- [Director] Small Potatoes, take five.

- Well, I say that I'm the number one biggest fan

'cause, like, I've travelled with the Potatoes before,

and it's like I've eaten dinner with them,

and I've been to their birthday parties,

I've been to every concert,

I've seen every episode, even the bad shows.

I've got every toy, every collectable,

and that's why I'm the number one biggest fan.

- When I first saw the Small Potatoes,

I thought it a bit weird that they're not human,

but I really liked it.

- I like the small potatoes, 'cause they,

'cause they're snuggly and I can hug them.

(giggling)

- The Small Potatoes opened my eyes to, like,

like rock and roll and jazz um,

they're like really artistic.

And they sing in a small voice

but then their rock and roll music is with it

and it's really cool.

(kids cheer)

- Listen, they have their feet definitely in the earth.

I mean, they know where they're from.

I mean, they're from, y'know, 18 inches under the ground.

They're firmly in terra firma.

- When they started out, they were hicks.

(cow mooing)

- Well, me and the Potatoes,

we just arrived here on this beautiful farm.

And well, we did what we usually do,

we wrote a song about it.

And, uhh, here it is,

we're going to sing it for you right now.

- Anyway, uh, I listened to them.

And I thought it was a very original sound, you know.

And you can always tell if, y'know,

a group is going to get you or not.

And this group gets you.

They've got it.

- I don't think me and Ruby get on well because,

well, she doesn't really like me

'cause I'm sort of the person who understands everything.

- Um I like to dress all sparkly

and I always wear new stuff,

but he's always wearing torn jeans

and things that don't fit him that much.

- The Small Potatoes left the farm because they were,

because they wanted to be the Small Potatoes,

so the whole world would know them as the Small Potatoes,

and not just four random potatoes that know how to sing.

- Umm, I, uh, think I know, umm,

think why, umm, the Small Potatoes,

umm, left the farm.

Because, cos they were tired of the farm.

- Well, I think those Small Potatoes left their farm because

probably to get more opportunities on, like,

how they could like get themselves out there,

y'know, like, like, yeah.

- They packed everything and they hit the road.

(car horn honks)

(melodious guitar music)

- When I first saw the Potatoes,

I thought "these guys are awesome!"

- I think they're adorable

because they have like those little leaves,

and they all have English accents

and that's what makes them funny and um...

- I like potatoes with cottage cheese.

(everyone giggles)

(melodious guitar music) (horn honks)

- The Small Potatoes rocked my world!

(rooster crows)

(melodious music)

- Well, you know Ruby, she's a real diva

in the best possible way,

because you need somebody to front the band.

You need somebody that has charisma.

And that, ahh, Ruby's got it!

And Nate, well, Nate's a very important part

because he's sort of the serious one.

You know, he's the George Harrison, if you like.

- I feel the music and no one else can do that.

- We don't really like to talk about poor old Olaf.

You know.

I've been trying to get him on the protein diet,

but it's very difficult for a potato, you know,

it's all carbs, isn't it.

So it's a real big problem we've got there with him.

(car horns blares)

- Have you tried the dumplings?

They're lovely.

- Well, I think of Chip really as, he's like my son, really.

You know, if I had a son, it would be like Chip.

There's no side to him.

I mean, he's just a regular, really nice guy.

And by the way, he loves football.

I consider him more like a son than anything else.

(melodious music)

(boat horn blares)

- All right, ladies and gentlemen, step right up,

here they are...

- I think the Small Potatoes came to New York because

New York is one of the biggest cities

in the world for stage and music.

So they went there because they knew

of all the big buildings and all the theatres and everything

and they knew that it would be a big boost

for their happiness, fun, and their singing.

- Umm, people in New York aren't that friendly.

They should probably watch who they're talking to,

who they're um conversing with

so they don't end up in a bad situation.

- Audition is where, umm, you, um,

you could sing there

if you are in the play, or you could dance there,

or you could, umm, play a instrument.

(film projector whirring) (Ruby clears throat)

- They were green, yeah, but you see,

that's where I come in.

Because they need a manager with vision

and if you don't mind me just piping my own horn here,

but uh, I knew.

I knew what they needed.

- Eventually, the Potatoes got their big break,

right here on Broadway.

- It was all going smooth on Broadway

until the problems between Ruby and Nate.

- Well, one day before a big production, umm,

Ruby started fighting with Nate

because she just wanted the stage to her own, by her own,

like with no one else on it, even on the corner bits,

and so everyone had to be out,

and there had to be no noise, just her voice.

- Ruby was very difficult.

She always tell me "no like this, like that, Antonella",

and she has her tough personality.

It's hard to cut the Potatoes' hair

because it grows, it growing all over, everywhere.

- Well, it was obvious watching 'em, you know, on Broadway,

it was obvious that Broadway

was too small for the Small Potatoes.

- Well, I was so excited because "Haircut" was actually

a really good thing on TV.

It was really good 'cause that was a good song.

Then the next stop for them was even bigger.

