How have you started the week?

Did you have a wedding this weekend?

We had a workshop, we had a workshop

in Madrid.

The truth is that although we are a

little behind, you know that this workshop thing

leaves us a little exhausted, but we are

really happy because the feedback we got was

really positive.

A very, very interesting group was formed, a

very open group, we were from all over

Spain, from the north, from the south and

even from Latin America.

So, I just want to thank not only

all the people from Latin America who came,

but also the rest, because a super interesting

breeding ground was formed.

In today's video I am not going to

talk to you about any workshop at the

moment, but I would like to share with

you the results I obtained last year in

the international competition of Fearless Photographers.

I don't want to talk about the results,

you know that I don't get into those

topics, but I would like to share with

you the 10 images that were awarded or

that I received the award and, in short,

I would like to share with you not

the technical aspect of how they were shot,

the diaphragm, the speed, the ISO and all

those things so visceral or so technical, but

I would like to share with you the

human factor that is hidden behind each of

those photos.

Because the truth is that, as you are

going to see now, although they follow some

patterns and were shot in a certain way

and with a vision and all these things,

you have to understand that behind all that

is hidden, in many cases, an over-effort

or an adventure behind them or even sometimes

a stroke of luck, why not call it

that, right?

And if we talk about a stroke of

luck or adventure, we should start by talking

about this photo, because it is the result

of that, right?

It is the result of going to France

to photograph a wedding with one of my

favorite photographers to learn, to know how he

shot, how he moved and how he related

to his clients.

And well, as I say, I went to

Chamonix, it is a little town in the

heart of the French Alps and there we

were taking the photo, taking the wedding of

that couple, so good.

And I just remember that the wedding was

over and I saw that Frank was talking

to them in French and suddenly when we

were going to the hotel I asked him,

well, what did you talk about?

He says that tomorrow we have a post

-wedding.

I say, what?

That tomorrow we have a post-wedding?

He says, yes, tomorrow at 12 we have

a post-wedding.

And I say, Frank, you know I have

a plane at 4 in the afternoon, right?

And he says, yes, I hope to arrive

and if we don't arrive, if you don't

arrive on time, you'll stay to sleep.

I say, man, I would be interested in

coming back today and not having to pay

for a second ticket, right?

And Frank tells me, no, don't worry, it

will be a very, very short session.

And the truth is that it was short

because it lasted an hour, but it was

really intense.

And I remember that it was one of

those experiences that I think it will take

time to forget, right?

How we got on a cable car to

one of the glaciers in the Alps and

we photographed this image among them, right?

We would be like a lot, as I

say, an hour.

It took me time for 7 or 8

images, but the experience was unique.

It was unique and unrepeatable.

It was also a bit unforgettable the way

we returned to Lyon to catch my plane.

Because I remember that we were going with

a car, I think it was a Renault.

I don't remember what model, but it was

super old, from the year of the Polka.

And literally almost the car made trumps when

we grabbed the curves.

And I remember that Frank took me to

the airport.

From one jump I arrived at the check

-in and from another jump I arrived at

the plane.

And I remember that I entered the plane

and the doors were closed.

I had never arrived with such little time

to a plane, so it was an adventure,

right?

Now, of course, seen from a perspective, I

wouldn't have minded losing it for taking pictures

like this, right?

Because they are photos that have stayed forever

in my portfolio, right?

And that will stay for life.

And thanks to this photo and others, I

have managed to hire weddings and all these

stories, right?

But well, that will be another story.

The next photo that I want to tell

you, or the next photos, because I would

like to put them together in a block

of two.

Because I'm talking about this and this photo.

They bring me great, great memories.

Mainly because they were taken, they were captured,

sorry, in a year in which I came

to think, to think until I was going

to lose my profession as a wedding photographer.

You already know what happened in 2020.

In 2020, not only for me, but for

many colleagues, it was possibly one of the

worst years of our professional career.

I could not enjoy our profession as a

wedding photographer, because we did not have weddings.

But I remember that in one of those,

in the middle of summer, Erika told me

that, hey, why don't we take some pictures

with a couple in a place like this,

right?

I was talking about the Red Wall.

Said and done, I say, when?

She says, as soon as possible, right?

We are going to go out, we are

going to enjoy a little, we are going

to have a good time.

And the mission was that.

Have a good time, remember how beautiful it

was to shoot a couple in an incredible

place.

We just needed the couple.

I got the phone, well, before that, I

thought, who is so crazy to tell me

yes, from one week to the next?

Said and done, I talked to Luna, I

called Luna and Manu, a couple from 2020,

and I told them, guys, are you excited?

And they told us, when?

And I said, next week, right?

And they said, let's go there.

And that's it, right?

It was really interesting to live again, to

enjoy this profession, which for me I think

is the best in the world.

That's why I do this, right?

So, incredible, right?

Now I would like to show you three

images that, although they are totally different, apparently

one of the others, I wrap them or

put them together, these three together, I'm talking

about this one, this one and this one.

Although each of them was taken in a

different year, they all have something in common.

They were captured inside a car or outside

a car?

What does it mean, first of all?

As a rule, I always ask my partners

that I like to be close to them.

From the first moment that the bride leaves

from her hotel or from her home to

the ceremony, I want to be with her,

because things always happen.

And that's what I always propose.

And even later, when they leave for the

ceremony, for the couple, ceremony for the report

of exteriors, for the hacienda, for the farm,

I also ask you to please be with

them, because moments out of the ordinary are

always captured.

And besides, those photos are almost always transition

photos.

You already know what transition photos are, if

you don't take a look at it, because

I created a video just dedicated to it.

