All language subtitles for Editing tutorial - January 10th 2021

It is 2021, it is.

First, I gotta I have to apologize, I

have to apologize for I guess my lack

of.

content it's been December was chaos with all

the kids home for school.

Some you know work stuff I had.

We have to put with put our dog

down right before Christmas.

Like 16 years.

Anyway, it's I know it is just essentially

when it comes up to its excuses, but

I just I want to apologize, I gotta

say thanks to you guys for sticking with

me here.

I'm transitioning from a different editor for my

videos I have some content from a behind

the scenes video that I need to get

edited and get up here but anyway guys

I do appreciate it, I do want to

thank those who.

You know, are still here are still putting

their trust in this.

I do promise that I'm going to.

be better at more things so today i'm

going to do just a quick editing I

know i've been asked.

Through some instagram messages and emails and private

messages to do more editing stuff I posted

a photo, the other day on instagram of

a couple of people who was you were

in Venice and.

i've been asked about editing for that so

i'm going to edit three pictures here go

through my again my process with editing what

I was looking for, as I was shooting

and how i'm editing it now so.

Anyway, again guys here we go again I

truly appreciate everything and so let's get started

here alright so i'm going to share my

screen here.

You just start by doing this share screen

and here we are so.

let's start with this one, so this was

the one that.

I recently posted, so this is the raw

file, as you can see, we were shooting

it was crazy I it's funny.

I miss crowds I crowds drove me crazy

when I could be in them, and now

that we can't be in them I miss

them so.

there's a bit of nostalgia in this this

photo for me being able to travel to

a place that I absolutely love and to

be in crowds that I took for granted.

And now I wish I could go back

and be in the chaos anyway, so you

can see, there is light coming from right

here, so it was just before sunset the

light was coming through the buildings here.

Down the canal and we noticed that I

noticed it as we were walking and I

thought how neat would it be to have

them stand there face the light.

With the chaos and crowds that were behind

them, so you can see the exposures pretty

much for this.

beam of light right here, you can actually

see it hitting this lady's face kind of

the top of this gentleman's hat come right

in here.

This guy's head and into here, so I

kind of placed them right in that line

of light so when we edit so we're

going to go with Rome.

we're going to go black steep and we're

going to go shadow screen, so you can

see how this pretty much just crushes everything

it's this part right here really hasn't changed,

but everything's quite dark so we're just going

to bump this up a bit.

And we're going to use the brush tool,

so I know in previous videos i've talked

about how I use this to emphasize what

was already there, what was in the image

what I was looking for when I captured

it, so I always go you'll see negative

contrast positive shadow, so I just kind of

pop in just a bit of light in

here okay and just.

down.

And then i'll just add one more brush

and i'll bring it bigger just to mimic

the beam of light coming in this way

so just right here, you can see already

what that does.

Now, one of the things I noticed with

this shot is.

This gentleman's.

bald head like mine, so it is definitely

a distraction visually, so I would take this

and.

bring down the highlight bring down this just

a little.

Just so it's not as.

prominent your eye doesn't go there, and it

really is going to go, as we know,

your eyes going to focus on the brightest

part of the image, and if you have

this competing bright spot right here bald head

you're going to get distracted so just bringing

that down just a little.

All right.

From there, just adjusting.

There so raw photo final image, so you

can see, again nothing's really like.

The concept, the focus has always been even

in the raw photo is this but just

ever so slightly, you know, adding the preset

play with the color temperature a little adding

some contrast and then just brushing in just

a bit of extra light here and taking

out the extra light here really focuses your

attention now.

Primarily right on the couple and the chaos.

Alright, so let's move on to.

favorite always Iceland we're under the waterfall slander

floss.

it's been there, you know the light comes

quite like very harsh from here into the

waterfall and then placing a behind the waterfall.

diffuses the light quite a bit also there's

not a lot of crowd back here, as

you can see, because it's quite wet so

using the.

fall of water to basically diffuse any amount

of light can already give us that line

of light, you can see, all the way

down here okay so again coming in here

Rome black steep and shadow screen.

And then really just dropping the exposure and

adding contrast okay so already we're getting some

separation a nice definite line of light here

Okay, but again, using the brush tool.

Going negative contrast.

Positive shadow and using it as you were

would be naturally bringing in the light here

okay so again, we know the lights coming

from this way, so to highlight just right

here you're gonna it's gonna look fake, so

if we can brush and light from the

right side.