It was Las Vegas!

I mean, what's going on?

Listen, you could just pop, like that.

I mean, you've got to be,

you've got to be more self-disciplined on this.

C'mon, pull yourself together.

- Umm, well, it's quite challenging to get some exercise

because, it's hardly like there's any exercise places

cos it's a big, big city.

Everyone else is all right, they don't need to,

but it's just me, there's no place for me to go.

It's not that I'm overweight, I just have very big bones.

- Olaf does tend to say he has very big bones,

but actually, he's overweighted.

("Conga!")

- Well, Ruby, you should let everyone else

on the centre of the stage, it's not all about you.

It's really weird when we're on stage,

it's like you have draw a circle on stage

and if anyone dares step one tiny inch inside,

you'll go completely crazy.

- I don't let other people in the centre of the stage

'cause you used to be the centre of the stage,

now I think it's my turn.

- Calm down, if something goes wrong again,

just forget about it and just be a happy potato family.

(crying)

- It's very hard to be famous

because everybody's watching you and follow you around,

so everybody wants to know your privacy.

- Every time they went somewhere,

even when they went to the loo, someone was following them.

- They didn't like it in Las Vegas anymore.

So they didn't really want to go back to New York.

So they went to India!

They went to India because they just needed some quiet time.

They just needed some peace and quiet.

(street noise)

(sitar music)

- They cleansed out, they mellowed out,

and I think they wrote some really good songs.

- [Indian DJ] The Small Potatoes' newest album

has just been released worldwide.

It's called "Imagination."

- Ommmmm.

- I think that it's pretty cool awesome,

when they dressed up as different characters,

it was very funny and, (laughs).

- Okay, I don't really have an answer for that one.

- I had a dream that I was in bed and when I woke up,

every time I hiccuped, I went back into the past.

(melodious music)

- I think Nate's jealous of me because I'm cuter than he is.

- She thinks she's Little Miss Perfect,

but I'm sorry, she's not.

- Oh, that, c'mon.

That was all planned.

It was all planned.

Listen, nobody rows on television.

I mean, it's just not done.

So uh we had a little script, there would be,

you know, a little altercation, and it was great

because I mean I think it was headlines all over the world!

And, uhh, it really did help sales.

- [Lester] Once they went on that world tour,

when everybody, I don't care what the colour of their skin,

what the creed, what the religion,

when they heard the Potatoes, it was like unbelievable.

Mayhem.

They just lapped them up.

- In France, the Small Potatoes are like gods.

- Small Potatoes forever! - Whooo!

- Ruby loved the disco, because it was her favourite music

and Ruby became a diva because she was a girl

and she liked disco.

I mean, if you're a girl and you like disco,

you have no choice but to be a diva.

- Ruby was a diva.

It means that, umm, she was mean or she dresses very fancy.

(camera shutter clicks)

- [Lester] And it wasn't really Nate's cup of tea,

but to honest with you, I mean, he went along with it.

I mean, he's a performer, too.

- Well, Nate, I don't think he reacted that good to disco.

I mean, you wouldn't believe it.

when they start waving potato chips around,

but having said that, kids will be kids.

- We were getting muddled up a bit,

we were getting a bit confused.

- I'm a big fan of the Small Potatoes,

but even I was getting annoyed.

- The Small Potatoes were really confused,

they didn't know who they were

or what they were doing.

It was a great, big mess.

- I mean, come on, you two,

I mean look, we've got to have a heart to heart here.

I mean, you're destroying yourselves,

you're destroying the band.

I mean, Ruby come on now.

You know, I love you, you're fantastic,

but you've got to stop all the shenanigans.

And Nate, come on, Nate.

God, just get with it.

Sometimes, I don't know where your head is.

All right, I mean listen, we've got a great thing here.

Let's not ruin it.

Hey all right.

You do a great show tonight.

Dinner's on me.

- The Small Potatoes wanted to get back with the fans,

so they made the decision to go on tour

and they went around on a little bus,

which was very uncomfortable

and none of the Small Potatoes liked it one bit.

- It was the worst tour I've ever seen.

It was a disaster.

- Disaster.

- The tour was derivative.

- [Snail] Feelings, take three.

♪ Feelings, I've got so many feelings ♪

♪ And I feel them deep in my heart ♪

♪ Well I feel happy when we get to play ♪

♪ And I feel sad when you go away ♪

♪ Because you're my best friend ♪

- I've been, I've been around,

and that was the worst tour of my life.

Nate and Ruby were ready to kill each other.

They were like cats and dogs.

- I think the things that make Ruby a diva are

(car horn blares)

if she doesn't get what she wants,

she just gets all angry

and everything has to be absolutely perfect,

otherwise, she gets mad.

After the tour,

the Small Potatoes got approached by a TV producer

and he was just, like, "hey, I know you guys.

"We can make a lot of money on this TV show."

And Ruby was just, like, "yeah, let's do it."

And Nate was just, like, "no, we shouldn't do it.

"This is not a good idea."

