and they've been scared.

The hardest thing about this is that a woman lost her life.

A son lost his mum,

and that's what makes
everything so painful.

this idea that I was going to marry Alec

that was not where
my experience in life is.

of cat hair.

And I had an asthma attack.

And I had to go
to the hospital

and get a shot of epinephrine
from the doctors there.

And I said to my wife.

I said, "Don't.
We can't have cats ever."

"We can't have cats."

She goes out
and buys four cats.

So everywhere I go,

every corner I turn,
is the cats, they're like...

And I'm like, [bleep].

See, the best thing about him
is he's never listening to me.

of hospitalization.

that he tries to control

and the way that he behaves

has to do with...

his OCD,

which manifests itself
in many, many different ways.

He wants the shoes
lined up a certain way,

and the toys put over here,
and this here,

and this stacked
on top of here.

[Hilaria] And you see

the rituals that people
who have OCD,

that they actually have
to re-put these things

in a certain way.

And since Alec's trial
in New Mexico is coming up,

it's become so much worse.

new troubles tonight

for Alec Baldwin

over the deadly 2021 shooting
on the set of Rust.

After charges against
the actor were

dropped last year,

he's now been indicted again.

[newsreader 2] New Mexico
prosecutors have now recharged

actor Alec Baldwin

with one count
of involuntary manslaughter.

If convicted, he could face
up to 18 months in jail.

The past three years has
been a significant chunk

of...

my children's lives.

Our older ones were
much younger

but have had the awareness
because of their age

to be able to understand
what's going on.

The youngest three don't know

a life without this.

We're going through
some very stressful things

and we're trying
to parent through it.

Everything was so different
before this happened,

and our lives are
very, very different.

Our children have been forced

to recognize that.

They've been forced
to deal with that with us

in their own way.

They've had some really
unfortunate realizations

about things
that are going on.

Life will
forever be different.

Helena lost her life

in the most
unthinkable tragedy.

A son lost his mom.

We are going to feel
and carry this pain forever.

This will be a part
of our family's story.

This has been just surreal.

I mean, I can't even believe
that we're going through this.

And I always feel more...

in pain about you than me,

'cause I think to myself,

"Well, you know,
I'm going to try my best to just get through it."

And I think
what it's done to you

and how much it's hurt you
and everything.

This past year was
just terrible.

There was times
I'd lay in bed and I'd go,

"Wow, I can't...

I can't get up."

That's not like me.
I'm not like that at all.

Not in any way
am I like that, never.

[Hilaria] Everyone
who is close to Alec has seen

his mental health decline.

He was diagnosed with PTSD.

And he says,
you know, if... [sighs]

in his darkest moments,

"If an accident had
to have happened this day,

Why am I still here?

Why couldn't it have been me?"

[tense music playing]

[Hilaria] You wake up
in the morning

and you're like, "Oh, God,
why did I wake up?"

You know?
You get to the point,

you're so dark,
"Why did I wake up?"

-Yeah.
-And I just can't. It's so painful.

And it's almost that, like,
"Oh, God, no, it's real.

-It's real."
-My good friend said to me the other day, he said,

you know, "How are you doing?"

And he says to me
all the time, "How you doing?"

And I said, I'm happier
when I'm asleep

than when I'm awake.

Even though this is hard,

and there are moments
where you think...

I think, I don't know
how we're gonna continue on.

And then I look at the kids

and I see how hard
we're trying

to create happy for them,

even if we're masking stuff
for ourselves.

I know that what
we're going through

is maybe unique,

but every family goes
through hard times.

And that's something
that we can feel

a community of support.

Knowing that the best
that we can do

is do our best

and try to make
our kids happy.

And so that's
what we're doing.

I honestly, honestly...

from the bottom of my soul,

I don't know where I'd be

if I didn't have you
and these kids

going through this.

I never would have
made it with this.

Sometimes I'd say,
"Why did I have seven kids?

Why do we have seven kids?"

And I realize

to help carry me

and you
through this situation.

The thing is, yes,
we're blessed to have them,

and they give us joy.

And at the same time,

we want to make sure

that they're always
our children,

you know,
and that they can be children,

and that they don't
bear the burden

of having to carry us.

And that's why we get up.

We get up,

and we put a smile on our face
to the best of our ability,

because we want that
to be their reality.

That's why we came out here
this summer.

[Carmen] Mom!

We want to give our kids

a nice summer

where they can go to camp

and jump in the pool.

When something bad happens,
there is a fire.

And your job is to try
not to let the fire spread.

But I wanted to put,
as much as I could,

a fireproof barrier
around my kids.

It's extraordinarily difficult

when you feel
so horrible inside

and so scared and confused.

-[Carmen] I don't know
how you're going to get-- -Oh, this is so cold.

Because you have
this constant nausea here,

the panic,
the inability to sleep.

This trial is happening,

and Alec could go to prison.

No amount of time is
going to make my children

and me not miss him.

I would do anything
for my children.

I'm gonna freeze my balls off!

I mean, I know
this is a cliche,

but a child should
have a childhood.

They should have
a period of time where...

they don't have to think
about certain things.

And I'm very nervous
about that.
