?"

and she swore up
and down that she didn't.

So there was that, my name
just appearing on a window.

That was a little crazy.

Spirits can attach themselves
to a person

for any number of reasons.

Perhaps there's some sort
of connection with the person

while they were living.

Perhaps they just simply
like the person

or they have some sort of energy
that they're drawn to.

Maybe they have the energy

that allows them to manifest
or to do things.

It's entirely possible,
the fact that maybe

he is sensitive
to that contact,

he is open enough to recognize
when something is around,

that spirit recognizes that,
and they see him, and they go,

"Ooh, that guy
can probably sense me.

I'm gonna make you
pay attention to me."

And this could be
one of those instances.

Rob is keeping himself
open and prepared...

...in case it happens again.

I've just always been
interested in it,

and I've always thought
to myself, "It's out there."

You know, there's too many
unexplainable things

that don't match up
with science at all.

As for the shop,
he believes that whatever

or whoever it was ultimately
did not want to hurt him

or any customers,
at least for now.

I think if there is
something there,

it just kind of
wants us to know,

"Hey, I'm here,
and I do have power."

Do I see it

trying to harm us in any way?

No.

Coming up, an exorcist
battles a demon

for the soul of a young woman.

In the world of the paranormal,

one of the most horrific things
that can happen to a person

is being possessed
by a demonic spirit...

...and if you think
that's a rare occurrence,

think again.

Demonic possession
and the exorcisms that follow,

believe it or not,
are on the rise.

So much so that in 2005
the Vatican set up an exorcism

training course
to deal with the crisis.

For years, one particular
hot spot for exorcisms

has been the Philippines.

In 2006,

the Catholic church became aware
of so many cases of possession

that they opened an office
of exorcism to deal with them.

And it's a good thing they did

because 12 years later
a young woman

would become possessed
by an unknown entity,

and her only hope of survival

lay quite literally
in the hands of an exorcist.

In November 2018,

in a small town
about 97 miles from Manila,

a Filipino woman named Pamela
is brought to Ka Emong,

a religious healer,

because her family
believes her behavior

indicates possession
by an evil spirit.

His first step,
try to communicate

with whatever entity
is inside of her.

The first thing you need
to notice about people

that are unwillingly
becoming possessed,

some of the first signs are very
physical signs of possession.

You can't really see her pupils,
but her eyes look really,

really dark, which is something
that happens to people

where they get
these kind of reptilian

looking eyes
where it just gets black.

You could see it
in the hands.

Her hands looked like
grappling hooks.

The rest of the body seems
quite lackadaisical.

Her expression is out there
someplace else.

She seems to be
in a trance-like state,

but I've seen this before.

This is common.

This is the pregame, so to say.

This is the lead up
to the battle.

As Ka Emong struggles
to break through,

the entity attempts to seize
control of Pamela's body.

You can see that the spirit
doesn't necessarily know

how to operate
this body well or naturally,

or the person
who's in there as well

is pushing back against this,

and so we get
a lot of contorted movements

or difficult movements.

Then Ka Emong
appears to react

as the possessing spirit

pronounces some barely audible
but very disturbing words.

Huh?

But there's no
reasoning with a demon.

Whatever is possessing Pamela

is determined
to take her completely.

Now the battle begins.

Having thrown out the challenge,

the exorcist now uses his hands
as powerful spiritual weapons.

He pushes deeply into her
abdomen.

Aah!

Ah!

Aah!

The things that he's doing
in this video

are actually pretty typical
of the type of exorcisms

that happen in the Philippines

where they're basically shouting
at the demons

to come out of her body.

As he continues he slaps her.

He hits her in certain places
to almost maybe shock her

or to order the spirit out.

- Ano?

It's a fairly common thing
when you see people interacting

with the spirit world,
when your adversary is invisible

your tools can be
invisible as well.

So there are a lot of gestures
that seem to indicate banishment

or cutting or slicing,
and it's just the man's hands.

He's not using any particularly
special tools,

and that really indicates
that this effort

is taking place
on another plane.

Having seemingly exhausted

whatever demon is
in possession of Pamela,

the exorcist instructs
his assistants

to lay her down on the ground.

Then...

Her body is at attention.

Whatever is in it is now aware,

"Okay, I know what you're doing.
You're trying to get rid of me,

and I'm not gonna
make it easy."

Finally,
a crucial breakthrough.

