Hello friends, how are you?
How is everything going?
Any special plan for this weekend?
Do you have a wedding?
Maybe yes, maybe not, who knows?
The truth is that yes, we have a
wedding this weekend to vary and we have
a wedding in Zaragoza, well, Zaragoza, what do
I say?
It's right here next door, we have the
farm, well, we have one of the wedding
farms in the city, it's very close to
our house, so it can be said that
this wedding is a caramel wedding because we
don't have to move.
And well, I say this because for the
vast majority of weddings this year we have
had to move all over the peninsula, I
mean, all over Spain, some even outside of
Spain, with which, well, imagine, right?
We started in May, we finished in December
and the vast majority of weekends we have
even had, not one wedding, but several, with
which it has been condensed.
In addition, as I was saying, some of
the weddings have been outside of Spain and
we have even had several workshops also outside
of Spain, with which, imagine, it has been
a bit crazy.
And well, we are not exhausted, but we
do get a little tired in the last
part of the wedding season, as you can
imagine, but we are really happy because, as
Erika said, this is a 100% season.
What does a 100% season mean?
Well, it simply means that all the couples
to whom we have given the job have
ended up very, very happy, the feedback is
being super positive and that makes us very
happy.
I also have to tell you that I
am really happy because finally today my father
is leaving the hospital.
Well, I have to tell you that the
last 15 days or the last 10 days
have been very, very good.
Just arriving from Ireland, just arriving from the
conference I had in Ireland, and after three
days my mother called me to tell me
that my father was not well, he had
to go to the hospital, and the truth
is that he has had, well, quite severe
heart problems.
And well, if any of you have been
in a relationship or have had a similar
problem like ours, have been in the hospital
all this time, well, you know what I'm
talking about.
And the truth is that you realize what
is important in life, when you have a
relative, in this case a father, in the
hospital, and you realize what is the most
important thing in your scale of values.
And well, the truth is that he has
had us for almost 15 days, giving everything
with him, supporting him and being close.
And well, that's why, it's not that I
have left all the work aside, but I
have been focused, right?
But well, let's focus on what really matters
now, mainly for you, which is this chapter.
And as you have already seen, the title
of this video is called Add an extra
value to our photos.
What is all this about, right?
What is all this video about?
Because the truth is that this video is
the third time I try to record it.
And it's not because it's complex, but because
the two times I've recorded it, I haven't
said everything I wanted to say.
And the truth is that this video can
be a bit abstract, or I don't know
how to define it, and it is likely
that in this video I will touch all
kinds of sticks, that is, that I will
go from one extreme to another, and it
is likely that this is one of those
videos that either I say a lot or
I say nothing.
So, if you like it, I'm very happy,
and if you don't like it, I'm very
sorry, but that's what it is, okay?
And well, also, in this video I'm going
to go a little bit, interspersing some of
my best images that I like throughout history,
because it's a video, as I say, that
I'm going to touch on quite a few
topics, or I'm going to touch on a
main topic, which is the one that has
all the fuss of everything.
You see that I'm already starting to mess
up.
But, well, let's get started, right?
First of all, by the phrase, add an
extra value to our photos.
What does this mean?
If we wanted to summarize it as a
final conclusion, in which, that is, a wedding
is something more than a wedding, a wedding
is something more than photographing a few photos
for a partner who has hired us.
For me, a wedding is an incredible occasion
to show the photographer that I am, not
only to the couple, not only to the
world, but also to me.
That's why, for me, a wedding has an
incredible projection, and that for me, that is,
each wedding is unique and that I'm going
to try to make the most of it.
Notice that you never know where an incredible
photo is going to come from.
In other words, it is true that there
are two types of weddings.
Weddings that are going to help us pay
the mortgage, and weddings that are going to
cover us with glory.
But we never know when that is going
to happen, because we have photographed weddings with
a very high budget and they have not
given us photos, and we have photographed weddings
with a very low budget and they have
given us incredible photos.
Do you understand?
What I want to convey to you in
this video is that, first of all, please,
think that weddings are for something more than
to work or to cover the experience, or
to work for Pepita and Pepito, who hired
us to photograph their wedding.
I don't think so.
And it is that the phrase that I
have already said three or four times, that
of adding an extra value to your images,
it could be said that it is the
engine that makes, at least in my case,
all this go forward.
Because maybe someone could say that I could
or could be living on rents for future
customers, that they can come to me, that
after having been working, after having had a
projection as big as the one I have
had, someone could think, well, you don't need
to do anything else, you already have the
career.
It turns out, well, maybe for 1, 2,
3 years, for future customers, maybe yes.
But I have already told you and many
of you who know me, you know that
I not only work for them, for you,
but I also work for myself.
And I am the worst of the judges
or the worst of the clients that one
can have.
