- It's BikeFest.

This is my favorite
event of the year.

I love walking up and down and
looking at the motorcycles.

You know, these guys
are buying alcohol.

They're spending their
money at restaurants.

They're spending their
money at t-shirt shops.

They're spending their
money at Airbnbs,

spending all kinds
of money down here.

It's fun.

Normally it's peaceful.

The participants are
usually a lot better

than a normal summer
crowd we have.

These guys are mostly
respectful, decent people,

but I think it was about
four years ago now,

it was a Bike Night,
like the end of June.

They don't do it anymore,

but kinda like how we
do Hot Summer Nights

where it's a car show,

they did bike night
where it was a bike show.

There was a fatal shooting.

[gun shots firing]

Ever since then, we take
it a little more seriously.

- This is the last major
event of the summer

and this is the biggest
event of our year.

It's gonna be elbow to elbow.

- [Craig] We'll have close

to a hundred
thousand bikes here.

- There'll be nothing
but motorcycle

after motorcycle up
and down the strip.

It's a really neat event,
but it's also an event

we have to have eyes open.

- [Craig] You have
a lot of people

that have been
drinking all day long.

You have some of
the criminal element

that maybe your outlaw biker
clubs bring to the table.

We ask agencies to
send extra help to us.

Anywhere up to 10 agencies

are going to be involved
in some way with BikeFest.

[motorcycle rumbling]

- We kinda take a deep breath

and we brace ourselves
for what's coming.

[motorcycles revving]

- He pulled out in front of him?

However, obviously this

gonna have an officer

come pick him up
and transport him

to a safer location
to do fields.

dealing with him right now.

So, sounds like he's drunk.

If he is drunk,
he's going to jail.

books since I was a kid

and he was here the whole time.

I arrested him for DWI.

We ended up dropping it.

Being young like that,
making stupid choices,

it's part of being
a kid, you know.

We all make dumb
choices at that age.

So I was actually kind of happy

'cause he was very respectful.

He was a kind kid.

Just made a dumb choice.

I mean, he's got a breathalyzer.

He was proud of it.

Good for him.

So I saw a vehicle

that appeared to have
their bright lights on

and they were not
maintaining their lane.

So we're gonna try to catch up.

We'll follow behind 'em.

It looks like they're
gonna turn over here.

[turn signal clicking]

I mean this guy's
swerving in his lane.

We'll let him turn in here.

[suspenseful music]

- [Dispatcher] Go ahead.

- Hey, how's it going?

- Good. I'm Officer Carson

with the Osage Beach
Police Department.

- Reason I stopped
you is you were,

when you passed me on OB
Parkway, you were swerving.

- [Carson] Didn't see
very good? All right.

- Okay. Where you guys
headed? Over here?

- [Carson] I do smell alcohol.
Did you have a drink with-

- [Carson] You didn't drink?

So what I'm gonna do is I'm
gonna remove you from the car

since I can smell the alcohol,

I'm gonna have you come
sit with me in my car.

you go to the passenger seat

that way we can separate
you from the smell.

- The alcohol does?

So you shouldn't
have driven tonight.

Possible DWI.

You're like, that's not normal.

- Okay, well I can
smell alcohol on you.

I have to base it on
what I've got, man.

What I am gonna
suggest that happens

is we park your car in the
first available parking spot

and you guys walk.

I'm not gonna
arrest you for DWI.

- I don't think you
should have driven.

I think if you're having
trouble even just standing still

and following my
finger with your eyes,

that's a divided attention task.

And so is driving.

- Yep. All right,

He swears he wasn't drinking,

but this is a good outcome.

It wasn't a super
strong smell, so-

- So I think this is

Everything from what
they consider the 1%

of outlaw motorcycle
gangs to the riding clubs,

to the family mom and pop clubs.

So this is where all the
extra resources come in.

So we've asked all these
agencies that are here to help

to just help us span out
on the sides of the street.

If not, everybody just
instigates all these burnouts.

One starts to do a burnout,

then everybody starts
to do burnouts.

