=Episode 12=

Xiaotang.

Hello, Anna.

I got your gift.

I like it very much.

By the way,

I don't even know if Zhen has caught

that creep who's been following me yet.

Do you know who is the one following you?

Every time he appears in security footage,

he's wearing a hat.

We can't see his face at all.

Anna, say something.

What's wrong, Anna?

Nothing.

I was thinking that Gu was a police officer.

He got someone to protect you.

You'll be fine.

Something came up.

So I'm hanging up now.

Okay.

You, go ahead.

Bye.

Mr. Wang,

you're back.

Why did you touch my things?

Why did you touch my things?

I'm sorry.

You saw everything,

didn't you?

I...

I was looking through some references and saw it by accident.

Let me tell you a story.

There was this pitiful man.

To others,

he appeared glamorous

and a promising artist.

But in reality, he had nothing.

Maybe he was a little rich.

But he was nothing more than a lonely stray dog.

Until one day,

he met a kind woman.

And suddenly, his life

and his world

became bright.

Then

they had a daughter.

A beautiful little girl.

Every day, he watched his wife

and daughter,

feeling like

this was the life

and the world

he was meant to have.

But one day,

he watched helplessly

as his daughter died right in front of him.

He couldn't do anything.

His wife

broke down little by little.

He was powerless.

He could never forget

that moment his daughter died in front of him.

Flames were everywhere.

Everywhere.

He could hear his daughter crying out,

"Daddy, it hurts.

It hurts so much.

Please help me.

- It hurts..." - Daddy. Daddy.

So

it was all his fault.

It was all his fault!

He should have died!

It's his fault!

He should've died!

No, that's not true.

You have to live for your daughter.

It's okay now.

It's okay.

Everything is okay now.

Anna,

tell me something.

Will you always believe me?

I will.

I believe you.

I will.

What if one day

I lose my mind?

Will you still believe me?

Yes.

I will.

I will believe you.

It's okay now.

(Wuhou Town)

Officers,

Wu Shenglin is up ahead.

In our village, only these two brothers surnamed Wu,

Wu Shenglin

and Wu Shengshan.

Is there anyone else in their family?

Wu Shengshan has a wife.

But they had a fight

a few days ago.

She went to her parents' house.

I gave him a scolding for it.

He went to pick her up today.

Probably not home.

As for Wu Shenglin, he's single.

He's the younger one.

He should be home.

What kind of person is Wu Shenglin?

He likes to take small advantages

but nothing serious.

Did he commit any crime?

No.

We just need to ask him a few questions.

Lin!

Come here.

Yes, Mr. Wang.

These two officers want to talk to you.

Stop!

Why are you running?

Next time,

don't run from police

if you didn't commit any crime.

Is this your ID?

Is this mine?

It doesn't look like it.

Then where's your ID?

I don't have it.

Have you been to Huaizhou recently?

Huaizhou?

No.

Never been there.

I swear!

I haven't left the village

in over half a month.

Think again.

If you don't believe me, ask Mr. Wang.

Mr. Wang, you know

I've never been there.

The kid's telling the truth.

He's been hanging around the village

drinking and playing cards.

I see him every day.

Are you sure you're not mistaken?

Your ID is missing,

and you can't explain why.

So many people died

in the Huaizhou explosion case.

I'm sure you know since it's all over the news.

Do you really think you can just cover this up?

I don't know anything!

Wait... I remember now.

I lost my ID.

Jiang Peng lost it!

Sit down.

Mr. Wang, do you still remember

Jiang Peng?

Yes, I do.

I remember he looked quite a bit

like you two brothers.

But how did your ID end up with him?

He got it from me.

This is a serious situation.

Just tell the truth.

Do you really think you can fool the police?

You haven't even had a wife yet.

All right. All right!

About two months ago,

Jiang Peng came to me.

He asked to borrow my ID for a bit.

Lin, one more drink.

Lin, I came to have a drink with you

because I need a favor.

Can I borrow your ID for a while?

I want to go to the internet café to play games.

You finally feel like playing?

That's the spirit!

(Name: Wu Shenglin) Go and have fun.

Where's your ID?

Why do you need mine?

They kept mine as collateral.

They haven't given it back.

Those scums.

Tomorrow, I'll go

and curse them out for you.

Take it.

Thanks, Lin.

About that thing...

Just let it go.

If you can let it go,

all will be good.

Two days later, he told me

his bag had been stolen when he was at the internet café.

My ID was in it.

I figured

he didn't do it on purpose.

Besides,

getting a new ID isn't that troublesome.

So I didn't say anything.

You just casually lent out

something as important as your ID?

Jiang Peng was a good guy.

He often buys me drinks.

When my family was struggling,

he always helped out.