That is, therefore, what I am going to
see or what I am going to try
at a wedding is to get the most
out of it.
Here in Spain we have a saying, right?
That everything is worth the pig.
Be careful, I am not saying nonsense.
Surely some of you think, what the hell
has he said?
That everything is worth the pig.
Yes, the Spaniards, we get everything out of
the gorrino.
Sausages, longaniza, ham, chorizo, sausages, meat.
Better not to say that my grandparents or
your grandparents ate.
That is, I mean, everything is worth a
wedding.
I'm going to get everything out of a
wedding.
I'm going to take advantage of everything.
He may take, put a slide, he may
take incredible photos, he may get a future
customer out of that wedding.
I mean, from a wedding I take advantage
of everything, okay?
Do you understand me?
That is the main thing I want to
convey to you, or the first point I
want to convey to you.
The starting point, or what I'm going to
get out of a wedding, sorry, I've already
told you, is photos.
Important.
Because that depends on our future as photographers,
okay?
Obviously, from a wedding we will get money.
I don't work for free.
And also, as I have already told you,
from a wedding a future customer may come
out, right?
But going back to the beginning, to the
photos, to what comes out, to what comes
out of a wedding.
Because don't forget, the money goes as it
comes, but the photos don't.
The photos stay forever.
That's why that emotion, those anxieties to say,
fuck, I have a wedding, let's see what
we get out of it.
And what do we do with those photos?
Or what do I want to do?
Publish.
I mean, the engine that moves me, besides
the photos, is that I'm going to publish
them.
Can you imagine, for example, an artist as
a painter, a sculptor, who makes a sculpture,
for example, and what is he going to
do with the sculpture?
Is he going to keep it for himself,
for his house?
No.
He wants to show it to the world.
I have that pressure, before facing a wedding,
to say, from this wedding I want to
publish something.
I'm going to publish something.
I don't think, okay, this wedding is very
simple, this wedding is very simple.
It's just that, as Erika says many times,
from the simplest weddings, you've got oil and
you've got iconic images that are going to
stay with you for the rest of your
fucking life.
And that's just the way it is.
That's why, regardless of whether the wedding is
good or bad, I'm going to push forward.
And I'm always going to think that from
that wedding, to deceive me, to force me,
like a donkey that they push forward, from
that wedding I'm going to force myself to
work so hard to try to publish.
Publishing is going to help me, first of
all, not to accommodate myself, not to settle
for what I have, but to get the
best out of me.
Why?
Because at least I think, if yesterday I
published this on Instagram, or on Facebook, or
on my blog, tomorrow I have to overcome
it.
But overcome who?
Myself.
And that makes me push forward.
I mean, that's what scares me the most,
not fear or vertigo, but to say, fuck,
I have to overcome myself.
You know?
And I want to keep being there.
When I say keep being there, it doesn't
mean being at the top of the podium.
No, no, no, no.
Because that's very ephemeral.
When I say keep being there, it means
keep taking pictures that not only they like,
not you, but me.
And that's very important, because all of this
comes from a spark of selfishness.
Remember that I'm talking all the time about
adding an extra value to your photos.
Thinking that from your photos you have to
get something more than just pleasing the partner
who hired you.
But going back to that spark of selfishness,
every photographer has to have that good ego.
What is good ego?
What is being a bit selfish with yourself?
I've already said it.
From that wedding we're going to photograph, from
that wedding they hired us, it's likely, and
more than likely, that the partners who are
going to hire us are not only going
to hire us for being good photographers, but
also for being good professionals.
But what I want to get to is,
do you think that the partners, many of
my partners, have hired me to take this
photo?
Or this one?
Or even this one?
No, probably not, my friends.
This is for me.
I'm doing this for myself.
It's obvious that these photos are going to
be for them.
It's obvious, isn't it?
But the ultimate goal of taking all these
risks, of arriving two hours before a ceremony,
or at a girlfriend's house, or visiting a
church the day before, is not only for
my clients, but also for me.
And that's where that spark of ego resides,
that I have, or that I want to
do.
Be careful, I'm not saying that I'm a
megastar, a megartist, and they have to put
me on a red carpet.
No, I think everyone already knows how far
this is going.
But all of this depends on that.
Saying, I'm going to add an extra value
to my photos, I'm going to give something
more to my clients, not only for them,
but also for me, because that's what this
is all about.
And that's what I wanted to share with
you today.
It's possible, sorry, that I've covered a lot
of topics, that I've gone crazy, that I've
gone crazy, and that I've said this, and
I've said that.
But well, more or less, I think, I
hope you've understood me.
So that's it, friends.
Be good.
I hope you've enjoyed this.
Wish us luck for tomorrow's wedding.
I'm sure it's going to go very well.
I'm at my best with it.
So that's it.
Be good.
Until next time.
And enjoy the weekend.
And keep contacting me.