[motorcyle revving]

[siren blaring]

- All right let's clear this
with them coming through here.

What happened?

- Biker just did a like
10 or 15 second burnout,

bike kept going.

He ran into the crowd.

Basically right now we're
trying to keep everybody back

and keep the crowd down.

This is where all the
extra resources come in.

If not, everybody just
instigates all these burnouts.

[bleep]

- Like we just saw,

a simple burnout can turn into
a few injuries real quick.

- It looked like at least
pretty serious ankle break,

possibly a head injury.

[siren wailing]

Of course then you
have a whole crowd

that moves in to
see what happened.

And not only do we
have injured folks,

but we have now a crowd
containment problem,

which is why you
see us really trying

to tame down the burnouts.

- Want him to come through.

- Yeah.

- All right.

- Watch out, guys.

- Is there a chance we
can get a little bit

of help just kind of
spread out through here?

- Yeah.

- Because all they're doing-

- Get them off the roads?

- All they're doing
is instigating it.

- We're just gonna
fan out on ours,

kind of both sides.

- We've got a little
bit left in the evening

and we're just kind of
keeping our head on a swivel

and making sure we're
spacing out our resources

enough so we can manage this.

[dark instrumental music]

- I know she said she
had a lane violation,

but those tires are also
half the size of this car.

[radio chatter]

Hey sir, I just
noticed you pulled

into a closed business in
the middle of the night.

- This is your business?

- Yeah, go ahead,
man. Beautiful truck.

- Honestly, normally I'd
look further into that,

but I can tell by the truck
that this makes sense.

- [Riner] I only
flipped them on-

- [Riner] Yeah, do
your thing, man.

- Perfect.

- We had another officer
call your truck in.

They said they observed
your tires crossed the line

and when I was following you
and I'm like well no [bleep].

- [Riner] Yeah, strong wind.

- [Riner] It's a
beautiful truck.

Clearly had a lot of
custom work done to it.

A lot of money, love,
and care went into it.

- [Riner] That's awesome.

- [Riner] Smart girl.

- Of all the trucks
I've pulled over,

it's definitely
high off the ground.

In fact, I could probably
fit half of this vehicle

under that truck without
actually making contact with it.

But I mean the guy
was super nice.

Let us look inside.

I think that's awesome

that you've got a father
and daughter doing that

because we see all too
much kids come out here

in the middle of the night

and they're doing stuff
they shouldn't be doing.

So I'd much rather see this.

[upbeat music]

- BikeFest is one of
the largest events

in the entire Lake Region.

BikeFest is a huge
shot in the arm.

It brings in hundreds
of thousands of folks

for a three, four day period.

It brings tens of
thousands of dollars

in extra revenue to
the city of Lake Ozark

and every community around us.

Without that growth in
that spur in our season,

we would not have the success
of our local businesses

that we have.

[upbeat music]

- That was a barracks
tattoo that I got

from one of my Marines.

Oaf. Like, oh,
dude, that's [bleep] oaf.

That's operator as [bleep]

It's kind of a term that
we had in the infantry.

It's actually a term for
like operators, like DEVGRU,

SEAL team, the rangers.

They're operators, right.

Well, the infantry battalion,
we would say, oh man,

that's operator as
blank, you know.

So it just means
that, I don't know.

It means you're a badass [bleep]

[siren blaring]

- 10's en route.

So it sounds like we
have an individual

that is putting hands on people

and we're gonna go see
what this is about.

[suspenseful music]

- [Dispatcher] I'm
contacting medics.

- You never put your hands
on anybody else here?

- Did she verbally attack you

or did she physically

we get to the point

where there's blood on the
right side of your face?

grabbing his glasses,

pulling them off of his face.

They're prescription glasses.

And so I was like trying
to pull them apart

and she turned around and
grabbed my hair and glasses

and was pulling and I was
trying to get her hand off

and I don't know if
I cut her or not.

I don't see anything that
would say that I did.

But she's got a cut on her face.

But she was also getting
really wild and crazy.