Besides,

we work together.

Mr. Wang, isn't that right?

Right?

What's right about that?

Do you want to spend a few days behind bars?

I've watched you grow up.

I know exactly what kind of person you are.

You must've gotten something in return.

Otherwise, why would you lend him your ID?

Stop hitting!

Please

stop!

I'll say it. I asked him for 500 yuan.

First, he gave me 200 yuan as collateral.

Then he paid me another 300 yuan.

That's not illegal, is it?

All this trouble

for 500 yuan?

Enough!

I want both of you

to take turns

to see which one is Jiang Peng.

You, come over here.

You, face the other way.

This one.

Are you sure?

Yes, I'm sure.

Okay.

You, come here.

This is Jiang Peng.

But 01 looks familiar.

Mr. Wang,

take a look.

I think so.

This is Jiang Peng.

Okay, you can sit down.

Is Jiang Peng from here?

No.

He came to our village over a year ago.

He's from Xinquan.

He had no family and wanted to make a living.

So he worked at the quarry.

He was honest and hardworking.

Someone in the village even took a liking to him

and was making him

a live-in son-in-law.

But then the quarry collapsed,

and he got caught in it.

He may have survived.

But...

He wasn't a whole man anymore.

Then he tried

to get compensation from the quarry,

asking for 500,000 yuan,

but they were only willing to pay him 50,000 yuan

He kept pushing for compensation.

But instead of paying him,

they beat him up.

After that, he just left.

Where did he go?

He never told me.

Mr. Wang,

that Victim 01,

I remember he was close to Jiang Peng.

Do you remember

he used to come and see him?

Ah, yes.

It was that 01.

They even went to the quarry together to demand compensation.

But they never came back after that.

What was Jiang Peng's

friend's name?

I don't know.

I just remember

Jiang Peng calling him "Yong."

(People's Public Security)

(Wu Shenglin ID)

Jiang Peng is Victim 02.

He borrowed Wu Shenglin's ID.

This is Wu Shenglin's full ID information.

Why would Jiang Peng

need to use Wu Shenglin's ID?

If he lost his ID,

he could've applied for a new one.

From what we understand so far,

the quarry confiscated his ID.

But we can't rule out

the possibility that Jiang Peng tricked Wu Shenglin's ID

to hide his real identity.

So

our focus now

is to track all records tied to Jiang Peng

while he was using Wu Shenglin's identity,

Hotel bookings, tickets,

and anything related.

Yu,

it's your job.

Yes, sir.

I'll start now.

As of now,

both victims are prime suspects.

So

our priority is figuring out

their motive.

Qin,

go and request approval from the chief

for a reward announcement.

Get their photos out to the media

and ask the public

for any sightings

of them

in the past ten days.

I'll go right away.

Okay.

Song, you're here.

Got some free time today?

This month's rent...

You bad boy,

I'll wait for you tonight.

Just come over.

Mr. Song.

Mr. Song?

How did they find your place

and rent this room?

Online.

That short guy booked my place

on a rental platform two months ago.

What was his name again...

Mister?

I'm Fu Qiyong.

You're showing me the house today, remember?

Oh, come in.

Take a look.

Is this your friend?

Yes, he's my friend.

We'll share the room.

You said it was just for you.

Why you two now?

Mister,

it's not easy making money nowadays.

Sharing the rent helps save costs.

Fine.

Another 100 yuan for management.

Give me your IDs for registration.

I forgot mine.

No ID?

If you have no ID,

I can't rent this place to you.

I need proper documentation.

I'll bring it these days.

Then we'll sign the contract until then.

Don't take too long.

My place is reasonably priced,

well-located,

and in high demand.

Okay, mister.

But

can you drop the extra 100 yuan?

Now, it's 200 yuan.

That's unfair!

Okay, 200 yuan it is.

But don't enter our room after that.

Don't worry.

I don't care what you do inside

so long you pay your rent.

Why did you agree to that?

In less than two days,

they came with the IDs.

I took photos of them.

(Name: Fu Qiyong)

(Name: Wu Shenglin)

Did they really sleep here

in the same bed?

Yeah.

They weren't around during the day

and only came back at night.

It's understandable.

Laborers.

After that bus explosion a few days ago,

they never returned.

Thinking about it, something was definitely off.

We will now conduct a legal search of this property.

Here's the warrant.

Please witness the process.

Thank you.

(Huaizhou People's Hospital)

(Revenge. Revenge)

The motive?

We found it.

Mr. Song,

whose luggage is this?

Theirs.

They brought two identical suitcases

and two identical travel bags

when they moved in.

One of the travel bags is missing.

Wait...

I didn't take

any of their belongings.

I was wondering

why they left without taking their stuff.

