So I'm going to use off-camera flash

in a way perhaps you haven't seen before.

Many of us will actually see or use

off-camera flash in a way perhaps where

we're outdoors, we're underexposed in the sky and

then we add the flash in.

We arguably may even use off-camera flash

at a reception venue or something like that.

In this case I want to show you

how to use off-camera flash in a

way where you wouldn't expect.

Now Melissa's right behind that wall, she's pointing

a speed light on the opposing side of

the wall.

It's going to ricochet off that wall back

on the guys and we'll get a really

cool look.

Now because I got a reflection off the

marble, the mantelpiece there, I thought wouldn't it

be cool to actually do that for off

-camera flash as well.

Now first of all I'll just take a

shot of them with no reflection and then

with the reflection.

So let's do this.

I've actually changed my exposure here.

Now it's at 250 speed, 2.8, 1600

ISO, daylight white balance and then what I've

done here is I have put it on

a 16 by 9 ratio.

Alright guys, snuggling to each other, feel that

shot, gorgeous, beautiful.

Let's have a look.

Yeah that beautiful quality of light, I love

it.

It's awesome because it's bouncing off them creating

that beautiful dramatic shadow and now I'm going

to lower my camera angle and get a

really nice reflection.

I might use the square, the square side

here.

I want to see if I can get

that hand, in fact what I'll get you

to do guys, both of you drop your

hands.

That's it, drop the hand right down mate

where I can't see it.

So your left hand, drop it right down

where I can't see it.

So there you go, cool, beautiful guys.

Okay turn your face into hers mate, beautiful.

Turn your face right into hers, good.

Chin up a bit both of you, gorgeous.

Snuggle into each other, you're loving each other,

that's gorgeous, hold it.

Beautiful, let's have a look.

I love that, isn't that beautiful?

You would not expect that that was just

one speed light right behind and perhaps why

don't we just go over there so you

guys can see what I've just done here.

So as you can see Melissa's just a

little casual and cool, hands on the hip,

she just put, pointing the flash to the

wall.

If she had long hair, she would do

a hair toss and check her nails of

course.

But it's actually not rocket science, what we're

doing is we're actually noticing that the speed

light is not the light source, this wall

becomes a light source.

Now it's actually a big light source, soft

beautiful light as you can see in the

photograph creating this beautiful soft shadow and I

cropped with a one by one ratio, square

crop ratio to give us a beautiful reflection

and yet another way that we can use

off-camera flash.

So practice all these lighting conditions, they will

serve you very well.

Don't be intimidated guys, any light source will

do.
