But we're gonna show we can take it to 'em.

[Grant] During the mandatory Pit Stop rest period,

teams were transported from Beijing by plane

to the city of Guilin in southern China.

This spectacular landscape

is considered by many to be the most beautiful in China.

Guilin is now the starting point of the final leg

of our race around the world.

Michelle and Jo were the first to check in.

Michelle and Jo, you're team number one.

[scream]

So they'll depart first at 5:07 a.m.

"Welcome to Guilin, China.

Travel by taxi to the Lijiang River

to find your next clue among the traditional fishermen."

[Grant] Cormorants have been used for fishing in Guilin for thousands of years.

Teams will need to search

among these dozens of traditional fishermen

and ask in Mandarin for their next clue.

You have $250 for this leg of the race.

[Jo] Can you please take us to Lijiang River, Yangshuo District?

Okay.

[Michelle] It's a good start to start in first place.

This is the last leg.

You've only got one chance of this and a one-in-three chance of $250,000.

It's pretty good odds, so…

It's meant everything to run with Michelle.

I've learned many different things along the way,

and we've had fun together and it's a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity

that we've got to share, and we'll have that forever now.

[Michelle] This experience has made us closer together as sisters,

and I have learned I need to step back and listen to her opinion sometimes.

It's been a great experience, great journey.

[Paul] What a ride it's been, and I can't wait for the end,

when we are crossing the finish line first.

We'll get to brag to the other teams

that they just got their butts kicked by an accountant and a goofball.

[Steve] At least it'll be before the cops.

The twins have proved consistently

that they're good at getting between destinations,

securing good flights and such.

So that is why we've always felt they are our greatest threats,

that we always have to overtake them at challenges.

[Steve] Time ticked over, 8:30. We've got to put these on.

We had to get dressed up in this haystack cape.

[Jo] Oh, gosh. I definitely think it's becoming more personal now.

Paul is just so serious. Just crack a smile, mate.

I can't let them beat us. It's really eating at me.

[Paul] Yeah, I'm worried I'm gonna slip in, though.

We have to ask each fisherman if he has something to give us.

The paddle's so heavy, Jo.

[Steve] We're neck and neck with the twins.

so they went left and we went right.

[Jo] Great job, Chelle.

Now there's fishermen everywhere,

and we had to ask if they had something to give us in Mandarin.

In this final Detour, teams will go back to school Chinese-style

as they choose between Teach and Learn.

In Teach,

teams must choose a local student and tutor them on ten Aussie words.

Once their student can repeat the ten phrases,

they'll receive their next clue.

In Learn,

teams must learn the same ten phrases in Mandarin

from one of the students.

They'll then need to correctly recite the phrases back to the teacher.

Okay, so Learn.

Taxi!

We need to go to a kindergarten school.

We had a map, so we knew where the school was.

It was far away, but it's all a directions game with the taxis again.

So hopefully we can have some luck on our side.

We need someone that can speak English, though.

We've been underestimated the whole race, and that's fine.

-We like it that way. -We're happy to play it that way.

-This is countryside. -In countryside? Okay.

We've both been caught in the rat race, having kids,

and jobs, and mortgages, and all that sort of stuff.

They've done it hard probably without us. They deserve it as much as we do.

I was trying to find someone that could speak English,

and luckily the lovely police officer could speak a little bit of English.

[Paul] They're always moving around,

so even though you may have checked, say, 25 of them out of 50,

you don't know whether you're checking new ones or the same ones you've asked.

We eventually found the right guy.

We were very happy. Let's get the hell out of here.

Detour. "Teach or Learn"?

[Paul] My instinct is Teach because it sounds the easier to me, but…

We had to get to our next location, which was a kindergarten.

Excuse me. Yangshuo?

[Paul] The first thing we felt we needed to do is find a local

that would actually have an idea of the direction.

Down that way?

-[man speaking] -How far?

I did try to gauge whether we should be walking or driving.

Walk?

[woman in Mandarin]

[Steve] So straight down there.

It became pretty evident that there was no cabs or any form of transportation

going to be along that road,

so we figured that surely it's not gonna be a real long distance.

[Steve] Do you reckon that's what we do?

[Paul] That's what she was saying, wasn't she?

[Steve] Yeah.

[speaking Mandarin]

[Shane] We had to head down to the river.

When we get there, hours of operation were 8:30 till 1700.

They would've been sitting here for three hours.

Yeah, and no sleep.

We were probably only an hour, hour and a half behind at this stage.

-Back in it, mate. -Yep.

[Andrew] Paul and Steve and the twins have had a bit of a rivalry.

They've been butting heads, and we've been in the background,

which has been good for us.

[Shane] A bit of contact with him.

He'd say… and then pull out a little fish.

The first person we saw said, "Yep. Continue this way.

You're going the right way."

We had to go with our feeling that they keep pointing this way,

so surely it's just up the road.

Surely we can catch the twins with our jogs every now and then.

I just hope we haven't overshot it.

[Andrew] Got the clue really quick off the fisherman,

so we thought, "Maybe we've made up time here."

We have the taxi driver who knows the district we need to go to

but doesn't know where the school is.

Not many taxi drivers speak English in this area.

There's that full language barrier. It's really frustrating.

[Steve] The further and further and the longer and longer we kept walking,

the more in your head you're going, "It doesn't feel right."

We could be the ones likely in the most danger if everyone else is in a taxi.

Geez, have we made a catastrophic mistake here?

1.5 hour by bike.

-One and a half hours? -By bike?

[Steve] Of all the times to make a catastrophic mistake,

the last leg is the definite last place you ever want to make it,

and we just did.

Are there any taxis or roads somewhere?

You're thinking, "Oh, no. We've already walked 45 minutes.