You can see all that just as just

a bit again little more pop here and

then coming on and adjusting highlights.

In contrast.

You can see, as we play with the

shadow that line of light right on our

really doesn't change, you can see the separation

there for highlight to shadow.

And one thing that i've been doing quite

a bit lately is probably within the last

month or so is using this texture slider

so what i've been doing is.

Coming over here, and you can see, as

we zoom in what it does so it

softens it's almost like a overall softening to

the image what gives it.

What would you call it almost like a

theory, like a softer more romantic thing we

obviously don't want to go like gauzy and

blur and like blur out everything so i've

been finding for myself i've been anywhere between.

Negative 25 to negative 40 just to give

the skin smoother more glowy effect, I found

that really helps, especially as we get into

like close shots just to smooth the skin

out give it a little soft edge, so

the edges aren't as harsh gives it definitely

more romantic feel.

So yeah probably right over there so you're

raw.

To your edit again always looking for where

the lights coming from exposing for the light,

you can see that again this her face

here, the side of her arm her hands

and down her dress really doesn't change much

in the final edit.

Everything else all we've done is darken the

surrounding to give it that much more drama

much more effect and separation between the background

and the highlights and the shadow so again

you're raw.

And your final.

Okay, so again sidelight you know coming from

here, this time that you can see it,

you can see it lining the back here

you get nice dramatic light here with dark

background okay it's the same idea for a

lot of the images that I shoot is.

so looking for whenever you're shooting.

You know, placing your couple with dramatic light

here against the dark background okay so we're

going to again we're going to go in

here Rome.

Black steep and shadow screen.

You can see just that itself, you know

really we've kept the same highlight here, but

we just added some drama and separation between

the highlight in the dark background okay so

we're going to again take that brush.

going to come in here.

we're just going to paint in just a

bit of light into here.

Just to give it some more detail, just

to brighten up in here his face a

little okay.

Again, put the exposure a little highlights.

Add some contrast.

And then we'll add or take away some

of that texture to the skin just to

give it a little softer feel.

And again, that would be the edit so

as you can see, you can see the

darkness was there, the highlight was here Okay,

we know going in that when we go

to edit this photo, this is going to

get dark.

This is going to stay pretty much exactly

the same, so what we're doing is we're

exposing our camera and really focusing on the

highlight and what we want.

The viewers I where we want the viewers

I to go, do we want the viewers

I to go, you know all back in

here, or do we want the viewers I

to go right where the couple is.

Do we want the viewers I to go

back in here and the pathway and all

here, or do we want the viewers I

to go right to here, so we focus

in on these lines of sidelight okay these.

Beautiful separation highlights to shadow okay highlights to

shadow what that does is it gives that

drama that.

emotion the mood that everyone talks about when

you can start to really focus in, you

can see the light here focus in on.

Where the lights hitting your couple and what

it's doing in relation to the backdrop okay

dark backdrop brighter couple creates drama and emotion.

Between your couple.

And it's in their environment.

So guys, I hope that I know it

was quick, I know it was about a

15 minute quick edit I just wanted to

go in, I wanted to show you guys

some more editing things if there's you know.

I have other things I can edit you

know I always want you guys to let

me know.

What you'd like to see in editing I

decided to edit those ones, just because the

most recent one, the image from Venice I

had probably a handful of people asked me

how it was edited what the raw look

like.

So I thought I'd take the opportunity to

edit that and then edit a few others

with the similar light.

Again i'm working going to be working with

the new editor I have some behind the

scenes stuff and I do I truly appreciate

you guys being here it's been.

it's been a crazy month, I think, for

everyone it's you know politics aside and what's

going on in the States, you know or

what's going on wherever you are with coven

you know i'm hoping for everyone that 2021

looks better.

Business wise, I know, for me, I am

starting to get you know more people seem

to be more excited, you know the couples

that were postponing from last year to this

year definitely see more there's a light at

the end of the tunnel.

I think a lot of people are feeling

so yeah but again that's we could go

on for hours about the politics of everything

that's going on, but.

I just want to thank all of you,

I want to thank all of you for

being here for putting your trust in me

and for staying here I like I said

i'm going to get more stuff out to

you guys.

But I also want you know I want

to know what you guys want to see

I want to I know the connection and

how I work with that that's the video

that i'm working on.

But I want to know what else you

The sidelight against the dark backdrop so again
