His last shop, that wonderful mill,
burnt to the ground.

northeast into Yorkshire

to see how a creative fellow dealer

is setting up shop
in a completely new space

at a time when Viki's business
is expanding fast

and she's had to find new premises
of her own.

without being stressed all the time,

I needed somewhere
to do my little videos

and all my stuff for socials.
Because socials,

let's be honest,
are the new shop window.They are.

But I'm looking forward
to meeting Rob, actually.

I had a look at his socials
and he looks -He is a right laugh,

he's great fun and he's got
a very individualistic take

on honestly all of it.

And I think he's got it right.

Climbing 18 metres,

Bingley's Five-Rise Locks
are a local landmark

and the steepest staircase locks
in the country,

a reminder of the town's
industrial history,

with a number of mills
still standing today.

A new addition to the town
is Amazing Finds,

an incredible collection
that spans period furniture
to industrial and retro.

It's all the creation of Rob George.

Sourcing stock is getting
harder and harder.

And what Rob's done here
is the friendly, interesting,

artistic, clever, affordable way

it's a little bit like Viki.

And I spotted a normal little
turned-legged English
late-19th-century stool,

but the top single piece of timber,
and it had a little wave to it,

a little buckle.
This is a really good thing.

Has that had that top put on?
I would say yes.

It's been a chair before, maybe.
No, it's been a stool before,
and they've messed with it.

Because if you look
on the side up here,

you can see how rough it is, right?
Yeah.

The rest of this isn't that rough,
but strangely, it's the same timber.

It's almost got a burr in it.

that you love it, they'll come back.

whose business has literally risen

for a pair of designer Roller lamps

from the 1960s.

There's a flaw
with these later versions
of these lamps,

where they have the shade
pop-riveted on

with two little alloy pop rivets.

And when people move a lamp,
they grab the lamp shade
and move it.

And that's where the weak point is
on these.

But Rob has given me
the sort of price
where it's worth doing.

It's very, very beautiful.
And it's called the Eden Valley.

And I can't ever remember being
in this bit.

And I've been
pretty much everywhere,
but I can't remember being here.

The amount of time it's taken us
to drive on these country roads,

it is in the middle of nowhere.
So it really doesn't surprise me
you've never been here before.

We got to the middle of nowhere
about an hour ago.

Set among the rolling hills
of Cumbria's Eden Valley,

the ancient village of Morland
is home to a church

with a rare tower
built in Saxon times,

and the neighbouring house,
the former vicarage,

also dates back centuries.

Now a Grade-II listed building,

Morland House has been in the hands
of one family since 1828.

These days, it's rented out
for special occasions

by family trustee Frances Yeowart,
the fifth generation of the family.

FRANCES: The house dates back
to Tudor times.

I grew up here with my family.

My father was Vicar of Morland
and there were three of us,

and we had a wonderful time
growing up here.

So the antiques have been
collected over the years.

The house has been handed down
through various generations

and they've come
from Canada, Himalayas,

Ethiopia, Boer War...

you name it, really.
All over the world.

Oh, look.

There's horns and hunting
paraphernalia everywhere,

but it's also mixed in
with an awful lot of pieces

from various military campaigns
that the family
were part of worldwide.

There's bits from everywhere.

the history behind her family.

sort of standout pieces

that haven't been in auctions

in other dealers' hands.

So we want to get down
into the places

where we can get a little bit
of a pop at stuff

and see if we can buy some stuff.

This is the old dairy in here,
and then it's a workshop.

a country house
in the middle of nowhere,

looking for bits and bobs
they've had enough of
and they want to sell.

What a day we've had today
with Frances at Morland's House.

It's just been absolutely amazing.

into areas of this house

that nobody has been in.

You know, you can tell
by the amount of cobwebs

and the depth of cobwebs,
nobody's been in there for 50 years,

and we're getting access
to have a good rake about.

With its famous crooked spire,
the town of Chesterfield

was once also known
for its leather-making industry,

with five tanneries here
in the 16th century.