Buenasista is the name
of Pamela's recently

deceased sister,
but the demon could be lying,

pretending to be Pamela's sister
to trick the exorcist.

In any case,
it's a breakthrough.

Ka Emong now has the possessing
spirit's full attention.

But was Ka Emong strong enough
to force the entity,

whether the spirit of Buenasista
or not, out of Pamela?

She's functioning.
Her eyes are open.

She seems to be communicative.
So that's an improvement.

At the end of the exorcism,

you see the girl
almost snap out of it,

as if she is now
in control of her faculties.

She is now the one
in the driver's seat,

and you can tell
that she's tired.

This exorcism has taken
a physical toll on her.

Though physically
and emotionally exhausted,

Pamela seems to finally be
free of the possessing spirit,

but for how long?

It's an interesting thing
that having been possessed once

almost makes it
more likely to happen.

Door has already been opened.

You are already a little bit
existing in two worlds,

and that makes it that much
easier for that to happen again.

To stop a relapse
from happening,

one has to be careful
about the things they do,

the behaviors they undertake

and just be guarded
in a spiritual manner.

But from the moment
they entered the woods,

Patricia instantly
became nervous.

When I was here last time,

we heard all kinds of crap,
including whispers.

My name is Patricia Adams,
and I am the owner of the video.

I'm the one that filmed it.

Making the walk out there,
oh, gosh,

it was just nerve-racking.

I could feel the hair raising
on the back of my neck.

And when they arrived
at the witch's house,

the feeling got worse.

Normally when we film
somewhere that's haunted,

it's a good spirit.

- I don't have any problems.
- Yeah.

Here I feel very uneasy,
not comfortable --Very uncomfortable.

... like, there's something
evil here.Yes.

Like, it's not a good spirit.

Despite their unease
with the situation,

the team persisted.

The group was determined to have
a paranormal encounter

with the witch's spirit.

On her previous visit,

Patricia captured what she
believed to be a photo of her.

There is a picture where we
believe it's her standing there,

which is a woman with real
curly, long curly hair wearing,

like, a long flowing dress
kind of look.

Once I saw that I was like,
"Oh, wow.

"We definitely
caught her on camera.

We got to go back there."

This time,
Patricia wanted to make contact

with the witch,

so she brought
some dowsing rods,

traditionally used to find water
under the earth,

but in the paranormal world
a means of communication.

But before she could even
pull them out of her bag...

Damn.

That's fricking weird.

My dowsing rods just flew
out of my bag.

They flew out of your bag?

They just flew out
of my fricking bag.

I heard them rattling as if
somebody was grabbing at them,

and then they just flew
out of my bag.

There's no way they could
just fall out.

Nothing ever falls out
of this bag ever.

- What the hell?
- Did you find them?

They're right here
on the ground.

It freaked me out a little bit.

I mean, I was thinking,

"Oh, she doesn't like
these dowsing rods."

You know, and yeah, it made me
a little nervous.

That witch is trying
to take your dowsing rods

out of your bag.

Perhaps the entities
that are in this house

don't want to be bothered,

and they don't want
to communicate.

And in order to not be bothered
and to not communicate,

they have to get rid
of the technology

that is used to
harness their energy.

...especially when we go
some place like this.

Regardless, Patricia
and the group pressed on.

She held the dowsing rods
in her hands

and asked a question,

hoping the rods would react
when it reached the answer.

We want to know
how many spirits are with us.

Is there one spirit with us?

Is there two?

Is there three?

Is there four?

Looks like it's trying to say
yes on four.

Is there five?

Oh, my god. There's five.

- Try that again.
- What does that mean?

So the theory is if there
is spirit energy present

they, can manipulate the rods

to give you a binary answer,
yes, no.

You can go through numbers.

You can go through
the alphabet and say,

"Look, if you cross the rods

these corresponds
to different answers."

When it got to five it
finally crossed

so I guess
they got their answer.

There was at least
five spirits in the area.

I was a little surprised.

I was expecting it to just say
one or two but not five.

Is it five?

Oh, my god. There's five.

I usually keep a careful eye
to make sure

that they're not
manipulating them,

and so often
you see people going,

"Oh, I'm getting answers,"
and their hands are shaking.

They're moving.
They're leaning.

It's very difficult to put
any stock in that,

but in this video I kept
a close eye on her hands,

and I don't see them moving.

Patricia was in disbelief.

Could there be more than
the witch's spirit

haunting the area?

