how we get to this image.

It is one of my favorites
of this year, 2019.

I will show you more videos

the wedding or... the entire
elopement / the getaway

of these two guys.

But...

In this video in particular,
we will talk about the process

to reach this image.

Many times we believe
they are images that

come naturally and organically,

just one click and that's it.

But there is always a process behind

and you go cleaning
and adjusting

until you reach these images.

Personally, these images are
the ones that give me peace,

I make myself feel special,

and that my process
and my instinct as a photographer

has strength.

So, ok.

I will explain the idea
of this wedding... photo, I mean.

To achieve this image
-as you can see here-

I did...

It took me 84 photos / shots

to get to this idea.

Here is the evolution of this image...

These are camera files, as is.

The whole session
was with the lens 35mm 1.8,

which is an economical
and very powerful lens.

I also have the 1.4
but it is heavy.

If you want to take it
to destination weddings

and travel a little lighter

I highly recommend this lens.

So, my idea here,
as you can see,

was to align the car line
with the horizon.

I am very flat in my photos.

That gives me a lot of peace.
I always try to find that.

We just started playing
to see the options they had.

Here you can see me
in the reflection.

That's the bad thing about
working with reflective objects.

Here I was just causing them.

I liked the idea.

I still wasn't sure whether
to take a few steps back or squat.

To incorporate or not
the power lines.

That can be a distraction.

But as you can see,
if I squat, my reflection disappears.

So, that's good.

And here I found the angle
and I'm not there anymore.

You have to be aware
of the reflexes, always.

Here I am not so sure
of what am I doing.

I just like the composition.

Remember, for me
the composition is like...

I get thrilled,

and then I try
to start creating.

These guys are just
hanging out...

I say:
"Interact with each other",

"talk to each other"

"just chat...".

In this case
Sisy, my wife, came with me,

and she told me:
"have Andrea grab her hat".

So, she grabbed her hat
and we were on that.

All these are just an attempt
to reach these photos.

When she starts turning
to the left side of the screen

the image begins to be
a little stronger.

We also tried this with him,

it kind of works
but not so much.

They are laughing.

I'm still not so sure
of the intonation of this photo.

If it's going to be
mysterious or funny...

But I mostly try to have,
in the same image,

to have more than
one layer of emotions.

The laughter part
and the emotional part.

Here we have the idea
of throwing the hat.

Here I go.

My wedding gift was this hat.

Unfortunately...
as we bought it in a hurry,

the hat didn't fit him.

Anyway, we wanted to
use it somehow

'cause it has personality,

and we can play with it,

and, if the hat was damaged
it was not a big deal,

he was not going
to use it anyway.

So, this was an
improvised solution, like:

"You haven't worn the
hat that I gave you, man."

The day before the wedding

we bought a second hat,
that did fit him.

We went to the store,
he tried the hat on

and said
"this is f*cking amazing".

So, we had two hats.

If we had only one hat, maybe
this photo would not have happened.

So, we tried
to throw the hat.

I told him:
"Just look forward,

being cool,

throwing the hat."

The idea was
that the hat hit the camera.

But it's hard to hit
something you're not seeing.

Here is Roberto checking.

"Ok, there you are"
"I will hit the camera"

"This is the right angle".

And no, it just didn't work.

So, I said: "You know what?,
look straight to the camera...

...and throw me the hat."

This is when
the magic happened.

I'm still doubting whether to
leave it in black and white or color.

I always have that doubt
in the iconic photos,

-those photos that I enjoy-

I always have that doubt.

This was the final result.

So, that's the interesting part,

when...

when you improvise, play
and when the elements are there.

But again, my process is:

The first thing I did
was line up the car

with my horizon.

Then, I disappeared my reflection.

And then I decided whether
to put the light wires or not.

In this case, as this was a

kind of rebel, urban,
desert session,

I didn't think it necessary
to eliminate the wires.

So, I made the decision

to take two steps back
and add the wires into the frame.

It is all about a process

of adding or removing elements.

Blessed hat that didn't fit him

and we used it to throw it
and enjoy with that element

(because f*cking hats,
are not cheap at all).

Honor your process, guys.

As I said, 84 images

to achieve just one photo.

We have to go slowly.

We have to...

...to enjoy the process.

Even if we don't know
the final result,

but, if you already
commit to an image

-while creating it-

you have to improve that image

to try to reach the limit

or the maximum potential

of this or any of the images.

Don't be afraid to take the time

to make that photo
that you think will be worth it.

For me, this photo was worth it.