I didn't like it when we tried to sell "Potato Train"

to a TV um station and make us a lot more commercial.

- [Andrew] Let's go for another take.

- Oh. Okay. (timer beeps)

("Potato Train")

♪ Potato Train chuggin' around ♪

♪ Potato Train ♪

- [Lester] I mean, look, the Potato Train,

you know, why not for kids?

I mean, they're the ones

that are gonna be buying the records, aren't they?

And I, I think Ruby was right here.

I think she's being proved right.

(train horn blares) ♪ Potato Train ♪

- Buy toys for 19.99 or whatever the price is.

What is the price for the toys?

- The Small Potatoes toys were really rubbish

because, I mean, who wants a train

and then the wheels fall off!

I mean, that's tragic.

- This is ridiculous.

I mean, I want to know who was in charge of this,

because I'm telling you now, that's it, you're fired.

This is ab, look at these wheels!

They're all falling off!

I mean, the wheels have come off!

- I threw all the Potatoes out the first day,

and I asked for my money back.

Their business went down the tubes.

(bell tolls slowly and sadly)

- Well Chip, you know, listen,

I've got to talk to you seriously.

It looks like, you know, it looks like Ruby wants out.

Nate, you know, they want to split up.

They wanna just break up the band.

I think it's a terrible idea.

I've tried everything in my power to persuade them,

but they won't listen to me.

You know you're gonna be on your own a bit now.

I'm not gonna be there every day for you.

So hey, hang in there, hang in there.

All right, man.

I really love ya. (Chip cries)

(mellow music)

- Everyone except Ruby, was struggling so much.

And Ruby was the only one who was still standing.

(seal barks)

- The only one who did great was Ruby.

She became quite famous.

- [Jasper] She had a butler,

somebody to clean up her messes.

Uhh, I thought that she was really bossy,

and I kind of felt bad for the people who,

like, had to do what she said.

- You can't just you know, "yes" her, yes, yes, yes.

I mean, no wonder she's just completely,

I think, like a little lost girl at the moment.

And it breaks my heart, it really does.

- [Emmanuel] She was in the restaurant,

she was making an important call

and she wasn't getting any reception,

so she got infuriated and then threw the phone

and then she got kicked out

for belligerent and rude behaviour.

- She was very, very rude.

Really rude, so in fact, I was rude back to her myself.

Because if she's rude to me, I'm gonna be rude back!

So she was really rude to me

and she was rude to other people

and I didn't like her being rude.

How many times did I say "rude"?

- Honestly, I don't think she's well managed,

And I say that with no side at all.

I don't think she's well managed, she's over-exposed

and you know, it's like a shooting star,

very bright at the moment, but don't,

you watch this next year, it'll be dim, it'll be gone.

- Ruby, Ruby made a lot of money and she was super famous,

but she wasn't happy.

S-She really missed her friends, the Small Potatoes.

(sobs)

- I mean it's fantastic, you know, what's going on now.

You know, the, all that Facebook and all that,

the internet, you know, it's incredible, isn't it.

Of course, people wanted to see the Potatoes back,

they wanted the reunion.

(melodious music)

- Please get back together, Small Potatoes.

- Please, Small Potatoes, you have to get back together.

- It started out on Facebook, then Twitter, then YouTube.

So it showed all those videos,

and so tonnes of people were joining.

Even the people who didn't actually

like the Potatoes before.

So eventually one of the Small Potatoes wrote back

and they said, "wow, I think I might help you guys."

- Um, I forgive Ruby, because even though

she always bosses us around,

after a while when she doesn't do it anymore

you sort of miss it.

- They all decided to get back together, everyone but Ruby.

(news music)

(speaking in foreign language)

(sigh) - Ruby.

- And for some reason Ruby, she just wouldn't do it.

So I don't know quite what happened.

But you know, who can really stand in for Ruby?

There's nobody on the planet.

I mean, forget it!

- I'm outside the Reunite Concert.

There's so many people!

There's like a million people here.

- I really hope Ruby would arrive at the big concert

because I'd like to see them all back together again,

so that we can all have a nice um lunch and everything

so that they can enjoy themselves again.

- [Fans] Potatoes, Potatoes, Potatoes!

- Fans, I can't believe it!

Uhhhh, the Small Potatoes

are doing the concert without Ruby!

Chip is by himself on the stage!

It's really, really sad.

- Welcome back, Ruby!

- I-I thought the Small Potatoes

were awesome at the concert, it's so cool,

I don't really know how to describe it.

- I was so happy when the Small Potatoes got back together.

I was so happy!

- I was overwhelmed.

(audience applauding and cheering)

- I'm so happy to see the small potatoes together.

I mean, it's amazing now,

I mean, it's just, I've been missing them so much.

Missing them more than anything else

in the whole entire world.

- It was so like we're supposed to be together,

it's not like we're always going to separate,

it was just little silly things.

- I was really, really, really happy

when we got back together.

I don't really want to get split up again,

because we're like a family and we stay together.