- Try that again.
- What does that mean?

That spirit, it said yes
answer there.

That was a yes answer?

How many spirits are with us
right now? Is there one?

If she just did it once,
sure they could've gone,

"Oh, we got an answer.
This is amazing.

Look at all
the information we got."

But she went back and said,
"Let me make sure.

Let me double check this,"
and verification is always good.

As Patricia
counted once again,

the tension mounted.

Four?

Then, as she reached
the number five...

Five.

...suddenly...

Aah!

Marie just got knocked down.

Marie just got knocked down.

My camera went dead
and everything.

I don't know what the hell
is going on.

The team has
apparently suffered an attack.

What was it? What was it?

My first thought was,
"A demon attack.

"We're getting attacked.
We're under attack right now.

We have got to go.
We're not safe here."

But what happened?

Patricia walks us
through the terrifying ordeal.

I hear what sounds like
a grunt.

I knew that it was coming
from that window area,

and I knew nobody
was over there, none of us.

We were all together.

And then, that's when
my sister was thrown.

Dude, I want to know
what that noise was.

I do, too.

There was definitely
a noise off to the side,

and I think that's what gained
everybody's attention.

And when they came back
she was way over there

so we didn't see it,

but she definitely moved
quite a distance

in a very abrupt
period of time.

- Are you okay?
- What was it?

- What was it?
- What the hell?

Oh, my god.
What was that?

I don't know. What was it?

Any time that happens
on a ghost hunt the implication

is that there was
a big enough burst of energy

to disrupt what the person
was trying to achieve,

that connection that
they were really going for.

It's hard to say
what that means.

I think on an obvious
instinctive level

that's bad news.

If something is capable of
pushing you to the ground

like that then who knows
what else it's capable of doing.

It was immediately
clear to the whole team

that the sooner they get
out of this place the better.

Whatever Patty was communicating
with right now did not --

It either didn't like
the dowsing rods

or it didn't like Marie.

Something bad had
to have happened here.

You're right. We were stupid.
We're leaving.

Rattled,
Patricia and the team

quickly gathered
their belongings

and made their way
back to their cars.

Man, it must've
pushed you so --

- You went flying.

My knees hurt worse

These investigators are probably
no longer welcome at this house.

It was pretty scary, actually.

It's all kind of a blur
to all of us right now

because it happened so quickly,

and we were not expecting
it of course.

But when it comes
to ghost attacks,

many believe it could've
been a lot worse.

have definitely

been warned to stay out.

I don't think I'll go
back there.

I'm just very thankful that
no one was severely injured

or anything like that,
and know we know,

you know, just kind of stay away
from that place

because if that happened
what's gonna happen next time?

to see the creature

So one thing about children
is their reactions

in real time.

But what is this thing

that the children
are so afraid of?

The answer could lie in an old
South American myth.

In Argentina,
there's a mythical creature,

a mythical cryptid,
called the Pombero,

and it strikes
a crazy resemblance

to what these kids
saw in that field that day.

The Pombero is
a monster found in the mythology

of the Guarani people
from present-day Paraguay,

Brazil, and Argentina.

The elf-like creature
is described as being short,

stocky and with very hairy
hands and feet,

which it is said,
allow him to sneak up on people.

Local legends and descriptions
describe it very much

like what you see in the video.

If you were to look it up
and pull up a picture

you could almost put the two
of them side by side and go,

"Yes, officer.
That's what I saw."

The Pombero is
mostly mischievous.

Now, I guess it depends
on your judgment of mischievous.

This creature either
can be kind to you

or can be your worst nightmare.

He apparently has an appetite
for all the vices

so if you have,
like, some cigarettes

and, like, a flask lying around,
he's your homie.

He'll bless you.

If not, he'll steal
your livestock.

If they've been told this legend
of this creature,

and it's like the bogeyman
that's said to be

in their own backyard,
and they see this,

you can certainly
understand them running away.

Once you create this local
legend of something

you can't explain
seen coming out of the woods,

it escalates a lot,

and it's gonna get
a lot of people afraid.

It's gonna get a lot of people
wondering what's going on.

The boys all make it
back to their homes safely,

but they have not dared return
to that field

since the day
this footage was shot.

If I were them, I would
certainly keep my eyes open.

You know, this thing
may come back.

Just get out there
and play soccer again,

maybe invite the Pombero
to be your goalie.

I have no idea,
but just get out there.

You can't live your life
scared, kids.
