=Love and Sword=

(Adapted from Shen Cangmei's novel Sleeping Beside Yan Shao)

=Episode 7=

It's getting windy.

The spring breeze brings the fallen flowers.

Tomorrow night,

I'm afraid the street will be too full

of fallen flowers to be swept away.

Fallen flowers?

They deserve such a nice description?

They're nothing more than a bunch of pissants.

In all my years of traveling in the martial world,

I've never seen

a woman like you.

You're so weak but ruthless.

The martial world is full of strife, and only the strongest survive.

Which of those who claim to be of the highest caliber

are not motivated by greed?

If it weren't for the treasure,

they all wouldn't be here.

If something happens

to those sects in the territory of Yuchi Manor,

it will be difficult for Master Lin to explain to the world.

Since ancient times, the weak have submitted to the strong.

The strong don't care what the weak think.

By the time Yuchi Manor

rules the martial arts world,

they won't have the guts to complain.

If you weren't in such a state,

you'd have the whole Yuchi Manor in your possession.

If I wasn't in such a state,

I wouldn't need others

to help me plan.

It's all right.

With your body,

you can't withstand the spring breeze.

The great work is not yet done.

I won't die yet.

Where did you go, Young Lady Lin?

Are you here to see me?

Young Master Lin and Young Lady Rong are worried about you.

I was just walking around.

Let's go back.

Okay.

(Yuchi Manor) The Pure Sword Sect has arrived.

The Tang Clan has arrived.

The Spirit Fox Sect has arrived.

Madam Xing, this way, please.

The Junshan Sect has arrived.

Madam Xing.

(Madam Xing,)

(Head of Pure Sword Sect) It's been a long time.

You're still so strong and healthy.

You haven't been out for years,

and now you're in Yuchi Manor in person.

Master Lin has so much respect.

Head Tang.

(Tang Chanyi, Head of Tang Clan)

(A Disciple of Junshan Sect) Is Head Tang thinking of

forming a marriage bond with Yuchi Manor?

What?

Your sect is afraid of Ghost Valley Sect

and even your head doesn't dare to come?

The Seven-Star Hall has arrived.

Chanyi, don't be mad at him.

(Jiang Ruhai, Seven-Star Hall)

Chief Jiang.

(Jiang Cheng, Chief of Seven-Star Hall) Head Tang,

how have you been?

I have been good.

That's good to hear.

(Boardroom)

You all have traveled across the seas or mountains

to join us here at Yuchi Manor.

I'm deeply grateful.

I apologize for the poor hospitality.

Please forgive that.

Master Lin,

spare the formalities.

We came to Yuchi Manor

for the sake of Six Great Sects to be together

and to support each other.

Wait.

If it's a war with Ghost Valley Sect,

the Pure Sword Sect doesn't intend to be part of it.

That's what

we're here to discuss.

Master Lin,

Ghost Valley Sect arrested someone

for the key and map to the Fuxian treasure.

Who here

isn't after the treasure?

Today, I'd like to ask Master Lin for an explanation.

Is the key to the treasure in Yuchi Manor or not?

I've invited you here,

firstly for Zhonghe Festival,

and secondly,

to discuss this matter.

You've come a long way,

so why don't you take a rest first?

As for this matter, it's not urgent.

We can discuss it in the long run.

Master, the guest rooms are ready.

Please have a good rest.

Please come with me.

Please.

Please.

You've disgraced

the Tang family.

Chanyi, what's wrong?

You've been following Lin Shaoci all day.

It's been so many years

and he hasn't married you yet.

If you go on like this,

you'll become the laughing stock sooner or later,

just like Rong Shukuang and Yu Linglong.

Brother Shaoci has his own plans.

Snake, be good.

Use this

and he will definitely fall for you.

Chanyi, I can't do this to someone I like.

Distribute the people in the inner city

to coordinate with each other

to protect the city.

So

the city will be well protected

and there'll be no mistakes.

