My name is Jay Ammo.

I'm originally from Georgetown, Guyana,

but I now reside in Clarksville, Tennessee.

That's such a cool name.

Is that a stage name, or is that your name?

It comes from people not being able to say

my original last name, which is Amerally. Okay.

So everybody started calling me Ammo

'cause I was in the military, so...

Kelsea: Wow. That's cool. There we go.

That's really cool.

Guyana, it's an English-speaking country in the Caribbean.

It's a beautiful place.

I grew up amongst a bunch of different cultures.

It's like "one people, one nation, one destiny"

is literally the motto, and they live by it.

My parents did everything they could do

to make sure that me and my sisters had a good life,

but it's hard to pursue music as a career there.

So after moving here, be in America finally,

I wanted to do music and I wanted to be a hero.

I got the chance to do both,

because I did a whole deployment tour to Afghanistan.

It was kind of a nerve-racking situation,

from getting woken up to rocket fire,

and you're getting shaken off your bed

and get ready to, like, get into battle.

My job was indirect fireman.

It gets scary sometimes because you're dealing with live bombs

in your hands, so it teaches you that mental stillness.

That's why most people say, "Man, you're just always calm."

It's like that's where it comes from.

I got out of the military in 2022.

I started to prioritize music.

* They say what they want, but they got nothing on me *

And now that I get to have this kind of opportunity,

I don't know how to react.

I know. Did you come to the show?

No, I was driving past. I couldn't afford it.

I'm packing my bags for my blind audition.

I'm Brook Wood. I'm 33 years old.

I'm originally from Indianapolis, Indiana,

but I'm currently living in Queens, New York.

My dad was a lead guitarist in a local country band

my whole life in Indianapolis, Indiana.

They played local gigs all the time.

Our thing was just we'd talk about music.

We'd play. We'd sing together.

My dad was the king of, "My daughter can sing,

and you got to hear it."

After college, I got connected with this show

called "50 Years of Rock and Roll."

We go all over the States.

Tour life, baby.

We got to play The Palladium in Carmel, Indiana.

My entire family came out.

Most importantly, my dad was out there

and got to see me doing my thing.

I remember just looking out,

seeing him grinning ear to ear, just so happy.

And that's probably the only time I ever saw him cry,

'cause he was just so proud.

* I fell in love with the chemicals *

In 2021, I'm in New York.

I got a call from my mom.

She had called the ambulance 'cause my dad was unconscious.

She keeps me on speakerphone the entire time the EMTs are there.

I can hear everything.

And I was able to tell him I loved him.

* And all these little things *

My dad said "I love you" back.

And he passed on the way to the -- to the hospital, yeah.

* And you said, "Hold me" *

We had a celebration of life at a family member's home.

I brought my guitar, and I made my entire family

sing "Take Me Home, Country Roads."

I just know he was laying there...

...and hearing everything that she said.

And couldn't be more proud of her.

For my blind audition, I am singing "Save Me" by Jelly Roll.

It's about somebody who has gone through

many hard things in their life.

My dad would be a huge fan of Jelly Roll

because Jelly Roll is, like, right up his alley.

And I know that he'd be so proud.

I'm so nervous.

that he asked me, "When are you gonna be on 'The Voice'?

You should be up there doing this."

And I'm from Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

When I started playing guitar at 8,

I had the desire to start singing,

and I just always knew

that's exactly what I wanted to be doing.

I'm a full-time gigging musician.

I play five to eight gigs a week.

I do regular gigs playing in a restaurant,

playing in a bar, playing in a lounge.

I've been producing my own shows with a full band.

But there was a point in my life where I gave up on everything.

Richie: The man has arrived for his audition. Right.

March 28, 2019, is my clean date.

It's been over five years.

I think I've been an addict my whole life.

And that was one of the hardest things I've ever done.

At the treatment center that I went to,

music played a role in my recovery.

This is my boy Adam.

When I heard him play, I was totally blown away.

Richie Supa is a professional musician

who worked with Aerosmith,

and he's a founding member of the treatment center itself.

I go back there every week and play there

for the clients that are in there now

and give hope to people

that are literally sitting in the seat I sat in.

Oh, wow.

I hope the coaches hear potential,

because music is a part of me and...

so is addiction.

And now so is recovery.

By going through all of that,

I found a bigger purpose for me and my music,

and that's for other people.

They say that when you get clean,

you can have a life beyond your wildest dreams.

When I was 17, I joined my first band.

Most people leave high school,

and college is where you figure out what your thing is.

I wanted to figure out

how to get people to respect me as a vocalist.

I said, hey, why not go to the streets?

You know, you could get paid from this

and you can practice all at the same time.

I started street performing, and I would sing all day.

It really gave me a sense of who I am

and the person that I could become.

It's super exciting for me

to go from singing to strangers on the street

to these amazing coaches.

It'd be a super-exciting moment for me to get a chair turn

and for these coaches to say that,

"There's something about this guy that I feel like

he could be special, and I want him on my team."

I'm Simone Marijic, and I'm 20 years old.

I was born and raised in Los Angeles, California,

but I go to school at the University of Virginia.

I'm studying history and music there.

I was hoping that Simone would go into medicine.

But that's okay. She shattered those dreams.

Education has definitely been the grounding force in my life,

and I think part of it is because my parents

placed such importance on it.

We are so proud of you.

Nerds.

Nerds, big-time.

My parents emigrated from Croatia.

They are the smartest, most driven people I know.

They inspire me every single day.