- Well, I'm just
letting you know,

witnesses on scene are
telling us differently, okay.

Do you have your ID?

We got dispatched to a peace
disturbance in progress.

The reporting party was telling
us that the female subject

that we have over here

was throwing glass at
vehicles and other people.

[indistinct chattering]

- We have medics en
route to evaluate her.

She has blood on the
side of her head.

At this point, we're just
gathering all the facts

and going to
separate both parties

for the rest of the night

or make a arrest for an assault.

- [Bar Owner] She threw
a bottle or a wine glass

or something at his car.

- [Bar Owner] We do.
We can, I can show you guys.

- [Kordula] That'd be
amazing. Can I see that?

I think she threw his phone.

- [Kordula] Oh, It's his phone.

started it all officer

was her grabbing the
phone and throwing it.

- So basically she's
an ex to the gentleman

in the Hard Rock Cafe.

- Okay.

- The other female, I guess
new girlfriend, partner,

friend, whatever.

- Got it, okay.

- They're here
enjoying themselves.

She shows up and starts
attacking the male victim.

- Oh.

- So basically her
earring being ripped out

is a defense wound from somebody

trying to defend
themselves against her?

- Yes.

- Okay, got it.

blood alcohol content

so we don't have to
take you to a hospital.

have a very large influx

of people in town.

We keep extra officers on duty.

different motorcycle clubs

that are in the area.

further up the highway from us.

'cause they, I mean they've got,

it's gotta be tens
of thousands of bikes

and we get a lot of the
1% outlaw motorcycle clubs

that come in.

So it's good for us all to just
have a really good presence

and show these people that
that want to come here

and do wrong that the lake
area law enforcement's

really a team and we're
standing here together

and that they're being watched.

We've been riding
around on the UTV,

which is good because
a lot of people see us.

However, right now we're
gonna kind of start zigzagging

in between the groups.

That way they see that
we're in there with them,

that we can keep an eye
on what they're doing.

She appears to have been
remaining on property

when she shouldn't be.

finding somewhere to go?

properly evicted

before we can just
come kick you out.

an eviction paper,

at that point, then yeah,

you need to get your affairs
and figure something out.

So we're not gonna kick you
off the property tonight.

we can't let that go unresolved.

to deal with that.

So the young lady we were
called here to remove

from the property, further
investigation revealed

she had a active felony
warrant for her arrest.

For that reason, she's going
to be taken into custody.

- [Riner] I'm gonna teach you
something they taught me.

Do you know what
combat breathing is?

- [Riner] Perfect.

- Similar.

So you breathe in slowly
over four seconds,

only through your nose.

Hold your breath four seconds.

After four seconds,

you will slowly exhale
over four seconds.

Do that over and
over and over again.

- [Riner] Of course. It helps
slow your heart rate down.

- [Riner] Oh, no,
ma'am. Far from it.

- Wasn't a completely
happy ending,

but it was an ending of sorts.

I'm sure that young
lady was relieved

to know that we're gonna
do our due diligence.

- Wants to evict her, they
need to do it the right way

before they call us.

While at the same time it stinks

that she's gotta go to jail.

But it's the nature of it.

between the hardcore riders

and the weekend warriors.

getting on this chopper

with his Harley-Davidson coat,

that's definitely
a weekend warrior.

[motorcycle roaring]

Just a couple more hours and
we're, uh, we're outta here.

Almost into the home stretch.

- All right, not a problem.

[motorcycle engines revving]

[indistinct yelling]

- I think he's
basically telling you

to stay off his ass.

- [Kordula] Okay.

- No, he was saying you
didn't mean to do that.

Just go.

- Good.

- We've had great success
trying to manage these crowds.

Because of the extra
resources we pulled in

with technology and other
agencies coming in to help,

it's really kinda
helping us keep control

of this massive crowd.

[motorcycles revving]

- [Mayor] We're glad that we
made it through the weekend.

All in all, our
officers did a great job

keeping everything
under control down here.

And we look forward to
another BikeFest next year.