Father,

the sects are gathering today.

The heads and chiefs have their own plans, right?

Whether it's a friend or foe,

we can't give Ghost Valley Sect

a chance to take advantage of us.

I understood.

Besides,

there's one more thing you should plan as soon as possible.

For Yu Linglong and Tang Yingluo...

Which one...

do you want to marry?

Father,

Yu and Yingluo,

to me,

are sisters like Wanci.

Sisters?

They are not your blood relatives.

How can they be the same?

What about Shukuang?

You said

you just thought of Shukuang as a sister.

- To her, you... - Father.

Once upon a time, I even thought

that Shukuang was a man

I could trust and rely on.

But

since she got hurt,

I feel like she's changed.

I suddenly...

Suddenly, I feel like I want to protect her.

Father,

I still need

to think about this.

Two days later is Zhonghe Festival.

It is not to be taken lightly.

You may leave now.

Yes.

Watch out, Young Lady Rong.

Let's go.

You finally showed up.

I haven't seen you all day.

Where have you been?

Drinking.

Drinking on such an important day?

Fine.

As long as you're back.

Look at me.

What do you think?

You deserve the title of Top Swordsman of Yuchi Manor.

Go.

Greetings, Master Lin.

Head Yu,

Madam Xing.

Today's flower fair is very lively.

Yes.

Today is Zhonghe Festival.

We are honored to have

all the heroes here.

Whoever wins the contest

against all the other heroes

will be rewarded with a big gift from Yuchi Manor.

Young Lady Rong, I'm here.

She...

Let's go.

After two hours,

the Red Banner Flower Fair

will officially begin.

Please have a seat.

Please.

I thought I won every year.

What about my prize money?

The prize money is for this year, not for previous years.

- That's too unfair. - Mister and Miss,

please come in.

I'll bring you a bottle of good wine.

Okay.

Have a seat.

Young Lady Rong,

it's been a long time.

I'm glad

to see you're safe and sound.

Young Master Ruhai,

Young Lady Rong has been missing you.

Yes.

She broke your leg

at the flower fair last year.

She's still upset about that.

How's your leg?

Thank you.

It's healed.

Well, was I ever this mean?

Is your leg okay for this year's contest?

This one.

Okay.

If my guard wins the prize money this year,

I'll give you all of it

as medical expenses.

Okay?

I don't care about money.

If you really want to apologize,

come on,

drink up this bowl of wine

as an apology.

I'll finish it.

Young Lady Rong,

you're the best of men, and the greatest of women.

Here's to you.

- You flatter me. - Yan Shao.

- Let's drink. - Bottoms up.

Young Lady Lin told you to prepare for the contest.

Okay.

- Young Lady Rong. - Young Lady Rong.

- Here's to you. - Let's go.

That's too kind of you.

Remember to enjoy yourselves here.

- Sure. - Thanks, Young Lady Rong.

Young Lady Rong.

I'll be going.

I'm leaving.

Young Lady Rong.

(Tavern)

Split up for patrols. Nothing is allowed to happen.

Young Master Lin!

Young Master Lin!

Something's happened to the winery on the west side of the city.

Young Master Lin!

What's wrong with you?

Sorry.

I'm in a hurry to see my young master.

Wait.

What's going on at the winery?

I went to make a delivery

and found out something was wrong.

The carriage wasn't carrying wine.

But...

But...

Forget it. I'm not talking to you.

I told you not to run so fast.

Look at you.

Don't throw up.

I'll take you to a physician.

(Blossom's Smile)

Lucky sachets!

Fragrant and beautiful lucky sachets!

This is good wine.

Thanks for selling it to me.

Lucky sachets!

Fragrant and beautiful lucky sachets!

Lucky sachets!

The Red Banner Flower Fair at Yuchi Manor is about to begin.

Those drinking sessions before the contest

are the same as in previous years.

It's not interesting.