They had to be very strong. They left their families.

They didn't speak any English.

They came to a place where a lot of people

didn't take them seriously and treated them differently.

But they both came

because they were really committed to their careers

and also to ensure that their kids would have that education

that meant so much to them.

The life is hard,

and you have to work hard for whatever you do in life.

Music in Croatia is where my roots in music came from,

such a symbol of pride in the culture.

My fondest memories growing up are sitting at a big table

and singing traditional folk melodies.

Everyone's, like, on a different pitch,

so it kind of sounds a little crazy,

but that doesn't really matter,

because the important part of it is the joy that comes through.

I just feel the most myself in music.

I think being on "The Voice" is just this unreal experience

to, like, prove to myself that I'm ready to take that step.

But there is that tangible pressure that I feel,

potentially risking everything that my parents have sacrificed

for me to have these opportunities.

Those were, like, my everything.

Anytime someone could watch me literally do anything,

Alanna: Growing up one of nine kids,

it was a party.

We were always in our front yard

or wandering the woods in the back of our house.

It was just always something to do.

And then in 2008, things took a turn.

I was seven years old when my family lost my house.

My father's business did fall on hard times,

on top of the housing crisis.

We would stay with uncles, aunts, and family friends.

I did not know we were homeless.

I thought it was like a continuous sleepover.

Eventually we as a family relocated

to live with my grandmother.

We had to start all over.

At times we were faced with a homeless shelter,

but we really didn't do that

because they wanted to split us up.

So you're talking about in excess of 15 or more people

in the house, with one bathroom.

I recall me, my older sister Aaliyah,

my younger brother DJ, my younger brother Timothy,

all in the same small little room.

Two people would get the bed one night,

two people would get the floor.

During these hard times,

music allowed my family to stick together.

I'm 35 years old.

I was born in Detroit, Michigan,

but I am currently living in Los Angeles, California.

The kind of music that I loved growing up was country.

But today I will be singing "Burning Love" by Elvis.

His voice, his musings,

his style was always a present force in my life.

Cornelius: Today I have my husband as well as my mom

here supporting me.

So, I met my husband, Christian, in college.

It's been almost 15 years,

and it feels like we're still 20-year-old kids.

He's been the one that's helped me put one foot

in front of the other to follow my dreams.

Life has such a funny way of surprising you.

May of 2023,

I woke up and I couldn't see words on my phone.

I was diagnosed with a form of macular dystrophy.

There's no cure. There's no treatment.

I can still see out of my left eye.

[ Voice breaking ] But I'm so afraid of, like...

just, I don't know, going blind.

This experience really taught me

to just not sweat the small stuff.

Life is short. Losing my vision...

My name is Cornelius Versa.

I'm 35 years old, from Detroit, Michigan.

I just want to say I didn't turn because my team is full.

But I also want to say this is my first year doing this.

The hardest part is I can hear that you're performing.

I really wanted to watch you

'cause I can tell that you're living and breathing the moment

and the performance, and that's the whole point,

is to just find a song that you love, sing it, and connect.

And I know that you did that,

and I'm bummed I didn't get to see it.

This has been growing for three years.

For me, the comparison with Elvis Presley was just hard.

I have loved him in the deepest way

since I was a little boy.

It grew even deeper when I became friends with Priscilla.

It became even deeper when she asked me

if I would be interested in singing a posthumous duet

with him, and deeper when we had

a number one with a song called "Fever."

Believe it or not,

I would take my kids to the pilgrimage at Graceland.

I will never forget going to his trophy room

and seeing that number one,

and then that suit he was wearing

and the suit that I was wearing next to each other.

It would be the closest I would ever get to who I felt

was one of my heroes. Yeah.

And it doesn't mean you're not great, 'cause you're great,

I am 17 years old,

and I'm from a little small town called Cole Camp, Missouri.

I had a very unique upbringing.

I lived in a camper for over 10 years.

I used to be an oil and gas worker,

so I traveled all over doing that.

It was a bigger camper, and me and my sister shared one room.

We were like, "This is your side and this is my side.

Keep your side clean, I keep my side clean, okay?"

We moved all across the country, never once been to California.

So it's my first time being to L.A., and it is super nice.

[ Laughter ]

So, I'm a senior in high school right now

and I do the music on the side.

But my day cap, the day job,

that is a maintenance man

for my mom and dad's property management company.

Trevon's a better singer than he is a maintenance man.

100%.

Anytime he goes under a house

and there's spider webs under there,

he'll just crawl right back out.

I'll hear him scream, and he'll just crawl right back out.

Nah, that spider was the size of my hand.

In my career, I've played a lot of wineries.

I've played at the Baldknobbers down in Branson.

That's the oldest show in Branson.

I do a little bit of rock, a little bit of pop,

but mostly red-dirt, outlaw country.

And he is tough because Blake has broken his heart

How long were you guys together?

16 seasons. Yeah.

That's a long time of loving a genre

that you just don't get to do because Blake --

We'll talk more about this trauma in a little bit.

Yeah, I mean, I think he has

a lot to work through, but maybe this is fate.

What your voice does that I love,

it cuts like a knife and it's really, really hard.

You know, you're singing a big song and everyone's going crazy.

And the experience, it's a very intimidating one.

Or it can be.

You really never let that get the best of you.

And your voice is what sailed over the top

of all of the chaos.

And to me, the people who

end up winning this show are the ones

that have those voices that just cut through all the noise.

Because he was, just even with his body language,