With which, that type of wedding, those types

of photos follow some patterns, and notice that

it is not a coincidence that out of

ten awarded photos, three are in a vehicle.

We are talking about 30% of the

total, and that's because I follow some patterns.

Just a moment, just to tell you that

now that this image that I show you

now comes to my mind, it's the moment

when the bride arrives, the church and all

this, but this image was also captured in

one of the weddings that I photographed with

Frank.

Frank opened his doors to me in honor

of his weddings, and that helped me for

many things.

I tell you this because the next chapter

that I'm going to create is about this,

because I think it's very interesting, but I

don't want to make a spoiler and let

the next chapter put me with it.

So the next image I want to share

with you is this one, and also believe

me, it really brings me very, very good

memories.

We are talking about March 2021, Colombia, Cartagena

de Indias, Venezuelan couple who got married there,

and the first thing that comes to my

mind is heat.

And the second thing that comes to my

mind is a couple who, if I had

asked them, if they had jumped off a

cliff, they would have done it.

It's one of those stories, or it's one

of those couples who contacts me for a

month and a half, and tells me that

if I have availability for the end of

March, and I tell her, and I remember

that I told her, I don't have availability,

but you know I'm Spanish.

And she tells me in the email, obviously

I know who you are, Victor.

Are you free or not?

And it's not like she says, yes, of

course I'm free.

And the photo is the result of the

effort, not only mine, but also of the

couple, because I assure you that one of

those days of heat, it was hell.

Both the couple and I were completely soaked.

And it comes from the over-effort again

of waiting, waiting, waiting, waiting, until finally the

whole photo was perfectly framed, everything perfectly in

place.

From the couple, obviously, the boyfriend in the

foreground, the girl on the right, and the

third girl on the left.

It made the image come out round, come

out perfect.

All these images that I have shown you

have more or less in common that, a

bit of over-effort, adventure, luck, but this

image is the same.

And it is that this image was captured

back in 2019, when, why not say it,

everything came out perfectly.

That year was one of my best years,

and this wedding in which I captured this

image was one of those weddings that, if

you ask me which is one of my

five favorite weddings throughout history, I would say

that one of them is this one, that

of Gaby and Ed.

And just as an anecdote, I remember that

it was one of those weddings in which,

from the beginning, everything is coming out perfectly,

despite the demand of the couple, of the

planner, of everything that surrounded it, and despite

the fact that, in the beginning, it was

not easy to connect with the guests, to

connect with the couple, but you know when,

at some point, magic comes out and everything

starts to work perfectly with everyone, and the

demand becomes something wonderful, in which the best

of you comes out in photos like this

one, like the one I'm describing, or like

the one that was the fruit, or like,

well, the fucking image, right?

I'm complicating my life.

And how, in the end, I remember that,

of the maximum demand of everything, in the

end I remember ending up completely destroyed, getting

to bed and needing almost two hours to

be able to sleep.

I mean, even though I was completely destroyed,

even though I had worked almost 14 hours,

I couldn't sleep from the excitement.

And that's what happened with this wedding, where

I captured this image.

I mean, in the wedding of Ed and

Luis, something similar happened, right?

It was hard, or not easy, to get

in, not only the couple, but the guests.

I don't know how, or when, or why,

a snap of a finger, and everything turns

into glory, into something totally different, from not

getting hooked, from not going deep into the

wedding, to the magic coming out, and having

all the guests eating out of their hands,

and the couple trusting you blindly.

And that's why this photo came out, like

other very good ones, right?

But why does this photo work?

One, maybe it's a bit classist to say

that the couple, or the two guys, enter

into what is understood as the aesthetic canons

of beauty, right?

Both, Luis and Eric, or they were, or

they are, well, they are still, of course,

two guys with, I mean, really handsome, right?

With very marked masculine features, and that repetition,

not only of how they dress, but that

mere repetition of boy, boy, makes it really

unique and special.

What do I mean by this?

That normally we are, or our subconscious, is

used to seeing couples of boy, girl.

The moment we leave the context and show

two guys, it's a repetition, right?

It's not only a repetition of little birds,

of suits, or of smokeys, but the repetition

of two guys in which the features of

one and the other are practically similar, right?

Why did I cut, or why did I

remove eyes?

Because I added superfluous information that didn't matter,

that wasn't necessary.

The important thing was the rest, right?

I mean, the information of the eyes, in

this case, was subtracted instead of added.

That's why I cut, okay?

And let's go with the last image, with

this image, and I'd like to comment something,

right?

We always say this, all weddings, and I'm

sorry if I'm bittering someone with this, all

weddings, gentlemen, are the same.

I don't care if they're religious, civil, Christian,

Jewish, Indian, whatever, right?

All weddings are the same.

But, thank God, all human beings are different.

What does this mean?

In that church, I assure you, we've shot

100 weddings, at least.

It's a local church, in Zaragoza.

In the farm they later celebrated, how many

have we photographed?

Fifty or a hundred, at least, right?

But what happens?

The couples are always different, and this couple,

both Yasmina and Diego, are unique.

They celebrated it, and the attitude was unique.

That's what's going to make us different.

Even if we're in a cliff in Scotland,

even if we're in a farm, an incredible

farm in I don't know what part of

the world, if the couple doesn't respond, if

the couple doesn't have an attitude, okay, we'll

take pictures, but they won't have that empathy,

that strength, that energy, that at least Erika

and I need in our pictures.

Diego and Yasmina gave it to us, and

that was the result, well, this picture was

the result, among many others, of what they

exteriorized.

these have been, the ten pictures I wanted

to share with you.

That human factor, that little story of Grandpa

Cebolleta, who hides behind each one of them.