You're tired of serving the guests.

Just go back and rest.

It's a mess out there tonight.

Don't go out.

I have to go to the bank.

(Blossom's Smile)

Goodbye, Young Lady Rong.

Mr. Jiang,

the fun's about to begin.

Where are you going?

Young Lady Rong,

you want to go to the toilet with me?

It's just a little bit of an exciting moment.

How can you leave now?

Come on, Mr. Jiang.

I wish you good luck in the contest.

I'll drink it when I get back.

Mr. Jiang.

Mr. Jiang.

Let's go.

What's the point of chasing me?

You were with Yan Shao last time.

I'm Feng Ming.

When Yan Shao is away,

I'll protect you.

Ignition stick?

Something is not right.

There's something wrong with Red Banner Flower Fair today.

Young Lady Rong,

you're probably drunk.

You have to attend the Red Banner Flower Fair.

Both of them smell the same.

What smell is that?

What do they have to do with each other?

Who do you mean?

The kid who dropped this ignition stick

and Jiang Ruhai who kept getting me drunk.

Both of them smell the same.

It's unusual.

No way.

I want to see what they're up to.

Why are we meeting so suddenly?

Is there a change of plans?

Yes.

Leader Shen needs to notify you of other arrangements.

Where are your ignition sticks?

I was in a hurry.

I might have dropped it outside.

If you mess up today,

can you still keep your life?

When the flower ball drops,

that's the signal.

At the same time, ignite the kerosene everywhere.

When the fire is lit,

all of us will meet up at Blossom's Smile.

After that,

we'll leave the city together.

I'll take the shortcut.

Watch out!

This...

This is

blood.

Young Lady Rong.

Young Lady Rong.

Madam Li.

Let's take him to my shop

and get a physician.

Don't worry, Young Lady Rong.

Blossom's Smile has been open for 20 years.

Madam Li can be trusted.

(Blossom's Smile)

Wait.

Okay, you may go now.

Inspection.

Look over there.

It's so beautiful.

It's so crowded.

It's so lively today.

Slow down.

Come on. Come here.

Be careful.

With Young Master Lin guarding the checkpoint,

no one can get through, right?

In the past years,

it's Young Lady Rong who's the most outstanding.

This year, she was injured by Ghost Valley Sect

and she can't join the contest.

This flower fair

isn't as exciting as previous years.

There are many heroes in the world today.

We don't know if there will be an unexpected winner this year.

Tonight, all the heroes are gathered.

I hope you all

have a good time.

Come on, let's drink.

Sorry.

Excuse me.

Excuse me.

Excuse me.

Sister Rong.

Where's Yan Shao? I need to see him.

He's ready for the contest.

Let's leave him for now.

Wanci is not feeling well,

so she asked you to guard the checkpoint.

I can't. I've been bad at Chinese since I was a kid.

We've got you covered.

Look. The first checkpoint is Speaking the Name of the Wine.

The second checkpoint is this Flying Flower Order.

The third is Climbing Up to the Attic.

Shaoci is the keeper of the third checkpoint.

You're the one of the second checkpoint.

In my opinion, these swordsmen

won't even make it to the third checkpoint with their poetry.

Just go ahead and take it easy.

If you can't, we'll take care of it.

Go.

Okay.

The Red Banner Flower Fair officially begins now.

Please welcome Yan Shao of Yuchi Manor

and Jiang Ruhai of the Seven-Star Hall

to enter the venue.

There's only one bowl of wine on the table.

The two of you can't move your feet.

You should grab the bowl and drink,

and the one who announces the name of the wine correctly

passes it.

Let's go.

It starts now.

Nice.

Penglai Spring Wine.

Nice.

The winner is Yan Shao of Yuchi Manor.

Thanks for letting me win.

Please proceed to the next checkpoint.

Well done.

The young man in red doesn't look familiar.

He defeated Young Master Ruhai in just a few moves.

Who is he?

