Driving in the late model

division, Kylie's been

dominating the weekend

wannabe's more than any

other amateur in years.

a big jump from

dirt to asphalt.

Although Kylie's night last

night was a heck of a lot

better than papa Al's preseason

last month.

Kylie may be comin' up just as

Papa is goin' down.

After one of the most checkered

careers in sports, Hall of

Famer Al Shines is just not

winning that many races.

As a matter of fact, team owner

Robin Cates may just wanna give

him a trophy for the costliest

driver on Cates Racing.

Three wrecks in three months.

>> Either that or a one-way

ticket up to Charlotte

so Al can shop for a new ride.

>> Ooh.

[both laughing]

>> Meanwhile, tearin' up the

racin' world is Kid Walker.

Last night, Kid Walker

dominated in Atlanta.

The phenom seems to be drivin'

right into the big leagues.

fine-tuned racing tactics,

>> Walker and Shines are comin'

up on 72 Cooper,

who is a lap down

after his contact with the wall.

>> Oh, Cooper's bumper is

fallin' off on the track.

>> Kid look for some debris,

it's on a turn comin' up.

>> What turn?

We're swerving.

>> Kylie, watch your fender

on the corner, Kylie.

>> Say it again.

>> Turn three, kid, turn three.

>> Whoa!

[tires screeching]

>> Oh!

Shines ran over some of that

debris.

She's slowin' with some

kinda damage.

>> Damn it.

>> The fender of 72 must've

gotten up into an oil line,

that windshield is just covered

in grease.

>> I have no idea how she's

drivin' that race car.

Shows a lot of maturity

on Shines part.

>> You gotta know that she's got

a heartache right now, knowing

that she was the car to beat.

>> Well, she's gonna be back.

[crowd groans]

>> Checkered flag, here we go.

>> You got lucky this time, Kid.

>> Kid Walker for the first

place...

>> Kyl.

>> Uh-- Ha!

>> My wrist.

>> It was my fault.

>> I-I-I put a new oil line in

at the last minute,

and didn't get the shield

to protect it back on.

I'm tired of us being angry

at each other all the time.

up all these years, now it's

still cut it.

[engine starts cold]

>> Well, here it is, race fans,

a very unusual challenge match,

not on any schedule but with

more interest than many of the

cup finals.

It's Shines versus Shines versus

Walker, battling it out for a

place at the big show.

Winner gets to ride in the Robin

Cates racing team, losers go

home and try again next

preseason.

>> Robin Cates has generously

So I think today it's gonna be

really interesting.

But other than that, let's be

honest, the sun is shining, the

stands are packed and this is

the dream, what more could you

ask for, you know?

I had to see this one, I've

worked too damn hard to watch

this from the stands.

[laughing]

>> Will the drivers please take

their positions on the track.

[engines roaring]

Now this is somethin' we don't

see every day.

A standin' start.

>> Three race cars on a half

mile track.

>> Shines senior has been on the

sidelines since his last

crack-up.

>> And Shines junior has had

a few chances to beat

Kid Walker but so far her cup

has come up empty.

>> Now Kid will most likely have

an advantage over Shines and

Shines in this portion

of the race track.

>> Well, at Shines age, my three

legged golden retriever has an

advantage over him on foot.

>> Ladies and gentlemen, please

[cars starting, engines roar]

>> And they're off.

[tires squealing]

>> Walker gets the drop on

Shines and Shines, but Kylie

Shines is not gonna give up the

real estate that easily.

>> She looks to the outside,

tryin' to move to the front but

Walker has got the preferred

line, they're door to door as

they move into turn three.

>> What I hear, there must

be a lot of animosity between

the Kid and Kylie.

>> I heard that, and they both

want that Cates ride really bad.

>> I don't think so, Kylie.

>> Kylie is focused and on her

game but she can't seem to get

around Kid.

>> All this is happening at

speeds faster than we ever see

out here.

Three racers with the track

all to themselves.

>> Al's got the best seat

in the house.

It looks like he's just sittin'

back to watch Kylie and Kid

run each other over the track.

>> Al's not gonna make

a move on us.

>> No, Al's always comfortable

in third, for a while.

>> Smooth and patient,

right Crash?

>> Al's wanting you to go after

Kid so you two wear

yourselves out.

>> And comin' round the fourth

turn we have Walker, Shines

and Shines again.