We've gone too far.

Can't be an hour and a half away.

When you're in the final leg, it is no guts, no glory.

We just have to keep going.

He was guiding us on our spiritual journey through the Chinese mountains.

[Grant] This traveling market is typical of rural China,

and teams will need all their powers of persuasion

to sell their wares to the passing villagers.

Teams must choose a market stall and spruik these common kitchen gadgets.

Once they've sold ten items,

they can exchange their profits for their next clue.

We haven't seen any of the other teams, so we think we're in front.

We are promo queens.

We sell pieces of paper to people, pretty much.

We can do this for sure.

-[Paul] Do you wanna ask? -[Steve] Yeah, might as well.

We've been walking for about two hours when we found a hotel.

-Where were we? -Can we get a taxi here?

It was an absolute massive relief to be able to call

a rubber-tire savior to get us out of there.

Back on the right track.

We may not be in a bad situation.

We don't know what the situation is or how well we're doing,

but at least we're feeling that we're doing the best we can right now.

We thought we would be pretty good teachers.

The second team member must then correctly match those answers

to receive their next clue.

because I was grabbed by the arm and escorted into the jail myself.

We know each other well. Worked with each other a lot.

I'll go with the girls.

That was easy. I thought the twins straightaway.

They've been with us the longest. We've been helping each other the most.

"Which team would you lie to?"

Right, that's an easy one.

Paul in particular has been throwing a few furphies out there.

The thing is, we do think very much alike. People have said that all the time.

They say, "These are like twins or brothers."

"Which team worked best together?"

We'll go Sticky and Sam.

I might skip to the fifth one. "Which was the unluckiest team?"

I'll say Dane and Adam.

They're a strong team and got knocked out 'cause they sold their shoes.

"Whose relationship do you envy?"

Maybe Sticky and Sam, 'cause they got on well the best.

They'd probably enjoyed themselves so much on the race, nothing was a hassle.

I might change which team worked best together.

Change that one to me and Shane.

Hopefully he's on the same page.

So I thought,

I don't know whether putting ourselves there will upset the apple cart.

I did it pretty quick and then got escorted back to another jail cell.

The first one was easy.

It said, "Who would you give a helping hand?" The twins.

"Who would you lie to?" Paul and Steve.

-[Michelle] Is that the jail? -Yeah, that looks like a jail.

[Jo] The coppers already got here.

[Michelle] We were in shock that they were in first place,

'cause we thought they were behind us, so we were in for the race of our lives.

We thought, it's a twin challenge. We've got this in the bag.

Jo chose to go in first.

It's dark.

The first question is, which team would lend me a helping hand?

The first one would be our alliance.

We always said, "We'd help you, you'd help us."

I'll maybe go Joe and Grace.

"Which was the unluckiest team?"

I put us because of the taxi drivers.

[buzzer blares]

The unluckiest team was Dane and Adam, because they were knocked out so early.

I thought we got there in good time. To see the cops was a big surprise.

It put the pressure on

because we're only gonna be able to catch up through strong performance.

I think I read the questions really fast.

I thought, I'll get the fastest answer and get back so she can do it.

Shane and Andrew are our alliance.

I think we work best together.

"Which team would lie to you?" I'd say the twins.

It's very difficult when we're opposite personalities.

There's a conflict of answering honestly

and answering what I think Steve would guess.

Damn, this could be difficult because Paul and I don't hang out that much.

We just know each other from work.

Best together was Sticky and Sam.

I'd go with them. They were competitive and worked well together. Same mindset.

We do have a bit of an idea,

since we'd been on the race together a lot.

But still, that doesn't compensate for 20 years of working together

or 25 years of being sisters.

This is gonna be totally embarrassing if I don't get it right,

because twins are supposed to think the same.

Well, that's easy.

Trying to sell their shoes. So I'm done.

Sam and Sticky, I'm gonna say, is the relationship we'd envy,

which I think is gonna be a tough one for Steve to pick.

[Paul] I was put into a holding cell,

and Steve was escorted away to try to guess my answers.

I'm in the jail now, so… living the dream.

It was hot,

and I was in a jail cell next to Paul, my favorite friend on the race.

They didn't fight. Me and Jo were at each other's throat the whole time.

We can't stand their guts, so we'd do anything to throw them off.

That question was so difficult. I just said, "Sam and Sticky,"

due to them having a solid friendship with each other with no quarrels.

Question number three… Now, this was a hard one.

Michelle will definitely think that we work well together.

I didn't think to put us as an answer.

Once here, teams will need to drive themselves

to the beautiful Lake McKenzie.

We're getting down to the business end of the race,

so we got out of there pretty quick.

and had such a dream run with it.

Even though we were in this position ahead of them,

we did want them to see through the race and not give up either.

We feel we've been beaten by the best.

We all had equal chances going into this race,

and I respect every one of them,

even though they might think that I'm the most unfriendliest, standoff guy.

No, it has been an honor to race with all of you.

[Steve] Paul really is the polar opposite to me,

and I just feel really privileged to have gotten to know him a hell of a lot better.

I've seen a lot inside Paul, and there's a lot of good.

I am extremely proud of the way I played this race.

I'm proud to have done it with Steve.

It's certainly been a long journey, and what a ride.

I wanna walk out of this race proud that I have played really strong,

with integrity, with honor.

I do my best to be a good person.

At the beginning, all I was trying to do is prove I can run with a backpack.

Definitely very proud of Michelle,

and the places we got to travel to-- so amazing.

[Michelle] It's definitely brought us closer together,

and we know that we're invincible, we can do anything now.

[Shane] Main objective was to have fun, go as far as we could along the race

and do as many challenges and see as many countries as we could.