I've never seen him before.

I heard he's Young Lady Rong's guard.

Interesting.

(Blossom's Smile)

Wine...

Wine? What wine are you talking about?

Where do you mean the wine?

There's wine all over the city now.

I ran into your friend, Feng Ming.

Someone was assassinated in a back alley.

This flower fair is not going to be a peaceful one tonight.

And Jiang Ruhai, something's wrong with him too.

I got it.

How come you don't seem nervous at all?

Are you sober?

I've never been drunk.

(Cunning fox.)

(Do you have something going on behind your back?)

(I will eventually strip away your disguise.)

(Little liar,)

(you better behave yourself.)

(Don't get into any more trouble.)

(I'm afraid)

(I can't protect you tonight.)

Second checkpoint,

answering phrases of poetry.

(Flying Flower Order )

The Flying Flower Order starts now.

Nice.

Nice.

The Flying...

The Flying Flower Order?

What?

Have you forgotten how to play Flying Flower Order?

How dare you look down on me?

Come on.

Pick the flowers when they are in bloom...

Butterflies are seen fluttering around in the flowers.

With gorgeous make-up and gold hairpins...

It's the time of year when the plum blossoms fall and fade.

Gorgeous dress is like a floating cloud, pretty face is like a blooming flower.

Wanci, aren't you feeling unwell?

Why are you here?

Shukuang was injured, lost her memory

and got drunk.

She can't play Flying Flower Order with you.

Let me be the keeper of this checkpoint.

That's fine.

East wind weakens, and all flowers wither.

Flowers fly everywhere in the city of spring.

I'm afraid the wind

won't blow down the flowers in the city tonight.

Noble Consort's head ornaments are left on the ground.

Congratulations, Yao Shao.

You've passed the second checkpoint.

Congratulations. Please proceed to the third checkpoint.

Well done.

What's so great about being able to recite poems?

Wanci.

Your health is important.

I'll take you back first.

Don't bother.

You guys stay here and guard the checkpoint.

You can't move.

My carriage is nearby.

I'll just take a break.

(It's that smell again.)

Congratulations, Miss Yu. Please proceed to the third checkpoint.

Yu, sorry to offend you.

I'll go to the Spirit Fox Sect

to apologize to you in the future.

Who wants you to apologize?

Young Master Lin,

it is hard to repay a debt of love.

You should be more compassionate.

Shut up.

If I can't get up there,

you can't get up there either.

Yu,

that's not fair.

None of your business!

Young Lady Lin has disappeared.

The carriage is still there.

Why is the Yellow-Robed here?

Yan Shao, please ascend the building.

Thank you.

Kerosene is flammable.

The ignition stick is used to light the fire.

Barrels of wine are piled up.

The appearance of the Yellow-Robed here

means that Ghost Valley Sect's men

have already infiltrated the city.

If they want to light the fires at the same time,

they'll need a signal

they can see together.

Signal...

The falling of the flower ball is the signal.

He's got problems.

Catch him.

Look, this...

Something is wrong with Young Master Ruhai.

Something's going to happen here tonight.

Someone's going to be lighting fires all over the place tonight.

I've already smelled kerosene

on at least two people at the scene.

When will it happen?

If I'm not mistaken, the falling of the flower ball

is the signal.

That's bad.

Yan Shao, no.

So it's you.

What are they doing?

When has Yuchi Manor ever treated you badly?

No.

What will happen when the flower ball drops?

I can't tell you.

Put the flower ball down first.

Yan Shao.

Shukuang.

Get out of here.

You don't even care about Shukuang's life?

Do you think

I should care?

The lives of the people in the city

are at your mercy.

I don't care if they live or die.

You...

I trust you.

Yan Shao,

I trust you.

You care about everyone.

You'd never do anything

to hurt the innocent.

I don't doubt you.

I never have.

Thank you, Young Lady Rong.

Give me the flower ball,

okay?