>> We're now at lap 50 and

Walker is still in the lead,

followed by Kylie Shines

with Al Shines in third.

>> Protect the bottom there,

he wants you on the inside.

>> Kid keeps tryin' to pull out

in front but no matter where

he goes, she's right there.

>> Nope.

>> She's in there.

She's in there.

>> And man, almighty she's a

good little driver.

>> She's takin' everything he's

throwin' her way, she's still

right on his tail.

>> Let's see how Kid likes

this bumper to bumper play.

>> Steady Andy,

running my own race.

>> Kylie seems to have found

a new style of drivin'

all of a sudden.

>> She's a quick learner

all right, patient,

more focused.

>> I know.

What will Walker do with this?

He can't seem to shake her.

>> I've had enough of these

games.

She wants to play like this,

I'm gonna show her how the

big boys play.

>> Keep hittin' your mark.

She wants to ride on your tail

like that, then you brake check

her and pull away fast.

>> Okay, which turn?

Turn two, three or four?

>> Turn two, turn two.

>> They're coming into the

straightaway and Shines is

drafting while pressing Walker

and it looks like she's gonna

try and pass and take the lead.

>> Brake check.

>> Ooh, Walker's brake checking,

trying to keep Kylie.

[tires squealing]

Walker's car is all outta steam.

[metal crunching]

>> Whoo, look out,

the car is into the wall.

[crowd moans]

>> Whoa.

Is he okay?

>> Walker still has not dropped

his window net.

>> Oh, man.

>> Is he okay?

Is Kid out?

[siren sounding]

>> Ladies and gentlemen,

number 41, Kid Walker has gone

into the wall.

Please remain patient while the

emergency crews do their work.

>> Is Kid out?

>> I can't see 'em.

They, they still haven't gotten

to him yet.

Wait.

I see him.

Yeah, he's walkin' away.

He's okay.

>> Kylie Shines and Al Shines

have cleared Walker but he

is definitely out of this race.

We've got a yellow flag.

And here comes the pace car for

Shines and Shines, as Walker

walks away from his car,

good news.

The crowd gives the Kid

a big hand.

I'm not worried about the Kid,

there's gonna be a sequel

in that good ol' boys future.

They're pushin' Walker's car off

the track and now it truly is

a race of the generations.

>> Well, it's the youth over

experience, we've seen so little

of Al Shines this season but

I think everybody at this track

knows what he's capable of.

>> That's right, he certainly

has more wins under his belt

than Walker and Shines and the

rest of the Cates team combined.

>> But we've seen enough of

Kylie Shines to know,

she isn't afraid of a fight.

>> It's just you and Al now.

>> And Al Shines has pulled up

next to Kylie.

>> That's my dad.

What do you think, Crash?

>> Why, do you want a cup of tea

or somethin'?

Al's not gonna just

let you win.

He's gonna make you beat him.

>> And it looks like they're

gettin' the green flag, yes,

they are getting the green flag.

>> Pace car has moved

off the track.

>> Go, go!

>> And Shines and Shines are

still open long like they're

out for a Sunday drive.

>> It's a family affair.

>> What is goin' on down there?

They've got one big wide open

track in front of 'em and

neither one is makin'

the first move.

[crowd roars]

>> Uh, here they go.

>> Focus.

Trust your car, hit your marks,

run your line.

>> Okay, baby girl,

show me what you got.

>> These speeds are never

achieved but with only two cars

on the track, they're goin'

all out.

>> Got anything left,

use it now, Kylie.

>> Holdin' it steady

through the corners.

I'll get my chance.

>> Push it hard now, in the

groove, in the groove.

[engine revs]

>> Kylie buries the throttle.

Whoo, it just doesn't get any

better than this.

>> But oh, Kylie's makin' a bold

move, comin' outta turn two.

>> All right, let's see it!

>> Fake fast on the inside Al,

and then go high

and around her.

>> He's makin' his move.

>> On the inside, I got 'em.

>> Now Al, go high, go, go.

>> He's waitin' for it,

wants to go up around.

>> I see him.

>> Show her your fender up top.

>> Oh, and Kylie is blockin'

every move that Al Shines makes.

She's out drivin' her ol' man.

>> Yes, good drivin',

>> One more lap Al,

give it all you got.

>> I am giving it all I got.

>> He's pushing the car,

Nice and smooth.