At first, I thought

they ran off to avoid paying the rent.

I never expected them to be dead.

Good thing I collected the rent in advance.

Or I'd have suffered a big loss.

Officer,

about the reward for providing information...

We'll notify you about the paperwork later.

(Public Security Bureau)

We can now confirm that Fu Qiyong

and Jiang Peng jointly

carried out the explosion case.

Yu,

any leads on their financial transactions?

I found out that Fu Qiyong was addicted to gambling.

A few months ago, he took out

several online loans using his ID.

The interest rates were very high,

and with the rolling interest,

his debt has reached hundreds of thousands of yuan.

He had no way to pay it back.

Based on the medical records we found

in Jiang Peng's rented room,

combined with Wu Shenglin's statement

that Jiang Peng was injured

while working at the quarry.

Considering both factors,

the injury left

Jiang Peng permanently infertile.

After failing to get compensation,

he decided to take revenge on the quarry owner,

Mr. Bai.

That's right.

The owner of the quarry

where Jiang Peng worked

is Bai Zhigang.

(Searching...)

Found him.

Bai Zhigang is a family member

of the victims in this case.

His parents were on that bus.

The bus's surveillance footage has been restored.

It's being sent to me now.

I'll download it now.

Okay.

(On the Day of the Explosion)

Let me help you with your bags.

This bus is less crowded.

Mr. Bai arranged for you

to take this one.

Okay.

Come, watch your steps.

Okay.

(Zhigang Chemical)

Come, madam.

Those at the back, please keep up.

Okay, find a seat and settle in.

Liao,

the bus before us has departed.

We should hurry.

Okay.

Behave well during the outing, okay?

Wait!

Wait for me!

Are you a family member of the employee?

Yes.

We're getting married soon.

Okay, have a seat.

Peng.

Peng,

luckily I made it.

I made you lunch.

Keep quiet.

Miss,

are you the chemical plant's employee too?

Chemical plant?

Peng,

I thought you worked at the quarry.

This bus is for the chemical plant's team-building event.

Don't get on the wrong bus.

You're from the quarry.

Why are you joining our event?

Did you board the wrong bus?

Stay seated.

Don't move.

Uncle, what's that smell?

It smells like gasoline.

Don't move!

Peng,

what are you doing?

Anyone who moves,

we will all die together!

If I see anyone making a phone call,

I'll kill you.

If you try anything, I'll kill you.

Lock the door

and keep driving.

Buddy,

let's talk this out.

Just drive!

Young man,

let's talk this through.

Everyone on this bus works for my son.

Did anyone wrong you?

You two old fools raised

a scumbag of a son.

Now, the whole bus will pay for it.

If this is about my son,

take it out on us.

Just let the rest go.

I apologize on my son's behalf.

Please don't do anything foolish.

You're going too far!

Trying to be a hero?

A tough guy, huh?

Fine!

Let's die together!

Come on!

I've been bullied my whole life.

Let's see who can push me around today!

Peng.

Peng.

Have you lost your mind?

I'm your girlfriend.

Are you dragging me along too?

You don't understand.

You kept asking

why I hadn't touched you in six months.

Bai Zhigang beat me up.

I'm not a whole man anymore.

If you knew,

you would've dumped me, right?

Peng,

what do you take me for?

Even if you told me,

I wouldn't have left you.

I already knew

what you do for a living!

Whatever.

Yingzi.

I won't

let you keep cheating on me.

If you want revenge, go after Mr. Bai himself.

We're just workers.

We didn't do anything to you.

Just let us go!

I've never even had a boyfriend!

I don't wanna die!

Shut up!

Mister, this isn't right.

Just keep your mouth shut!

Jiang Peng, you coward.

If you back out now,

you'll just spend the rest of your life in prison!

I won't let you do this!

Honey!

Step on the gas!

Honey!

Honey!

Everyone, get him!

Hold him off!

Hurry!

How dare you!

Get off me!

Let me go!

Die!

Put the gasoline barrel away!

I'll stab anyone who moves!

The door is open. Run!

Let go!

Do it!

Yingzi, let's meet in the next life.

I want to see my parents.

All the injured are out of critical condition.

But they have severe burns.

No visitors are allowed yet.

That's fine.

Make sure my parents

get these supplements.

Listen here.

My parents need

the best of everything.

Got it?

They can't eat this yet.

Hello?

Did you tell Xue Cheng what I said?

Listen here.

I need to use money urgently.

So I don't care what you do,

I want you to return

the money I invested right this instant!

Stop feigning ignorance.

I'm warning you...

Hello?

Hey!

How dare he hang up on me?

Darn it.

I'll kill you!

Let's go.

Bai Zhigang, right?

Yeah.

What?

We're the police.

We need to ask you a few questions.