Complex tanning processes
included smearing the hide
with dog faeces

and generating fermentation
with stale beer

or rotting pieces of hide,

tough and smelly work
which could take up to three years
per leather.

A local landmark
dating back to 1840,

Joseph Clayton and Sons was known
for the quality of leather
produced here

for 178 years
before it finally closed its doors.

Today, the site is owned
by property developers, Seb Perez,

and his son, Seb Jr.

SEB SR: We buy distressed properties

and then we either restore them
for alternative uses

but keeping
the historical side alive,

or if it's not viable,
we'd develop that site
into something else.

In the war days, they made the boots
for the soldiers, all the belts.

This would have been
a hive of activity,

and it must have stunk,

because they would have had skins
laid out on the streets

ready for processing coming in.

just because there's some
really interesting, like,

parts of machinery and old tools
that they used to use

that have been here
for, like, over 60 years.

And this is where the money is made,
if you're clever.

It's quite stinky in here,

But also, I'm in the process
of moving shops.

So actually, I'm in the market
for potentially bigger bits

that I wouldn't normally touch,
but I can use them as props
in the shop,

so that's what I'm going
to look out for.

So in here they did some,
uh, production

like for keyrings, belts,
saddle brackets.

That's quite a cool thing, but...

We need an expert to tell us

They're called press plates.

So these press the patterns
into the leather. Very heavy.

They cost about, to make them,
about £3,000 each.Do they, really?

They're very beautiful.

But you need to change
their environment

to really see the beauty come out.

of architectural salvage
you can find

is something that's been made
for one purpose
and one purpose alone

and reimagine them. That's it.

would have been used
to pressure imprint patterns
on leather,

sometimes adding heat or water
to make the patterning
more permanent.

As far back as
fourth century BC Persia,

the technique was also used
to decorate leather saddles,
armour and clothing.

In this collection,
the larger plates are made of steel,

whilst the smaller pair is copper.

Sold as a complete set,
Drew thinks they could be worth
around £2,700.

It's been a brilliant day.

I just love this job.
We bought some extraordinary things.

Viki's bought some great pieces
as well.

It's a nasty, dirty, icky,
dangerous, smelly, cold, damp site.

It is not nice.

But what we found in there
is something that potentially

is really, really quite beautiful,
useful, different.

That was brilliant. Those panels.

What we found there today
encapsulates everything I like
about business.

I didn't even know they existed.
No, neither did I.

I didn't imagine they'd leave
such an expensive thing there.

because they're a really

This was the butchery.

Upstairs was the shop,
was the retail part of the butchery.

So this, this is some type of lift
which would be used

to move the meats up and down.

It's quite a cool feature.
So I'm going to have to start

to think about what
I'm going to do with this.

Now, these glazed brick walls,

I have to be honest and say,

apart from the square footage
and the location,

these bad boys sold it to me.

Honestly, they are just gorgeous.

Okay, granted,
they're not that gorgeous just now,

but we'll clean them up
and they are just
going to look amazing.

This place needs
quite a bit of work done.

I need to get the tradie guys in.

I need an electrician,
I need a plumber
and a painter and decorator.

But I am beyond excited
to get started.

The trend
over the last 5 to 10 years
in the antiques game

is to be closing your real shops
and going online,

and it is something
that I seem to have swam against,
to be honest,

because I opened up
my real shop five years ago

and I sold online
for 20 years before that.

So there is something
about being a shopkeeper.

It's the interaction with customers.

And you do not get that online.

And that's what's
really important to me.

I could have had a beautiful
front-facing shop,

and I could have had
wonderful window displays.

Instead, I took the basement

that has limited light
when the doors are closed.

And it does have challenges.

But what's going to happen is,
once I get all my items in here

and I get my textiles in here,

it's just going to soften it all up,

and it is going to look amazing.

This space, I can see it now.

There's just a little bit of work
in between to get that,

to achieve what I want to achieve,

but it's going to look amazing.
